[00:00:00] Hey, this is Peyton. You can find me on Instagram at absolute.xtrek and you're listening to
[00:00:17] episode 171 of Subie & You podcast.
[00:00:21] Hello everybody and welcome to another episode of the Subie & You podcast. As you just heard,
[00:00:26] I have Peyton on the podcast this week and we get to talk about his Crosstrek and
[00:00:34] I really like that it is a manual Crosstrek. We know they are a rare breed so I was really
[00:00:41] excited to have Peyton on here to talk about it. Of course, we're not just talking about
[00:00:45] his Crosstrek because it's a manual. There's a lot more that goes on in this episode
[00:00:51] than just talking about how awesome it is to drive a manual. So you'll have to stay
[00:00:56] tuned to find out and hear all the stories.
[00:00:59] The Subie & You podcast is brought to you by Eccentric Designs. For those of you who
[00:01:04] don't know, Eccentric Designs is a small community-driven business that offers custom
[00:01:09] fit vinyl overlays for most Subaru models. This includes various designs for the rear
[00:01:13] reflectors, tail lights and side tail lights. I also offer fun decal designs
[00:01:18] like the popular fender stripes and stickers. To find designs for your Subie head on
[00:01:22] over to EccentricDesigns.com. There's always more projects in the works so be
[00:01:27] sure to follow at Eccentric.Designs on Instagram.
[00:01:31] Speaking of decals, last week I put my daughter's first decal on her
[00:01:37] Crosstrek. She put a decal of Absol from Pokemon and it was a gift from
[00:01:45] her husband so we went out for some boba tea and after we got done with
[00:01:51] that we put the decal on her car and she was super excited
[00:01:56] to have her first decal on and of course I know that won't be the last.
[00:02:01] Who knows where hers is gonna end up but she's really excited about doing
[00:02:07] some mods and so we'll have to get some more decals for her and probably
[00:02:12] at least at minimum some skid plates. And I know a place that you can get
[00:02:18] some skid plates. You can get some skid plates from MeleeDesignFirm.com
[00:02:23] because not only do they sell the battery mounts that many people have
[00:02:28] used for their Subaru's but they are also a distributor now for Primitive
[00:02:35] Racing. So head on over to MeleeDesignFirm.com and check out
[00:02:41] their selection of Primitive Racing products as well as all of the Melee
[00:02:46] products and all of the other great items that you can find on the
[00:02:51] website. Thank you so much Melee Design Firm for sponsoring the SUBNU podcast.
[00:02:55] We have a new patron question of the week that comes from Sierra who goes by
[00:03:00] SLT Trek and she asks what's a genre of music you'll never get disinterested
[00:03:08] in? And I didn't have to think about that too hard but I would have to say
[00:03:13] Alternative slash Indie which includes bands like Mike Snow, Two Door Cinema
[00:03:21] Club and Vampire Weekend falls into that category. Also MGMT so that type
[00:03:29] of music is... I wouldn't say that it's like my absolute favorite but it's
[00:03:35] probably the type of music that I enjoy listening to the most and one
[00:03:41] that I know that I would never get disinterested in and coming in second
[00:03:46] would be metal. I'm a metalhead. I really enjoy it. Sometimes I don't know
[00:03:53] why but I do. So thank you so much Sierra for your question. This episode
[00:03:59] is brought to you by SubaruGear.com. If you have not gone over to
[00:04:05] SubaruGear.com to explore the website, what are you even doing with your

[00:07:51] Alright and now we will get into this episode with Peyton to hear all about
[00:07:54] Absol Xtrek and his adventures and some stories that he has to tell.
[00:08:02] It was a really great episode. It was fun recording with him and I'm excited
[00:08:07] to share it so here we go. Welcome to the podcast. It's nice to have you on.
[00:08:32] Thanks. Yeah, you're welcome. I want to say first of all that I'm really
[00:08:38] excited and honored to have another manual Xtrek on the podcast because
[00:08:42] we're so rare and you don't come across them too often so when I do I
[00:08:48] get really excited. Yeah that's fair. I mean this is my second one that
[00:08:52] I've owned now so I have a 2015 that was a five speed and now I have this
[00:08:59] one that's the six speed so it's definitely different. Yeah so how does
[00:09:03] that, I mean obviously you have an extra gear but like how does
[00:09:08] the driving experience going from the five speed to the six speed is
[00:09:13] it a very noticeable difference or is it just kind of subtle? See I
[00:09:19] think I notice it mainly on the trails. City driving you can't really tell the
[00:09:23] difference like they're about the same but once you get on the trails like I
[00:09:27] feel like first gear in the six speed is kind of short so I definitely see
[00:09:32] trying to keep in trail packs and stuff once it starts getting, I want to
[00:09:36] say difficult but just to where everybody starts kind of clustering up
[00:09:40] you get that definite like first to second over and over and over. Yeah so
[00:09:46] were you able to stay in first gear longer in your five speed? Oh yeah
[00:09:51] absolutely I felt like I could stay in it a lot longer it wasn't super short
[00:09:55] and it definitely did a lot different with like how the handling was it was
[00:10:00] just weird, just a weird difference. I really wish that they would have made
[00:10:04] a 2.5 or the Sport in a manual which a lot of people also wish that
[00:10:10] they did because it'd be nice to have a little bit of extra power but
[00:10:13] having a manual it feels like you definitely have a little more control
[00:10:17] and you can keep it in gear a little bit longer than sometimes maybe you
[00:10:22] should but hey that's what's fun. Yeah no I mean you definitely can kind of
[00:10:26] make up for it, you don't have the restriction of the CVT shifting for
[00:10:30] you then some of them they have like the manual option in the CVT but
[00:10:35] it's just it's still kind of you can't override it too much eventually
[00:10:40] Yeah because the previous car that I had had like the manual option and the
[00:10:45] paddle shifters and I used to you know I mean I used to use that but it's
[00:10:51] just it's not the same not at all but what's funny is I so I would have
[00:10:56] like a water bottle in my cup holder and I would pretend that I was
[00:10:59] shifting gears with it because like I just I wanted a manual so bad and
[00:11:04] because I had a 2012 Kia Forte five-door and it the only model that was
[00:11:13] available as a manual was like the base sedan and I'm like I don't want a
[00:11:17] sedan I want a hatchback and I got like I got the Sport trim and it was
[00:11:22] nice but I was thinking like you would think the Sport trim
[00:11:26] would have a manual as an option and so that was 2012 and 2016 I was
[00:11:32] driving around and I saw you know a 2016 model and I went to go look at the
[00:11:39] website and the Sport trim of the Kia Forte five-door it came with a manual
[00:11:50] transmission and it was an option to get an automatic and I'm like why
[00:11:53] didn't they have that when I got mine?
[00:11:55] Right it's kind of like the
[00:11:57] cross-track though technically because when you go to build sheet one
[00:12:00] technically it like it's more expensive to have the CVT so it's just weird it's
[00:12:05] like I'll pay less and have a manual I'm absolutely okay with that.
[00:12:09] Yeah I know and then unfortunately now they don't have a manual for the
[00:12:13] third-gen cross-track.
[00:12:15] Yeah that killed it.
[00:12:18] Yeah yeah I mean the new cross-tracks are nice my daughter just
[00:12:21] bought one and I know people are seeing it but which is cool she's
[00:12:25] picking up followers pretty quick which is fun it's fun for me to see her you
[00:12:30] know get into the community now but that's for a different story.
[00:12:34] Yeah at least you'll have somebody to do it with now too.
[00:12:37] Yeah yeah now I just got to get my son in a Subaru so one of my
[00:12:42] questions was is this your first Subaru and you just answered that a
[00:12:45] little while ago that it's not so so you had a 2015 you said but what
[00:12:50] got you interested in getting into a Subaru and why a cross-track back then?
[00:12:57] Growing up I had a bunch of friends in like high school and stuff like I
[00:13:00] always had them around that like they had Subarus and they had Jeeves and
[00:13:05] they had like off-road cars. I had and still have a 1990 Ford Bronco so
[00:13:13] I used to go with all and the stuff that they used to take the Subarus
[00:13:18] through which is stupid. They used to just have so much fun we'd be going
[00:13:23] through I watched my friend in a it was a 2000 in a Presa you know body
[00:13:30] style that everybody dreams about he had that the 25 and he pulled out it
[00:13:35] to come out of a ditch and that was like shocking it was like two feet of
[00:13:40] snow that he pulled them out of and I was like no like that didn't just
[00:13:44] happen because we were literally in his Subaru and the Tacoma and he fell in I
[00:13:52] was like all right cool we'll go back home real quick we'll go grab the
[00:13:55] Bronco I'll pull him out not a big deal and he's like no I got straps
[00:13:59] we'll get him out like don't what you're not getting him out and he got
[00:14:02] him out. I was just shocked I was like all right cool I want a Subaru now.
