[00:00:00] Hi there, this is Missy. You can find me on Instagram at the underscore spoon again. You're

[00:00:17] listening to episode 167 of the Subie & You podcast. So that is the little intro from

[00:00:23] Missy but there's actually not going to be a podcast today because I just didn't feel like putting

[00:00:30] one out. You know, I got kind of lazy and I recorded with Missy of course but I just didn't feel

[00:00:38] like putting one out today. But of course since it's April Fools you know of course there's a

[00:00:44] podcast. Come on, I'm not going to not put a podcast out just because it's April Fools. There's a

[00:00:50] podcast today. I have Missy on the podcast today she was the first person that I rode with at 48

[00:00:59] hours of tri-state and I was glad to get her on the podcast because we'd actually been talking for a

[00:01:06] while before 48 hours of tri-state so it was great to meet her out there at 48 hours of tri-state

[00:01:13] and I'm thankful that she allowed me to drive her BRZ. It was just around the parking lot of

[00:01:20] the hotel but it was nice to get that experience, to get the feel for it and I would like to drive one

[00:01:28] further if I can at some point so thank you so much Missy for that and it was great again riding

[00:01:34] with her in the BRZ and getting the experience of that first segment of leaving New Jersey to head

[00:01:42] out to Subaru of Indiana but we will hear all about her story here in just a bit and that conversation

[00:01:51] that I had with her. The Subaru In-U podcast is brought to you by Ascentric Designs. For those of

[00:01:57] you who don't know Ascentric Designs is a small community driven business that offers custom fit vinyl

[00:02:03] overlays for most Subaru models. This includes various designs for the rear reflectors,

[00:02:08] tail lights and side tail lights. I also offer fun decal designs like the popular fender stripes

[00:02:13] and stickers. Define designs for your Subaru head on over to AscentricDesigns.com. There's always

[00:02:19] more projects in the works so be sure to follow at Ascentric.designs on Instagram. Thank you so much

[00:02:25] Ascentric Designs for sponsoring this Subaru In-U podcast. Very very much appreciated and glad to

[00:02:32] be partnering with you. I have another patron question of the week and this one comes from Gail

[00:02:39] who goes by Norwegian Girl 21. She asks, showers or baths? Always showers. Not that I wouldn't take a

[00:02:47] bath but I just I don't know. I just showers are easy and convenient and I like to have a constant

[00:02:57] flow of warm water and because I know when I was younger I would take a bath and the water

[00:03:04] would eventually get cold and I didn't like that. So I've always liked showers but I mean I guess

[00:03:11] there's a place and a time for a good bath. I just haven't had one in a while so I don't know

[00:03:18] maybe it's time to take a bath at some point but thank you so much for your question Gail.

[00:03:24] This episode is brought to you by Subaru Gear.com. If you go to the website there's a button that says

[00:03:31] new and if you click on that button you can shop new Subaru apparel and gear. Who doesn't love new gear?

[00:03:39] Shop the latest Subaru Gear and apparel and be the trendsetter for all enthusiasts.

[00:03:47] Scrolling through the page you will find hats, plenty of t-shirts and hoodies,

[00:03:53] lots of drinkware and many other great Subaru and Subaru Motorsports USA branded items. So go check

[00:04:02] out the new section of Subaru Gear.com and be sure to use a code, SubiNU24 at checkout to get 20% off

[00:04:13] of your purchase. And if your purchase amount is greater than $50 after the 20% discount you will

[00:07:59] get into this conversation with Missy aka the spoon again and hear about her Subaru journey so here we go.

[00:08:09] Alright now we can get started. Okay but I have to ask the first question which is the most

[00:08:31] important question of all of them and whether you prefer waffles or pancakes. I'm sad to say that I

[00:08:40] am people awful awful specifically yeah specifically the thin crispy pecan waffles from a certain

[00:08:53] little tiny 24 hour breakfast place and I like mine with chocolate chips added also.

[00:09:00] See if I would have known you were if I would have known you're a waffle person I wouldn't

[00:09:04] have agreed to ride with you at 48 hours of trust. I'm kidding. I'm kidding. But you didn't ask.

[00:09:13] Yeah that's true. And actually I did agonize over that for probably about an hour and I thought yeah

[00:09:21] you know I'm just not so particular about pancakes and I've really never had good pancakes out

[00:09:28] so yeah I'm sorry waffles. That's okay because I mean at least I like waffles if I didn't like

[00:09:35] waffles then I might have a problem with that answer. Yeah and then just hit leave and that would

[00:09:42] be the end of it. The shortest in history. Yeah well okay so getting to your Subaru or Subaru's

[00:09:52] because I know that you not only have the BRZ but you also have a sand bar now. But with your BRZ

[00:10:01] is that your first BR or is that your first Subaru? It is not my first Subaru it is my second Subaru

[00:10:08] my first Subaru was a 1997 90 this Subaru Legacy wagon. I think the name of the color is

[00:10:20] Alpine green and it was just very very basic but it was super dependable and eventually the

[00:10:30] I think the head gasket's went it had like 240 some on 1000 miles. That's pretty good. We got

[00:10:36] that fixed. It was the first car for my older bonus son and my two younger biological sons so

[00:10:48] okay they were introduced to Subaru's at a rather young age and they now both are

[00:10:55] well that's good. That's the way to do it yeah. Yeah I mean introduce them with one car and then

[00:11:00] they continue on with their own. Yep. So how did you get into owning that Subaru? Like did you

[00:11:08] had you wanted to Subaru or was it just like you were looking for a car and you happened to come

[00:11:13] across that one and did you know about Subaru's? What's the story with that first one?

[00:11:18] Oh the first one the first one was given to me it was my mother's car and I had a what did I have?

[00:11:29] I think it was the Dodge Stratus and it I don't even remember what was wrong with it but it was

[00:11:37] it was horribly expensive like in the thousands of dollar to fix and she said you know I just really

[00:11:45] don't need this car so you can just hear I'll write you a bill of sale for $100 so you can just go

[00:11:51] get a title put in your name and so yeah. That was nice. So I kind of locked into it and that was very

[00:11:58] very very nice for because that that was the probably one of the best things that I could have done

[00:12:05] about a car because at the time I was not in a position to go and finance anything that was

[00:12:11] that was good. I appreciated that very much and it's led to all this so yeah so I mean

[00:12:18] things long time ago and you just don't ever realize where you're gonna end up. Yeah so driving

[00:12:24] that car and how long did you how am I well yeah I guess how many years did you end up driving it?

[00:12:30] Let's see probably four or five at least. Okay and then were you just sold on Subaru then?

