Subie Scoop - July 27

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend, and for those of you that went to SubieFest California, I'm sure you all had an amazing time. I saw some of the posts and stories that people have been putting up over the weekend, so it looks like it definitely was a good time. It's always nice to see people again that you haven't seen in a while, and it's also nice to meet new people because that's a great opportunity to meet new

[00:00:36] people in the Subaru community. Also check out some of the athletes that show up at the event, like Bucky Lassick and Rian and Jill Cimino and whoever else may make it. Those are the two people that I saw in some of the posts. I mean, Bucky's always there, Rian and is almost always there now, so it looked like, again, it looks like it was a good time. So yeah, it was a great event, and we've got more to come this year, more SubieFest events, more Subie events, I guess is what I should say.

[00:01:05] I had a good weekend. I spent half of it at home and then half of it at Kelly's house because I was there for a week and a half, which was really nice. I was taking advantage of still having some time off before I go to work on Monday, August 3rd, which I'm looking forward to because it's going to be something that I enjoy doing and that I wanted to get back to doing because it's going to be primarily doing drafting all day long and it's fully remote, which is like the perfect scenario

[00:01:34] for me. I'm also still doing my UGC jobs as well, so that's been going really, really well. And I look forward to where that will progress to because I've worked on quite a few projects and I have five different projects that I'm working on right now, so that is definitely exciting. And something else that is exciting is for all of my Midwest friends and beyond, it doesn't just

[00:02:01] have to be the Midwest, but Subaru Flatfest is coming around again this year. It's coming up August 8th in Madison, Wisconsin. There will be a Subaru show, an off-road playground, which is always fun, an autocross, and this event is all for charity. So that of course is always a really, really nice thing and a really great thing to participate in when it's for charity. So you can

[00:02:26] register at the event or you can register for the event online at SubaruFlatfest.com and flat is FL4T, so Subaru Flatfest with a 4 in there instead of the A.com. I attended Subaru Flatfest back in 2022 by driving all the way up to Madison, Wisconsin from Houston by myself. And that was a really long

[00:02:51] drive because I did it over a two-day period. I started off on, I think I started off on Saturday, or no, I started off on Thursday and then I continued on Friday, got there Friday night for the camping at the event. Saturday was the event and then I started heading back on Sunday and then stopped and then continued on Monday because I drove on the way up there. I drove like nine-ish hours

[00:03:20] both ways, both days, and then the first day back on Sunday was about nine hours and then on Monday, 16 hours because my roof rack was leaking because I didn't put in enough silicone. So that was, if you've heard that story, you know it, it's funny and kind of crazy. But anyway, yeah, so Subaru Flatfest is going to be again, it's going to be August 8th in Madison, Wisconsin.

[00:03:46] So it's also a great opportunity like SubiFest to meet people that you haven't seen or see people that you may not have seen in a while, and also a great opportunity to meet new people. And from what I've seen in the past, they've had Subaru Motorsports USA there. So I'm not sure what the presence is going to be this year from Subaru Motorsports USA, but probably can look forward to seeing that. Also, there's plenty to do for all of the attendees. Again, there's going to be a Subaru show,

[00:04:15] off-road playground, autocross, and other events. There's also going to be vendors there as well. So you'll see like little pop-up tents and I believe there will be some food also. You could be crazy like me and drive 18 hours to get there over a couple of days,

[00:05:04] but I think it was worth it. I still would like to make it up there again at some point. It's just, I don't want to fly. I want to drive again, but you know, I don't know. It's going to some of these events for me can be really, really far, but I would definitely like to make it up there again at some point. And I hope that I can. So yeah, go check it out. [00:05:28] of course, the next Subi event is going to be Boxer Fest, which is Sunday, September 27th from 9am to 5pm. It's going to be at the York Fairgrounds in York, Pennsylvania. I've been to Boxer Fest also. I went there in 2021. Thanks to Subaru for flying me out there and being able to check out that event. That was where I first met Bucky. I met several people from SOA. I met some other people that I

[00:05:53] had been following online and I was still so new into the podcast. I just kind of walked around aimlessly and didn't really talk to a whole lot of people because I was very, very shy. And, you know, a lot of people still didn't know about the podcast. So I wasn't really sure how to go about, you know, approaching people, but I did end up talking to quite a few people and I have since had some people that I met there on the podcast. So that was really, really cool.

[00:06:19] But yeah, Boxer Fest. And then after that is going to be Subi Fest Midwest, which is going to be Saturday, October 10th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, Illinois. And then Subi Fest, Florida, Saturday, October 24th from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Freedom Factory in Bradenton, Florida. And then, of course, Subi Fest, Texas, Saturday, December 12th from 11 a.m.

[00:08:05] I don't really have much else to report on other than Pearl is getting closer and closer to 150,000 miles. I rolled over 148,000 miles this past Saturday or maybe it was even before that. So I'm getting closer and it's getting exciting, but again, still kind of scary because I still have the OEM clutch in my car and I'll have to get that replaced at some point, I'm sure.
