We had Betsy on the podcast today to talk about her Outback Wilderness. However, she has owned several Subarus and shares her Subaru journey with our listeners.

[00:00:11] This is Betsy and you can find me on Instagram at Basaltic Outback and you're listening to episode 188 of the podcast.
[00:00:20] Hello everyone, welcome to another episode of the Subie & You podcast. As you just heard we have Betsy on this episode and as she said she goes by Basaltic Outback so you can find her there on Instagram.
[00:00:35] So go check it out, give her a follow if you're not doing so already and check out her page and all of her posts.
[00:00:44] So I am recording this on Thursday night because I'm trying to get everything finished up before I go out to Subie Fest, Texas.
[00:00:56] Although I know that like usual I'm probably not going to get it finished up before Sunday.
[00:01:03] So I'll probably end up finishing it up on Sunday just to be completely transparent.
[00:01:08] But I'm trying to get some of this stuff recorded and finished up before we head out to Subie Fest, Texas.
[00:01:15] So I'm excited because there's Subie Fest, Texas was great last year. There was a lot of people there. It was a great event.
[00:01:24] But I just found out tonight that there's this guy who goes by Vegas Yuji and I've been in communication with him for a really, really long time since really early on in the podcast.
[00:01:37] He is the one that got me in touch with Rihanna Gelsimino. He's the one that got me in touch with Lance Smith from Vermont Sports Car.
[00:01:47] And I found out that he's going to be at Subie Fest, Texas.
[00:01:50] And so, of course, Rihanna Gelsimino and Travis Pastrana are going to be there at Subie Fest, Texas.
[00:01:59] And I am very, very excited about that, of course.
[00:02:03] But I'm also very excited to meet Yuji because he is the one that has been very instrumental in getting me in touch with some people that were really great guests on the podcast.
[00:02:17] Again, Rihanna Gelsimino, Lance Smith. He also got me in touch with the people that are in charge of or the producers and creators of Subaru Launch Control.
[00:02:29] So, you know, I wouldn't have had some of these great guests on the podcast if it hadn't been for Yuji.
[00:02:37] And to find out that he's going to be at Subie Fest, Texas, that is it's just such a really, really big deal.
[00:02:44] And it really means a lot to me. So I'm so excited that I'm going to get a chance to meet him.
[00:02:48] And of course, I'm going to be recording content from Subie Fest, Texas.
[00:02:53] So please look out for a bonus episode that will be coming up soon after this weekend.
[00:03:01] But for now, of course, we have Betsy on this episode, Basaltic Outback, and we will hear her story and her Subaru journey here in just a bit.
[00:03:12] OK, it's 1.30 a.m. on Sunday, and I still have not finished this episode.
[00:03:18] I haven't even edited the episode. All I've done is recorded this intro, but I just got back from Subie Fest, Texas, and I have to say that it was incredible.
[00:03:31] And I also have to say you do not want to miss next Monday's episode because I'm not going to do a Subie scoop.
[00:03:40] I'm going to put the episode out from Subie Fest, Texas next Monday as a bonus episode.
[00:03:48] And it's going to be really, really good. So you don't want to miss it.
[00:03:52] But anyway, I did end up meeting Yuji and got a really, really big hug.
[00:03:58] So that was cool. And some other stuff happened, but you'll just have to wait and listen next Monday.
[00:04:04] But I promise it's going to be good. And I got a lot of good content.
[00:04:08] So we'll get into this one here in just a bit.
[00:04:11] The Subie and You podcast is brought to you by Eccentric Designs.
[00:04:15] For those of you who don't know, Eccentric Designs is a small, community-driven business that offers custom-fit vinyl overlays for most Subaru models.
[00:04:24] This includes various designs for the rear reflectors, taillights, and side taillights.
[00:04:28] I also offer fun decal designs like the popular fender stripes and stickers.
[00:04:33] To find designs for your Subie, head on over to eccentricdesigns.com.
[00:04:37] There's always more projects in the works, so be sure to follow at eccentric.designs on Instagram.
[00:04:43] Thank you so much, Eccentric Designs, for sponsoring the Subie & You podcast.
[00:04:48] Go check out her Instagram page, check out her website, and see what she has to offer for your Subaru.
[00:04:55] The other thing that I'm excited about with SubieFest Texas this year is last year I went with my son Luke,
[00:05:03] and this year I'm going to be going with my daughter Catherine and her husband.
[00:05:08] Of course, Catherine has a 2024 3rd Gen Subaru Crosstrek, and my son has a 2010 Outback 3.6R.
[00:05:20] And I'm going to be driving up there with my son in Pearl, and then my daughter's going to be driving up in her Crosstrek,
[00:05:27] and my son will just leave his Outback here because we don't really need three cars to go up there.
[00:05:33] So, you know, I'm just going to drive in Pearl.
[00:05:35] My daughter's going to drive in her car.
[00:05:37] We've got an Airbnb, and so, you know, we're looking forward to going up there.
[00:05:43] So, with all that being said, I'm excited for SubieFest Texas, and I'm excited to share it with my family.
[00:05:49] So, looking forward to that.
[00:05:51] As you may well know, my other sponsor for the Subie & You podcast is Subaru Gear.
[00:05:56] If you have not checked out the website, go check it out.
[00:05:59] If you haven't been there in a while, go check it out.