[00:12:42] I liked Subaru's. I wasn't I wasn't as attached to them as I am now because between that Subaru

[00:12:51] and my BRZ I had I had a Dodge Ram pick up and a Durango and a Chevy tracks. Okay yeah but then you

[00:13:01] came back to the good to the good side to the good cars. Yes yes and that's my middle son's fault

[00:13:10] it's it's completely his fault that I have a BRZ because he has one also right? He does

[00:13:18] has a 2017 series yellow and I test drove it around the parking lot for maybe I don't know

[00:13:26] less than five minutes and got out and said yeah I'm gonna have one of these. How long ago was that

[00:13:35] did you drove his? 2019 and it took me three weeks to be able to to pull the trigger and say yes

[00:13:44] I'm ready to go buy one now so but it worked out because I got to order mine from the factory and

[00:13:52] I have since found out that yeah they they do know that they're building them for somebody that

[00:13:58] ordered it and not just to send somewhere to sell. So somewhere in a factory in Japan in October of

[00:14:06] 2022 that we're building my car and they knew that we're building. That's silly I know but

[00:14:13] no not silly at all you know yeah it's I mean it's it's nice that you were able to order it like

[00:14:19] that and then you know get it finally and get into the BRZ after having driven your sons and

[00:14:27] now here you are yep here I am so I and it's a 23 correct yours

[00:14:36] yes yes it is. Okay so is the spoon again the name of your BRZ or is that just the name of your

[00:14:44] Instagram account? No that's just my Instagram account and there's a whole story behind that

[00:14:52] before the 2022 or before the 2023 48 hours of tri-state event my Instagram account used to be

[00:15:01] my government name and I thought I really just you know I didn't want to be I wanted to make

[00:15:08] Instagram friends but I didn't want to be writing my name down. Yeah I thought I've got to think

[00:15:14] of something that's more more car related and more unique and more memorable and it was right after

[00:15:25] Ken Block had passed. May he rest in peace? Yes and I am a huge huge fan of the entire block family

[00:15:34] and I thought I can't do Hoonigan because that I just you know I could never I could never do

[00:15:42] justice to that yeah one of the nicknames for a cook in the army is a spoon and I cook in an

[00:15:51] orthodox and unconventional manner and so spoon again. Yeah that's good it's fitting

[00:15:59] and memorable like he said. Thanks. You're welcome yeah and so what is the name of your BRZ then

[00:16:08] or do you have a name for it? I do she does have a name her name name is Sokudosa which means

[00:16:15] honorable lady speed she is not but she looks fast. Well I'm I mentioned it whenever we were driving

[00:16:23] in your BRZ that your BRZ is definitely faster than my cross-trade so to me it would be fast.

[00:16:31] Well yeah but it's not it isn't fast compared to like my youngest son's WRX is his is fast. Yeah

[00:16:43] and that's okay. Yeah exactly it's fun it was definitely I mean I didn't drive it for very long

[00:16:48] but it was I could see where if I could get it out like you know more of an open road and not just

[00:16:54] parking lot that it could be a lot of fun to drive. Yeah and and it really it's not so much about

[00:17:00] the speed it's about the handling because there have been so many times when I have had to suddenly

[00:17:07] avoid something in the road and that car is you point it still and it goes exactly where you want

[00:17:16] it to go no hesitation and it comes right back. That's good. The handling is absolutely unlivable.

[00:17:23] That's nice yeah I would love to drive one a little bit more maybe when I go to a dealership

[00:17:30] or something I could be like hey do you have a BRZ I can just go out and drive around for a little bit

[00:17:34] that would be fun. Yeah and you can tell them I've driven one before. Yeah that's right be like

[00:17:40] I'm not unfamiliar with a BRZ so it'll be okay. And you actually know where reverse is now? Yes I do

[00:17:48] I know that was that was interesting. Yeah because I completely forgot that I might need to tell

[00:17:54] you that because my my shift knob doesn't have anything on it. Yeah neither does mine but mine is you

[00:18:02] know over and to the right and yours was not I was like putting it in sixth gear and I'm like

[00:18:08] where is reverse on this thing. Yeah because when I ordered my shift knob I thought do I really need

[00:18:17] the shift pattern on there? I know where all the gears are well um I guess if somebody else is

[00:18:22] going to drive my car they can ask if they think they're gonna have to back up which is what I had

[00:18:27] to do. I rolled the window down like hey where's reverse on this thing? I need to go backwards.

[00:18:34] Yeah that was a highlight of the trip definitely. That was fun it was fun though.

[00:18:42] So something else that's not too outdated but you are part of the Max Tracks micro crew

[00:18:53] so how did you find out about that and what number are what member number are you?

[00:19:00] I found out about them on Instagram and I thought oh that's kind of pretty cool and that goes along

[00:19:05] with my being weird and funny and in touch with my inner child. I kind of scrolled back through

[00:19:12] the pages suppose. I thought there's like actual like normal cars you don't have to be like a big

[00:19:19] lifted four-wheel drive off-road type vehicle. So I sent Phil a picture and after I had got my little

[00:19:28] Max Tracks micro boards and I am member number 382 and the Sam Barr is member number 382 and a half.

[00:19:38] Oh nice that's cool. And I got my member number the day

[00:19:47] over the day before his episode went live so I am the first BRZ and I think I might still be

[00:19:57] the only BRZ so far. Nice only Sam Barr? Hopefully because I'm going to uh I don't know I haven't

[00:20:07] scrolled back through the post to see if there's any more K-trucks of any variety but I might be

[00:20:13] the first and only Sam Barr also. Hey that's cool. Yeah very unique yeah you bring something different

[00:20:22] to the game. Yeah I do. Have you had to use your micro tracks yet? If you come across any big

[00:20:28] cracks in the road? I've been prepared because there's a spot in my yard. I do not have

[00:20:37] I don't have a real driveway and I don't have a pay or gravel parking spot. I just park in my

[00:20:44] grass and there's a spot in my yard that gets a puddle every time it rains and I keep thinking

[00:20:50] I really need to go out there and make an Instagram reel about using my Max Tracks and driving through

[00:20:56] this puddle and then I always forget and I have to go to work or whatever so I might do that on purpose

[00:21:04] soon. Yeah just think I'll get a bucket of water in for it in there or something. Yeah yeah.

[00:21:11] Yeah they're fun I mean it's he you know you listen to his episode and he said

[00:21:17] something completely stupid just turned into this big thing you know those supposed to be a joke

[00:21:22] and now here we are over 400 members he wasn't at 400 yet when I had a podcast but now it's like

[00:21:28] you just keep seeing him pop up more and more. Yes and more and more Subaru's.

[00:21:34] Yes and that's the exciting part. Right after his episode aired it was like the first 10 or 20

[00:21:41] that were all Subaru's of some variety I don't know like this is so great. Oh yeah I know it's

[00:21:47] like it's nice to see more and more Subaru's it's like oh there it is another Subaru we can deal

[00:21:53] with that. Yeah yeah thank you Phil for bringing Max Tracks micro crew to the world.

[00:22:02] Yes so I know you drove quite a bit for 48 hours of tri-state this year and I know you didn't do

[00:22:10] the entire trip with everybody but is that the furthest distance you've driven in UBRZ?

[00:22:18] Yes and actually that was my first big road trip and I'm very surprised at how comfortable

[00:22:25] that car is on trips. I'm used to driving two or three hours and I have to get out and everything

[00:22:33] is all creaky and I feel like I'm cramped up and it's just an amazing car. Yeah and I mean I

[00:22:42] obviously wasn't driving it but in the passenger seat I don't remember being uncomfortable in it.

