[00:00:00] Hello, this is Will. You can find me on Instagram at supru.guide.11. You are listening to episode

[00:00:22] 166 of the Subie and You podcast. Hello everybody. Thank you for tuning in to another episode

[00:00:30] of the Subie and You podcast. As he just said, we have Will on the podcast today. He is another

[00:00:39] guest on the podcast that I have actually met in person. And that's really cool. I like it when

[00:00:45] I can have somebody on that I've met in person. I met Will at Subie Fest, California in 2022.

[00:00:53] My booth set up at Subie Fest, California. And he was the first one to come over and say hi.

[00:01:00] So that was really cool. That was nice that he did that. And of course he hopped on the mic.

[00:01:05] So this is his third appearance on the podcast because he was there for that bonus episode

[00:01:12] that I did. And then I did the 100th episode where I had patrons come on and Will was on

[00:01:18] that one as well. But this is his very own episode. So it was great to get him on and have him talk

[00:01:26] about his impresa and his Subaru journey. So we will get into that conversation with Will here

[00:01:33] in just a bit. The Subie and You podcast is brought to you by Ascentric Designs. For those

[00:01:39] of you who don't know, Ascentric Designs is a small community-driven business that offers

[00:01:43] custom fit vinyl overlays for most Subaru models. This includes various designs for the rear reflectors,

[00:01:49] tail lights and side tail lights. I also offer fun, detailed designs like the popular fender

[00:01:54] stripes and stickers. To find designs for your Subie, head on over to AscentricDesigns.com.

[00:02:00] There's always more projects in the works so be sure to follow at Ascentric.designs on Instagram.

[00:02:06] As always, thank you so much, Accentric Designs for sponsoring the Subie and You podcast.

[00:02:12] Very much appreciated. I mentioned on last week's episode on the one with Sherman,

[00:02:18] the forester that I was going to put out a bonus episode from my trip that I went on with my son

[00:02:27] to go show him the snow and go try snowboarding. So I am going to put out the bonus episode but

[00:02:34] I just want to say I had a really, really great weekend and we had a lot of fun. It was

[00:02:43] really, really special for me to be able to give him the experience of seeing snow. It was

[00:02:51] some pretty deep snow that we were stepping in and he actually sank down to his butt in some

[00:03:00] snow at one point. So whenever I put out the bonus episode, I'm going to put some photos and

[00:03:06] some video clips from our trip with that of course. So just stay tuned. I'll put it out in the next

[00:03:13] couple of weeks. Last Tuesday, March 19th marked the beginning of spring and now that we are

[00:03:20] into spring you should go check out SubaruGear.com because they have new styles for spring.

[00:03:27] Explore all new SubaruGear from respected brands like Solo Stove, Brumade, Nomadix and more.

[00:03:34] So right there on the homepage you can click the button that says Shop Subaru Gear and it'll

[00:03:39] take you to the page where you can find Subaru Gear for your spring adventures. When you

[00:03:44] shop SubaruGear.com and you go to check out be sure to use the code SUBEY and U24 to get

[00:03:52] 20% off your purchase. And remember if your total is over $50 after the 20% discount you

[00:04:01] automatically get free shipping. Thank you so much SubaruGear.com for sponsoring the

[00:04:06] Subi and U podcast and thank you so much for offering this great discount to all of the

[00:04:12] Subi and U podcast listeners. I have another patron question of the week and this one

[00:04:17] comes from Jim who goes by little Ruby Subi and he asked one of the best questions ever. He asked

[00:04:25] if you could choose a ship from Star Wars what would it be? That is a very very tough question.

[00:04:32] For a very long time my favorite ship has been the Millennium Falcon so that would be a top pick

[00:04:41] but with some of the newer movies featuring TIE fighters a little bit more I don't know. I

[00:04:49] really really torn with this question because the TIE fighters are pretty legit and they seem like

[00:04:56] they're fast and would be fun to fly but I don't know I think that because I've been a fan

[00:05:06] of Star Wars for so long I saw Star Wars in the theaters in 1977 when I was four years old

[00:05:14] and I turned to my parents after it was over and asked if we could watch it again so we stayed

[00:05:19] and watched it again because back in the day you could do that. You could stay in the theater

[00:05:25] and watch the movie again so that's what we did. So since I have been a long time fan of the

[00:05:32] Millennium Falcon that's what I'm gonna have to go with but the TIE fighters are up there.

[00:05:38] So yeah there's my answer thank you so much Jim for your question. This episode is brought to

[00:05:45] you by Ryco Wheels and starting today March 25th through April 1st they are having their

[00:05:52] tax day sale. The sale will be 20% off plus free shipping within the continental United States

[00:06:01] which excludes Hawaii and Alaska but if you are in the market for some really great wheels

[00:06:08] then this is the place to be and if you've had your eye on some Ryco Wheels now is the time

[00:06:15] to pick up a set of Ryco Wheels. The code for the tax day sale is going to be Tax 2024

[00:06:24] so head on over to rycowheels.com check out their selection of wheels and which ones they

[00:06:31] have to offer for your Subaru and get them while this sale is going on. Don't miss out again it's

[00:06:38] March 25th through April 1st 20% off plus free shipping which is I think a really good deal

[00:06:47] and again the code is Tax 2024. I'm very glad and very honored to have Ryka as a sponsor

[00:06:56] and to partner with them so thank you so much Ryka for sponsoring the Subi and you podcast

[00:07:02] and I'm always happy and very glad to be able to help support and let the people know when you

[00:07:08] have these great sales. So thank you very much for putting this out for us. This episode is

[00:07:15] also brought to you by MeleeDesignFirm.com where they believe that quality parts should look

[00:07:21] great while adding functionality to your build. MeleeDesignFirm.com not only will you find their

[00:07:29] battery mounting systems, engine bay caps and other Melee products you will also find products from

[00:07:35] other great brands available on the site. Melee offers products from Anderson Design

[00:07:40] Fabrication, Anti-Gravity Battery, EyeWire, Wiring Solutions as well as products from

[00:07:47] Nameless Performance, Off the Line Performance and of course the all-important Primitive Racing.