[00:06:05] So, if you go on the homepage, there's an option or a button to click on new,
[00:06:10] and you can go explore all the new Subaru Gear.
[00:06:13] There are also collections, including the Bucky Lassick collection,
[00:06:18] and I just saw them at SubieFest Texas yesterday, so a great time to pick up some Lassick gear.
[00:06:25] There's also Subaru Motorsports USA.
[00:06:28] There is gear for your pets, gear for your kids, your car, your home, all sorts of gear.

[00:06:57] And thank you so much, SubaruGear.com, for sponsoring the SUBIEANDU podcast
[00:07:03] and extending this great offer to my listeners.
[00:07:06] Okay, and now it's time to get into this episode with Betsy
[00:07:10] and hear all about Basaltic Outback and her Subaru journey.
[00:07:14] So, here we go.
[00:07:28] Hey, welcome to the podcast.
[00:07:30] It's nice to have you.
[00:07:33] Thank you.
[00:07:34] You're welcome.
[00:07:35] Welcome.
[00:07:35] I found out about you through Ride or Die Design when I had her on.
[00:07:40] She was talking about you and suggested you as a guest.
[00:07:44] So, we got in contact way back when, and now here we are.
[00:07:50] Before we get anything started with your Subarus,
[00:07:53] I have to ask the all-important question first,
[00:07:56] and that is whether or not you prefer waffles or pancakes.
[00:08:00] I like both, depending on the situation and what is served.
[00:08:05] All right.
[00:08:05] That's a good answer because I like them both pretty equally,
[00:08:11] but I like pancakes just a little bit more.
[00:08:13] So, that's a really good answer.
[00:08:17] So, all right.
[00:08:18] So, I was looking through your account,
[00:08:20] and I see that you have a new 2024 Outback Wilderness,
[00:08:24] but you had another Outback before the Wilderness,
[00:08:29] but those two aren't the only Subarus that you've had.
[00:08:33] And if I'm not mistaken,
[00:08:35] you have more than just the Outback Wilderness now,
[00:08:40] but you've had a few of them even before those.
[00:08:44] So, kind of run us through your Subaru journey
[00:08:47] of the cars that you've had up until the Wilderness.
[00:08:51] I've owned six.
[00:08:52] Oh, nice.
[00:08:54] Very nice.
[00:08:54] Three Legacies and three Outbacks.
[00:08:58] Yeah, I started out with a 2000 Outback
[00:09:00] that I purchased in 99.
[00:09:03] That's the start of the Subaru journey.
[00:09:05] And then I went to a 2000 Legacy 2.5 GT Limited.
[00:09:09] Very nice.
[00:09:09] Which is the intro to the turbo.
[00:09:15] Yeah.
[00:09:16] The need for speed.
[00:09:19] And then in 13,
[00:09:21] I got tired of not having enough cargo,
[00:09:25] so that's when I got my 2014 Outback
[00:09:28] that is probably my most well-known Subaru.
[00:09:34] Subaru.
[00:09:34] Yeah, and that's the one that you have had.
[00:09:37] You had that one for 10 years
[00:09:39] before you got the 24.
[00:09:41] Correct.
[00:09:43] Yeah.
[00:09:43] And then I had a 2001 Legacy GT,
[00:09:47] which has a long story about it,
[00:09:52] which is pretty interesting.
[00:09:54] I actually rescued it out of a Subaru graveyard.
[00:09:57] Oh, really?
[00:09:58] Nice.
[00:09:59] All I did was jump its battery,
[00:10:01] and off it goes.
[00:10:02] And that's when I was,
[00:10:03] you can't kill these cars.
[00:10:07] Yeah.
[00:10:08] You can't kill it.
[00:10:10] And then,
[00:10:12] as we know with 2020,
[00:10:14] the pandemic hit,
[00:10:16] and I actually purchased a 2020 Legacy Touring XT
[00:10:21] right before they shut down the plants.
[00:10:24] Oh, perfect timing.
[00:10:26] And then,
[00:10:28] as you know,
[00:10:29] the Wilderness is a number six.
[00:10:32] So I currently own number five and number six.
[00:10:36] Okay.
[00:10:36] Gotcha.
[00:10:37] So with your Outback that you had before,
[00:10:41] 2014,
[00:10:43] you,
[00:10:43] I was also like,
[00:10:44] there was a post that you had,
[00:10:46] and you said you'd been thinking about
[00:10:47] getting a Wilderness for a while.
[00:10:48] Wow.
[00:10:49] So,
[00:10:49] what made you decide to
[00:10:52] get a Wilderness
[00:10:53] and,
[00:10:54] and not,
[00:10:55] you know,
[00:10:55] have the 2014 anymore?
[00:10:57] Because I know
[00:10:58] that we get very attached to these cars,
[00:11:00] and having something for 10 years,
[00:11:03] was it,
[00:11:04] even though you wanted an Outback Wilderness,
[00:11:08] was it still really hard to get rid of the 2014?
[00:11:12] I almost,
[00:11:13] I actually test drove a Wilderness in 21.
[00:11:16] Oh,
[00:11:17] wow.
[00:11:17] Wow.
[00:11:19] So you were thinking about it for a while.
[00:11:22] Yes.