[00:22:47] I mean is you know it was different for me being like kind of I guess I don't know like

[00:22:56] held it into the seat more than like my car and you know it was like a little smaller but I mean

[00:23:03] I wasn't uncomfortable. Right right I do like the bucketness of the seats rather than

[00:23:11] like a truck style more benchy seat. I like feeling cradled. Yes that's the word I was looking for

[00:23:19] cradled thank you. I felt more I mean yeah could you deal with my car it's you know it's not

[00:23:28] like that but your car because of the the style and it's you know it's designed to be more

[00:23:34] like a race type style of seating and just cockpit and everything and so that's that's what it

[00:23:41] felt like. It was nice. Well thanks I'm glad you were comfortable over there. You're welcome

[00:23:46] I was. Do you have any road trip any other road trips planned with your BRZ? Not at the present time.

[00:23:56] I would like to go to box-trefest but I'm not sure I don't know whether I'm going to be able to work

[00:24:04] that out or not mainly because it'll be in our busy season at work. How far is box-trefest?

[00:24:13] It's like I think it's like 10 hours which is not bad because I know well when when I left

[00:24:21] Indianapolis to come back after the first half of the 48 hours trip I came through West Virginia

[00:24:29] and because I had my daughter with me and then I had to meet my husband and she went with him

[00:24:35] to where they live and then I continued back on in North Carolina. I did that in one day and that was

[00:24:40] like 16 hours and I didn't die. Well that's good you're still you're here on the podcast obviously.

[00:24:48] Yeah yeah my original plan was I was going to stop in Mount Arian shop for a mini truck but the

[00:24:54] weather forecast was like they were expecting an ice storm or something and I thought

[00:24:59] nah I think I'm just going to go home and I'll do this all online and buy phone. Yeah I did

[00:25:04] all that shopping on the phone and on the internet. So how many miles do you have on your BRZ now?

[00:25:13] 36,000. How long have you had? And I've picked it up December 5th 2022.

[00:25:21] Okay that's pretty good. I mean I do have a decent commute to work and it is my daily so

[00:25:29] yeah I mean I have 99,000 miles on mine and I've only had it for a little over three years or

[00:25:37] right at I think a little over three years like three and a half maybe and

[00:25:42] and it's but I drive a lot. It is my only car too and for I was driving my son back and forth

[00:25:50] to school a lot and I drove to Colorado, drove to Arkansas several times, drove up to Madison

[00:25:57] Wisconsin, Dallas a bunch of times and just all around Houston I drive a lot but it's fun.

[00:26:05] That's what it's for. Yeah yeah. I was looking at your Instagram page and I saw that I saw one photo

[00:26:14] with a set of wheels, one set of wheels and another photo with a different set of wheels. Do you have

[00:26:19] like two sets of wheels that you rotate through or did you start off with a set and then you got

[00:26:24] another set? What's going on there Missy? Okay I had six months between the time that I ordered the

[00:26:32] car and when I picked it up to plan all of my mods and the original plan was I was going to buy

[00:26:38] the silver set of wheels and then I was just going to run this the stock wheels with snow tires

[00:26:45] in the winter on the 48 hours trips and if I had to go to West Virginia in the winter or whatever.

[00:26:51] Well it was I don't know maybe the end of October last year and method was having a sale

[00:27:04] and they make the MR502s to fit my car and they're so pretty. They were just calling your name.

[00:27:14] Titanium would look so so sick on my car. So those are my winter that's my winter setup. So I

[00:27:23] actually have three sets of wheels and tires. I have the stocks with the what came on the car which are

[00:27:31] all season. All season, summer other. No actually there's summer tires and then I have the Cosmese

[00:27:39] XT206Rs with Nokia 1 all seasons because where I live we have

[00:27:50] a tendency to have days where the temperature fluctuates. It can be in the 40s in the morning and then

[00:27:55] it can be 80 degrees by the afternoon and summer tires just don't do well under 50 degrees at all.

[00:28:02] Gotcha. And because I have such a commute and there are drive pass places where like an

[00:28:11] otter could run out in the road, a bear, a deer, raccoons, possums, large birds.

[00:28:21] Now I'm not going to talk about that. We won't discuss that. All kinds of wildlife.

[00:28:26] Yeah. Yeah. So I have to have some have a tire that I'm confident is going to keep me on the road

[00:28:34] and not make me end up in the ditch. Yeah, that's important because that's my baby.

[00:28:41] And there I don't even remember what the snow tires are. I just told the shop that does

[00:28:48] they do my world changes and I'm like oh by the way you guys are going to get it

[00:28:53] get it set of wheels and you're going to have to order tires. And I tell them when I want

[00:28:58] and they order them and mount them and then they stick them on the car and I'm like okay these are

[00:29:02] fine. So I don't even remember what the snow tires are but they're nice. They're

[00:29:08] they did very well so I'm happy. Yeah, I mean that's good. I know it's it's funny because

[00:29:15] I know I've talked to people that live in much colder climates and they're like oh it's time

[00:29:20] to put my snow tires on and then they're like the end of the winter season it's time to put my

[00:29:25] other tires back on. It's like here in Houston we just run the same tires all year long we don't

[00:29:30] want to change them out. Yeah, if I do not have to go anywhere like if I didn't have to go past say

[00:29:39] Raleigh North Carolina I could run the Cosmese 12 months out of the year on those all seasons and

[00:29:46] I just find. But yeah the winter tires definitely come in handy when you have winter conditions

[00:29:53] that's why they make winter tires I'm guessing. Yeah, if I if I have to go somewhere where there's

[00:29:58] going to be a possibility of winter conditions I want to be prepared. Yeah because all season tires

[00:30:04] are not winter tires at all. So what else have you done to your BRZ kind of you've got three sets of

[00:30:11] wheels one of them being the OEM and then you've got some decals as well but what else have

[00:30:18] you done to your BRZ? Exhaust and that really is the only like other mod I guess while I change

[00:30:27] to shift knob in the e-brake handle and the drift button but I have the Borla S type catback exhaust

[00:30:36] that was designed for the second gen BRZ and 8.6 and that was another thing that I researched and

[00:30:44] I imagine that I probably spent about 30 hours listening to YouTube videos of different exhaust

[00:30:52] trying to decide what to buy, what to buy, what to buy and I decided on that one and it's perfect

[00:31:00] it's exactly the sound that I wanted for my car. Yeah, it does sound really good and you hear

[00:31:06] these cars that have like a very tin cany sound and it just does not sound good and your car has

[00:31:13] like a very nice rumble to it and it sounds it sounds like exactly what your car needs so good job.