[00:14:07] Yeah so how old were you then? That was 17. Okay. So I mean into my driving it was
[00:14:18] pretty soon that I learned I was like damn I want a Subaru like I want I
[00:14:21] want to go play with like this like this is kind of cool and so when I
[00:14:26] first went to go look for a Subaru I wanted a Impreza Outback Sport which
[00:14:33] if you know anything about it that's kind of like the early version of the
[00:14:37] Crosstrek that was kind of what the Crosstrek took its place okay and so we
[00:14:43] went looked at one and it was clean it was a manual it had the five-speed
[00:14:49] but we took it up to my shop where I worked and pulled codes because I was
[00:14:54] like hey you know can I take this and can I go look at it can I pull
[00:14:59] codes can I cut and they're like yeah go ahead so I did that pulled a bunch of
[00:15:03] cat codes and I was like oh I'm like I really do not want to buy a car and
[00:15:09] already have to deal with that yeah so I took it back and I was like all
[00:15:15] right cool like I'm sorry I can't buy this like and so it was kind of
[00:15:18] like that it hurt like it was like the dream was right there and it just
[00:15:22] went away. What year was this? This would have been 2018 okay was when I
[00:15:28] first started looking at it and it was because my Bronco like it's it's great
[00:15:34] it's doing good but like I don't drive it nearly as much as I should but like
[00:15:38] I deleted it for multiple years and it definitely took a toll on it and so
[00:15:45] once we got that kind of like to the point where it was like all right
[00:15:48] I'm gonna need a more reliable car that's when I started looking at
[00:15:51] Subaru's but once that all fell through with the I had been talking to some
[00:15:59] people and one of the guys I knew at AutoNation Subaru over by where I live
[00:16:06] he was like well why don't you look at a Crosstrek? I was like what do you
[00:16:10] mean a Crosstrek? You know I'm like those are automatics I don't want an
[00:16:14] automatic and he's like no you can get them with a five-speed and so it
[00:16:18] blew my mind for a second I was like wait you can get that manual still? I was
[00:16:22] like all right I'm listening now and they had a it was like that weird like
[00:16:29] gray blue yeah yeah and so he told me that they had it and I got with my
[00:16:36] dad I'm like hey can we go look at this? We looked at it I drove it my
[00:16:40] dad scared the sales guy because my dad he joked because I learned how to
[00:16:46] drive a stick shift at my work they joked with sales guy you know my dad
[00:16:51] sitting in the back I'm sitting up front sales dude sitting in the passenger
[00:16:54] seat my dad's like do you not even know how to drive this and that sales
[00:17:00] dude's face like you know you think I was I think I was like I would have
[00:17:06] been like 19 at the time you see that sales dude look at me and look at my
[00:17:10] dad and it was just like a straight ghost face you know he was like what
[00:17:14] am I in for? Yeah and so I drove perfectly fine you know enjoyed the
[00:17:19] drive and he was just like you have no idea how many kids come in and try to
[00:17:25] drive WRX's and it is just a hell of a drive yeah he's like it is just
[00:17:30] terrifying well my dad definitely got him good he's like I thought this was
[00:17:34] gonna be one of those test drives and so it was pretty funny yeah but
[00:17:40] yeah no I mean I got that one I loved it I definitely beat the crap out of it
[00:17:45] went and did more than I've done with this one with that one because I guess
[00:17:48] I was less afraid since it's not as new yeah so that's definitely been my
[00:17:54] definitely my crutch is like this one's new I've never had a brand new
[00:17:59] car so it's like hard to go do crazy stuff with it yeah cuz you don't
[00:18:06] you don't want to yeah I know what you mean you don't want to like mess it up
[00:18:11] and you know like risk something too much happening to it but so like so
[00:18:17] you had the 2015 and what kind of experiences did you have with that one
[00:18:25] obviously you said you drove it kind of hard and but like when you
[00:18:29] because you saw the other guy with his Subaru pull out the Tacoma and
[00:18:33] then you're like okay I definitely want a Subaru so then like what were some of
[00:18:37] your experiences owning that car and driving it that were just like okay
[00:18:42] man this thing is just like so great I'm so glad I bought this car and
[00:18:46] obviously you wanted a manual which you got yes I mean I lived in a small
[00:18:53] town it's called Roxboro and it's kind of like Foothills in Colorado
[00:18:58] and there was some fun like dirt like road boots that are around there and
[00:19:03] they're not really like marked very well and the one night that we were
[00:19:09] going we were all being stupid we were romping around I just put my light bar
[00:19:13] on my cross-striks so like I can see everything you know you know how that
[00:19:18] goes first night with a light bar you're like I'm invincible I can see
[00:19:21] everything so we're going and I forgot about there was this one turn
[00:19:26] where there's like a service road if you keep going down it but it like drops
[00:19:30] off or you turn and you continue in the road well I went straight about I
[00:19:37] took that drop off at like 45 miles an hour and I jumped it I full jump
[00:19:45] that car and I was like oh crap here we go like but it handled it like I
[00:19:50] kind of you know got on the brakes a little hard once I landed but like
[00:19:55] it was definitely kind of a bounce around real quick and I was still on a road
[00:19:58] technically but it was just like I said it was such a straight drop
[00:20:02] and that was where I was like cool I actually did something that I didn't
[00:20:06] mean to do that actually worked out okay and this was like it was just a
[00:20:10] shock like I was a shock does like holy crap like this thing did way
[00:20:13] better than I expected it so but that was like probably the worst
[00:20:20] I ever did with that car was the one time that I really jumped it I
[00:20:23] was like oh shoot like I didn't probably get that much air but like
[00:20:27] it's dark you can't see it's like yeah once you see that light bar like stop
[00:20:31] hitting the road and you're like uh-oh yeah so like how many miles did it have
[00:20:38] when you bought it and how many miles did you end up putting on it by the
[00:20:42] time you got this new the new trick so when I bought it it had it would
[00:20:48] have been like I'd probably say about like 33,000 I think it was like 33,000
[00:20:54] 34,000 and of course it was my first manual car so I was always like afraid
[00:21:02] to drive it and like it was crazy it was a weird experience having your
[00:21:06] first daily like you go from a big off-road truck down to a manual
[00:21:11] cross-track it was a huge jump but it was pretty cool I got when I
[00:21:17] traded my other one in I think I was at like I want to say it was like 86,000 so
[00:21:23] I put a good like 50-ish thousand on it I owned it for like four years yeah
[00:21:30] I've had mine for less than four years and I'm at 101,000 miles
[00:21:35] I know I saw that was crazy because yours is a 22 as well right no mine's a 21
[00:21:41] oh okay so yours is a 21 and it has 100,000 mine's a 22 and I have 20
[00:21:47] oh yeah so it's like even that is still crazy one year more and you do 80,000 more than me
[00:21:53] yeah yeah I just I mean I I joke that like and I joke around with my girlfriend she's
[00:21:59] like no no that is not like she like did some calculations she was like tell me how far it
[00:22:04] is to get here and she's like okay maybe that's like 25 percent of all your miles but
[00:22:10] really most of the miles come from just driving around the Houston area I mean I just
[00:22:15] I drive a lot just because for one like around here if you want to go somewhere like into town
[00:22:22] or something it's like a 30-minute drive plus and then like there's just there's so many
[00:22:27] things that are on the other side of Houston and you know like some towns and when you're
[00:22:33] like oh it's on the other side of town and the other side of town is like 15 minutes away
[00:22:37] the other side of town in Houston is an hour away so it's you know it's there's just a lot
[00:22:43] of driving that happens but you know that's what they're for yeah I mean that's that's why we keep
[00:22:50] them streetable you know yeah well especially if it's your daily too I mean you've got
[00:22:57] you've got I mean unless you are somewhere where I mean not that you want to have to keep preparing
[00:23:03] it but like I don't really I'd have to take it somewhere and have pay somebody to take care of
[00:23:08] it for me if I if I beat it up I don't have you know people around here that can help me
[00:23:13] fix it at a lower much lower cost so I really have to take care of mine
[00:23:19] do you work on your own then or do you are you not super mechanically inclined or
[00:23:24] I mean I do what I can you know just like I've put on all my mods I've done you know oil changes
[00:23:31] I put on the pitch stop that I have but like I took it in to have it serviced to have the
[00:23:37] spark plugs replaced and fluids flushed and stuff like that but I mean I could probably
[00:23:45] go and do some of that stuff at my cousin's house but I mean he lives like a little over
[00:23:49] an hour away so there's the time to get there and come back and then the time to be there
[00:23:55] and then not knowing exactly how to do something would take us even longer
[00:24:01] so I wish I could do more on my own it's definitely cool like I can officially say
[00:24:08] everything that is done to my car other than the wrap in the tint me and my roommate have
[00:24:13] done ourselves that's awesome we've mounted the tires on it we've done hitch we've done
[00:24:19] you know my springs everything like skid plates everything like all that stuff we did on our own
[00:24:27] so even with his car too his is all everything we've done ourselves yeah I mean I put my
[00:24:32] skid plates on I put my rack on you know I put uh what else like I said I put the pitch stop
[00:24:38] in so the only thing I haven't done is just like service stuff other than oil changes
[00:24:44] but yeah that's not bad yeah so so when did you so why did you trade in your
[00:24:51] cross trick for the new one so I blame my co-worker back when I was over at Nissan working
[00:24:59] in parts so he used to always come around during COVID you know it was slow it was just
[00:25:04] naturally slow in the automotive industry well used car prices went up and so they were all
[00:25:10] joking with everybody like you should trade your car in for a new car because we need sales
[00:25:15] and I was like no I'm not traded in well one day he's like let me see your keys I'm like
[00:25:21] okay he's like I just I just want to go look at your car I'm like okay here I trust you
[00:25:25] here's my keys whatever and he comes back he's like yeah here's a here's the value of your
[00:25:31] car and I was like no I was like you no way he's like yeah he's like it's so he thought it was
[00:25:37] 16 that he got it up and I owed like nine on it so I was like no way I was like you're kidding
[00:25:44] me right wow yeah he's like he's like yeah he's like that's what it's worth and I was like
[00:25:49] okay well I'm like I'm we're gonna roll with that and he's like so you're gonna trade
[00:25:53] in I was like yeah but not here so I talked to another one of our co-workers that used to
[00:25:59] work with us Brace over at uh at uh Gru's Subaru and I told her I was like this is what I want
[00:26:08] this is what they're saying they can get me for my car if you can get me what I want
[00:26:12] give me what I want for my car I'm in I'll trade it in today no no questions asked
[00:26:19] well it was early 23 or 22 when I got mine and they were only doing order because it was
[00:26:26] they were so tight with everything trying to kind of like you know deal with COVID deal with like