[00:11:24] But,
[00:11:24] even though I enjoyed it,
[00:11:27] I did not pull the trigger.
[00:11:29] It was so hard.
[00:11:30] Yeah.
[00:11:31] To give up on the 14
[00:11:34] that
[00:11:34] I just
[00:11:35] put a lot of money into mods,
[00:11:37] and
[00:11:38] and I was enjoying it.
[00:11:40] Yeah,
[00:11:41] so,
[00:11:41] I mean,
[00:11:42] like,
[00:11:42] what was the ultimate deciding factor
[00:11:44] to
[00:11:44] move to the Wilderness?
[00:11:47] Well,
[00:11:49] I had to make a choice,
[00:11:51] because I can only own two cars.
[00:11:53] Okay.
[00:11:54] Two-car garage.
[00:11:55] Yeah.
[00:11:55] I live in a high altitude.
[00:11:58] I'm up 6,000 feet.
[00:12:00] Okay.
[00:12:02] Around town,
[00:12:03] the 14 was fine.
[00:12:05] You go up in the mountains,
[00:12:07] it struggles.
[00:12:08] Oh,
[00:12:09] okay.
[00:12:09] Got you.
[00:12:10] Yeah.
[00:12:10] Yeah.
[00:12:11] And,
[00:12:12] the Legacy never had a problem
[00:12:14] with its turbo
[00:12:15] going through the Eisenhower Tunnel,
[00:12:18] which is like 12,000 feet.
[00:12:19] It
[00:12:20] kept on cruising,
[00:12:21] and the
[00:12:23] 14
[00:12:23] struggled,
[00:12:24] which is probably why
[00:12:26] I
[00:12:27] kind of
[00:12:29] pushed to
[00:12:30] trade it in.
[00:12:32] Yeah,
[00:12:32] that makes sense.
[00:12:33] I mean,
[00:12:34] especially if you're living
[00:12:35] in a place
[00:12:35] with
[00:12:36] a lot of altitude,
[00:12:38] you know,
[00:12:38] if you want to get up
[00:12:39] into the mountains
[00:12:40] and explore and stuff,
[00:12:42] you don't want to have to
[00:12:43] be struggling the whole time,
[00:12:45] and
[00:12:46] going with the Wilderness,
[00:12:47] it's got more power,
[00:12:49] and
[00:12:50] of course,
[00:12:51] it's another outback,
[00:12:52] so you're familiar with
[00:12:53] the size
[00:12:53] and the cargo space
[00:12:54] and everything,
[00:12:55] and
[00:12:55] the Wilderness
[00:12:56] is just really cool.
[00:12:58] Yeah,
[00:12:59] I mean,
[00:12:59] the 14 did
[00:13:00] go through
[00:13:02] the high altitudes,
[00:13:03] but it's like
[00:13:04] underpowered.
[00:13:05] Yeah.
[00:13:06] It lost a lot of horsepower
[00:13:07] because of the altitude.
[00:13:08] Oh,
[00:13:09] I know all about
[00:13:10] underpowered
[00:13:10] having a cross-track,
[00:13:12] and I drove up
[00:13:13] Pikes Peak
[00:13:16] with four people
[00:13:17] in my car,
[00:13:18] and that was
[00:13:20] tough.
[00:13:20] I was like
[00:13:21] kind of embarrassed
[00:13:22] with people behind me,
[00:13:24] you know,
[00:13:24] going so slow,
[00:13:26] and then,
[00:13:27] yeah,
[00:13:27] that was tough,
[00:13:28] so I wouldn't want
[00:13:29] to have to do that
[00:13:30] all the time.
[00:13:31] Yeah.
[00:13:33] Yeah.
[00:13:34] So,
[00:13:35] so going all the way
[00:13:36] back to your first
[00:13:38] Subaru,
[00:13:38] your first outback,
[00:13:39] where did your interest
[00:13:41] in Subaru
[00:13:41] come from?
[00:13:43] So,
[00:13:43] it started while
[00:13:44] I was a junior
[00:13:45] in college
[00:13:46] at CU Boulder,
[00:13:47] so I wanted
[00:13:49] to bring my horse
[00:13:49] up to Colorado
[00:13:50] from Texas,
[00:13:52] which meant
[00:13:53] I needed a reliable
[00:13:54] form of transportation,
[00:13:55] no matter
[00:13:56] the weather conditions.
[00:13:57] Yeah,
[00:13:58] true.
[00:13:59] A friend of mine
[00:14:00] who was my landlord
[00:14:01] and real estate agent,
[00:14:02] realtor,
[00:14:04] mentioned I had
[00:14:04] to get a Subaru.
[00:14:05] This is a 99.
[00:14:07] Never heard
[00:14:08] of the brand,
[00:14:09] because back then,
[00:14:10] if you had a Subaru
[00:14:11] in Texas,
[00:14:12] you were an outlier.
[00:14:15] Yeah.
[00:14:16] There was none
[00:14:18] going anywhere.
[00:14:19] So,
[00:14:19] I figure I
[00:14:20] test them,
[00:14:22] test drive them
[00:14:22] while I was visiting
[00:14:23] my parents in Texas,
[00:14:25] and it came down
[00:14:27] between the outback
[00:14:28] and the Forester.
[00:14:29] Based on my listing,
[00:14:31] you can figure out
[00:14:32] which model won
[00:14:33] that battle.