[00:31:23] Well thank you, thank you. I wanted deep and throaty once it's warmed up it's very quiet

[00:31:29] and it's loud without being obnoxious and it doesn't scream at you there's no drone inside

[00:31:36] and it's not it isn't raspy and my son's like it too so yeah and you got to oh yeah

[00:31:44] you gotta please the family yeah and you got to hear it when I drove it around

[00:31:49] yeah yeah which but I don't get to do I mean that's the first time I'd ever heard it

[00:31:56] standing right next to the car because the only other times I've heard it is when the

[00:32:02] guy that does oil changes at the shop where I go backs it out of the service bay and I'm inside

[00:32:08] paying so I don't really you know yeah so you had a good experience that's good yeah yeah I did

[00:32:16] all right so do you have any plans for any other mods or are you just kind of satisfied with

[00:32:23] what you're at now? I'm happy eventually I might get lower in springs and if in the unlikely

[00:32:33] event I ever decide to change delivery I would I would get arrow I would get a lip and side skirts

[00:32:42] and a rear splitter and the biggest most obnoxious wing I could possibly purchase

[00:32:49] and I would have the wildest I always joke around and say if you ever seen that Japanese

[00:32:57] woodcut the great wave I have not it's if you google it I'm sure it'd be like the first image

[00:33:06] that comes up but I would love to have my car wrapped in that art print and just have all of

[00:33:14] this change of stuff yeah I see it now and just it just really be you know the whole not a huge

[00:33:23] chin spoiler or like big huge exhaust tips or anything like that but just the whole like a kind

[00:33:28] of racer aesthetic and just be really over the top and then go to Walmart and get out and I'll be

[00:33:34] this you know the age that I am which is not 25 driving this seemingly younger person looking car

[00:33:45] exactly this extremely modified little Japanese sports car yeah you're having fun with it though

[00:33:54] I am I am it's immensely fun yeah that's that's definitely the point of getting some of these cars

[00:34:01] you know sometimes there's a lot of people that buy these cars and other cars too but I mean

[00:34:06] especially people that have had on the podcast where they buy a Subaru with having no knowledge

[00:34:15] of mods having no knowledge of the community and somehow or other they find out about it and then

[00:34:21] next thing you know their car is very very far from stock and they're very happy and pleased

[00:34:29] with the journey and usually even if it looks out out landish and just with all kinds of stuff

[00:34:37] that's they're not still not done but you know it's all about just building it up the way that

[00:34:43] you want to build it and having fun with it and getting out and enjoying it and that's that's

[00:34:47] the whole purpose of it all oh yeah yeah and I can I can honestly say that I don't think that there is

[00:34:54] any Subaru of any any model Subaru that I've seen on Instagram there are none of them that I dislike

[00:35:03] yeah some of them are not my style but I still like them because they're purposeful you know you

[00:35:11] can tell that the person did put some thought into what they did now there are a lot of big RZs

[00:35:18] 8.6s that I love that I drool over and like if I wasn't having so much fun with mine maybe I would

[00:35:26] change mine to look more like theirs but then again it wouldn't then it wouldn't be mine it would

[00:35:31] be a copy of theirs and that wouldn't be any fun so yeah so speaking of your livery where did you come

[00:35:36] up with the mock five speed racer theme well I'm the age I am I'm the age I am and I probably

[00:35:47] one of your older guests but I when I was in grade school I would come home every afternoon and I

[00:35:53] would watch that that an ultra man oh yeah and the partridge family and several other you know

[00:36:00] yeah 1970s stuff and I have always been obsessed with you know sleek sports cars I made my parents take

[00:36:11] me to a Corvette show at a Chevy dealership when I was in the sixth grade please please take me

[00:36:19] and I did die with six I mean the sixth grade I was 10 and I'm walking around I'm drooling over all

[00:36:25] these Corvettes because I love them when I decided I was going to get a BRZ I thought oh wait a minute

[00:36:32] I bet that I could put livery on it make it look like a mock five you did and it looks good

[00:36:39] yeah thank you um I actually have had a couple of people come up to me at the gas station and want to

[00:36:44] take pictures of it that's awesome does it uh it just it tickles me to no end and it's not

[00:36:54] younger people don't really get it and I'm sure that it you know if I had like initial D stuff

[00:37:03] you know if I had a red suns or a night kids decal or something on it they would they'd be like oh yeah

[00:37:09] initially but that's not my that's not my generation my generation is the speed racer generation

[00:37:17] and that generation of people at carmeneats instead of for like this is so cool so I like being one

[00:37:24] of the cool kids yeah it's I mean it's I it's it's cool I like it it was nice seeing it in person

[00:37:32] and I grew up watching speed racer too so it uh you know it hits home with me too but are you

[00:37:39] I have to ask are you able to launch it like the mock five you know like you can jump over a big

[00:37:45] gap in the road or something oh I wish I could but no sadly no it doesn't have any of those none of

[00:37:53] those mods yeah and then the little thing that he would launch out of the hood to go like look ahead

[00:37:59] for him the little yeah the little hummingbird yeah drone thing yeah and then the saw blades that

[00:38:06] came out the front jump jacks and I actually did find a place that makes wheels that look

[00:38:12] very very similar to what we're on the car in the animated series but they're like $1,100 a piece

[00:38:21] so no yeah you know with drones now you actually could technically like launch something up out of

[00:38:31] the hood and have it fly off you know I could I could yeah that's taken a little far though

[00:38:43] yeah but I'm just saying it's a possibility with drones these days that you could almost replicate

[00:38:49] that true but I would I couldn't ever do it at home because I live under restricted airspace

[00:38:55] or no drones allowed so you have to try somewhere else in there yeah but I have the marines

[00:39:02] that protect me in the air if something ever you know if anything ever goes down I'm safe here

[00:39:06] well there you go that's good what would you say about your BRZ brings you the most joy

[00:39:13] just the whole general appearance I mean even completely stocked the day I'd picked

[00:39:19] around from the dealership I just I mean she's just so beautiful and I just love looking at her

[00:39:25] yeah well I would hope so yeah she looks good and what would you say about your BRZ best matches

[00:39:32] your personality she's unique because I like to think of myself as unique I'm not like anybody else

[00:39:42] you know I'm just not and I didn't really set out to be weird or odd or anything I'm just you

[00:39:49] know I'm just who I am and I'm not like anybody else just different yeah different is good

[00:39:57] it was fun hanging out with you it was nice to meet you oh thanks it was fun hanging out with

[00:40:01] you too yeah yeah I mean it was fun getting to ride with you also and you know you only have a

[00:40:07] two-seater but you didn't have anybody else in your city either so that worked out well too because a lot

[00:40:12] of people had a passenger and I'm glad that you had the room because it was fun to ride in your car

[00:40:18] and get that experience oh thanks even though I'm I hate driving a traffic next time you just let me drive

[00:40:27] okay yeah I that's one area in which I need a serious driver mod is I've just gotta go somewhere

[00:40:34] and find traffic and just learn to be comfortable and you know being close to other cars and

[00:40:40] everything because my commute is all two lane roads and it's wide open and it's just not it's

[00:40:46] not traffic even when there's traffic there's no traffic the whole county that I live in only has

[00:40:53] 32,000 people in the off season and maybe 80,000 during the summer so it's just not it's not

[00:41:01] populated at all yeah we did go through a lot of traffic though yeah we did honestly I don't

[00:41:07] ever want to drive a new jersey ever again driver mod or no driver mod I just that was not enjoyable

[00:41:16] at all well and then not knowing where you're going also and having to either follow somebody else

[00:41:22] or rely on the radio communications and then you know there were some like last minute wait well

[00:41:30] actually we need to turn here and you know it's it's hardest driving anywhere when you don't know

[00:41:36] where you're going and then you add in a bunch of traffic to it that can make the even more nerve

[00:41:40] wrecking but you did a good job well thank you thank you and and we made it through and I didn't

[00:41:47] hit anything or anybody and nobody hit me so it's all good yeah yeah yeah yep one point for me yeah

[00:41:57] well if you could describe your BRZ in one word what would it be I have to say beautiful

[00:42:05] because whenever I message my son with some question or something about my car

[00:42:11] I always call either I call her by her name or I'll say my tiny beautiful car