[00:26:34] sales being down everything they were basically like unless it was a very very common car
[00:26:41] it's going to be ordered and so I was like all right well it's not a very common car
[00:26:47] yeah she's like she's like well she's and that's like it was funny how you're talking
[00:26:51] about like the sport and stuff coming to manual she's like well they have this sport trim and I
[00:26:56] was like oh that's cool she's like yeah it's a two five got me all hooked on it she's like oh
[00:27:00] okay yeah but it's a CVT and I was like all right now I'm good I'm good I don't want to
[00:27:04] deal with that I worked I worked for Nissan I got terrified of CVTs enough
[00:27:10] literally like I was just like no thanks and so she's like all right well we got to order
[00:27:16] in what do you want to do and I was like all right cool so they did it like pretty
[00:27:20] generic like it was give us two colors you want give us a couple options you know that way it was
[00:27:27] like they built a couple cars and I pushed the order to super and we're like let's see if they'll
[00:27:33] fill one you know because they were just so like I don't know they might fill it or they
[00:27:38] might just kick it back and so we did that put it there it was like a Friday night I was
[00:27:46] like all right cool let me know I'm off on Monday I'll come back we can talk about it and figure out
[00:27:53] what what Subaru says over the weekend well Saturday she calls me she goes yeah Subaru
[00:28:01] tonight all of it she's like great there they said that there's no availability for any of
[00:28:06] it I was like oh I'm like well I guess I'm gonna stick with the 15 you know and all of
[00:28:13] a sudden she gets this call from her GM after talking to me and she's like didn't you know
[00:28:19] he was telling her like didn't you think you had somebody that wanted a manual cross track
[00:28:24] and she's like yeah why well they ordered one six months earlier for another guy that he put
[00:28:31] five hundred dollars down on it and he never showed up for it you know with it taking
[00:28:38] six months to get there it was kind of one of those looks like that dude probably
[00:28:41] bought a car already yeah yeah so the GM was like well I'll give him Saturday, Sunday,
[00:28:50] and then Monday morning until like 10 to respond to me in an email and I'll leave him a voice
[00:28:55] mail and if he doesn't you can give the car to Payton so she calls me and she's like well
[00:29:02] here's the deal I know you kind of were saying you were looking at like a cool khaki gray
[00:29:07] or a white you weren't kind of torn but we have a white one that's here that my GM is gonna hit
[00:29:16] this dude up and if he doesn't respond you can have it she's like is that okay and I'm like
[00:29:22] I'm perfectly happy with that please please do not respond yeah so like I joke with everybody
[00:29:30] like you know that like anticipation for Christmas as a kid like nothing beat that Sunday that was
[00:29:38] terrible because I was like oh he's gonna call him back oh he's gonna he's gonna email him back
[00:29:43] and I'm just that's it this is over this is such a like long shot obscure thing that
[00:29:48] I'm like this isn't gonna happen so I was driving my mom nuts my dad nuts my girlfriend
[00:29:54] nuts my roommate nuts everybody was like just shut up just wait you'll be fine and it was crazy
[00:30:01] like it was such a terrible like in a good way terrible just like an excited like I want this
[00:30:08] car so bad I want this car so bad and so she didn't say anything through Saturday didn't say
[00:30:15] anything through Sunday and I got my dad Monday and I was like hey can we go have breakfast
[00:30:21] Duffy roll which is right next to group super and wait for a call I want to be ready to go
[00:30:28] and he's like yeah that's fine so threw it out I was like all right cool and get this call
[00:30:36] right as they open and grace was like it's yours come get it I was like I am right next door
[00:30:42] oh my I'll literally be there like five minutes so ran over there got it I was super excited
[00:30:49] and then it was crazy when I put them next to each other I have like a picture on my Instagram
[00:30:53] with them next to each other yeah so I think at that point like that was where it sunk as I was
[00:30:58] like holy crap I traded in my car like it was just like it kind of hurt I was like
[00:31:04] my car is right there but my other car is right there but that's not my car anymore
[00:31:09] like you know I learned on that car it was like it kind of hurt watching go you know
[00:31:15] how long yeah how long did that stick with you of like man did I make the right decision
[00:31:20] there goes my other car that I had spent four years with yeah it to this day it's still
[00:31:30] it still gets me every once in a while especially with my roommate having one that's
[00:31:34] literally was like a duplicate like build like we always joked it was like the the brother
[00:31:40] builds like they were like literally like just two different colors you know and so it was
[00:31:46] definitely hard because it was like I kind of broke that and got this and so I was like I had
[00:31:51] this cool thing where I was going to build my car with my best friend like have matching
[00:31:57] cars do things that are like similar but not exactly the same that way we both have our own
[00:32:02] little twists yeah of course and it was like I killed it but honestly I think
[00:32:09] trading that car in was probably the best decision I made one because the positive equity
[00:32:14] I had on my car oh 100% I got the car I got the manual for a little cheaper than MSRP
[00:32:21] because they're trying to be like we need to get rid of this car you know because we're
[00:32:24] not going to sell it it's manual not a lot of people can drive I'll take it so yeah so
[00:32:30] I got a little bit off there plus they gave me what I wanted for my trade in so I rolled in like
[00:32:35] it was basically the seven grand equity and then basically another thousand because of
[00:32:41] what they took off the MSRP on it so like I rolled an eight grand ahead on the star
[00:32:45] and that's awesome that is I couldn't ask for anything more than that my insurance went down
[00:32:51] my car payment went down because of how much equity I was able to roll like everything just
[00:32:55] became cheaper so I was like this is literally a no-brainer yeah with the miles that I have on
[00:33:03] pearl and I think what I could potentially get for it and put towards another car it's like
[00:33:12] it's been tempting but I can't I can't get away from a manual I mean I would have to
[00:33:17] find another like maybe a 23 or something manual somewhere that has low mileage and then
[00:33:26] maybe I might consider it but and I also think that I would probably have to get another white
[00:33:30] one and just kind of rebuild it or just take as much off as I could and put it on the you
[00:33:37] know the new one but I don't know it's just I you know I posted in my stories on pearl's
[00:33:43] page that I traded her in and bought a new cross trek and people were freaking out
[00:33:49] and but because like and somebody said you just said on your like episode where you talked about
[00:33:54] reaching 100 000 miles that you couldn't get rid of it and I'm like I know but it's you know
[00:34:00] high mileage and driving back and forth to Dallas a lot is don't feel comfortable which
[00:34:05] is a total lie but I'm like I just it just popped in my head because I took pictures of
[00:34:11] my daughter with her car then I took pictures of her car next to pearl and it just like hit me
[00:34:17] all of a sudden I was like oh I want to mess with people real quick so I did that and it was fun
[00:34:25] yeah I bet it was I mean if you're one of those like I totally get it especially
[00:34:29] with the amount of driving you get into I get having a car that would be
[00:34:35] an automatic a little bit I guess easier to drive but the manual is just fun it makes the
[00:34:41] those hundred thousand miles at a hundred thousand miles worth of enjoyable driving yeah you know
[00:34:47] yeah definitely so yeah I know I have all these questions that you've already answered
[00:34:54] but I mean there's a lot of other questions but so my I was telling my daughter that I was
[00:35:00] getting ready to record because it's like now we're going to have a little bit more of a
[00:35:03] connection since she has a Subaru but I was telling her I was getting ready to record with
[00:35:07] somebody and I sent her your Instagram handle or your page and she said is his name from Pokemon
[00:35:13] and I was like I don't know I'll ask him so is it from Pokemon yes it is from Pokemon I am
[00:35:21] been a die-hard Pokemon fan ever since a kid my mom she got me into Pokemon because I had
[00:35:29] like speech issues as a kid and so it was like kind of her joke like she got me into
[00:35:33] Pokemon she like had me pronouncing the Pokemon names just to kind of like help me with that
[00:35:38] because some of them are a little difficult to pronounce yeah and I don't know I've grown up
[00:35:43] playing it I still play it to this day I literally have like a little Game Boy that I
[00:35:48] take with me everywhere like even when we go like up in the mountains and stuff I have it
[00:35:51] I'll take it with me and we'll play games like when we're sitting around I'll just play games
[00:35:56] so there's something about playing games too I mean it's it's fun you know that's I don't
[00:36:02] think that's I like I don't really play games anymore not because I'm like oh I'm an adult and
[00:36:08] I don't play games it's like I love playing games it's just I just don't make the time for
[00:36:12] it but you know when I do I'm just like it's just so fun you know it's fun to play games
[00:36:19] you can never you can never I don't think you could ever really grow out of that I think
[00:36:23] it's just that maybe you have other interests you know but if like I said if you pick up a
[00:36:27] game it's still going to be fun no matter how old you are if you enjoy games
[00:36:32] yeah I mean growing up like me and my Nana she got me into video games I blame her for it
[00:36:39] but she played video games with me all the time like we like I'd go over to her house for
[00:36:45] the weekend and we just play PlayStation all the time like our big game that we played
[00:36:52] Ratchet and Clank I was like the game and of course you know I was little so she's over there
[00:36:59] she's like I think she would have been like late 50s early 60s at the time and you get this kid
[00:37:07] that's like I can't beat this level and now you have everything is on her shoulders like
[00:37:12] you have to beat it for him he's gonna be upset he's gonna cry like yeah I have to beat
[00:37:17] this so it was always hilarious that's awesome that's really cool so did you have other names
[00:37:23] in mind for your cross track or was that it so the other one that I was swaying that I still
[00:37:30] kind of am like I really would like to have seen how it went was I don't know how big into
[00:37:36] Star Wars you are but in the Clone Wars there was Commander Cody so Commander Cody's his
[00:37:43] accent color on his helmet with this whole theme was orange and so I was like oh I'm going to do
[00:37:50] white black with orange accents how cool would that be to do a stormtrooper that has orange
[00:37:55] accents because everybody always plays the whole white and blackest stormtrooper you know
[00:38:00] that's the style and so I was like I'd still be stormtrooper because I would just be
[00:38:06] you know Commander Cody and so I bounced off of that I was like all right you know
[00:38:13] kind of sat there and I was like I'm way more of a Pokemon fan than I am a Star Wars fan so I was
[00:38:18] like I'm gonna stick to the Pokemon stuff and so I threw on Mountain Roo a like a question
[00:38:25] and I was like hey help me name my car I want to name it a Pokemon I don't know what but