[00:07:53] So head on over to MeleeDesignFirm.com for many of your aftermarket needs. Thank you so much Melee

[00:08:00] Design Firm for sponsoring this Subi and you podcast and now here we go with the conversation

[00:08:07] I had with Will who goes by Subaru.Guy.11 and we will hear what he has to say about his

[00:08:16] Subaru journey. Here we go. Hey Will, how's it going? It's nice to have you on here again because

[00:08:38] this is your episode but this is not your first time on the podcast because you were the first

[00:08:45] guest that I had when I was out at Subifest California so that was really cool and then

[00:08:50] we did like I think it was the hundredth episode or something where I had patrons come on and

[00:08:55] you were on that as well so welcome back. Yeah thank you it's good to be back. Yeah it's uh

[00:09:02] it's been a fun journey and it's uh you know it was cool to get you meet get to meet you in person

[00:09:06] so now I get to add that to my list because I'll go through my list every once in a while scroll

[00:09:12] through and look and see like how many of my guests I've actually met in person so now I can

[00:09:18] add you to that to that list. I know this is like the question that we've got to ask and

[00:09:23] I know you've told the answer before but uh you know we can't go on any further without

[00:09:29] answer without getting this one but do you prefer waffles or pancakes? I prefer pancakes.

[00:09:36] All right my man yeah another pancakes guy. I know I made pancakes for breakfast yesterday

[00:09:42] morning and they're pretty good but so how long have you been a fan of Subaru because

[00:09:50] I know that like on your Instagram page you know you say you're like a rally enthusiast and a Subaru

[00:09:56] enthusiast so how long have you been a Subaru fan and like when did that get started?

[00:10:03] So I first saw my very first Subaru at high school when one of my friend's parents

[00:10:10] drove it in and it was a Subaru WX the bug guy and I just fell in love with Subaru ever since.

[00:10:18] Yeah and did you like were you hoping that someday you'd like is a bug guy a dream car of yours or is

[00:10:26] that something that you just saw it and then just interest in all Subaru? I wanted a Subaru bug

[00:10:34] guy back then and then as I was watching the Subaru's grow with their different body styles I started

[00:10:40] liking all of the Subaru's. Yeah there I mean like I knew of Subaru's you know for a while one of my

[00:10:49] friends he wanted to get he was looking at Subaru's at one time and I went to the dealership with him

[00:10:54] and I don't even remember like what you know what he was looking I know he was looking at an

[00:10:59] outback but I don't remember like what the other models were because I didn't I didn't know that

[00:11:04] much about Subaru and I always thought they were kind of funky looking you know which they are

[00:11:08] but that's what makes them different unique and I think that's I think that's one of the things

[00:11:12] that people like about them is because they've always kind of had their own style and that's

[00:11:16] I think that style appeals to a lot of people so I know you're also a rally enthusiast but

[00:11:24] like where and how did that begin? It started a little after high school middle of college when

[00:11:31] I was watching some stuff for class and I was going through YouTube and I saw that they

[00:11:37] did rally and they had a Subaru as the first car on the rally and I just loved it and then

[00:11:46] going through and then still watching through YouTube and watching Hoonigan with Cam Block

[00:11:52] and some of the tricks he was doing with the Subaru and I just felt love with it.

[00:11:58] So what was it that you were having to do for class that got you to you know find out about

[00:12:03] rally? I was in a film study class and we had to go through finding films and it was just one of

[00:12:12] those as I got a little sidetracked from watching the actual film and yeah I stumbled upon rally and

[00:12:20] then and then that was it. Yeah so have you been to any of the rally events or rally cross events?

[00:12:28] Well I've been to a rally cross out here in Salt Lake, Nitro Rally Cross and they did a two day one.

[00:12:37] They do it out at Utah Motor Sports Park every year. Okay so who have you been able to see

[00:12:44] actually driving? I have seen Travis Pastrana driving on the course Scott Speed back when

[00:12:52] they had it when he was racing with Subaru. That's one of the big ones that I went to and then I was

[00:13:00] to the rally just this last year when Leopold jumped into the Class C section in Travis's car.

[00:13:09] That's really cool. It's awesome that you've been able to go see that because I think that would

[00:13:14] be a lot of fun to go watch those because it's so fast paced and you know you've got the

[00:13:20] cars like almost knocking each other off the course and trying to get ahead of everybody.

[00:13:26] It's just like it's kind of like nerve-wracking in one sense but also very exciting so that's

[00:13:32] really cool that you got to see it in person. Yeah it's one of the fun things that I love to watch.

[00:13:38] Did you get a chance to meet anybody while you were there?

[00:13:42] No not this last time I didn't get the pit tickets I just got the regular general

[00:13:47] admission tickets because I was trying to save up to buy my house. Oh yeah yeah yeah so I wanted

[00:13:53] the money to go to the house. No that's smart that's good yeah and congrats on your new house.