[00:42:17] or my tiny beautiful race car and all caps and actually really she's really not that tiny

[00:42:24] but beautiful yeah yeah I mean that's a common theme it seems like she is beautiful too

[00:42:31] oh thank you yeah she's the prettiest car I've ever owned I've had some good looking cars but

[00:42:37] she's just some special she is yeah yeah and thank you again for trusting me to drive it even though

[00:42:44] it wasn't very far but it was fun it was just nice to give you confidence that your stuff was still

[00:42:52] at the hotel so you would bring her back oh of course yeah I wasn't going anywhere

[00:42:59] so that was fun so when did you so you said something about trying to stop on the way home

[00:43:07] to buy a truck but then you ended up doing it all online but when did you decide to purchase a

[00:43:14] sand bar and where did you purchase it from and like what was that whole process from

[00:43:21] searching for it or ordering it to getting it well I work with this girl her name is Ali

[00:43:30] hi Ali because she's going to listen to this and she and I have been talking about she wants

[00:43:36] a mini truck and I said you know I think I would like to have a mini truck too and I started

[00:43:41] researching and I thought man that'd be really handy because they're like they're small but they're

[00:43:47] street legal and I we don't have trash pick up where I live you have to take your trash yourself

[00:43:55] to the dumpster site and unload it so I have been taking my trash in my beautiful tiny race car

[00:44:03] and I thought I just got to do something I have a trailer that goes behind my lawn tractor but

[00:44:08] it's really slow and that's just not that's not workable so I thought if I got a mini truck

[00:44:17] I could drive it to work if the roads flood because they're higher up off the ground than the BRZ

[00:44:24] so I really started researching and I thought well if I'm going to buy one of my small buy a Subaru

[00:44:30] what turns out there's this mini truck dealer in Mount Erie North Carolina called

[00:44:34] Mayberry Mini Trucks and those people are the nicest people and they have this website and what I did

[00:44:40] is I went online and I made a list of all the ones that I thought were suitable and then I started

[00:44:45] narrowing down the list this one has too many miles this one is over my budget this one has a

[00:44:53] dent that does looks like it would require me to pay somebody to fix it this one has got you know

[00:44:59] this one one of them had a crane well I don't need a crane you can pick up your garbage with it

[00:45:07] so I narrowed it down and picked one out and called them and said what's the process and I made

[00:45:14] a deposit and then when the owner does a YouTube video of your particular truck once you put a deposit

[00:45:24] and they go around with their camera and show like the underside so you can kind of video inspect

[00:45:31] everything and then they go out on the road and drive up and down the road so you can see that all

[00:45:36] the gears shift and it's you know it doesn't sound like it's going to fall apart

[00:45:42] and then you they said you all the paperwork that you sign and scan and send back and you

[00:45:48] wired them the money and in this case I rented well I reserved a car hauler trailer my husband

[00:45:58] came from West Virginia stopped in Mount Arian picked up the car hauler went to the mini truck lot

[00:46:04] picked up my truck and brought it to me so he delivered it they do deliver but I was I was able

[00:46:12] to save save a pretty good chunk of money but I haven't been bring it to me yeah so yeah but it

[00:46:18] was it was pretty seamless I know people that have imported them themselves

[00:46:24] but there's just you just really don't know what you're gonna get because a lot of people at

[00:46:29] those Japanese auction houses don't speak English and it's hard to negotiate and you really

[00:46:34] what you think you're buying might not be what gets off the boat at the port and then you're stuck

[00:46:41] you know yeah you might think you're buying X and you end up with Y and and I thought no

[00:46:47] I really need one that's already here already in North Carolina and already has a title so

[00:46:53] the whole process was very seamless and I just went to the DMV and said hey here's the title I need

[00:46:58] to change to my name and here's money and so now I can just drive it nice and how long was the

[00:47:05] process from the time that you started doing the research to the time that you actually had it

[00:47:11] delivered uh I started looking into them oh probably I guess I started my research probably in November

[00:47:24] of last year and I made a decision on which one I wanted at the end of January and it was in my

[00:47:34] yard on the 20th February so and from the time I decided to purchase one particular truck until

[00:47:43] I got the video and made the wire transfer to pay for it was maybe nine days okay so yeah not bad

[00:47:52] and so how was it when you first got in it and you know went to go drive it

[00:48:00] was that like because you're sitting on the other side you're shifting with your left hand I know

[00:48:05] that like the pedals are still on the same the same side you've got the gas on the right and clutch

[00:48:10] on the left but so what was right how did it and then the gear still switched the same correct

[00:48:17] in the same pattern yeah the shift pattern is exactly the same so where fifth gear if it was a

[00:48:24] left ten drive would be towards the passenger the passenger side it's still it's still all the way

[00:48:32] over to the right and forward so you're just doing with your other hand so you just that muscle

[00:48:38] memory just transfers to the other arm yeah yeah and it's not my husband was able to drive it

[00:48:45] around the yard like keep driving it all his life it's not it wasn't a huge huge enormous adjustment

[00:48:55] it does run like it idols faster than my BRZ which I'm not used to and it doesn't have a

[00:49:02] tackometer so I kind of have to like this sound like it's really really whining and I need to

[00:49:08] shift it so that's one of the things that I'm going to do is I'm going to get a tackometer

[00:49:15] so I can because I do mainly shift by sound and not by speed and I have a little

[00:49:25] I have a posted note stuck to the dash that translates kilometers per hour to miles per hour

[00:49:32] oh yeah the only one I know right after all the top of my head is 50 miles an hour is 80

[00:49:39] and 55 is 88 but the rest of them the rest of the speed limits between here and town

[00:49:45] I don't have it memorized yet so I just have a little change.

[00:49:51] Did you know you were going 80 no I didn't 80 what

[00:49:56] a lot of people get a replacement thing that goes behind their speedometer needle to convert it

[00:50:05] to miles per hour but I'm I'm just going to figure out where all the speeds are and just leave

[00:50:11] mine the same I just I think it's neat and just get a sharpie and ride on there like when you're

[00:50:18] going 30 or get like a do like calculations on that hour. Yeah there 35 45 50 sounds

[00:50:28] like it's fun. It is fun it's super fun so now even taking the trash out is fun because I'm

[00:50:34] taking the trash out I've gone to the dollar store drove it to work Sunday driving home was a

[00:50:41] little adventure because I don't have new LED headlight bulbs yet and the OEM headlights are

[00:50:47] are these dim little yellow. Oh yeah not good. I can't hardly see because my low beams on my BRZ

[00:50:59] are better than the high beams in the stem bar. Oh jeer yeah so that would be important either

[00:51:05] that or just try not to drive at night for a while until you get the new headlight. Yeah I'm

[00:51:11] stalking the website and they're still out of stock and back ordered so but the instant that

[00:51:16] they're available I'm gonna say purchase now. Yeah send me these and that one I have all of the

[00:51:23] stuff that gets done to the BRZ I have a shop do it but the sam bar I'm going to attempt to

[00:51:33] do all of the work on it myself hopefully that will never have to go to the shop if it's something

[00:51:40] requires of inside I can just you know tote whatever part it is in the shed or

[00:51:47] I have a camper that I don't live in anymore and that's gonna be my paint booth. Oh nice yeah

[00:51:54] when you can do stuff yourself it's just I think it's more satisfying because then you can

[00:51:58] look over at it and go hey that looks really good and I did that. Yeah yeah yeah right now my

[00:52:06] the headache rack to my sam bar is in my living room. The headache rack? Because it is in the

[00:52:12] process of being refinished and of course I have parts of it sanded down to bare metal so it can't

[00:52:18] be outside. Oh yeah yeah. So it just it just lives in my living room until I get it finished and

[00:52:24] I've got to actually go to the parts store and get primer and then decide exactly what color

[00:52:29] I'm gonna paint it because the color scheme is still up in the air I can't make up my mind but

[00:52:35] it may come to you. Because yeah I want to do I want to do something that's Subaru-ish

[00:52:42] but I don't know world rally blue and and Subaru yellow. Yeah I like it but I'm not in love with it

[00:52:52] sorry now. And maybe not for a sam bar so do you have well what year is it first of all?