[00:14:34] Yeah.
[00:14:35] And it taught me
[00:14:36] how to drive
[00:14:36] in the snow
[00:14:37] and ice,
[00:14:38] which is a good thing
[00:14:38] out here.
[00:14:40] Oh, yeah.
[00:14:40] Where you swim.
[00:14:42] Yeah,
[00:14:43] definitely.
[00:14:44] Something that can
[00:14:44] get you through the snow
[00:14:45] is very,
[00:14:46] very important
[00:14:47] out there,
[00:14:48] and Subaru
[00:14:49] seem to be
[00:14:49] very good at that.
[00:14:51] They are.
[00:14:52] They're tough
[00:14:52] little cars.
[00:14:54] Yeah,
[00:14:54] I mean,
[00:14:55] they just,
[00:14:57] I think they surprise
[00:14:58] a lot of people,
[00:14:59] not just people
[00:15:00] that don't own
[00:15:01] Subarus,
[00:15:02] but people that
[00:15:03] decide to buy
[00:15:03] a Subaru
[00:15:04] and,
[00:15:05] you know,
[00:15:05] take it out
[00:15:06] for the first time
[00:15:07] on a trail
[00:15:07] or through some mud
[00:15:09] or through some snow,
[00:15:10] and they're like,
[00:15:10] wow,
[00:15:11] this car is actually
[00:15:12] very capable
[00:15:13] and a lot of fun.
[00:15:14] I mean,
[00:15:15] even the underpowered ones
[00:15:17] like,
[00:15:17] you know,
[00:15:18] my Crosstrek,
[00:15:19] it's,
[00:15:20] you know,
[00:15:20] going off-road,
[00:15:21] it's still so much fun.
[00:15:22] I don't,
[00:15:22] you know,
[00:15:23] I don't need to be,
[00:15:24] you know,
[00:15:25] driving too fast anyway.
[00:15:26] I mean,
[00:15:26] there are times
[00:15:27] it'd be nice
[00:15:28] to have the extra power
[00:15:29] when you're trying
[00:15:29] to like get up
[00:15:30] on the highway
[00:15:31] or something.
[00:15:32] That's,
[00:15:33] other than that,
[00:15:33] you know,
[00:15:34] it does fine.
[00:15:35] So,
[00:15:35] I know I was looking
[00:15:38] through your,
[00:15:40] account also
[00:15:40] and the name
[00:15:41] of your 2024
[00:15:43] Outback
[00:15:44] is Eclipse,
[00:15:45] but you have
[00:15:46] a cool story
[00:15:47] behind that.
[00:15:48] So,
[00:15:48] explain how you
[00:15:49] came up with that name.
[00:15:52] And when I got it.
[00:15:54] Yes.
[00:15:55] April of 24
[00:15:58] during the
[00:15:59] Silver Eclipse.
[00:16:01] Now,
[00:16:02] did you plan that?
[00:16:04] Or did you just,
[00:16:05] okay.
[00:16:06] I did.
[00:16:07] All right.
[00:16:08] I had a day
[00:16:10] off.
[00:16:11] That's fine.
[00:16:12] But,
[00:16:14] I was going to
[00:16:15] inquire about
[00:16:16] trade-ins
[00:16:18] of which one,
[00:16:20] what would be
[00:16:21] the trade-in value
[00:16:22] of both?
[00:16:23] Because I was curious.
[00:16:25] The car that I got
[00:16:27] was in transit.
[00:16:29] So,
[00:16:30] it's pretty much
[00:16:30] almost sight unseen.
[00:16:32] Oh,
[00:16:33] wow.
[00:16:34] Mm-hmm.
[00:16:36] And,
[00:16:37] now,
[00:16:38] we were at
[00:16:38] 75%
[00:16:39] totally.
[00:16:40] That's,
[00:16:41] right when that
[00:16:42] happened is,
[00:16:43] put my name on it.
[00:16:44] I mean,
[00:16:45] it was fitting.
[00:16:46] Yeah,
[00:16:47] very.
[00:17:01] Yeah.
[00:17:03] So,
[00:17:03] how did,
[00:17:04] with your,
[00:17:04] with your outback
[00:17:05] you had before,
[00:17:05] Basaltic Outback,
[00:17:07] where did that name
[00:17:07] come from?
[00:17:09] Oh,
[00:17:10] so,
[00:17:10] my Instagram name
[00:17:11] started out
[00:17:12] Basalt Subi.
[00:17:13] Okay.
[00:17:14] Basalt is my 14th
[00:17:17] because
[00:17:19] the color of it
[00:17:20] was dark gray.
[00:17:22] Mm-hmm.
[00:17:23] It reminded me of
[00:17:24] Basaltic,
[00:17:25] you know,
[00:17:26] volcanic rock.
[00:17:27] And,
[00:17:28] plus,
[00:17:28] I'm a geologist
[00:17:29] at heart.
[00:17:30] I like to go
[00:17:31] rock hunting,
[00:17:33] you know,
[00:17:33] go on trails,
[00:17:34] go exploring.
[00:17:35] So,
[00:17:36] that's how
[00:17:37] it got its,
[00:17:38] partially got its name,
[00:17:39] plus,
[00:17:41] that car was
[00:17:42] solid as a rock.