[00:38:30] I had Absol kind of in the back of my mind immediately one of the girls in there her
[00:38:35] name is Amber she immediately was like you should name it Absol and I was like okay I'm
[00:38:40] like well now that you've said it and I've been thinking it now it's done there's my sign this is it
[00:38:47] so did you have a name for your other cross track so my other cross track was Stitch
[00:38:55] okay I named that one Stitch and so that was pretty cool I had like a bunch of like Stitch
[00:39:01] stuff for it like when I go to car shows I always have like a little Stitch stuff animal on
[00:39:04] it and then I also like I had this weird idea of like I'm gonna start clipping stuff animals
[00:39:11] to the top of my roof rack and like they flop around when I drive and so I throw a Stitch
[00:39:16] up there and people would always be laughing falling behind me you just see the Stitch just
[00:39:20] flying in the wind like it's gonna fall off and I had it all like sewn all special but like
[00:39:25] hook it and stuff it was great it was always hilarious yeah that's a good movie it's a good
[00:39:31] name too yeah Stitch yeah so uh I guess when I gotta get I gotta reconfocus see this is what
[00:39:40] happens with some of the episodes is I have all these questions but we get into a conversation
[00:39:46] and we just it just like takes its own path and I love when that happens because then it's
[00:39:51] like it's just a organic natural conversation did you how much did you mod your other cross
[00:39:58] track and and I'm guessing that whatever you did to that you were already thinking okay I'm
[00:40:03] gonna do something to the next one obviously but like what did you have on the previous one
[00:40:09] so the big thing was is I I did the two well it's technically the inch and a half
[00:40:15] ready lift spacers I did those on my end because with where I was working we had a wheel pros
[00:40:24] account and when wheel pros bought out ready lift I was like oh sweet we have discounts on
[00:40:30] this now like I can get one for super cheap and so I was like all right cool I'm gonna do it
[00:40:36] I did that and then I did your redneck cheap high school kid exhaust and I cut out the uh
[00:40:48] I cut out the resonator and just we welded a straight pipe through it
[00:40:53] and then I put the borla axle back on it which was fun it it was it was loud it wasn't too loud
[00:41:01] but it was loud yeah and it popped like no there so it was it's fun you know especially
[00:41:06] since it's in a manual so you can kind of drop the clutch rabbit a little bit pop it it
[00:41:10] was it was fun so did that and then I put a cold air intake on it and then I did uh all
[00:41:17] the kicker door speakers I did um a jail audio sound system in it which I still have I
[00:41:26] I was gonna put them in this car but then it was one of those days like I started getting
[00:41:31] ready to wire it and I was like no this is too difficult and then that's where I was like
[00:41:36] okay cool well I did this before already I want to take a different approach with this car
[00:41:41] I started everybody started saying your new one already looks just like your old one and I was
[00:41:46] like I don't want to have that I want to have something different so I told myself
[00:41:52] everything I did to my old car was going to be the last things I did so I haven't done a
[00:41:58] lift yet I haven't done I mean I technically didn't axle back but I haven't done anything
[00:42:03] more than that on it like I kind of told myself I was like we're going the other way like those
[00:42:09] are going to be the last mods we hit because I didn't get to do all the fun overland stuff
[00:42:13] with that one like I wanted to so that's where this one kind of came into play
[00:42:19] so then what were you thinking for this one as far as like what you wanted to do first if
[00:42:24] you were taking a different approach so the first thing that I did with this one
[00:42:30] was I wanted to do I think realistically the first like real mod that I did was
[00:42:38] I put a hitch on it and then I ended up putting the awning on it and then I did
[00:42:45] the ditch lights that was like all kind of within like a month or two that I did
[00:42:50] and so it was cool I got to go like up and camping like kind of go up on trails and just
[00:42:55] kick it up at the top throw some shade like it was cool it was like a way different thing like
[00:43:01] so I did that first those were like the first mods that I did and then so taking still a
[00:43:08] different approach like what were you kind of building in your head of like okay this is
[00:43:14] what I want to do with this one and as I progress forward into like because I mean
[00:43:21] you're obviously going to mod it you know but like what were some of the other things that
[00:43:25] you had in your head if like that you wanted to get and I guess maybe the look that you were
[00:43:30] going for so I wanted to go more for like an overland approach like my other one like
[00:43:35] if you ask anybody that had seen it it was more a rowdy setup like it was more like
[00:43:40] had that inch and a half lift it had falcon wild peaks on it just stock wheels
[00:43:45] and it I definitely took it and I sped around and played with it more I didn't sit there and go on
[00:43:52] like difficult trails or anything like that we went like dirt we used to just like drift it
[00:43:58] around throw it through muddles that kind of stuff so I was like I want to do more of a
[00:44:04] I want to go see cool stuff I want to go see that kind of stuff like not just like run
[00:44:08] around and go find places that are close by and like go be reckless I guess yeah now I get that
[00:44:16] yeah no that's good I mean it's it's it's nice to take a different approach with things
[00:44:23] especially I mean since you had a very similar car I mean it's a cross-strike it's just a newer
[00:44:27] generation so like literally when you first started driving it what did it feel like because
[00:44:34] I mean we talked about the gears and everything earlier but like what did the overall feel of the
[00:44:39] car and like what did it kind of mean to you now being in a newer generation cross-strike
[00:44:45] because the interior is obviously different and then the exterior looks different and so
[00:44:51] so kind of just take that approach of like how it felt to you personally but then like
[00:44:56] what were some of the features that you liked about the new cross-strike compared to the old
[00:45:03] one so I know the one thing that I will say between both the cross-tricks that I liked
[00:45:09] better in the cross the 15 than the 22 is as dumb as it is that the climate control
[00:45:16] I really liked the actual knobs because you could like you didn't have to like watch the
[00:45:22] display as you turn because you can just continuously turn it it doesn't you know like
[00:45:26] end like you're trying to turn up the temperature it'll just continue to spin you
[00:45:31] know back on the 15 you turn it all the way till it was over on the right like okay cool
[00:45:35] it's all the way hot you know like this one you have to look at that heads up display and go
[00:45:40] okay cool what temperature am I at like oh yeah I know what floor settings you know especially
[00:45:47] because like again it just spins so like when you're trying to change from like defrost to
[00:45:52] like you know just normal like straight out like you kind of thing like I don't know it's
[00:45:57] kind of weird because like oh I know what you're talking about you have to watch it because you can't
[00:46:02] just do I do yeah no I do that all the time because like I will sometimes I'll switch it and
[00:46:07] I'm like I didn't mean to do that and then you have to go through it again so I know
[00:46:11] exactly what okay now I wasn't really sure what you're talking about but my my kia was
[00:46:15] like that where there were definite definite knob settings so like you can be driving and
[00:46:20] you can turn the knob like three clicks over and you're like I know where I'm at for the
[00:46:24] climate control setting same with the temperature it's like I know I can turn it so far and it's
[00:46:28] going to be at the temperature I want it to be whereas you're exactly right so you have to look
[00:46:32] up there see what the fan setting is on see what the temperature is and all so many times
[00:46:38] not because of the display but just I will like oh I want to turn the temperature down
[00:46:43] and I turn the fan down by mistake or vice versa if they're wrong grab the wrong one
[00:46:48] that was probably my biggest thing like like you said with the clicks like I was so used to
[00:46:52] like okay cool like I'm gonna throw it a couple clicks from the middle like you get because like
[00:46:57] it was all cable driven so like once you like hit the middle you can kind of feel the cable
[00:47:01] kind of give a little bit of slack so when you're in a manual car you're trying to
[00:47:06] pay more attention to driving yeah so it was definitely way nicer to have that because
[00:47:11] you didn't have to sit there and like you didn't have to fiddle with it as much you
[00:47:15] didn't have to sit there and like play with it like you could just turn it real quick and
[00:47:18] be like all right cool it's there like we're good yeah yeah oh so what about the x down
[00:47:25] oh sorry go ahead the x no you're good I definitely think the exterior
[00:47:31] the especially since I went from like a drastic color difference I went from having this dark
[00:47:36] weird blue that literally any scratch I swear anytime we went on a dirt road that had debris
[00:47:44] or anything I swear I got scratches all over the car all the time and so it was like super
[00:47:49] annoying because you could see everything and it always drove me nuts but this one like
[00:47:55] it hides everything a lot better yeah it's got way sharper lines in the body like
[00:48:02] it pops more like it's it's literally like a 180 yeah is there other than like the climate
[00:48:10] control is there anything about the 22 that you don't like that you wish you still had from the
[00:48:16] 15 I mean not I mean honestly not really I mean like I honestly like the 22 better
[00:48:28] there's like the small nitpicky things like literally like I said on trails like the shorter
[00:48:33] first year is kind of weird like it's got more torque you know it's got that more initial
[00:48:39] torque which is nice like yeah getting up on this stuff but like I definitely wish I still
[00:48:46] had the five speed because like cruising with people gets kind of annoying because if people
[00:48:50] like if everybody's all in tune and like they pick a speed it's cool like if we can pick a
[00:48:56] speed on a trail and just go it's good but once you get that like start stop we're going
[00:49:03] to slow down we're going to randomly speed up like then it's just like okay like this is annoying
[00:49:09] now yeah I know what you mean I've I've experienced that a few times not too often but I know what
[00:49:15] you mean but so like speaking of like kind of going back to your mods you installed your
[00:49:22] anderson design fab skid plates and in 2023 but how long were you driving around without
[00:49:29] skid plates and were you going off road without skid plates and getting nervous
[00:49:33] so I think I did every all the trails up till that point without skid plates didn't have any like
[00:49:40] protection and I'm again stock ride height so it was definitely I definitely went into some
[00:49:46] trails that I probably shouldn't have the biggest one to remember was honestly my
[00:49:50] favorite trail trip that I've done just because we went out with 20 it was like 24 super
[00:49:57] groups in two jeeps and we went in this trail it was a one-way trail it was up in boulder
[00:50:04] colorado it's called switzerland trail super fun great stuff but like there are some spots
[00:50:13] that it's a little rocky and we went in like middle of february so it was pretty snowy