[00:13:59] I know before we started recording you said you've been packing up so that's exciting.

[00:14:05] Yeah so where is your house like located the one that you're moving to compared to where

[00:14:11] you're at now? So the one that I'm moving to is in Riverton Utah which is about 30 minutes from

[00:14:21] where I live right now. Does it put you closer or further away from work? I am actually about the

[00:14:27] same distance. Oh that's good that works out well then yeah yeah I know sometimes like people

[00:14:34] end up moving and you know they move because of work so they can be closer and then sometimes

[00:14:39] people it's like hey I found this great house but now I'm like really far from work.

[00:14:43] Yeah I was lucky to have that same amount of time so not too serious to driving.

[00:14:51] Yeah no that's good that's good so like I know that you were I'm sure you were a fan of Subaru

[00:14:57] when you bought your Impreza but like I'm guessing that was also a huge influence as to

[00:15:04] why you bought a Subaru. It was this the Impreza is actually my second Subaru that I personally

[00:15:12] owned. Oh nice. I had a legacy from 2011 as well. Okay so why switch from the legacy to the Impreza?

[00:15:24] I was having some mechanical issues so I decided to sell that trade that one in and get myself

[00:15:30] a newer one. Okay and what year is the Impreza that you're driving now? It's also a 2011.

[00:15:36] Okay and then what trim level? That one's the base model trim and then I've added a few things like

[00:15:44] the trunk is actually off of an 08 WRX. Oh nice you also did some the same body style.

[00:15:52] Okay yeah you also did some taillights too didn't you? Yeah I did the Impreza WRX

[00:15:59] taillights and headlights. Okay nice are there any other mods that you've done? I know you've also

[00:16:05] got the cargo box on top as well. Yes I'm actually working with one of my co-workers at my work

[00:16:13] and we're going to do a two inch rally suspension in the Impreza. Yeah so we're going to be

[00:16:20] lifting at two inches. Oh that'll be fun are you gonna take it out onto some courses and

[00:16:25] have some fun with it? Yeah eventually I will. I just want to get ready put it on and then get used

[00:16:32] to the suspension a little bit before I take it out on the trail. Yeah that'll be fun that'll

[00:16:37] be good because then gets you a little bit extra clearance and you can go out and have some

[00:16:42] some rally fun and pretend you're Travis Pastrana. Yeah so yeah like with the you know

[00:16:52] you had the legacy first and then with the Impreza were you looking at other Subaru models or were you

[00:16:58] like set on the getting the Impreza? I was I was actually looking at an outback and an older

[00:17:05] cross-truck as well but the Impreza just kept appealing to me while I was at work and I bought

[00:17:14] it that next morning when I found out I couldn't take my legacy. Oh yeah so nice. So were you

[00:17:21] set on black as the color or were you looking at other colors as well or did color not really matter?

[00:17:28] Color doesn't really matter to me. Any Subaru actually appeals to me but yeah I saw the

[00:17:35] gradient I'm like I have potential what I I have a vision now that I'm going to do and I'm

[00:17:41] building it the way I want it. Yeah so when you started putting the decals on it like

[00:17:47] what was the first one you put on? The first detail I put on was the wolf and that took me

[00:17:55] about two hours to install. So who designed that for you? It was a company out in Texas.

[00:18:04] I don't remember the name of the company off the top of my head but they built it for me and

[00:18:11] then shipped it out within three months. Nice so did they have like a selection of decals that you

[00:18:17] could choose from or did you tell them what you wanted and they designed it for you? Yeah they

[00:18:23] had a selection of decals I got the silver version they had it in black blue orange red

[00:18:31] but that silver just really appealed on the gray and I picked that one. Yeah it looks really good

[00:18:37] like I mean I think for your car for your Subaru that I think that the the wolf on there is like

[00:18:46] what really makes it stand out and I think it looks great. Yeah that's one of my favorite

[00:18:53] stickers on my car. Yeah because I mean I remember when I first started following you and I would you

[00:18:58] know I would see your posts and everything I was like man that that decal just like really

[00:19:02] stands out and I think it looks great and you did a good job installing it.

[00:19:06] Thank you my baby sister actually came over on the weekend and helped me out with it.

[00:19:12] That's nice yeah that's nice of her to help you out like that.

[00:19:17] So how long did you have the car before you installed that?

[00:19:22] I had it for a year it was actually more like eight months before I put that on because I

[00:19:28] bought it in June July of that year 2021 and then March of 2022 is when I installed it.

[00:19:41] Okay so being that it was like already 10 years old how many miles did it have on it?

[00:19:46] It had when I bought it it had 118,000 miles on it. Okay and right now it has over 137,000.

[00:20:00] Okay so yeah you haven't put too many miles on it that's good keep the maintenance good on it.

[00:20:06] Did it have any maintenance issues when you bought it or was it in pretty good shape?

[00:20:10] It was in pretty good shape the engine was really good my work went through it they did what they

[00:20:18] could everything was good on it. It was a one-owner car before I bought it from my dealership.

[00:20:25] Yeah that's good yeah and it's nice working at a dealership that you can have people you know

[00:20:30] look at it for you you've got access to mechanics and people that'll hook you up and you know

[00:20:35] help you out so that's like really nice especially like as you continue to own it if you have anything

[00:20:41] going wrong with it or just you know want to do some stuff then it's nice to have access to that.

[00:20:47] Yeah so where what is the number 13 like what does that represent?

[00:20:53] That actually represents my birthday I was born on the 13th. Oh nice and everyone

[00:21:01] laughs because a lot of people don't like the number 13 especially when it falls on Friday

[00:21:07] but it's one of my favorite days especially when it lands on the Friday.