[00:52:59] It's a 1994. Okay and 30 years old. Yeah oh yeah it is so do you have any plans for mods other

[00:53:10] than I mean I just talked about putting the roof rack on and then you're gonna change out the lights

[00:53:15] but are you gonna do anything else with it or do you even like know what you can do with it?

[00:53:21] I do want to get bigger wheels because Subaru's the Subaru K-trucks don't take very well to being

[00:53:29] lifted because they have independent rear suspension and they don't like to change their geometry

[00:53:34] so if I just the OEM wheels are 12s so if I go to 13s I'll have another almost an inch of ground

[00:53:45] clearance and I can get a slightly more meaty tire and I think it'll ride a little bit better

[00:53:50] too because the suspension is extremely harsh that probably I don't know um funny I was just

[00:54:00] talking well not talking we were messaging in the family group chat this morning and I said

[00:54:06] something about thinking about putting ditch lights on the ears on the headache rack for fog lights

[00:54:12] but there is a place in the bumper that you can cut out for fog lights so I'm gonna do some kind of

[00:54:16] fog lights at some point and probably get some kind of a marine a dock box or uh

[00:54:24] fisherman's toolbox or something to put in the bed to carry stuff in and a hitch

[00:54:31] huh I don't know and then just pretty everything up and just make sure it's as mechanically sound as

[00:54:36] possible yeah that's good I did at one point have a have a car that was carburetored and I worked

[00:54:44] on it myself so I'm sure I'll remember how once I get into it yeah and there's always the

[00:54:50] University of YouTube yeah very true very true do you follow Brian libkey I do okay yeah because

[00:54:59] he's got he's got one that he's done some stuff too yeah yeah sushi yes yeah do you have a name for

[00:55:06] years I do her name is oba chan oh yeah what does that mean it means it means grandmother oh okay

[00:55:16] nice that's a good name though my b r z and the sam bar were built in the same complex of factories

[00:55:24] different buildings and 30 years apart but I figured that the sam bar is kind of like the grandmother

[00:55:31] to my b r z yeah I can see that that's good I know that we recorded some while we were out on the

[00:55:38] road about 48 hours of tri state but like how did you end up finding out about it I've probably

[00:55:45] known about it for years because I have a family member who's on the staff but two years ago

[00:55:57] my youngest son and his fiancee went and forget why well I didn't have a Subaru at that time so I

[00:56:05] didn't go then I thought oh when I have a b r z I will I will go and then I had only had it for like

[00:56:13] three weeks so I thought so I rode with my youngest son in 23 and then decided yeah I think this

[00:56:23] is doable I think I could probably bring a b r z on this trip by its no tires and but I do I do plan to

[00:56:31] go for as many years as they'll have me I'm not that fundraiser in the world but it is it is nice

[00:56:39] because now I know people and I can say hey I remember seeing you from a couple years ago or whatever

[00:56:44] and you know we always do fun stuff and I mean for Mont sports car that's a once in a lifetime thing

[00:56:52] yeah I know I they were trying to get me to come out to that one I just couldn't make it happen

[00:56:58] but you know I'm not unhappy that I went to SIA because that was a really cool experience oh yeah

[00:57:05] yeah I am thrilled to have been able to do that too because my middle son that has the other b r z

[00:57:14] they also well he had a cross track before and now he and his fiance have an outback and it's nice

[00:57:23] to see you know I mean I know people that have cars that were built of that factory so

[00:57:27] in there two russes it's all family yeah no it's uh it was it was such a fun experience and

[00:57:34] the complex is huge just seeing all of the infrastructure that goes on in there was really

[00:57:40] really cool all the conveyor belts and the different parts and the robots do in the welding I mean

[00:57:46] just the whole thing was really nice and uh for anybody listening to this episode now if you have

[00:57:52] a chance to go to SII I highly recommend it yes I second that yes thank you if they'll have you

[00:58:01] back you'll be back yep that's good well here's a little segment that is the get to know the

[00:58:09] person behind the account but who is Missy ah well the whole time we've been talking I thought

[00:58:17] should I tell exactly how old I am I'm 60 I have I have 10 grandchildren and I hope you know I just

[00:58:27] I'm finally the person I am and I'm very proud to be the person I am and I'm not

[00:58:32] I'm not some old lady I'm I'm a fun girl I live in coastal North Carolina where we have hurricanes

[00:58:39] and mosquitoes that are so large they have to file flight plans oh yeah yeah but it's just

[00:58:48] it's beautiful um yeah I've seen some of your photos it looks nice

[00:58:54] it's so pretty here I am a professional cook I have been a professional cook since I was 19 years old

[00:59:03] wow I'm an army veteran what else I used to be a competitive Irish step dancer

[00:59:13] oh really oh yeah interesting yeah I've done some things that sounds fun

[00:59:19] um it was a lot of fun my kids still like can you and I'm like no not anymore because I just

[00:59:27] I stand up all day at work and I'm not dancing anymore but I'd dance in my head I don't know

[00:59:33] I'm just interesting well you were it was fun hanging out with you like I said I mean you

[00:59:38] definitely you don't act 60 you know I mean I think a lot of us are

[00:59:44] definitely acting and you know playing out a much younger age just because we like to have fun

[00:59:50] and be goofy and silly and it's always good to be a kid at heart and

[00:59:56] seems like is the older you get the less you care about what other people think too you know

[01:00:01] we just like live your life and have fun and enjoy it and enjoy spending time with other people

[01:00:07] with family and just do what you enjoy and do what you want to do oh for sure I work with

[01:00:16] I work with these young boys who are I call my work sons and they all tell me that I am the most

[01:00:27] 17 year old six year old well I'm sure that's fun for them too then because they're not like

[01:00:35] you know feeling like they're just working with somebody that's not going to be relating to them

[01:00:40] or something so obviously they see something in you that they can relate to yeah yeah and half

[01:00:48] I'm calling mom and it's just it's really nice because I've worked places where the people I

[01:00:57] work with we didn't have a connection at all and the people that I work with now we are truly

[01:01:03] it's a cliche to say that you know your work crew is like your family but we really are like

[01:01:10] a family and and we joke around and everything we still get to job done and and I think we do okay

[01:01:17] but I do like where I work that's good that's really important too and yeah it's

[01:01:24] because a lot of times people don't like where they work and you know you get kind of stuck in a job

