In this edition of the Subie Scoop I share upcoming event info, talk about Luke's Outback repairs to be done, and share a bit about my new job.

[00:00:06] Hello, hello, hello and welcome to another edition of the Subie & YOU!. Also, happy Labor Day for those of you that possibly don't have to work today, like me. So I'm glad that I have today off and it's nice to just take a break and have a three-day weekend. So I hope you were able to enjoy it, maybe spend it with some friends and family, eat some great food, and just enjoy not having to work, if that was the case.

[00:00:35] Speaking of work, my new job is actually going really well and I'm settling in. Still getting used to having to get up and work every day again because I was kind of quote-unquote off for nine and a half months. So it has been a little bit of an adjustment, but it's okay. My hours are 8 to 4.30, they're remote, so it's not too bad because when I get off at 4.30 I still have quite a bit of day left over.

[00:01:05] And I'm doing something I enjoy and I'm learning more and more and I'm getting more and more comfortable and confident with what I'm doing. So then that just makes the days go by quicker and just makes it more enjoyable for me. But yeah, it's going really well and I'm still getting steady UGC projects. Not as many as I would like, but they're coming in and that's good. So that's another nice little side hustle going on.

[00:01:33] So now that we are officially in September, September means Boxer Fest. Boxer Fest is coming up Sunday, September 27th. It's going to be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at York Fairgrounds in York, Pennsylvania. So if you haven't done so already, go ahead and get your tickets so that you don't have to wait in line at the event. You can just have your tickets, walk in and, you know, get in. Of course, there's going to be a line when you get there waiting to get in when they open the gates.

[00:02:02] But, you know, you won't have to wait in line to get your tickets. So, yeah, check that out for sure. And if you I think there still should be plenty of time because it's going to be from today, September 7th to September 27th. You should have plenty of time if you want to show up at Boxer Fest with some new gear. That is Subaru gear.

[00:02:23] You can go shop SubaruGear.com, pick up a new hat, a new shirt, a backpack, a crossbody bag, new socks, whatever. They have a lot of really, really great things. If you want a refillable water bottle so that you can be sure to stay hydrated because no doubt it's going to be hot because it was hot when I was there back in 2021. And no doubt it's going to be hot again this year. So it's good to stay hydrated and a refillable water bottle is perfect for that.

[00:02:51] So go shop SubaruGear.com, use the code SUBINU2026 at checkout to get 20% off a single item or fill up your cart and you'll get 20% off your entire purchase. And then if your total is over $50 after the 20% discount, you'll also get free shipping, which is really, really great. So yeah, go check it out. SubaruGear.com, browse the site, fill up your cart and save some money.

[00:03:16] Thank you so much Subaru Gear for sponsoring the SUBINU podcast and bringing this offer to the listeners. So I want to do a little car update. Luke's car, his Outback, he's been having some issues with it a little bit more than he had been in the past. And we know that his alternator is going out because we've had it checked twice. We bought him a new battery less than a year ago and it was already dying.

[00:03:41] And when we had it tested back then, they were saying the alternator wasn't pushing enough amperage and voltage. And so we were going to get him one and just like just never really came about. And then his battery was dying, like I said, less than a year later from when we got a new battery. So they gave us another battery at Advance Auto Parts and they checked the alternator again and it's just not pushing enough power.

[00:04:08] So we are going to get him a new one this week, switch it out. And some of the issues that he has had, he looked it up and said that some of those things can be caused by different components not getting enough power or voltage or whatever from the alternator. But hopefully that will fix some of the issues that are going on. Regardless, he still needs a new alternator. So we're going to get him one and then get that switched out, which we've never done that before.

[00:04:37] So that should be a challenge. But we're always up for a challenge and, you know, switching out stuff when and where we can do it ourselves. So we'll go to YouTube University and figure something out. But if anybody's done it on an Outback, his is a 2010. You know, if you have any tips or tricks, I would appreciate that. And we haven't purchased it yet. We'll be purchasing it on Wednesday.

[00:05:03] We're looking to get a remanufactured OEM alternator because I'm also trying to find one that is the most reasonably priced. And that is one that I found that is. So, yeah, we're trying to not spend too much money since his car is so old. It's 16 years old now and he has over 225,000 miles. So I don't want to spend a ton of money on it.

[00:05:29] He also is mainly just driving it back and forth to school and then back and forth to my house. And he drives it a little bit further sometimes. But for the most part, he's not driving it a ton. So, again, we don't need to, like, spend a ton of money on it. But he needs it to be reliable. So, yeah, we're going to be doing that pretty soon. And with my car, with Pearl, I'm pretty close to getting to 150,000 miles. I'm over 149,000 now. I think I'm at, like, 149,400 or something like that.

[00:05:58] So it won't be too much longer before I hit 150. Also, this September 17th, that's going to be my gotcha date for Pearl. I purchased Pearl September 17th of 2020. So I will have had her for six years when the 17th comes around. Uh, you know, and it's been pretty, pretty cool owning a Subaru, my first Subaru. And then because of that, getting connected with a bunch of people.

[00:06:25] And then also starting a podcast, sharing people's stories. And a lot of opportunities that have been absolutely amazing because I bought that car. And, of course, after six years, I still love every single day driving a manual. I do not take that for granted at all. And I enjoy it to its fullest every time I get in my car and drive it. I just, I kind of couldn't imagine not having a manual. But at some point, I'm going to have to not have a manual.

[00:06:54] But for now, I'm going to really eat it up. So I mentioned Boxer Fest earlier. But, of course, that is not the last Subie event that's coming up. We also have Subie Fest Midwest, which is Saturday, October 10th, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, Illinois. Then Subie Fest Florida, Saturday, October 24th, from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Freedom Factory in Bradenton, Florida.

[00:07:18] And then last but not least, Subie Fest Texas, Saturday, December 12th, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Texas Motorplex in Ennis, Texas. The prior three years, we had it at, I think, I can't remember, Lone Star Park, I believe is what it was. And so this year, the venue has changed for Subie Fest Texas. So be sure to pay attention to that. And also, the date has changed because we've typically had it in October somewhere.

[00:07:46] So this is going to be December 12th. So it'll be interesting to see what the weather is like because here in Texas, it can be cold or it can be, you can still be wearing shorts and a t-shirt in December. So you just never know. It's a toss-up. So we'll see how that goes for Subie Fest Texas. But that's really all I have for the Subie Scoop for now. Also, I mean, since we're going to be, since we're getting closer to October, that means we're getting closer to Halloween.

[00:08:15] That means organizations and dealerships and all kinds of groups are going to be having trunk retreats. So be sure to look out for any of those that you see out there on Instagram or Facebook events pages. And go and support and attend those. So, again, that's it for now. Hope you all have a wonderful week. I hope you've had a great three-day weekend for Labor Day. And we'll talk to you later and see you next Monday on a regular episode. Talk to you later.

[00:08:45] Much Subie love. Raph.