[00:21:12] Yeah hey and it's your birthday so that's your number you know yeah that's pretty cool

[00:21:17] so like what would you what are some of your other favorite decals that you have on your car?

[00:21:22] One of my other favorite decals is the Reach Out Worldwide sticker that I have on each side

[00:21:31] each door on the front doors that was a foundation Paul Walker started before he passed away.

[00:21:38] Oh yeah that was in his car accident yeah and so I support them and I've actually volunteered once

[00:21:46] or twice with them while they come through Utah and help build houses. Oh okay yeah I was going to

[00:21:51] ask what it is that they do so is it kind of like habitat for humanity in a sense? Yeah yeah

[00:21:59] it's kind of like right now his brother Cody actually runs the foundation but yeah they build

[00:22:06] houses they go to other countries they even help give shots if needed if you're trained to

[00:22:12] give shots they help with a bunch of things mostly building houses though.

[00:22:19] Okay how many times have you been able to help them out?

[00:22:23] Twice two times. Okay that's good yeah that's really nice if they do that and it's good that

[00:22:27] you've been able to participate in that so I know so I know you've got the the tail lights and

[00:22:33] the headlights and you changed out the trunk and then you've got the the lift coming up are

[00:22:39] there any other mods that you're going to be doing in the near future or that you've planned?

[00:22:45] Eventually I'm going to get new wheels and tires I wanted to get some more aggressive tires for

[00:22:51] rally racing. Yeah that'd be good. And show that it's a rally car. Any particular wheels that

[00:22:57] you're looking at or are you just kind of shopping around and seeing what's out there?

[00:23:02] Right now I'm just shopping around because I'm going to look for the right wheel

[00:23:06] that represents a rally style wheel to help to make it look more rally car.

[00:23:13] Yeah that'd be nice it'll be good to see what you end up going with and then what about tires do

[00:23:17] you have some tires in mind? Probably the Yokohama tires because that's what I've always gotten

[00:23:27] on in all my cars including my whole truck that I used to have many years ago.

[00:23:32] Okay yeah now that'll be good that'd be nice to get that. Yeah because that was one of my questions

[00:23:37] if you're going to get any if you're looking at doing any aftermarket wheels at some point so

[00:23:42] that'll be that'll be nice it'll make it look good and then get that like rally inspiration

[00:23:47] going so kind of complete your overall look and what you're going for.

[00:23:54] Yeah so where did you come up with the name Luna for your car?

[00:24:00] The gray me putting the wolf on the car I thought of it being a really popular name for the gray

[00:24:10] wolf out there and so I thought well since I'm building a wolf styled version car let's name

[00:24:18] it after that. Okay yeah it's nice and then like what is your Instagram handle suberu.guy11

[00:24:26] like where did that come from? That came from when I originally when I had the legacy because

[00:24:32] I'm a huge Subaru fan by that point and I just started building my sube that legacy up

[00:24:40] to where it was before it broke and the 11 comes from the year my car was on.

[00:24:47] Yeah well it's a good thing that you went with another 2011.

[00:24:51] Yeah I just like that body style yeah it's a really nice body style too it looks really good

[00:24:58] and just again I think like the decals that you have on it the wolf it kind of just the wolf

[00:25:05] just seems to like really flow with the body style and then you know it looks good with

[00:25:09] the cargo box on top too. So what do you keep in the cargo box? I keep a set of go treads

[00:25:18] in there the ones that are one from that giveaway. Oh yeah nice. I have a big tent in there

[00:25:28] some camping chairs and my canopy in there. Nice yeah it's good to have that extra storage up there

[00:25:36] So do you go camping often?

[00:25:40] Yes I haven't been this year because of the snow

[00:25:45] but I try and go camping at least two times a year just around Utah places because we have

[00:25:52] so many national parks here that I try and go see them all. Okay how many have you been to?

[00:25:59] I've been to four of them. Okay how many do you all have total out there?

[00:26:06] I think six. Okay yeah I have to look again but yeah we've got a couple more to go then.

[00:26:16] Yeah I go to Moab a lot because I used to have family that lived in southern Utah.

[00:26:22] Okay how far is that for or how far of a drive is that for you?

[00:26:27] For me from Salt Lake it's about a four hour drive. Oh that's not bad.

[00:26:33] Yeah same distance as it would be from Salt Lake to St. George Utah.

[00:26:37] Okay yeah no that's good it's nice that you have Moab close because I know a lot of people

[00:26:42] on the podcast talk about it and then that they've either that they've either been there

[00:26:48] or people that say that that's like one spot that they really want to make it out to so that's

[00:26:53] nice that you've got it not too far away. Yeah I took my truck out there a lot more though

[00:26:59] when I had that because of how big the truck was. Yeah yeah that makes sense

[00:27:04] so how does your car do in the snow with the tires that you have?