[00:17:43] There's been a lot
[00:17:44] of funny stories
[00:17:44] about that car,
[00:17:46] how it became,
[00:17:47] like,
[00:17:48] solid as a rock.
[00:17:49] Yeah.
[00:17:51] Why don't you,
[00:17:52] uh,
[00:17:52] tell us one?
[00:17:53] Well,
[00:17:54] I've actually backed
[00:17:54] into a tree.
[00:17:55] Oh,
[00:17:56] really?
[00:17:57] No damage.
[00:17:58] Nice.
[00:17:59] On a trail.
[00:18:00] The other funny story is
[00:18:02] I was out on a trail
[00:18:03] by myself
[00:18:04] in Oregon.
[00:18:05] Stupid rookie mistake,
[00:18:07] believe it or not.
[00:18:08] I hit a stump
[00:18:09] and caused a lot of damage.
[00:18:11] Would you believe
[00:18:11] I still drove that car home
[00:18:12] 60 miles away?
[00:18:14] Wow.
[00:18:15] What all did you damage on it?
[00:18:17] My control arms,
[00:18:19] my strut,
[00:18:20] the alignment,
[00:18:22] the tire was bulging.
[00:18:23] Oh,
[00:18:24] wow.
[00:18:24] And then you've got
[00:18:25] 60 miles to drive home
[00:18:27] with that.
[00:18:28] Mm-hmm.
[00:18:29] And I used to,
[00:18:29] I had no cell service,
[00:18:31] so I couldn't call
[00:18:32] a tow truck.
[00:18:33] I mean,
[00:18:34] I was
[00:18:36] first wanted to get
[00:18:37] to cell service
[00:18:38] to try to call
[00:18:39] AAA
[00:18:41] to,
[00:18:42] you know,
[00:18:43] get help
[00:18:43] to get it
[00:18:45] back
[00:18:45] and get it to a dealership
[00:18:47] to get it fixed.
[00:18:49] But
[00:18:51] still no service,
[00:18:52] so I was like,
[00:18:52] okay,
[00:18:53] I'm going to drive
[00:18:53] on the highway
[00:18:54] like this.
[00:18:55] The
[00:18:56] tire and wheel
[00:18:57] on the driver's side
[00:18:58] was pushed back
[00:18:59] into the body.
[00:19:00] What?
[00:19:02] How do you steer?
[00:19:03] How do you control
[00:19:05] the car?
[00:19:06] How was it driving?
[00:19:09] Crazy.
[00:19:09] Crazy.
[00:19:12] I used the
[00:19:13] paddle shifter
[00:19:13] to accelerate
[00:19:15] and slow it down
[00:19:16] to keep it off
[00:19:17] the brakes.
[00:19:18] Yeah.
[00:19:19] I used the engine.
[00:19:21] That's smart.
[00:19:23] Yep.
[00:19:24] And I got back
[00:19:25] to Portland
[00:19:25] Metro
[00:19:27] during rush hour
[00:19:27] and I pulled over,
[00:19:29] finally called
[00:19:30] AAA
[00:19:30] and got it
[00:19:31] to the dealership
[00:19:31] before they closed.
[00:19:33] Oh,
[00:19:33] that's good.
[00:19:34] And they looked
[00:19:34] at me like,
[00:19:35] what'd you do?
[00:19:37] Well.
[00:19:39] Off-roading.
[00:19:41] I was using it
[00:19:42] what it was meant
[00:19:43] for.
[00:19:44] And this is
[00:19:45] after the lift kit
[00:19:46] was installed.
[00:19:48] Yeah,
[00:19:48] they're like,
[00:19:49] well,
[00:19:50] your lift kit
[00:19:50] saved you
[00:19:51] but also caught,
[00:19:52] you know.
[00:19:53] Yeah.
[00:19:53] I just started
[00:19:54] the problem.
[00:19:55] So how long
[00:19:56] were you without it
[00:19:57] for it to get repaired?
[00:20:00] A week and a half
[00:20:01] because it was right
[00:20:02] before the 4th of July
[00:20:03] holidays.
[00:20:04] Oh,
[00:20:04] wow.
[00:20:05] Yeah.
[00:20:08] So,
[00:20:09] what all did they
[00:20:10] end up having
[00:20:11] to repair on it?
[00:20:12] The strut,
[00:20:14] the control arms,
[00:20:15] a new tire.
[00:20:16] Yeah.
[00:20:17] And fixed the alignment.
[00:20:19] It happens
[00:20:20] but it's a tough lesson.
[00:20:21] In your Instagram
[00:20:22] profile,
[00:20:23] you have
[00:20:24] OB
[00:20:26] 22508.
[00:20:27] What does that
[00:20:27] represent?
[00:20:28] OB
[00:20:29] represents
[00:20:30] overlay and bound.
[00:20:31] Oh,
[00:20:31] okay.
[00:20:32] Yeah,
[00:20:32] that's right.
[00:20:32] Somebody else
[00:20:33] has been on here
[00:20:34] before that
[00:20:35] had that
[00:20:36] and I couldn't
[00:20:36] remember what it was.
[00:20:38] Yeah,
[00:20:38] the 22508,
[00:20:40] that's my
[00:20:41] membership number.
[00:20:43] Okay.
[00:20:44] And it's
[00:20:46] all my silver
[00:20:47] emblems
[00:20:48] on my Outback.