[00:50:20] like that was the first time that I honestly got stuck ish you know because again I was
[00:50:25] running the stock all season tires oh wow going and playing in a foot of snow
[00:50:32] and I probably should know again didn't have skid plates and so first coming out you know
[00:50:37] first coming up the hill we hit this like little like tiny creek pass where it was like
[00:50:43] it was just a little bit below the bumper so I was like all right cool like this is my
[00:50:47] first real trail run and I had some deep water okay you know they said there was going
[00:50:51] to be some runoff because of the snow okay cool let's see what this is about
[00:50:56] then we start getting out first snow patch we hit is deep and you know I'm kind of watching
[00:51:02] what everybody else is doing you know again it was like my first like it was my first winter
[00:51:08] trail I guess that's like more or less what I mean like it wasn't my first trail run
[00:51:12] but it was my first time trailing in the snow yeah which everybody says it's like a whole
[00:51:17] different game which it is it is night and day difference yeah but you know I'm watching
[00:51:23] these cars like instead of like you know taking trail slow like normal they hit this snowbank
[00:51:29] as hard as they can just getting through it they're like all right cool I'm just going
[00:51:32] for it I was like all right cool I'm gonna do it you know but I hit it and again I
[00:51:38] didn't have the tires to be playing around and I stalled I stalled in it and I was like
[00:51:45] I was like oh no I was like no we just started I was like do not let this be where I get stuck
[00:51:51] you know so I like started it real quick threw it in reverse got out really easily and I was
[00:51:55] like all right cool and then I just punched it and got through it and I was like all right cool
[00:52:00] that was a little nerve-racking you know first snow experience I was like okay cool
[00:52:05] I guess you know this thing does better than I thought but here we go like this is going to
[00:52:11] be interesting but we ended up digging out two cars that day one actually I think both of yeah
[00:52:18] both of them were outbacks one of them was an older outback that he he's pretty crazy like
[00:52:25] you know um I don't know if you've seen his uh Instagram at all but it's battle wagon
[00:52:31] yeah he's got the uh the like what is that like the bright red like paint job but
[00:52:39] it was pretty cool he cut his bumper and he had like skids on it and like
[00:52:43] you know he's he's a full-sen person like that just is how he is like we always joke with him
[00:52:47] we're like if Ben can do it nobody here has excuses to not do it yeah like and so he
[00:52:54] full sends it and he got stuck and we're like oh here we go like this is gonna be fun but I
[00:52:59] was in front of him so it was like trying to get down to help him we're like wrapped
[00:53:06] around because there's so many of us were like wrapped around him up the hill so we're like
[00:53:10] watching it from across the mountain on the other side and like he had um all which he runs
[00:53:17] um his tag is the mountain roo yeah yeah I don't know if you've seen that one he was sitting
[00:53:24] back there and they helped dig him out they put these recovery boards down where he did get
[00:53:28] stuck and there's a video of him just like full sanding it over the recovery boards just
[00:53:34] blow him through that just to get through it so it was that was pretty crazy to see like
[00:53:40] because you know it's what's in the trail like any other day is a very easy trail but
[00:53:44] like I said it's a lot of hidden rocks and stuff so like I think that was probably the
[00:53:49] sketches experience I had with no skip plates which it was just it was weird because like
[00:53:55] you know you can't see what's underneath the snow until it's too late so I definitely like
[00:54:01] there was an outback that was in front of me and I joked with them I was like you guys are my
[00:54:05] savior like because we were about the same ride height they were like maybe like a little bit
[00:54:10] taller but I could see what they were hitting because they had skids and they were just hitting
[00:54:15] it and I was like cool I can see exactly where you're gonna bottom out I can see that I need
[00:54:21] to go away from that and kind of like kind of avoid it kind of kind of like a guide
[00:54:28] kind of like a guide oh yeah yeah I know it's nice following people so you can see where to go or
[00:54:34] where not to go and and I saw on your post where you said now I don't have to worry about what's
[00:54:39] hidden under the snow so now that makes sense yeah yeah that was like I think that was the
[00:54:46] biggest like I wish I had a skid plate at moment was that trip that trip kind of it
[00:54:51] didn't ruin snow wheeling for me but it definitely like it definitely made it like a
[00:54:55] whole different thing or else like okay cool I'm never doing this again until I have skid plates
[00:55:00] because I did it once I definitely shouldn't have been doing it and you don't get lucky
[00:55:06] twice like that I was like nope I'm done I'm not doing this again yeah so how long after
[00:55:11] that was it that you got skid plates so that was February and I got my skid plates in like
[00:55:17] October okay and the biggest reason behind that was I got a new job and I was working
[00:55:22] six days a week about 12 to 13 hours a day and so I didn't do I didn't do much other than like
[00:55:29] car shows and stuff because I didn't have the time to prep for like a trail or like
[00:55:35] plan it out like anytime I did anything trail it was like cool we're going to go down
[00:55:39] to rampart which is like an hour hour and a half from where I am is rampart wasn't like
[00:55:45] isn't that right there behind garden of the gods yeah it's over by there you have like
[00:55:50] woodland park deckers rainbow falls all that kind of area right there that's about an hour
[00:55:57] hour and a half from my place so like that's usually the go-to if we're going to go
[00:56:03] off-roading just small trail runs for the day yeah my first off-road experience was on
[00:56:09] rampart road up there behind garden of the gods and then that was on I think Sunday no
[00:56:17] that was on Monday I think and then Tuesday I went out to woodland park and yeah woodland
[00:56:25] park's pretty crazy that was so fun there's when we went in there's like this little
[00:56:31] small hill that you have to go up and over and I was watching everybody else I don't know
[00:56:38] if I think I was at the back and I start trying and this is my first experience driving
[00:56:45] off-road first time driving off-road in a manual and I'm trying to get up and over this little hump
[00:56:51] and this little hill and my son was like what's that smell I'm like that's my clutch
[00:56:57] because I didn't know how to do it and so you know I finally figured out how to navigate
[00:57:02] getting over that and a few more and then I finally got it but I was like this is a little
[00:57:09] a little interesting but it was a lot of fun man I love that trail I like too that that trail
[00:57:15] was like the surface of it was just like flat in the sense that if it's just like dirt so you
[00:57:20] can drive a little faster on it you know until you get to a hill because like so many of the
[00:57:26] trails that I've been on since then are like gravel trails and rocky so it's not as easy
[00:57:32] to go as fast and I don't know going up there to Colorado just spoiled me and ruined me because
[00:57:39] then I had to come back to Houston and I'm like what am I gonna do now yeah I mean that
[00:57:44] definitely makes sense that's kind of why like I was explaining like being in a group that's
[00:57:50] big down there like you get those like speed up slow down moments where it's like if everybody
[00:57:55] wants to like all of a sudden be like go fast go fast go fast then you're like okay it's
[00:58:00] like all right hold on let me let me get going and then you kind of you get into the groove and
[00:58:06] then they slow down and you're like okay now I gotta slow down in an automatic it's effortless
[00:58:12] and a manual it's kind of like all right let me think about this like let me not try to
[00:58:17] like burn up my clutch make anything weird like I'm just gonna try to just drive this as smooth
[00:58:21] as I can without making it a worse bumpy drive for myself yeah I've never driven off
[00:58:28] road in an automatic so I don't even know what it's like well okay that's not true
[00:58:31] I've driven through snow in an automatic and that was a lot of fun I've driven yeah one two three
[00:58:41] yeah three different cars in the snow two Subarus and one Tacoma going out of town
[00:58:47] and uh so I'm super thankful to have the experience of driving through snow and when
[00:58:51] I went out to South Lake Tahoe I met up with Subi runner and he let my son drive it and my
[00:58:59] son got to experience driving through a lot of snow and uh now I think he really wants a Subaru
[00:59:07] yeah no I had a bunch of fun growing up driving through the snow in my Bronco
[00:59:12] and then going from the Bronco to a Subaru was weird because like
[00:59:16] the Bronco drove like a tank but the Subaru did too and it was weird like the Bronco drove
[00:59:23] like a tank but it was heavy you know it was just like it didn't like it didn't stop as easily
[00:59:31] like it was just weird it was like a big car in the snow and then like the Subaru it handles
[00:59:36] like a tank but it's nimble like it was a lot more responsive it was just so night and day
[00:59:43] it was crazy yeah so like getting out where are some of the like favorite spots that you like to
[00:59:49] go and hit up trails or explore so it'd definitely be Rampart just because of it being so close
[00:59:57] I really enjoyed Switzerland just because of the view that was really really cool like
[01:00:04] you know that was just it was really cool especially in the group that we had like
[01:00:10] we had a lot of fun we were taking pictures across the way like one of the guys that we off-road
[01:00:14] with his name is Eric Stel he actually runs off-roading Super Cruiser Colorado oh nice he
[01:00:19] got a really cool picture of my car across the like away from him and he kept sending all of
[01:00:25] those pictures which was super cool like I wish I wouldn't have been as not necessarily
[01:00:31] stressed but nervous through that trail because then I could have like enjoyed it a little bit
[01:00:36] more pictures like you know the kind of view as he was just super you know oh I do this all the
[01:00:41] time like this is nothing you know and it was really cool to have that experience like
[01:00:48] you know at the top we all met we like went like this little like picnic area we all just
[01:00:53] kind of hung out had lunch like it was just it was really cool but you know it's hard like
[01:00:59] I can't really say that I've been out on a lot of trails but Rampart's nice just because
[01:01:04] one is close and like there is difficult stuff in there because you can go into like Rainbow Falls
[01:01:10] and stuff where it gets a little bit more technical and more big vehicle worthy but you
[01:01:17] can kind of stick in the rampart and you can kind of have a little bit of like what I call
[01:01:22] like the stretch the leg kind of thing like it's not difficult but it's just enough to
[01:01:27] stretch like okay cool I'm gonna push my car a little bit like here's a little stretch for
[01:01:32] it yeah I experienced getting high centered for the first time in Rampart because we got like way
[01:01:38] up to the top and there was this spot that was like just I mean it was just like up down up
[01:01:44] down little short little hills and or mounds and I get up and over this one and and I was there
[01:01:51] with uh with Juan and Chris Juan previously Java Wagon and Chris Shadow Rue and they were spotting
[01:01:57] me and trying to show me how to get through and I get over this one spot but it was so steep