[00:27:09] It does pretty good I have all season tires on my car okay and with the with the all-wheel drive

[00:27:16] it just plows right through the snow. Yeah it's definitely the all-wheel drive definitely helps

[00:27:22] and I know that that's uh Subaru is definitely good for making it through the snow. Do you get a

[00:27:28] chance to do any drifting anywhere? Not here with the car just because I usually go straight

[00:27:35] to work when it snows because I help with clearing the snow in the parking lot. Oh okay yeah

[00:27:41] so yeah it's uh it's definitely fun I've done it in you know with uh Pearl whenever we had the big

[00:27:48] snowstorm here and hopefully I can do it again at some point but I don't I don't wish like the snow

[00:27:55] storm on anybody but it'd be nice to be able to like drive out somewhere sometime and find some snow

[00:28:00] but so what's the furthest distance you've driven? I have driven my my impress to Arizona

[00:28:09] and to California in a week and then back. Nice. To Salt Lake. Yeah that's good. I've done that a few

[00:28:16] times. Yeah so where like we're out we're out in California do you usually go? Los Angeles

[00:28:24] okay for the CB Fest yeah and then I go as far south there's a place called Yuma Arizona

[00:28:33] that's where my dad lives okay so it's about a 13 hour drive from Salt Lake to Yuma. Wow

[00:28:40] yeah it's about how many times have you made that trip? I have driven that trip twice

[00:28:48] last year though I drove down through Phoenix and visited my sister and then drove down into Yuma.

[00:28:54] Okay that's nice that you've got family in different locations so that you can you kind of

[00:28:58] have an excuse to take some road trips. Yeah it's fun. So how many times have you been to

[00:29:05] CB Fest California and is that the only CB Fest event you've been to? It is the only CB Fest

[00:29:12] I've been to I've been there three times now and I just got my tickets last month for this

[00:29:20] year's CB Fest. Nice. So this will be my fourth time going. Do you have you put your car in the

[00:29:26] show or do you just go and attend? Yeah my car was actually in the show last year I did enter for

[00:29:34] the show this year again I'm just waiting to hear back okay if my car made it in. So what is your

[00:29:41] one of your favorite things about CB Fest and like like who are some of the people that you've

[00:29:46] been able to meet that you got that you would you know look forward to meeting

[00:29:51] we either like celebrities or just people in the community?

[00:29:56] I enjoy it the fun part is seeing everyone seeing all the seabroos out there how many

[00:30:03] seabroos there are and then I have met a bunch of instagram followers that I follow and we

[00:30:11] follow each other. Leah who goes by Sonic SDI 2018 yeah yeah my notes just went away

[00:30:27] and then I've met Sky, I've met Christina and then Rachel Brasile yeah and I've also met Sammy

[00:30:47] so yeah there's there's quite a few. Yeah so since you're gonna put the lift on and get some

[00:30:54] you know different wheels and tires I know that Sky does like rally cross are you going to like

[00:31:01] connect with her and see about getting out to one of the courses? Yeah I'm gonna get with her and

[00:31:07] try and go out to California to do one of those rallies we actually just did a rally together

[00:31:14] in Utah at Flaming Gorge and oh that's right yeah so how was that?

[00:31:23] It was fun it was different I've never done a winter rally or even ridden a car for winter rally

[00:31:31] and so I went up there my car wasn't ready for it so I took a rental car up and

[00:31:38] did some fun videos and pictures of the rally racing and then I stayed there for

[00:31:47] three nights. Yeah now did you get to ride along or did you get to drive?

[00:31:54] Yeah I did a few ride-alongs, I did three cars on ride-alongs. Okay so what was that experience

[00:32:03] like? It was really fun I got more addicted to rally since. Yeah so going from a fan to being able to

[00:32:16] like do a ride-along and kind of have the actual experience I'm sure that was really nice.

[00:32:22] Yeah so do you think you'll ever try to make it out to any of the other

[00:32:26] Subifest events or just continue going to Subifest California? I would like to go out to

[00:32:33] like Subifest Texas, Subifest Florida see what those are like and then I also do

[00:32:43] Winterfest in Utah when they come through. Yeah that's yeah I always forget that they do the

[00:32:49] Winterfest at the different event or at the different ski resorts so I think that would be

[00:32:53] fun to go to at some point but I might have to try to make it out to one. It's just tough because

[00:32:59] everything is so far away and like there's nothing really close by that except for Subifest Texas now

[00:33:05] which I'm very thankful for but other than that anything else I would really have to fly out

[00:33:10] to because it would just be it'd be hard to take all the time off work to drive out to somewhere

[00:33:16] but you know I'm envious of those people that are close by to all the events and you

[00:33:21] know all the cool stuff. Yeah when they do Winterfest here in Salt Lake it's up in a new resort

[00:33:28] a newer resort called Woodward and my dealership helps with the cars up there but also when Bucky

[00:33:36] came in he borrowed a car from us and drove it up there. Oh nice that's cool so I know you've

[00:33:44] met Bucky I know I was scrolling through your Instagram page I know that you also met Ken

[00:33:48] Block if you what are some of you met some of the other drivers as well? I met Scott Speed at Subifest

[00:34:00] my dream is to meet Travis Pastrana. Yeah I think that goes for a lot of people especially fans of

[00:34:07] Raleigh. Yeah and then Brandon Schimelik. Oh nice that's cool yeah that's uh I know it's

[00:34:17] unfortunate about Ken but that's good that you were able to meet him you know and uh because I know

[00:34:22] for a lot of people that he was a big inspiration and he was just such a great guy so that's cool

[00:34:28] that you got to meet him. And then I met his daughter and his wife and I met them at a go-kart

[00:34:36] track here in Salt Lake so. Oh yeah that's right because they would do karting also right?