[00:20:49] They were from
[00:20:50] my 14th
[00:20:51] so they got
[00:20:52] transferred.
[00:20:53] And what is
[00:20:54] Overland Bound?
[00:20:55] It's a
[00:20:56] international
[00:20:57] organizational
[00:20:58] community.
[00:20:58] it's dedicated
[00:21:00] to educating
[00:21:01] about
[00:21:02] overlanding.
[00:21:02] Okay.
[00:21:04] Nice.
[00:21:05] Various aspects
[00:21:05] like
[00:21:06] cooking,
[00:21:09] safety,
[00:21:13] you can
[00:21:14] name a
[00:21:15] wide variety
[00:21:15] and then
[00:21:16] there's a
[00:21:16] place where
[00:21:16] if you need
[00:21:17] help,
[00:21:18] you can
[00:21:19] put it
[00:21:19] out there.
[00:21:20] Very nice.
[00:21:21] And there's
[00:21:21] no specific
[00:21:22] vehicle requirement
[00:21:23] to join the
[00:21:24] community,
[00:21:24] even though
[00:21:25] it's dominated
[00:21:25] by the
[00:21:26] typical
[00:21:27] vehicles.
[00:21:28] Yeah.
[00:21:29] So,
[00:21:29] if you come
[00:21:30] in there
[00:21:30] with a
[00:21:31] Subaru,
[00:21:31] they're like,
[00:21:32] okay.
[00:21:36] All right.
[00:21:37] So,
[00:21:38] that's
[00:21:38] what that
[00:21:39] is and
[00:21:39] the way
[00:21:40] Instagram
[00:21:41] is,
[00:21:42] they like
[00:21:42] to,
[00:21:42] you have
[00:21:43] to keep
[00:21:43] everything
[00:21:43] so short.
[00:21:45] Yeah.
[00:21:46] It didn't
[00:21:47] let me
[00:21:47] to put
[00:21:47] the whole
[00:21:48] name of
[00:21:49] the organization
[00:21:50] on there.
[00:21:50] So,
[00:21:51] I was like,
[00:21:51] okay.
[00:21:52] Yeah,
[00:21:53] I know,
[00:21:53] you only have
[00:21:53] so many
[00:21:54] characters.
[00:21:55] Yeah.
[00:21:57] So,
[00:21:57] when you
[00:21:58] were thinking
[00:21:58] about
[00:21:59] the Outback
[00:22:00] Wilderness,
[00:22:01] was it
[00:22:01] mainly for
[00:22:03] you wanted
[00:22:04] something that
[00:22:04] was more
[00:22:05] powerful or
[00:22:06] was it like
[00:22:06] just the
[00:22:07] overall look
[00:22:08] of it was
[00:22:09] like,
[00:22:09] wow,
[00:22:10] this Outback
[00:22:11] is like
[00:22:11] really,
[00:22:12] really nice
[00:22:12] because not
[00:22:13] only is it
[00:22:13] powerful,
[00:22:14] but it just
[00:22:14] looks really
[00:22:15] cool.
[00:22:16] It was mostly
[00:22:17] the capabilities
[00:22:18] off-road.
[00:22:19] Okay.
[00:22:20] Yeah.
[00:22:20] Mostly.
[00:22:21] Mostly.
[00:22:22] I mean,
[00:22:23] it's very,
[00:22:24] I mean,
[00:22:25] and I've
[00:22:26] seen,
[00:22:26] you know,
[00:22:27] all different
[00:22:28] colors of the
[00:22:29] Outback Wilderness
[00:22:29] and they all
[00:22:30] look good.
[00:22:31] And,
[00:22:32] I mean,
[00:22:32] there's definitely
[00:22:33] an appeal to
[00:22:34] them.
[00:22:34] I mean,
[00:22:35] you've got a
[00:22:35] little bit more
[00:22:36] ground clearance
[00:22:36] coming out of
[00:22:37] the,
[00:22:37] you know,
[00:22:38] factory,
[00:22:38] but you've
[00:22:39] got more
[00:22:39] power and
[00:22:41] it's just,
[00:22:42] they're just
[00:22:42] cool.
[00:22:43] Yep.
[00:22:43] I mean,
[00:22:44] it was mostly
[00:22:45] the off-road.
[00:22:46] That's what
[00:22:47] drew me to
[00:22:48] it.
[00:22:48] So,
[00:22:49] you haven't
[00:22:49] had it for
[00:22:50] too long.
[00:22:50] She said you
[00:22:51] got it in
[00:22:51] April.
[00:22:52] So,
[00:22:52] have you been
[00:22:53] off-road a lot
[00:22:54] with it already?
[00:22:55] Twice.
[00:22:56] Twice?
[00:22:56] Okay.
[00:22:57] Do you just
[00:22:58] not have many
[00:22:59] opportunities to go
[00:23:00] off-road or
[00:23:00] Yeah,
[00:23:01] just been busy
[00:23:03] with family and
[00:23:04] travel.
[00:23:04] What mods have
[00:23:05] you done to
[00:23:06] the wilderness
[00:23:07] so far?
[00:23:07] And then,
[00:23:08] what do you
[00:23:09] still have
[00:23:10] planned to do
[00:23:11] with it?
