In this edition of the Subie Scoop I wish all those well who attended Subaru FL4TFEST, a catch up on my full time job, and an upcoming event announcement.
[00:00:06] Hello and welcome to another edition of the Subie & YOU!. I know this past weekend was a good and fun weekend for people up in Madison, Wisconsin who attended Subaru Flat Fest. It was four years ago that I drove up there all the way from Houston by myself and attended Subaru Flat Fest. And that was a really, really great event. It was really cool to meet so many people that I had only been talking to for a while.
[00:00:36] Especially Jen who was my very first guest on the podcast. It was really cool to meet her. And then of course Jonathan who's one of the ones that helps coordinate so much of the stuff. He goes by Star Count Nation and of course I was able to meet Jay and Chris. Jay goes by Audiophile. He and Chris run Subies of the Corn.
[00:00:57] So while I haven't been back in four years and I've only been up there once, I am thankful for the opportunity that I had to drive up there and attend the event. Because it was a lot of fun. And I do want to go back at some point and I actually want to drive again. So hopefully at some point I can make that happen. It's just, it's such a long drive.
[00:01:20] And I always wanted to take my kids with me, but there was always conflicts with marching band with them and just some other stuff. So that was one of the main reasons we all didn't go was just because there was always some sort of a conflict. But I would like to make it up there again. So if you're listening to this and you went to Subaru Flat Fest, I hope you had an amazing time.
[00:01:42] So the other thing that I wanted to talk about is previously I mentioned that I started a new full time job and I completed my first week last week. And it was, it was really great. I went into the office on Monday, August 3rd and went to new or I went to new hire orientation with 11 other people because they do it all together for new hires.
[00:02:05] And there were people from various departments. So we did all that at once. And then after lunch, I met with my manager and we sat and talked about stuff for a while. And then I came home. And then on Thursday of last week, the site planner team had their quarterly meeting. So they have to go into the office every quarter for this meeting.
[00:02:28] And it just so happened to take place the week that I started, which was actually really good because then I was already able to meet everybody. Because if they had had the meeting like the previous week or a couple of weeks prior, then I wouldn't have been able to meet all these people that I'm going to be working with in person. But now I was able to meet everybody in person and kind of start getting to know people. And it was really nice. So that was definitely a great day.
[00:02:57] And it's, you know, it's a full time job again, which I was trying to not have to go back to a full time job. But I have bills to pay. My unemployment also ran out. They said I had no more benefits. So I've got to be able to take care of myself and other people financially. However, being that I'm working a full time job again, it is something that I enjoy doing. It's drafting.
[00:03:24] And I was shadowing a couple of people this past week and seeing what they're doing and how they're doing it. And I was watching them and I'm like, I'm looking forward to getting to the point to where I can do that, too, because it looked like fun to me. Because drafting has always been fun to me. And if I'm going to be working a full time job, I'd like to be doing something that I consider fun. And I consider drafting fun. The other thing is, again, is it's fully remote, which is really, really nice.
[00:03:53] So I am very thankful for that opportunity. And I was looking specifically for a full time or a remote job and I found one. So very thankful for that. So this next these next few weeks, I'll be going through some more like courses and training and just learning what their process is on how they do everything. So I'm looking forward to that so that I can get to the point to where I can actually start laying outside plans as well.
[00:04:20] But so a little while ago, I mentioned an event. I mentioned Subaru Flatfest. There's another event coming up in September. So next month it's Boxer Fest. It's going to be Sunday, September 27th from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the York Fairgrounds in York, Pennsylvania. So if you're able to make it out there, go check it out. It's a great event.
[00:04:43] I have been to Boxer Fest. Also, I went to Boxer Fest in 2021 and that was when I first met Bucky. And I met some of the other people. I met some of the people from Subaru of America. And then I was also able to meet some people in the community. And that was a really great event. But if you go to that event or any of the events, be sure to wear sunscreen because I did not when I went to Boxer Fest and I got burned.
[00:05:11] Not real bad, but it was bad enough that I was, you know, I was like couldn't take a warm shower. I had to take a cool shower. And so, yeah, just be careful, be smart, keep hydrated and just have a good time overall, of course. Now, if you want to show up to Boxer Fest in style, you can go to SubaruGear.com. Browse for hats, browse for backpacks, browse for bags, browse for T-shirts.
[00:05:38] And they even have socks. But yeah, show up to Boxer Fest in style with some Subaru gear, with some gear that's going to represent your favorite car brand. And thank you for bringing this offer to the listeners. That's all I have for the Subie Scoop this week. I know it was kind of short, but I just wanted to, you know, again, say, I hope that everybody had a great time at Subaru Flat Fest, catch you up on what's going on with my full-time job, and then let you know about the other event that's coming up.
[00:06:36] And of course, to show up in style. Of course, we will see you next Monday on another regular guest episode. So be sure to tune in for that to find out who the guest is going to be. A little hint, it was somebody that I saw out at Overland Expo PNW. There was a lot of people there, so happy or lucky guessing. So yeah, we'll pull that one together this week and get it out next Monday for another guest episode.
[00:07:05] But hope you all have a wonderful week. Take care. Get out and drive your Subies. Hang out with your Subie friends. And just have a good time. Be safe. Much Subie love. Raph.