[00:34:42] Yeah that's fun yeah it'd be fun to I don't know if we have any of those karting tracks out here in

[00:34:47] Texas but that'd be a lot of fun to see and I think that'd be fun to drive on one of those

[00:34:52] maybe a little scary too because those things go really fast. Yeah the one I met them at was an

[00:34:58] indoor track and it was my first time at that track and it was pretty different than what I'm

[00:35:05] used to driving. Yeah yeah that's cool now it's cool that you got to do that. So what would you

[00:35:11] say about Luna brings you the most joy? A lot of stuff um brings me so much joy. Luna just

[00:35:20] brings me a lot of joy because I could go on adventures with her. I can do what I want with

[00:35:27] my dream of how I want my super to look. It's it's me pretty much. Yeah and speaking of that like what

[00:35:37] would you say about your impresa that best matches your personality? The adventures yeah I go on a

[00:35:46] lot of adventures with it and when I first got my impresa the very first time was my very

[00:35:54] first trip also out to Seabee Fest. Oh nice yeah a good way to break her in. Yeah so it was just one

[00:36:04] of those things is I fell in love with my car and then going on that trip it was probably the best

[00:36:10] trip I've ever had with my cars. And how far is Seabee Fest for you? It is about a 12 hour drive

[00:36:19] 10 to 12 hour drive from my house that I currently live at to LA. And do you do that straight through?

[00:36:29] I did once the other two times I've driven down to Arizona to see family on my way to California.

[00:36:35] Okay that's nice I mean that's good that you have a spot that you can stop and you know break

[00:36:41] up the trip and visit family on the way because then you know you're not trying to

[00:36:45] because that's a long drive to try to go straight through and then you know if you didn't have the

[00:36:50] family and you didn't want to drive straight through you'd have to you know stop somewhere

[00:36:54] and stay but that's great that you have families you can visit along the way because then you

[00:36:57] can see them on the way there and see them on the way back if you want I guess. Yeah it's

[00:37:03] really fun I enjoy it Arizona is home to me as well so yeah no that's good is that is that

[00:37:11] where you're from? I was born in Tucson Arizona okay so yeah I haven't different climates yeah

[00:37:20] yeah I've been to Arizona but I haven't been to Tucson I've flown into Phoenix so I've felt that

[00:37:26] heat and from Phoenix we drove up to uh what is it um where's it where they have the uh

[00:37:34] Overland Expo Flagstaff yeah so I drove up to Flagstaff uh one summer of me and my kids because

[00:37:40] we had some friends that lived up there and that was that was a lot of fun and when we were leaving

[00:37:46] and going back home we went to go fill up the car with some gas before we dropped it off at

[00:37:51] the rental car place and got outside and of course I'm under the canopy so I'm not in the sun

[00:37:57] but man it was like 120 degrees that day and like that heat you just you feel like you're standing

[00:38:04] inside of an oven I mean that's just it's so crazy and uh and then and it's so different it's such a

[00:38:11] like different comparison between that and Flagstaff because when we were in Flagstaff it was like

[00:38:17] 90 degrees but it was only like 10 humidity which was awesome because here in Houston

[00:38:24] you know it can be 90 degrees outside and like 90 humidity and it sucks so yeah being in Arizona

[00:38:32] with 90 or in Flagstaff with 90 degree temperatures but only 10 humidity it it just it felt really

[00:38:39] really nice and very different and comforting to be outside in in 90 degree temperature but not

[00:38:45] you know it should be sweating because it's so humid yeah I I enjoy Arizona I always try and go

[00:38:52] back at least once or twice a year because it's it's home to me and so how far is that so so

[00:38:58] subefest is 12 hours but how far is it to get to where your family is in Arizona

[00:39:04] so my my sister brother-in-law and nephew living in Phoenix Arizona so about an eight hour drive

[00:39:12] oh that's not too bad yeah and then my dad like I said lives in Yuma Arizona which

[00:39:19] if you look it's as far south as you possibly can go on the western side of America before you hit

[00:39:27] Mexico okay okay gotcha it my the Yuma is about five miles to Mexico oh wow yeah that's really close

[00:39:39] five ten miles so yeah it's right there in the middle of nowhere in the corner yeah well if you

[00:39:47] could if you could describe your impressive and one word what would it be adventurous yeah

[00:39:54] yeah that's good yeah and you've got some more adventures coming up once you get some other stuff

[00:40:00] going on with it that'd be fun so how long have you worked for Subaru I am just back in September

[00:40:11] I started my third year I started first working with Subaru during COVID in 2020 okay and so

[00:40:21] and how like were you was that something that you were wanting to do or did you just like need another

[00:40:25] job and that's you know what came up it was it was something I wanted to do I I love

[00:40:31] Subaru and my dream was to always work for Subaru or do something with Subaru and I got the job and

[00:40:41] I love working there well you know I just so tomorrow morning which is going to be two weeks

[00:40:49] before your episode comes out I'm putting out the final segment of 48 hours of tri-state and

[00:40:55] it was really really cool to be able to go up and see Subaru of America's headquarters

[00:41:01] and then go to Subaru of Indiana the plant so I if you have an opportunity to go be a part of 48

[00:41:09] hours of tri-state or just go up to because I think I think they always go to Subaru of America

[00:41:15] or start off there or in there so I mean if you get a chance to do that I highly recommend it

[00:41:22] because the 48 hours of tri-state event itself is really good you get to meet like so many people

[00:41:28] that are die hard you know Subaru enthusiasts and you get to see Subaru of America and then you know

[00:41:34] they don't always go to Subaru of Indiana they do that I think every few years so I just happened

[00:41:39] to go the year that they went there but if you have a chance to go visit the plant in Subaru

[00:41:43] of Indiana or go visit the plant in Indiana highly highly recommend that it's like one of the

[00:41:50] coolest things because you go do the tour and you see all these cars being built in different