[00:23:12] That wilderness
[00:23:13] is fully equipped
[00:23:14] with Rally Tech
[00:23:15] parts.
[00:23:15] Yeah.
[00:23:16] It has
[00:23:18] everything.
[00:23:20] Because they're
[00:23:20] a sponsor,
[00:23:21] correct?
[00:23:22] Yeah,
[00:23:23] I'm more of
[00:23:23] an ambassador
[00:23:24] now for them.
[00:23:25] Okay.
[00:23:25] How did
[00:23:26] that relationship
[00:23:27] get started
[00:23:28] with Rally Tech?
[00:23:28] Because it
[00:23:29] started with
[00:23:29] your 2014,
[00:23:31] yeah?
[00:23:32] Yeah,
[00:23:32] it started in
[00:23:33] 2018.
[00:23:34] Okay.
[00:23:36] So,
[00:23:36] they were
[00:23:37] wanting someone
[00:23:38] to beta test
[00:23:39] their skip
[00:23:39] plates for
[00:23:40] the 2013
[00:23:41] to 14
[00:23:42] outbacks.
[00:23:43] I reached
[00:23:44] out to
[00:23:44] them.
[00:23:46] And,
[00:23:47] so,
[00:23:48] I went in,
[00:23:49] let them
[00:23:49] measure
[00:23:50] underneath
[00:23:51] so they
[00:23:52] can make
[00:23:52] the skip
[00:23:53] plates.
[00:23:54] And then,
[00:23:55] they mounted
[00:23:56] them and I
[00:23:57] gave them
[00:23:57] feedback over
[00:23:58] time.
[00:23:59] and they
[00:24:00] kind of got
[00:24:00] to know
[00:24:01] me.
[00:24:02] Because they
[00:24:03] do watch
[00:24:03] people online.
[00:24:05] Yeah,
[00:24:06] that's good.
[00:24:07] Yeah,
[00:24:07] and then,
[00:24:09] 19 is when
[00:24:10] I lifted
[00:24:10] the car
[00:24:11] because I
[00:24:12] was enjoying
[00:24:12] doing off
[00:24:13] road.
[00:24:14] Oh,
[00:24:14] yeah.
[00:24:15] And that's
[00:24:15] when they
[00:24:15] decided,
[00:24:17] we'll give
[00:24:18] you a little
[00:24:18] sponsorship.
[00:24:19] Oh,
[00:24:20] nice.
[00:24:21] And now,
[00:24:21] it's more
[00:24:22] ambassadors
[00:24:23] side,
[00:24:24] which is
[00:24:24] fine.
[00:24:25] Because I
[00:24:25] promote their
[00:24:27] company more
[00:24:28] than
[00:24:28] looking for
[00:24:29] free stuff.
[00:24:31] Yeah,
[00:24:31] because I
[00:24:32] mean,
[00:24:32] if there's
[00:24:32] something that,
[00:24:33] I mean,
[00:24:34] they helped
[00:24:34] you out
[00:24:34] with the
[00:24:36] 2014,
[00:24:37] and so
[00:24:38] now,
[00:24:38] running their
[00:24:39] stuff on
[00:24:40] your
[00:24:40] wilderness,
[00:24:41] obviously,
[00:24:42] it's a
[00:24:42] brand and
[00:24:43] products that
[00:24:44] you believe
[00:24:44] in.
[00:24:45] And so,
[00:24:46] you know,
[00:24:47] putting their
[00:24:47] products on
[00:24:48] your car
[00:24:48] now and
[00:24:50] helping to
[00:24:51] promote them
[00:24:52] is,
[00:24:53] you know,
[00:24:53] I mean,
[00:24:53] it's kind
[00:24:54] of like a
[00:24:54] win-win.
[00:24:55] Because you
[00:24:55] have something
[00:24:55] that,
[00:24:56] you know,
[00:24:57] if you didn't
[00:24:57] have any
[00:24:57] kind of
[00:24:58] sponsorship,
[00:24:58] you probably
[00:24:59] were going
[00:24:59] to purchase
[00:25:00] anyway.
[00:25:00] And then
[00:25:01] now you
[00:25:02] get to
[00:25:02] represent
[00:25:03] something
[00:25:03] that,
[00:25:04] and a
[00:25:05] brand that
[00:25:05] you,
[00:25:06] you know,
[00:25:06] are connected
[00:25:07] with and
[00:25:08] that you
[00:25:08] really like.
[00:25:09] And that's
[00:25:10] always good.
[00:25:11] Yeah,
[00:25:12] and I,
[00:25:12] when I'm
[00:25:13] travel back
[00:25:14] to Portland,
[00:25:15] I always stop
[00:25:16] by and say
[00:25:17] hi to them.
[00:25:18] It's good
[00:25:18] when you can
[00:25:19] have that
[00:25:20] in-person
[00:25:21] connection too.
[00:25:22] Because,
[00:25:23] yes,
[00:25:23] because like I
[00:25:24] have Riker
[00:25:25] Wheels and
[00:25:26] they sponsored
[00:25:27] the podcast
[00:25:27] for a while
[00:25:28] for like
[00:25:29] three years.