[01:01:30] and feel like you don't have any other options or anything else you can do so if you can enjoy

[01:01:34] your job that's really good and it helps with your quality of life for sure yep piece of advice

[01:01:41] it's easier to find a job if you have a job so if you don't like your job look for another job

[01:01:47] while you still have the job you don't like yes very true because you can still be making money

[01:01:52] while you're looking at the looking for another job right exactly yes so what is a favorite memory

[01:02:00] from your childhood besides the Corvette show from my little young childhood I would have to say

[01:02:10] watching motorsports on TV IndyCar and F1 when I was growing up I lived in Indianapolis and

[01:02:21] you know all the all the IndyCar drivers and the F1 drivers Jackie Stewart oh I just thought

[01:02:26] Jackie Stewart hung the moon I thought he was so wonderful and and Mario and Dready I idolized

[01:02:36] Mario and Dready I thought he was you know because he drove IndyCar and he drove F1 and in 2016 I

[01:02:44] actually got to meet him and got his autograph oh nice which was which was thrilling and there's

[01:02:51] actually there's video of it somewhere but we were my husband I went to the Indy 500 for the

[01:02:58] 100th race and we were walking through the garage area and here comes Mario and Dready on a

[01:03:05] golf cart and I elbowed my elbow my husband I said bail this and I go running across with my I

[01:03:13] always when I go to something that I'm there might be autographs I carry a white t-shirt and a sharpy

[01:03:19] and I go running across with the shirt and the sharpy will you sign this for me excuse excuse me

[01:03:27] Mr. and Dready because I would never presume to call him Mario and and I have I have a t-shirt

[01:03:35] that's covered in autographs of IndyCar drivers oh nice that's really cool yeah yeah so we yeah

[01:03:44] there's some awesome people reborn in Indianapolis I wasn't I was born in Terre Hope and then when

[01:03:50] I was about I think eight months old my parents moved to Indianapolis and we lived there until I was

[01:03:55] seven okay yeah gotcha but I did not get to go see the Indy 500 in person until 2010

[01:04:04] hey but you did go see it that's the important part but but I have I have been I've been four times

[01:04:11] oh that's cool yeah well we know what you do for a living is would you say that that is your dream job

[01:04:20] it is I'm very lucky that I picked a job in the military that easily translated into something I

[01:04:28] could do in the civilian world and I don't I don't really want to do anything else I can do other

[01:04:36] things than I have had other jobs but I keep coming back to kitchens and just just what I do

[01:04:42] that's good that's important too besides getting out in your BRZ and now your sand bar what other hobbies

[01:04:50] do you have I like to go saltwater fishing I have a kayak and I pittle around in the bay behind my

[01:04:58] house on that and I go gather muscles and stuff like that I knit I like to go bird watching

[01:05:07] waterfall hunting deer hunting turkey hunting anything that involves being outside and enjoying nature

[01:05:15] if I had a cross-trick or an outback that thing would have like a five inch lift on it

[01:05:20] well it sounds like that's what you need to get next maybe

[01:05:25] I already had to think really really hard to be able to justify the sand bar and I'm not sure

[01:05:31] I can justify yet another Subaru yeah you could just go take a ride with somebody probably you know

[01:05:37] let them take you out yeah I need to I need to hook up with what is who's the guy

[01:05:44] there was a guy that lives around Charlotte and he was on and see I listen to I have listened now

[01:05:51] to all but I think two episodes and I don't remember the number of this guy but he's

[01:05:58] lives somewhere near Charlotte and he goes with a bunch of people in the Uwari

[01:06:06] National Forest or National Park or State whatever yeah I don't remember either I've had too many

[01:06:13] people that's not that's not unreachably far away because tell the dragon it's like 10

[01:06:22] hours because North Carolina is a very wide state from east to west and I am clear as far east as

[01:06:29] you can get without being in the Atlantic Ocean just about okay got you and tell the dragon is

[01:06:36] clear as far as west you can be without being in Tennessee and actually the end of tell the dragon

[01:06:41] is in Tennessee so so is that something you think you might want to try to do with your BRZ oh definitely

[01:06:48] that and there's a road in Virginia that I know exactly where that one is it's called back to the dragon

[01:06:54] and it is doesn't have as many curves but it's longer it's like 30 31 miles and it's right off the

[01:07:03] interstate on the way from where I live to where my husband lives so that's that's very doable yeah

[01:07:12] that'll be fun there's some roads out here on the way to Austin that are pretty curvy and a lot of

[01:07:19] fun to drive and I want to go back and do that I'm just imagining curves in Texas yeah there are curves

[01:07:30] in Texas but the only part of Texas I saw was the flat part Amarillo which top all Dallas you make

[01:07:38] a fun of my state being flat we do too no yeah it's uh I tell people yeah we have hills they're

[01:07:48] called overpasses out west though like out in Austin it's it gets hilly out there so it's it's nice

[01:07:56] and fun oh okay see that's a part of Texas that I've never been to yeah we have hills to they're

[01:08:04] called high level bridges that's what they're doing to replace all the drop bridges they're taking

[01:08:09] the drop bridges out in there these bridges will fill them so so the boats the tall boats can get under

[01:08:15] yeah without having to stop traffic right right so what is something that makes you want to get out of bed

[01:08:21] every day seeing the sunrise because I can sit on my couch and I can look out my patio door and I

[01:08:27] can see the sun come up every morning and it's just you know it's the same but it's different every day

[01:08:33] depends on you know what's if there's a force fire or control burn or if there's clouds or no clouds

[01:08:40] or if there's a storm coming or a storm over there yeah it's it's different every morning and I never

[01:08:46] get tired of watching the sun come up yeah I haven't done that in a long time I mean like I've

[01:08:51] been awake when the sun comes up but I haven't actually watched it in a really long time and I

[01:08:57] haven't watched the sunset in a while either yeah I can't really see this sunset from my yard very

[01:09:04] well I actually have to either walk across the road to the other boat dock or drive down to the

[01:09:10] fairy landing and most of the time it's dinner time and I'm like man I'll just go another time yeah

[01:09:17] Sun sunrise is good enough yeah yeah what is something that makes you want to stay in bed

[01:09:23] if my floors are cold

[01:09:29] yeah I've been getting a lot of if it's cold answers I don't want to get up yeah yeah I'm just

[01:09:37] anymore that's my feet are really about the only part of me this old I just still want my feet

[01:09:44] to be cold I like to have warm feet well then we're slippers you have nice fancy well I do have

[01:09:50] slippers but in order to here's the thing I live in an RV and and they're very space premium so I don't

[01:10:03] get up on the side of the bed like most people I have to crawl off the end oh yeah

[01:10:09] and then I have to figure out where did I put my slippers when I took them off when I got in the bed

[01:10:15] and find them and then put them on and if I left them too far from the heat then they're cold on

[01:10:21] the inside so then I'm upset about that and sometimes I have been known to actually put a pair of socks

[01:10:27] on the bedside table and put those on before I get up so then I don't have my feet aren't too cold

[01:10:35] what would be your best bit of advice to give to someone about anything

[01:10:41] do the thing do the thing by the car take the class try the hobby take the pictures just do the thing

[01:10:51] don't worry about whatever people think you only have one life do it live it and then write

[01:11:00] write the thing down keep a journal you know I did this and it was fun or I did this and I hated it