[00:41:56] stages and just the infrastructure that they have in that facility is just absolutely crazy I mean

[00:42:03] it's it's so cool so highly recommend if you get a chance to do that yeah and that's one of my

[00:42:10] dreams is to go see those yeah well if you can do it I you know I would go do it that'd be a lot

[00:42:16] of fun so how has owning your Subaru and being part of the community changed your life

[00:42:23] it actually has saved my life um before I got my first Subaru I was kind of like

[00:42:33] I was having some family issues but not just family issues I was having mental issues at the time

[00:42:40] and my Subaru saved my life and it let me be myself because I built up my last Subaru I built

[00:42:48] my the way I wanted it to look this Subaru I'm now building it the way I wanted to look and

[00:42:54] it represents who I am and I've just loved Subaru's ever since

[00:43:02] so did you know about the community before you bought your your first Subaru

[00:43:09] I did not um before I would had my first Subaru I was actually in the Chevy truck

[00:43:17] and I was in the Chevy community before and then when I got my Subaru and saw how much better the

[00:43:23] Subaru community was and how they were they were more like to help there to like if you need something

[00:43:31] or something was going on they were always there um one time I had a flat tire on my

[00:43:36] side of the road with my Subaru three other Subaru showed up to help me change my tire

[00:43:41] yeah when I had my truck no one did that yeah I mean there's just there's something about the

[00:43:48] Subaru community and the Subaru culture and people just being it seems like with the Subaru

[00:43:54] community you find a group of very genuine and caring people you know that like yeah are willing to

[00:44:02] drop anything that they're doing to help somebody out if they need it and uh you know

[00:44:06] that's like one of the great things about being in this community is because you know

[00:44:11] that people will be there to help you and uh I mean so so did these cars just happen to show up

[00:44:17] because they were driving by and saw that you were having an issue yeah um my phone actually

[00:44:24] died that day because I forgot to charge it and it when the tire went and my my jack also

[00:44:33] actually broke what and it's crazy being on the side of the freeway broken jack no phone and those

[00:44:43] three just randomly show it they just pulled over and said hey you need help I'm like yeah

[00:44:50] I have my spare but I can't get my car up both two guys jumped out of uh two of the

[00:44:56] city reasons started helping me get the jacket jack up the car so I could get the tire off

[00:45:01] oh man that's awesome we became friends and we still kind of talk but

[00:45:09] because life sometimes gets pretty busy um but yeah we're still hanging out as much as we can

[00:45:15] yeah I mean it's yeah you end up connecting with I guess that's kind of the problem sometimes

[00:45:22] is you connect with so many people that it's it's hard to keep up with everybody you know so

[00:45:28] it's uh because I deal with that where it's like I'll realize there's somebody I haven't

[00:45:33] messaged or talked to in a really long time and and it's like you know I just we have everybody

[00:45:40] has so much going on and there's just like there's so many different people to connect

[00:45:46] with that it could take you like all day just to try to keep up with everybody but you know

[00:45:51] it's nice because you can message somebody you haven't messaged in a while and you know

[00:45:55] nobody's like oh where have you been you know I haven't heard from you in a long time it's just

[00:45:59] like hey how's it going nice to hear from you yeah and uh and and I think you know like you said

[00:46:05] you know meeting people in the community out at subifast California that I think that's one of

[00:46:09] the best things and is getting to meet people that you've connected with in person yeah so

[00:46:16] I'm guessing you think you'll always own a Subaru yeah it's uh I mean it's it's a great car

[00:46:22] and it's a great community and a great culture yeah the way that I've now grown since the

[00:46:28] lot for both these cars I'm gonna always be with my seabroos um my next seabroo I'm looking at

[00:46:36] maybe be an outback because I want to go on more adventures and go out there more

[00:46:41] yeah that'll definitely get you to more trails yes the uh the off-road community is

[00:46:47] is a lot of fun and uh it's uh you you meet you know you meet like a whole new group of people

[00:46:54] and you get to experience all kinds of new things and get to places that you wouldn't

[00:46:59] have been able to get to before and uh that's like so it's so great about it well another

[00:47:05] place that I like to go visit with my seabroos I've done it with both my impressive and my

[00:47:10] legacy is the bondable salt flats just west of Salt Lake City how far is that from me I drive my car

[00:47:19] it's an hour drive oh man that's nice yeah so it's right between Wendover and Salt Lake City

[00:47:28] um yeah you have to drive uh there's a rest up there you can actually take your car out

[00:47:32] on to the flats depending on the year um winter I don't recommend it because your car can seek

[00:47:38] in the salt because of how wet it is oh in the summer you could you could drive out on the flats

[00:47:44] have fun take fun pictures nice that's how many times you've been out there um ever since I was a

[00:47:53] little kid going on family trips with my family oh that's cool nice yeah I mean being that like

[00:47:59] now that's like only an hour from you that's very convenient yeah and so yeah well here's the

[00:48:08] little segment to uh get to know the person behind the account but who is Will? Will is an adventurous

[00:48:16] guy who likes to go on adventures hang out and help the community where I can um do what I can

[00:48:24] to help others yeah so what are some of the things that you've done to help other people

[00:48:31] um like I said earlier I volunteered with Reach Out Worldwide um I

[00:48:38] volunteered for two years uh as a tutor in an elementary school with teaching math nice

[00:48:45] and then I helped me and two of my friends also did a car show last year with my work got with

[00:48:55] my work and we had a little all-super car meet in the parking lot and just stuff like that