[01:02:03] going down the other side that my bumper was hitting the ground you know and like there
[01:02:08] wasn't really any way for me to get over that spot unless I just sent it but my car was still
[01:02:15] you know really really new at that point and so they had to like help me back out and
[01:02:21] I got high center trying to back out so they had to pull out the traction boards but like
[01:02:25] even when they went over it you know they were lifted they both had outbacks they were lifted
[01:02:31] and they both hit their bumpers Juan had a steel bumper and Chris had just his regular bumper
[01:02:37] but he doesn't care and he just hit it and it flexed and he just kept going but
[01:02:41] but yeah I mean that was there's such a fun trail and the view from up there is beautiful too
[01:02:48] yeah you look into all the valleys and stuff too and it's it's definitely different like
[01:02:54] once you get up on certain roads like there's Dakin Road and if you follow the Dakin Road up
[01:02:59] you get like right into this valley of Dakin Mountain and you get up on the side and it is
[01:03:04] crazy to like look over it because it's just just miles and miles of just treetop like it's
[01:03:10] crazy to see it yeah yeah it was uh it was nice I enjoyed it I want to go back but
[01:03:16] so like is there are there any spots you know because we see like for me I mean all of us
[01:03:22] see people posting from all over the place but are there any spots that you know of that you've
[01:03:28] seen people going to that would be like a bucket list spot that you would love to get out to and
[01:03:33] explore I really like the two big trails that are up on my list because I'd really like to
[01:03:40] get into Cinnamon Gulch and then I want to do Engineers Pass which Engineers Pass is
[01:03:47] it's a little bit more rocky so it'll be a little bit more technical and I definitely think
[01:03:52] I'd probably want to wait until I get my lift so it's it's kind of on the back burner for now
[01:03:59] but that's definitely one of my big ones that I want to do is I want to do engineer pass like
[01:04:04] just two weeks ago we ended up going or not even two weeks ago I think it was like a week
[01:04:10] ago actually we went up into Slaughter House up in Bailey to go get some friends out of
[01:04:17] a stuck spot he took his Glavator and got stuck and so you know kind of going back to the whole
[01:04:26] I watched my friend pull out at Tacoma I was like oh I'll take my car up there watch this
[01:04:31] here's my redemption moment and we got out there I didn't realize like the pictures they
[01:04:35] took like they were good pictures but like you couldn't tell how steep that like he was
[01:04:40] resting on the side like his whole car was against a tree and it didn't look like it was
[01:04:46] really that bad until we got up there plus he said it was just continuing to slide as we were
[01:04:50] getting up there so we got up there and I was like yep that's not gonna happen but
[01:04:57] getting up there it was like it was I'd probably say in spots it was probably about a foot and
[01:05:02] a quarter foot and a half of snow that was kind of like cool now I have my skid plate
[01:05:08] so here's my like now I get to experience that it's a little less stressful like
[01:05:13] off-roading against snow with kids because you don't have to be super stressed but like
[01:05:17] you kind of get up there and you're like we were pressing for time because I had just got awful work
[01:05:22] at like 5 30 and we're trying to get down there before the sun got down that way we weren't
[01:05:27] playing in the dark and trying to dig it out you know I was in the intentions of okay cool
[01:05:34] this isn't that bad but get up there see how bad it actually was like all right cool we're
[01:05:40] just gonna take you guys and we're gonna go home and then they got like a colorado recovery
[01:05:44] group to come up there and help them get it out the next day oh that's good that's good
[01:05:49] speaking of colorado you started all around colorado so what was your intention with that
[01:05:57] and like what is your mission with that group so it's kind of again it was like I started
[01:06:04] that like right towards the end of 23 into 24 which is when I started my new job
[01:06:12] or well end of 22 in the 2030 and so in 23 I started my new job and it was kind of hard like
[01:06:19] I was working six days a week 13 hours a day and I ended up having a fallout with
[01:06:24] a friend that helped me create that group and it kind of kind of fell apart like
[01:06:31] my goal was to kind of like make it a friendly environment friendly invite like anybody if any
[01:06:37] kind of car can come like because with my car like I view my car as an all-around car I go
[01:06:42] to car shows I go off-roading I daily it I it's kind of that's where I got the name of
[01:06:48] all around because it was like I want to you know show off like how all around I am and kind
[01:06:57] of like encourage people that like you don't have to do everything to be invited but like
[01:07:03] I'll be there to support you guys like I would go out to events that like you know just like
[01:07:09] low class like that was a big one for me or like I am going to stick out like a sore thumb
[01:07:15] I am in a off-road car that is at a car show for lowered cars you know low cars and
[01:07:23] it was a little crazy I know I was talking to Diego the one that hosted it and he said because
[01:07:29] it was a you didn't get like it wasn't like an everybody show it was like you had to like
[01:07:33] register and be accepted and so when they accepted me they got a bunch of like
[01:07:41] bunch of people well you accepted this car but you didn't accept mine and I was like
[01:07:47] yeah it was one of those or just it created this huge weird thing and then you know Diego
[01:07:52] put me up next to the front stage and that was definitely like oh here we go now you have us
[01:08:00] me in this it was a lifted F-150 that we both went up together and they put us up front
[01:08:08] stage because he had a tent I had my awning so we like set up this little camp setup
[01:08:14] and like Diego is like well this is we want to encourage other people to come to this like
[01:08:21] you know but it was it was weird like so I just all around came to play like with that like
[01:08:28] it came to play with like I want this all-around group that we all go do everything a little bit
[01:08:34] of everything and so it was hard like I still like maybe want to circle around to it and
[01:08:41] kind of get it back up and going but like it's just been with everything that happened with
[01:08:47] you know my good friend that like we kind of had a fallout it was hard to kind of have
[01:08:54] him fall out and then like try to take everything on it just was too much but
[01:08:59] one of my best friends that like part of the reason that I was into Subaru is
[01:09:04] she runs a group called simply subies okay and simply society I have you heard of them
[01:09:12] I think so but I'm not 100 sure it sounds familiar
[01:09:17] so she hit me up at the beginning of this year and told me that she was gonna in the next year
[01:09:23] or two be moving out of state and she asked me if I would take over simply since I'm
[01:09:30] one of the founding members and I was like yeah I want to take it over like that's
[01:09:34] you know a group that encouraged me to be in the Subaru community like
[01:09:38] I didn't know the Subaru and I was going to simply subies
[01:09:42] and we were all kind of like hanging out with the Bronco and like
[01:09:45] part of the reason I got it Subaru was the encouragement from them but
[01:09:50] it was it was weird like so I don't know all around is kind of in a
[01:09:55] in a weird limbo state right now where it's like am I really going to come back around
[01:10:01] to this or do I just take all the passion that I have for it and run simply subies
[01:10:07] and simply society the way that I wanted to see all around yeah that's a kind of a
[01:10:13] tough decision and something to think about but it's uh I guess you've got some time
[01:10:19] yeah you know thankfully she's not moving for a year or two so it gives me some time to really
[01:10:24] like oh it's beginning go what do I want to do you know yeah yeah so you said you attended
[01:10:31] low class Colorado and you know which was you were like I feel out of place but
[01:10:36] and you said did you attend other car shows what are what are some of the other ones you've
[01:10:40] attended so I grew up going to Banyamere Speedway up in Morrison and they do car shows like they
[01:10:48] do the uh KPBR uh rock and roll car show they do like TFI street tuner mayhem do all these
[01:10:57] car shows that are like it's pretty open like it's just like buy a ticket show your card you
[01:11:02] know like and so we've always done that with like simply subies and simply society and stuff
[01:11:08] and so those are the car shows that I've really gone to is like 90% Banyamere car shows every
[01:11:14] once in a while like I did low class I've done um a couple of small like you know cars
[01:11:24] and coffees like cars and bobo with minimoos like I've done small stuff like that like
[01:11:32] so my bigger car shows probably be at Banyamere okay and who are the like whenever you're
[01:11:37] getting out to trails who are some of the people that you get out with the most
[01:11:41] I mean is it usually like a certain group of people I mean the biggest one that I go with
[01:11:47] is my roommate you know granite he's got another cross track that actually is lifted so
[01:11:53] it's kind of nice like I know I am like okay cool he'll go anywhere with me like he knows
[01:11:59] I won't take him out of his comfort zone because this is really like his first off-road off-road
[01:12:03] car uh he had a pathfinder that he had it built to go do some fun stuff but nothing like
[01:12:12] crazy so he didn't really get to do much with it but like this one he goes with me so me and
[01:12:18] him that that's like the number one and then I'll go with off-roading Subarus Colorado
[01:12:24] because I hate to say it but like Mount Roo out here like Victor is an amazing dude like
[01:12:31] that group Mount Roo is like unbelievable but like out here in Colorado like Mount Roo is kind
[01:12:38] of dead like off-roading Subarus of Colorado run by Eric Stel he he kind of took over it
[01:12:46] like everybody loves going to his events he's super friendly super knowledgeable he actually
[01:12:51] owns his own shop too it's like off-road wow yeah so he he builds these cars and then takes
[01:12:59] these people out to teach them how to off-road and stuff and it's it's just it's crazy it's
[01:13:04] a really cool atmosphere so I'll go with like him a lot and then I know my good friend
[01:13:12] Gustav he's got a Demon Slayer, Atasha Outback Wilderness got Demon Slayer apps all over it
[01:13:22] and stuff I'll go with him and then you have Minx which is I can't ever remember her Instagram
[01:13:32] handle because she keeps changing it but it's basically like her her last name
[01:13:40] but she's got the Impreza that's like got all the stars all over it oh yeah I don't know if
[01:13:46] you've seen that one but I'll go with her with her husband he's got a Crosstrek he's got a
[01:13:52] 22 Crosstrek Sport and so we'll all go out that's like the main group you know then
[01:13:58] back when me and Ben were talking the one that has the uh the Battle Wagon we I would
[01:14:05] go out with him a lot you know that was that was the first that me and him would go out all
[01:14:12] the time he's called from Rampart hey I'm sending you a pin if you guys want to come it's like oh
[01:14:19] okay so that's why I used to leave all my gear in my car all the time I just leave everything
[01:14:24] in my car because it like I had friends that would just randomly hit me up hey you want to
[01:14:28] come down it's like okay like sure I'm on my way like I'll just leave it in the car that