[01:11:07] and I'm never gonna do it again I went to you know I went to play bingo and I hate bingo so then

[01:11:15] the next time I'm gonna go and try this pottery class or whatever just do the things don't

[01:11:20] don't let everybody else do the things you do the things yeah find the things that you are

[01:11:27] interesting to you and even yeah I mean that that was a good point you said you went to go play bingo

[01:11:32] and you hated it I mean sometimes you just have to try to find something and do it because you might

[01:11:38] find something that you like that was sucked I don't want to do that again but then you might find

[01:11:42] something where you're like oh wow I really really enjoy this and I didn't know or didn't think

[01:11:49] that I would enjoy it and yeah cuz you never know that's really good advice I like that

[01:11:56] so what would you say about owning your Subaru's and being part of the Subaru community has

[01:12:02] changed your life or how has it I have never met so many wonderful people and I say met

[01:12:12] connected with on Instagram and threads and to be x it truly is like we're all this one great big

[01:12:24] family we're all you know these cousins or whatever and you can just message them and say hey

[01:12:31] you know I listened to your podcast episode and I really thought you're an interesting person

[01:12:37] and I love that you did x to your vehicle because I think that's a cool thing to do or whatever

[01:12:44] and you just I mean you're partly responsible for all of this because

[01:12:53] because I started listening to the episodes and I thought you know what I'm just going to go

[01:12:58] ahead and listen to them all and it doesn't matter to me at all that your main focus has been on

[01:13:08] like overland and all will drive and outdoor adventure I don't care they're Subaru's don't matter to

[01:13:18] me I want to hear about your Forester I want to hear about your Outback I think cross tracks are beautiful

[01:13:24] thank you I get super excited whenever I see another Subaru as the weather's nice I rolled

[01:13:31] in wind and I'm waving and giving them the Suvi wave and not a memorable way back at me

[01:13:39] I get weeks from me honest all the time when I wave they don't get a Suvi wave but then you get a wave

[01:13:46] but it just amazes me that we're all so very different but we're all so much the same in that we

[01:13:59] all of us together embody that Subaru love promise you know we're all doing something

[01:14:06] to help the environment or doing something with animals or you know our communities it's just

[01:14:17] it's just amazing and you're such an enabler one a lot of us are just a bunch of goofballs

[01:14:24] to having fun with our cars and I think that's well yeah yeah there there is the fun factor too but

[01:14:33] and see and she fill is partly responsible for that with his max tracks micro crew nonsense yeah but I

[01:14:39] mean I think that's a really big way that a lot of us can connect to is because like I think

[01:14:47] there's and I've said it many times is like there's a certain it's almost like there's a certain

[01:14:51] personality that comes with people that are really excited and enthusiast about you know the

[01:14:58] Subaru in the first place and then finding out about the community because you find because you

[01:15:03] might be introverted and shy you know or something and you connect with these other people and

[01:15:11] discover oh they're a lot like me and now I don't feel so alone or I feel comfortable in a place

[01:15:19] where I can be myself and not you know feel like I'm gonna be judged for whatever and and I think

[01:15:27] it's just I think it's really helped a lot of people open up not just you know to other people that

[01:15:34] own Subaru's but open up in other areas and aspects of their lives as well oh yes definitely because

[01:15:41] five years ago there would not have been enough money in the world to pay me to walk up to somebody

[01:15:48] that had a podcast and say hey do you know who I am the way I did you

[01:15:54] have Subaru headquarters yeah yeah in January no but there I would have died before I would have

[01:16:01] done anything like that and I was like oh I hope he's there and I'm just gonna introduce myself

[01:16:09] really I know that a lot of people that you have on say this but

[01:16:16] is just amazing that you work so hard and you have I mean this is a wonderful thing that you're doing

[01:16:24] because I now have two friends who are seriously I mean like going to dealerships and looking at

[01:16:33] Subaru seriously considering buying a Subaru because they have listened to a couple of episodes

[01:16:41] of your podcast and they've talked to me and listened to me wax eloquent about how wonderful

[01:16:48] my BRZ is and the Subaru community as a whole so you know you're helping it grow yeah I've had

[01:16:55] some people say that like well I was on the fence about buying a cross trek and then I listen

[01:17:00] to you some of your episodes and now I'm in a buy one so it's I'm glad that it's helped you

[01:17:06] people make the decision to buy a Subaru and but yeah thank you thank you for that I really appreciate

[01:17:13] that you're quite welcome do you think you will always own a Subaru I'm I mean I'm guessing I

[01:17:20] know that answer but oh yeah yeah definitely somebody asked me about a week or so ago what would

[01:17:29] you do if something happened to your BRZ like if I blew up or or you hit a deer or whatever

[01:17:36] I said I would just call the dealership the next day and order another one yeah where can

[01:17:42] give me another one please yep yep we're just you know I'm stuck now and now that I have the

[01:17:50] sambar I don't have a reason you know unless they said oh well you're gonna have to wait like two

[01:17:55] years for another BRZ then I would say let me just get that cross trek yeah get it

[01:18:04] cross trek and now mod that and lift it and put fancy some kind of wacko livery on it forever

[01:18:12] yeah have fun with it then I can finally buy all those things that I've heard all your guests talk

[01:18:17] about you know all your brand episodes yeah yeah that's that's really designed for him does

[01:18:23] make a battery box that will go in my BRZ but you know like spider no drill roof rack uh you know

[01:18:28] no chance I'm never gonna have one of those but I can tell other people about it exactly and

[01:18:36] you know all those kind of things I now know about these things to suggest to people I need to get

[01:18:43] XYZ oh well you should consider you know primitive racing skid place because blah blah blah blah

[01:18:51] and so you know I'm just trying to do my part yeah well thank you yeah it's it's been fun

[01:18:57] it's been a nice journey and again it's it's it's good it's nice to be able to connect with

[01:19:02] a bunch of different people and help them share their journey and their love of their car in this

[01:19:10] community yeah and I'm thrilled that I get to be one of those people yes here you are definitely

[01:19:18] so but yeah thank you for taking the time to record I'm glad we were able to make this happen

[01:19:25] I can't wait to share it with everybody I know and say hey I'm gonna be kind of famous

[01:19:30] I'm gonna be on this podcast but I am actually you cannot you just don't know how thrilled I am to be

[01:19:39] the first BRZ owner to be featured on your podcast and I hope that there will be more

[01:19:46] you know we're I know there are a lot of all-wheel drive Subaru owners that say that BRZs aren't

[01:19:54] real Subaru's because we're not all-wheel drive but believe me this Subaru owner is I mean my BRZ

[01:20:04] is a Subaru it is it is a Subaru it's not a it's not an FRS

[01:20:13] it is a BRZ and it's not an 8.6 well thank you for taking the time to do this

[01:20:18] well thank you so much for having me on I appreciate it you're welcome

[01:20:23] it was great to talk to you and we'll definitely keep in touch and it was great to meet you

[01:20:29] all right thanks because I can add you to it was wonderful to meet you too

[01:20:33] yeah and I can add you to the list of people that I've met in person that I had on the podcast

[01:20:38] which that number is growing yeah and it's really cool yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah thanks again

[01:20:44] and I hope you have a good night and I'll talk to you later all right thank you