[00:49:01] that's always a very good use of your time and then when I lived up in the uh a co-op in Salt Lake

[00:49:11] I was a volunteer firefighter for a little bit oh nice that's cool so did you experience anything

[00:49:18] crazy doing that? I did help with a wildfire um but I was on the front I was on the more

[00:49:25] the back lines of that because I was only a volunteer at the time yeah um eventually I would love to

[00:49:31] move my way up into the volunteer firefighter community and actually be on the front lines but

[00:49:38] yeah that's a good uh goal and aspiration to have so we already talked about where you were born

[00:49:44] but uh what is a favorite memory from your childhood? Going camping with my family uh we

[00:49:52] would pack we had a Volkswagen Euro van at the time oh nice our regular van uh we would just go

[00:50:00] up to the Uintah Mountains and just go camping yeah summer and we do that like three four times a year

[00:50:06] that's really cool yeah I uh I feel bad that I haven't gone camping more especially like with

[00:50:13] my son because like we used to go quite a bit when he was in Cub Scouts but you know it was

[00:50:18] like I think that's what made it easier for me is because it was like all organized and somebody

[00:50:23] else was planning it and we would just have to bring our stuff along you know so uh but I just yeah

[00:50:28] I need to do it sometime because I've got some I have camping gear I just haven't used it but

[00:50:34] that's uh the camping's always when I had my truck I would go camping all the time though

[00:50:39] yeah it's uh it's definitely fun so we know what you do for work but do you have a dream job?

[00:50:46] Yes I do um my dream job would be to actually own and operate a detailing shop where we could

[00:50:55] detail cars make them do ceramic coating on the cars do undercarriage on a lot of cars because

[00:51:02] here in Utah salt destroys the bottom of a lot of cars and I would love to open up a

[00:51:09] detail shop that actually cleans the bottom of the cars so it could get rid of all the salt

[00:51:16] so do you have uh like undercarriage protection on your car and do you do the ceramic coating on your car?

[00:51:22] I do the ceramic coating on my car myself and then I don't have protection under my car right now

[00:51:30] I would love to get it eventually um and do like a ceramic coat or something underneath to help

[00:51:37] protect it yeah that's important yeah we don't have to deal with that here salt up here destroys

[00:51:44] yeah we don't have to deal with any of that here we just deal with like hurricanes and flooding and

[00:51:49] you know but there's always something to deal with somewhere

[00:51:54] so besides getting out in your empresa and driving around and just enjoying

[00:51:58] you know having a Subaru driving a Subaru being in the community what other hobbies do you have?

[00:52:04] I build a lot of Lego model cars um and I grew up with Legos

[00:52:12] and also RCs oh I have two versions of our Subaru RCs actually I have a Rockcrawler

[00:52:20] Subaru Bratt and then I have the Subaru WRX rally car as an RC car nice you uh I saw you had a photo

[00:52:33] in your feed somewhere where you had gone out golfing with your family is that something that

[00:52:37] you do occasionally? Yes um I in the summertime I go golfing at least six or seven times depending

[00:52:46] on how busy my week is um I grew up as an avid golfer um when I first learned how to golf I

[00:52:54] actually gulped right-handed for a while oh because I'm a lefty I actually now golf left

[00:53:00] so I could actually switch hit nice that's really cool yeah if you get like in one of those situations

[00:53:07] depending on where you're facing and which way you're facing that could come in handy

[00:53:12] yeah it does a few times yeah so what is something that makes you want to get out of bed every day

[00:53:21] hanging out with friends going to work I love going to work that's good that you

[00:53:28] enjoy going to work and what is something that makes you want to stay in bed

[00:53:35] sometimes the weather yeah I've been getting that answer a lot lately especially if it's you

[00:53:40] know people that live in cold climates they're like oh if it's cold or if it's dreary outside

[00:53:45] I just don't want to get out of bed there are times when it like it will hit let's say

[00:53:51] like 50 degrees today but tonight it's going to be in the 20s oh yeah can I just stay in bed

[00:54:00] yeah now that's definitely a good reason to stay in bed yeah I mean here for like we don't get

[00:54:05] really cold weather but like when it's sometimes it'll start raining really really hard and I'm just

[00:54:10] like I don't want to go like sometimes I have to go somewhere like I you know need something

[00:54:15] from the store or like whatever and I'm just like I do not want to go outside it's just like no I mean

[00:54:22] that's because people are like oh I love it when it's rain when it rains it's like yeah it's great

[00:54:26] if you can stay indoors you don't have to go anywhere but it sucks when you have to go somewhere

[00:54:30] and like where I live my where my um with my apartment I don't have a garage or anything

[00:54:36] this there's no covered parking so to get to my car if it's pouring down rain I'm going to get

[00:54:42] soaking wet which sucks but thankfully it's that's usually not pouring down rain when I have to go

[00:54:48] out to my car so I'm thankful for that we actually had a snowstorm last week that I wish I was at home

[00:54:55] because when it hit it hit so bad that we could only see maybe 100 feet in front of us so that was

[00:55:03] it oh yeah so it storms like that it's like can I just stay home all day long

[00:55:10] don't want to go anywhere don't want to drive yeah it's uh that can be uh dangerous too to be out in

[00:55:18] those conditions so what would be your best bit of advice to give to someone about anything

[00:55:24] stick with your dreams um and then help with the dreams to so it could help you

[00:55:30] have your dreams come true um if you can help volunteer there are places that could

[00:55:37] volunteer to help people um mostly stick with your dreams though yeah that's good that's a good one