[01:14:34] way I don't have to sit there and go home and then come down did your girlfriend go out with you
[01:14:42] yeah kind of I kind of scared her in Rainbow Falls once pretty good it was when I when I
[01:14:49] was first getting used to off-roading this Subaru we got to a spot where we were like
[01:14:55] we had to have been like 90% of the way through this trail and then we got to
[01:14:59] like the end of the trail and it was like a mudslide had gone through and it just was
[01:15:05] like crazy like it literally looked like nothing of this whole trail like they're like oh that's a
[01:15:11] three four trail you get to that and it looks like it was like a tent like there's no way
[01:15:17] anything could get through here other than like crazy modified off-road cars so we turned around
[01:15:23] and coming down we had to go downhill next to a tree that had like these really thick roots
[01:15:29] and going up wasn't so bad because you can kind of like you're not fighting with gravity pulling
[01:15:35] you down the hill so oh yeah coming down I hit the front and I bounced the front off the ground
[01:15:43] and then I slid because you know I did I only had two wheels on the ground at that point so I
[01:15:47] split the front slammed down and then the back hit the root and I like bounced down the rest of
[01:15:54] the hill and she I look over she's all teared like I joked with her she had like running lines of
[01:16:02] tears on her shirt and I haven't gotten her to go on a trail with me ever since so yeah
[01:16:09] she'd like so if someone came around and I was telling her I was like yeah it's gonna be all
[01:16:13] cliffside she's like nope okay have fun like not happening yeah so if it's in rampart and
[01:16:20] it's like it's somewhere that I know is moderate I'll tell her like okay cool this is one you can
[01:16:24] go to but most of the time she's like yeah you just go have fun like just go do your thing
[01:16:29] that's good that's good that she's supportive oh yeah absolutely yeah it's important to have
[01:16:35] that so uh let's see what I was gonna ask oh yeah how'd you find out about ride or die
[01:16:42] design and impulse designs so impulse designs I found out because of the Subaru community like
[01:16:52] everybody kind of like posting stuff I saw he was starting to do the biggest one that I saw
[01:16:57] first was the key vinyls when he was doing like the key cut little vinyls that were like
[01:17:03] for the key fobs oh yeah add color that was like the first thing I saw and I was like
[01:17:08] oh that's pretty cool and so then I started looking at his page and then he started doing
[01:17:14] the like overlays to like fit directly onto like the Subaru emblems on the hatch and stuff
[01:17:21] to where you could add color and I was like this is kind of neat and then he hit up the
[01:17:27] whole like thing that he like was talking to people about he's like I'm gonna do
[01:17:31] like trading cards kind of like how Pokemon cards are but with cars I was like
[01:17:36] okay well you got me like I mean because I'm a huge Pokemon fan and it was pretty cool like
[01:17:43] it that was like the biggest way that I met him like it was like he found you know the
[01:17:48] same thing kind of like your daughter did with like my cross tricks name being Absol like
[01:17:53] he saw that and he's like you wouldn't happen to collect Pokemon cards would you and I'm like
[01:17:57] yep and that's where it just took off because he wanted people to like bounce ideas off of
[01:18:02] and everything and he actually let me be the first car of series two that he did which is
[01:18:08] really cool because then I did like a like a release video of like here's the first cards
[01:18:13] that came out like with the new QR code with the different like font and formats and all the
[01:18:20] different like designs that he had that he did with it like it was pretty cool but like
[01:18:26] I know he's been going through a lot of life issues lately and just yeah you know it'd be
[01:18:32] really cool to see it all pick back up but I mean you know I get it I just like all around
[01:18:37] like I had it going it was great we were doing dinner meets like every week and then life hit
[01:18:42] me and it kind of stopped so like I totally get where he's at like you know it's awesome
[01:18:49] I support him 100% but you know you gotta take care of yourself make sure your kids
[01:18:54] you know if his kids are his life you know make sure your families all take care of and
[01:19:00] that's the biggest priority so yeah that was impulse and then jungle box actually led me to
[01:19:08] ride or die it was one of those things like Matt is really good about like posting things
[01:19:14] about other people like oh support this local business support that that's how I met
[01:19:20] needle as well like he just posts them on his story and I saw the rider die one I was like
[01:19:27] oh that's kind of neat I was like I want stickers in my car and I had had artwork done previously
[01:19:34] by petrolhead which they do awesome art as well but I was I'm huge for like supporting
[01:19:42] local businesses because I'm like what better to have than a fully supported like
[01:19:49] Colorado car like I want to support car businesses and so I hit up Nicole and I was like hey like
[01:19:56] how does this all work like what's the process she explained everything like amazingly
[01:20:01] and it was just very transparent which made it that much better like it wasn't like all these
[01:20:06] like you know like artist things where they kind of like they like do the art now like yeah
[01:20:13] well you can use this website to like do it and like she really does the quality control on like
[01:20:21] doing it all in house and it was just it was cool it's a whole different atmosphere plus she
[01:20:26] was super friendly to work with too like yeah you know what I was telling you when I was
[01:20:32] telling you about her I was like this is somebody that I would vouch for like this
[01:20:37] company is great awesome work great quality I actually got to meet her a little bit after she
[01:20:43] did my stickers at a band of mirror event so it was kind of cool it was just a full circle thing
[01:20:50] yeah I mean I know that whenever I reached out to her and we started chatting and everything
[01:20:55] and got her on the podcast it you know it's like she's saying that I'm a real person you
[01:21:00] know it's not like these because you get hit up by so many of like graphic artists you know
[01:21:06] that want to like do your car and then you scroll through their page and it's like
[01:21:11] it's this one art yeah and stolen art not real stuff like yeah so she's just she's been pretty
[01:21:19] amazing and I know that she's having a lot of fun with it she's filling up her garage which
[01:21:23] is really cool which I think that whole concept is awesome and she's making a lot of people
[01:21:28] out there happy yeah and I got to get new stickers done by her now that I'm
[01:21:35] actually put like all train tires to my car and I've gotten everything kind of cleaned up
[01:21:40] but I told her that I want to hit her up this year probably towards my birthday because I'm
[01:21:46] going to try to get all my stickers redone all of my stickers are off my car right now it is
[01:21:50] so weird yeah I took everything off like I hit 36 stickers on my car oh wow I took it all off
[01:21:59] except for the one all around Colorado sticker like everything that I had the wrap that was on
[01:22:04] my roof rack everything all that came off wow would you do that for it for I did it because
[01:22:10] it was like one it was starting to fade because in Colorado stickers get beat very bad
[01:22:18] especially holographic stickers holographic stickers are literally hell and higher in the
[01:22:24] higher elevations because once they start to fade they crack they splinter like they're just
[01:22:30] terrible and I just I pulled them all off I was like all right cool it's time for a refresh
[01:22:35] like it's been two years it's time to just take them all off and clean up yeah that's always
[01:22:40] good oh especially with like my sponsors now like I've been trying to figure out exactly how
[01:22:48] I want to do my windows and everything this time because I'm like I'm I like to get all of
[01:22:52] my stickers together then put them on that way they don't look like just chaotically everywhere
[01:22:59] like I like to be able to see out my back window like you know because even the stickers
[01:23:05] that I had in my back window I had them all like tucked against the panels or like yeah
[01:23:10] the black of the windows where all the glue is yeah that way it was like when you look out
[01:23:15] the back window you can barely see the stickers you see like maybe like a letter of two each
[01:23:22] sticker yeah I know what you're talking about yeah I did a refresh too but it's a it's good to do that
[01:23:31] yeah what would you say about your cross-trek best matches your personality
[01:23:37] I mean that's kind of hard I mean I think the biggest thing would just be like the all around
[01:23:41] thing just because like I'm it's a little bit all around like it's not like heavy off-road or
[01:23:49] heavy like show car like it's like the perfect like middle ground like if I want to go to an
[01:23:55] event and show up in an event go okay cool I want my car to be judged I don't have to be like
[01:24:01] okay I have to fix this do this but it's also not a car that it's like if I want to go
[01:24:07] off-roading randomly at the end of the night like I can just go do it like it's like the
[01:24:12] perfect and I kind of I have a very wide assortment of friends and so I get to do
[01:24:20] a little bit of everything so I get to go do all sorts of different hobbies I get into
[01:24:26] little hobbies here and there and it's it's just that's kind of my biggest thing about
[01:24:33] my car that I would say is close to my personality it's just the all-aroundness of it
[01:24:38] and then if you could describe your cross-track in one word what would it be
[01:24:43] all around yeah well I guess technically that's two words but that's fine okay now you're
[01:24:51] disqualified yeah disqualified I'm like oh just kidding I don't know just I mean
[01:25:00] you can pick like yeah I guess one phrase I guess you could call that would be that would
[01:25:06] be my one phrase okay that would be all around you know yeah and you know I as as I'm sitting
[01:25:14] here asking you these questions I completely forgot at the very beginning because we just like
[01:25:20] started off like really really quickly but I forgot to ask the most important question
[01:25:25] whether you prefer waffles or pancakes I was waiting for that question I was like let's see
[01:25:31] how long it takes for him to realize that he didn't ask it yeah and so me and my roommate
[01:25:37] were joking before it because you know I like when you sent me the whole like questions like
[01:25:41] here's some of the questions I may ask you we were joking or like holy crap he's gonna ask
[01:25:47] you if you like waffles or pancakes I was like dude I'm a huge waffle guy like I make
[01:25:51] waffles all the time like I'm just I don't know like pancakes are just so simple you
[01:25:57] do so much more with waffles I agree I agree I'm pancakes but okay whatever man
[01:26:06] do you uh do you think you'll always own a Subaru absolutely I will always own a Subaru
[01:26:14] I've all everybody in my my household so me my girlfriend and my roommate we all own Subarus
[01:26:22] nice we've all owned Subarus the whole time we lived here she's had the same Subaru the whole
[01:26:28] time I've had two Subarus living here and my roommate has had two Subarus living here
[01:26:33] what is your girlfriend drive she drives a Forester it's a 2004 okay nice nice so
[01:26:41] eventually once we get her out of her suit loan debt and get everything kind of
[01:26:48] handled on that we want to get her into a newer Forester or in a sense
[01:26:52] in a sense like her dream car oh nice yeah you can make that happen that would be good
