In this edition of the Subie Scoop I talk about what's going on with Pearl and the clicking noise. I also talk about the part that I bought to solve the issue and some conversations I had with another Crosstrek owner who had the same issues.

[00:00:10] Hello everybody, welcome to another edition of the Subie Scoop. This week I was supposed to have a guest on but there were some scheduling conflicts so we will continue with the guest on the next Subie Scoop. But on this one I can talk a little bit more about what's been going on with Pearl, with the clicking noise and trying to figure that whole thing out.

[00:00:34] So finally got it figured out and got the part ordered and then talked to Paolo who goes by Rallytrek and he was having the same thing going on. So I kind of wish that I would have known to talk, well I mean I just didn't know what was going on. So I was doing what I can with the information that I had but I got it figured out and at least I really hope so but from all the other information that I've gotten so far it seems like this is it.

[00:01:02] So I was talking to Subaru Ambassador Robert about what was going on and he told me that from what it sounded like from the video that I sent him and just what he knew that it sounded like it was the viscous coupling. And so then I took it to a local garage of Subaru Techs. They listened to it, they drove it and they said the same thing that it's my center diff and that so the viscous coupling needs to be replaced.

[00:01:32] So it got delivered on Saturday so now I have it. That's what was in my stories if you happen to see it and I said that I finally got the part for my time machine just because of course I was being silly. So now I just need to schedule an appointment to go have it replaced and hopefully it won't be too much to get it done because I can't do it myself.

[00:01:54] I mean I probably could but I don't have all of the necessary resources and tools and everything to do it myself or even at somebody else's house. So it's easiest just to have somebody else do it. But anyway when I was talking to Paolo he said, oh did you blow up your center diff too? And I said, maybe? I don't know. So he sent me some pictures, told me what was going on with his and his was doing the exact same thing mine is.

[00:02:23] And his is a manual as well so it was good to get that information and to know what's going on. So he said that he blew his viscous coupling when he was doing a dirt and mud course at the, there was some Diode Dynamics open house that he went to. And he said that he was just going like flat out on this mud course and he said that's where he blew his up.

[00:02:50] So I know like with mine I've driven through the mud quite a few times and the last few times that I did it I was driving through the mud pretty hard and also turning pretty hard at the same time. So turning back and forth trying to do donuts through it just like really pushing hard through the mud. And I'm guessing that that's probably what happened.

[00:03:15] It just makes sense based on what he said, based on other information that I've gained and then just knowing what I was doing with my car. So at least now I know and again just need to schedule an appointment to get it replaced. But you know it's good to learn more about your car and figure out what's going on with it so that you can you know better get it fixed.

[00:03:39] And also you know when like I mentioned before if there are things that you can do yourself definitely try to do it yourself. Either consult with people, consult with YouTube. But even if you consult with YouTube and it looks like you see what they're doing and it looks like it's legit and everything and something that you can do. Always check with other people too just to say hey can you watch this video? This is what they're doing. Do you have experience with this?

[00:04:08] Do you know of anybody that has experience with this? And you know if it is again if it's something you can do yourself you can save yourself some money in labor. And also look for Subaru online parts retailers to buy genuine OEM parts from them because you can generally get them less than you would from your local dealership.

[00:04:31] Like my axles I got my axles when I bought them for probably close to half of what the dealership was going to charge me. So it's always good to look around and not just take what you find you know the first time looking around. So do your research and it'll definitely help you out. When I got the viscous coupling delivered it was delivered by UPS and it was delivered in a pretty big box but it's not a big part.

[00:05:01] And so I was a little confused because I but I picked it up and it's it's a really heavy part. So I mean you have to hold it with like two hands because it's not tiny but it's not gigantic but it's really heavy. And but yeah it was in a small box inside of big giant box so that was interesting but I'm glad to have it at least I have the part now I can go get it scheduled to have it replaced.

[00:05:28] But yeah so that's what's going on with Pearl and when I do get it replaced the test is going to be to see if it still makes the noise. Hopefully not just like I said based on everything that I've seen and talking to Paolo that was definitely very helpful to talk to him about it. So should be good to go soon. And that's you know having 125,000 miles almost 126 now I'm sure I'm really close.

[00:05:58] I feel very blessed that that's really the only major problem I've had with Pearl. And you know I don't drive my car off road like a lot of other people do. But you know when I took it through the mud I mean I sent it pretty hard and which is what caused this issue. So I'm just I feel very blessed because it still drives very smooth. It's still really quiet.

[00:06:27] I mean I love it. I mean I'm very very surprised way to go Subaru. And I'm very maybe not surprised but I'm impressed. Because I just from what I've heard from people is that Subarus can last for a really long time. And you know I think about how she would be doing if I had never taken her off road. If I had only driven her on road and just had it as like a daily driver.

[00:06:57] You know like I'm sure she would be in better shape in certain areas. But I was talking to my daughter about it and she said something like yeah people who don't drive their cars off road. And go have fun with them losers. So I thought that was pretty funny. But you know it's I mean I bought my car to take for the ability to go off road. I didn't know that I would be going off road in the manner that I have been.

[00:07:26] But you know getting connected with this community. Meeting other people. Getting some mods. Wheels and tires. Of course I don't have a lift but I also don't really need one where I'm at. But just everything that I've done with Pearl. I really like where she's at. And I don't really need anything else right now. And I'm really happy. I like the way she looks. But yeah I've used her. And it's been a lot of fun.

[00:07:52] And again just thankful and very impressed with how well she's still driving. Before I close this out I have an event announcement. This is another event in Texas. On Saturday May 10th North Park Subaru in San Antonio is having a community event. They're calling a Speedway Saturday. There will be prizes and fun things for all. I also put a link to their Facebook event page in the episode show notes. So be sure to visit the link for more information.

[00:08:21] And one last thing before I close this out. Be sure to go check out SubaruGear.com. And check out all of the items that they have to offer. That are Subaru branded. Subaru Motorsports USA branded. And of course all of the various collections that they have. So they have a lot of great products there. And there's also new items. So if you see next to it it says new. That means it's a new item. If you see something that says sale. I'm not 100% sure. But I believe that if it says sale.

[00:08:50] That means that it is going to be discontinued. So however many items they have left. That's going to be it. So if you see something you really like. And it says sale. Go ahead and get it. Be sure to fill up your cart. And use the code SUBINU25 at checkout. To get 20% off your purchase. And if the total amount is over $50. After the 20% discount. You will automatically get free shipping. Which is a really really great deal.

[00:09:19] So go check it out. SubaruGear.com. And thank you so much Subaru Gear. For sponsoring the podcast. And bringing this great offer to the listeners. Hope you all have a great week. And we'll see you next Monday. On another episode. Episode 202. I will talk to you later. Much SUBINU love. Raph.