[01:26:58] yeah how would you say that your Subaru and being part of the community has changed your life
[01:27:06] I like I literally can't even picture myself before I was in the Subaru community
[01:27:12] like I've been in the Subaru community ever since I turned 18 but like it's hard to like
[01:27:20] look at how I was before and after being in the Subaru community but like I definitely know
[01:27:26] it was a very positive change in my life like this community is literally unbeatable
[01:27:33] like there is nothing like it you know and like listening to all your podcasts and everybody
[01:27:39] else like talk about how you know how open arms this community is and stuff like I will say the
[01:27:46] biggest person that I have been influenced by about the whole being super open about your
[01:27:52] build like because like I'll tell anybody anything about my build like I'm very anti-gate
[01:27:56] keep I don't care if you want to know something I'll tell you exactly how I did it
[01:28:00] but his name is Michael Twigg he's the one that runs the cross tricks and stuff page okay
[01:28:07] he is a dude awesome great personality super supportive and I got to video chat him once
[01:28:17] because he had a question about my car the guy got a question about your car and I was like
[01:28:21] nice okay I was like do you want to call me and he's like yeah I'll call you I was like
[01:28:25] or do you want to facetime me and I can just show you and he's like oh that'd be kind of
[01:28:30] cool so we yeah so I got to show him my car and it was like really cool because
[01:28:36] I kind of idled the way he was you know being so big in the Subaru community I was like
[01:28:41] I want to be like Michael Twigg this is so cool like he's a huge influencer he created
[01:28:45] this group for everybody just to enjoy I was like I want to be just like him and it's just
[01:28:53] I don't know like this community like you you'll never find anything similar ever yeah like
[01:29:00] yeah I don't think so either it's it yeah it's been it's been fun I told my daughter she's
[01:29:07] been collecting a lot of followers today and I said you're gonna you're gonna find that
[01:29:12] everybody is is very very cool in this community and and uh you know I'm excited because now
[01:29:18] I get to share that with her so that'd be fun yeah and you know she'll have support too
[01:29:24] oh yeah especially like all the 24s that she get hit up to like ask for advice like there's so
[01:29:30] many people that are already taking these 24s and doing some pretty crazy stuff with them
[01:29:35] quickly too so yeah there's not gonna be there's not gonna be a shortage of help or knowledge
[01:29:41] she's gonna have plenty oh yeah yep so here's the get to know the person behind the
[01:29:47] account segment but who is Payton oh I am a 25 year old just that I grew up in Colorado
[01:30:00] I joke I literally moved one whole zip code my whole life one single digit so yeah I moved
[01:30:09] one single digit in the 25 years of me being alive and so I mean I've always been around
[01:30:15] in Colorado like I grew up playing football I was huge into football not so much anymore
[01:30:22] I definitely think football was a sport that I enjoyed playing more than watching
[01:30:28] so and then I'm a huge video game nerd huge in RC cars like that's another thing that I do
[01:30:35] I have 36 built RC cars and they're like wow the model grade RC car is like your tracks
[01:30:42] of cars your axial like crawlers like I have and then like the Kyosho mini z's
[01:30:49] nice I have like some of the like the race spec I even have a foam track that I have with lap
[01:30:56] timers that I could set up in my house that's cool so yeah so I mean that's that's basically
[01:31:03] who I am like I'm a very I am I'm a softy I might come off as a big tough guy but not
[01:31:10] really I've definitely always been that person that by anybody needs anything they call me even
[01:31:17] though I'll give them so much crap for it just like going up to go receive my friends up in
[01:31:22] slaughterhouse I'm like I could be sleeping right now I could be relaxing you know I'd
[01:31:27] give them crap but like you know it makes it means the world to me that like they think
[01:31:33] yeah just like Gustav the one that runs yeah atasher wrapped the wilderness he called me
[01:31:42] too when he got stuck up in woodland park you know it's just I I like to be that supportive
[01:31:49] person like I enjoy people calling me and going hey I need you like because it just it feels good
[01:31:57] it's just very nice yeah and we know you're a big pokemon fan yes I guess I missed that part
[01:32:04] yes I'm a huge pokemon fan nerd all through my blood everywhere like I have pokemon stuff in
[01:32:11] every corner of my house in my car at my work desk everywhere yep I've seen that before
[01:32:19] not with you but other people you know so yeah what would you say is a favorite
[01:32:24] memory from your childhood so I can't narrow it down to like one memory but like memories
[01:32:32] like kind of like the thing that I enjoyed the most was growing up like going and hanging out
[01:32:37] with my Nana and playing video games with her and then we used to go bike ride up to
[01:32:44] this place in Sheridan it's called um river point we'd take like a bike ride up there and
[01:32:52] go have lunch like that was probably my favorite thing to do because the kids go over there and
[01:32:59] just hang out with her yeah that's yeah I uh I miss hanging out with my grandma I was talking
[01:33:05] to my girlfriend about that or somebody the other day because like my grandparents aren't
[01:33:10] around anymore and uh you know it's been a while it's been since 2008 so it's been a
[01:33:17] long time but I still think about them and you know glad that I was able to spend the amount
[01:33:23] of time with them than I was yeah grandparents are cool yeah my my Nana always gives me crap
[01:33:31] about my car because she'll you know I craft my windshield when I craft my windshield she goes
[01:33:38] this car is too pretty to be doing this kind of stuff to it you can't go take it out on
[01:33:42] these trails I'm like what I that's what I want to do and then like that's my my grandma so my Nana
[01:33:50] on my dad's side but then my grandparents on my mom's side
[01:33:54] my grandpa has a 19 cross track that he bought because of me oh that's awesome we both have
[01:34:00] white they're both white cross tracks his is a limited dose so it's cbt but um it was
[01:34:07] funny my mom she thought it was hilarious because they were kind of going through like
[01:34:10] their will and like you know what they're gonna leave everybody if my mom found out
[01:34:16] that they're gonna leave me the cross track and they're like here he has one why why do they
[01:34:20] need to because that's what I want to do well and I always go over there and I help them with
[01:34:26] it and he helps me with mine too though like I have like weird stuff like when I cut my
[01:34:30] brackets for my accident trouble I've never done like aluminum cutting like that like so
[01:34:36] and we actually like threaded into the aluminum to like thread the brackets and stuff so I was
[01:34:41] like hey can you help me with this because I really don't know like this is above me
[01:34:48] yeah that's good it's nice to have that help and be able to do that stuff together that's
[01:34:53] fun yeah so what is it that you do for a living so I do wholesale parts so I sell like
[01:35:03] body parts and like stuff to like shops for like like vehicle repairs like that's kind of what
[01:35:12] I do I was a parts manager for eight months which was very eye-opening because you know
[01:35:21] I definitely found out that I really liked the wholesale side because it's not it's not like
[01:35:26] dealing with a normal customer like you are dealing with somebody that is also working
[01:35:31] as well so it's kind of it's fun it's more fun like you can kind of joke this is like way less
[01:35:38] serious like it's just it's like having a co-worker that you make like that's how you
[01:35:45] do your job as you work with the co-worker like it's kind of weird but I really enjoy it
[01:35:51] like yeah I work for Toyota and it's next door to the super dealership that I bought my super at
[01:36:00] and so I actually applied at the Subaru dealership and the Toyota manager hit me up first
[01:36:07] and he was like you should come work for me and it's cool I never thought I'd actually like
[01:36:12] Toyota as a brand as much as I did but they're very similar to Subaru that's good do you have
[01:36:19] a dream job? So I would love to like I always tell everybody is my dream job is like my
[01:36:31] retirement job like I want to have like I want to do like custom fabrication or like
[01:36:37] custom builds for cars so like kind of what Eric does like I guess what I call my dream job
[01:36:44] like I would love to have like a shop it's like a specialty shop
[01:36:50] so I'll do like just off-road cars like off-road vehicle repairs and just that kind of stuff
[01:36:57] yeah that's a good dream so you said the kind of already went through it but do what are
[01:37:03] like some of your other hobbies? So my other hobbies you know video games
[01:37:10] and then the other the big one is the Pokemon and then my RC cars too I mean those are like the
[01:37:19] top three that kind of just cycle in a circle like I definitely bounce around between the
[01:37:27] three of them pretty frequently. Yeah those are good hobbies and then what is something that
[01:37:37] makes you want to get out of bed every day? I always joke that I gotta get out of bed to
[01:37:44] go make money to build my car so I mean I definitely I like I have my dream car the
[01:37:52] cross-track is pretty much like my dream car and so getting out of bed like my biggest thing
[01:37:59] is like I'm very happy with where I am in life like I'm happy with my family happy that
[01:38:04] like all I have all my friends like my roommate like my roommates like my brother
[01:38:09] so it's just and then my girlfriend like she's super supportive but it's definitely
[01:38:16] I would say them in my car like kind of all the mix like I'm just very happy with where
[01:38:21] I am in life. That's good man that's good to hear that's very important and what is
[01:38:27] something that makes you want to stay in bed? Late night car meets because I stay out way too
[01:38:34] late yeah so when I host car meets for simply you know like we usually start them at like
[01:38:43] usually around like eight o'clock and I always joke with everybody because they're like I don't
[01:38:47] get off till nine I don't I'm like you will not miss us I promise like the other night
[01:38:52] I literally was a Friday night and I had to work Saturday morning so Saturday morning I have
[01:38:58] to get up at six to be at work at eight and literally like I didn't get home until one in
[01:39:05] the morning so those are my I just want to stay in bed after this or the Banyamere
[01:39:14] or the Banyamere car shows that started like one one Banyamere was around they'd start it
[01:39:20] like we'd get up there at four in the morning so I'd be up at like three in the morning washing
[01:39:25] my car and then we wouldn't get back home until like eight and those were very long next days
[01:39:33] yeah it is a long day what would be your best bit of advice to give to someone about anything?
[01:39:45] My best advice is definitely like don't be afraid to go out and do something that you've
[01:39:52] wanted to do like don't be so skeptical you know because you get all these people that are like
[01:40:00] oh I wish I did that but half the time the reason they wish they did it is because they
[01:40:04] talk themselves out of it. I agree there's always something that you
[01:40:11] want to do that you're not sure if you should do and yeah somebody else said that too
[01:40:17] it was uh Missy and she said just do the thing so it's very very seriously yeah
[01:40:26] so that's good advice. Thank you so much for hopping on with me to record an episode