[00:25:30] And then
[00:25:31] when I went
[00:25:32] out to
[00:25:32] SubiFest,
[00:25:33] California in
[00:25:34] 2022,
[00:25:34] they were
[00:25:36] there and
[00:25:37] they came
[00:25:37] by my
[00:25:37] podcast booth
[00:25:38] and I
[00:25:38] actually got
[00:25:39] to meet
[00:25:39] them in
[00:25:39] person,
[00:25:40] which was
[00:25:40] really cool.
[00:25:41] And so
[00:25:42] when you get
[00:25:43] a chance to
[00:25:43] like meet
[00:25:44] those people,
[00:25:45] you know,
[00:25:45] it's really
[00:25:46] nice.
[00:25:47] It is.
[00:25:48] Yeah,
[00:25:49] they're always
[00:25:49] like,
[00:25:50] hello.
[00:25:51] Yeah,
[00:25:51] thank you.
[00:25:52] Yeah,
[00:25:53] they're like,
[00:25:54] yeah,
[00:25:55] we can see
[00:25:56] you promoting
[00:25:56] the brand
[00:25:57] as usual.
[00:25:59] So you
[00:25:59] have some
[00:26:00] decals
[00:26:01] along the
[00:26:02] side of
[00:26:03] your Outback
[00:26:03] and that
[00:26:04] kind of
[00:26:04] started with
[00:26:05] the 2014.
[00:26:07] So what,
[00:26:08] like,
[00:26:09] can you talk
[00:26:09] a little bit
[00:26:10] about that
[00:26:10] and like
[00:26:11] what the
[00:26:11] thought was
[00:26:12] behind that
[00:26:13] and I
[00:26:14] guess like
[00:26:14] the theme
[00:26:15] of your car?
[00:26:16] Okay,
[00:26:17] so my
[00:26:18] last four
[00:26:19] have had
[00:26:20] side decals.
[00:26:22] nice.
[00:26:23] And they've,
[00:26:23] have they all
[00:26:24] been mountains?
[00:26:25] No.
[00:26:26] Okay.
[00:26:27] So the
[00:26:28] 14 started
[00:26:29] out with
[00:26:30] Mount St.
[00:26:31] Helens.
[00:26:32] Okay.
[00:26:33] With its
[00:26:34] blown off
[00:26:34] top.
[00:26:35] Yeah.
[00:26:37] Which went
[00:26:38] along with
[00:26:38] the car's
[00:26:39] name,
[00:26:40] you know,
[00:26:41] volcano,
[00:26:42] you know,
[00:26:42] volcanic,
[00:26:43] you know,
[00:26:44] and eventually
[00:26:46] I changed it
[00:26:47] to Mount
[00:26:48] Hood
[00:26:49] to represent
[00:26:50] more of
[00:26:50] Oregon
[00:26:51] than
[00:26:51] Washington
[00:26:52] and then
[00:26:53] added a
[00:26:53] topographic
[00:26:54] map
[00:26:55] that's very
[00:26:56] generic
[00:26:56] and it
[00:26:57] covers the
[00:26:57] entire
[00:26:58] body
[00:26:59] of the
[00:27:00] car.
[00:27:01] Yeah,
[00:27:01] and that
[00:27:01] looks really
[00:27:02] cool.
[00:27:03] Or it
[00:27:03] did.
[00:27:04] Yeah.
[00:27:05] Oh,
[00:27:06] it turned
[00:27:06] heads
[00:27:07] everywhere it
[00:27:07] went.
[00:27:08] I couldn't
[00:27:08] go anywhere
[00:27:09] with it
[00:27:09] without
[00:27:11] people like
[00:27:12] do a double
[00:27:13] take on
[00:27:13] it.
[00:27:14] That's nice
[00:27:15] though,
[00:27:15] you know.
[00:27:16] Yeah,
[00:27:16] it was
[00:27:17] really nice
[00:27:17] but some
[00:27:18] people didn't
[00:27:19] like it
[00:27:19] and that's
[00:27:20] okay.
[00:27:20] Yeah,
[00:27:21] they don't
[00:27:21] have to.
[00:27:21] It's your
[00:27:22] car.
[00:27:22] It's my
[00:27:23] car.
[00:27:24] Yeah.
[00:27:25] And then
[00:27:25] the
[00:27:25] 01
[00:27:27] Legacy
[00:27:28] had lightning
[00:27:29] bolts on
[00:27:30] its side
[00:27:30] because of
[00:27:31] jumping its
[00:27:32] battery.
[00:27:32] It was
[00:27:33] kind of
[00:27:33] nicknamed
[00:27:34] Sparky.
[00:27:35] Yeah,
[00:27:35] that's
[00:27:36] fitting.
[00:27:37] It's very
[00:27:37] fitting.
[00:27:39] And then
[00:27:40] the
[00:27:41] XT
[00:27:43] started out
[00:27:44] with just
[00:27:45] trees and
[00:27:45] super
[00:27:46] simple.
[00:27:46] Just
[00:27:47] generic
[00:27:47] while a
[00:27:48] friend
[00:27:48] tests
[00:27:49] their
[00:27:50] skills.
[00:27:51] And now
[00:27:51] it's got
[00:27:52] a river
[00:27:52] on it.
[00:27:53] Oh,
[00:27:54] nice.
[00:27:55] Because
[00:27:55] it's,
[00:27:56] you know,
[00:27:56] I like
[00:27:56] water and
[00:27:57] it's a
[00:27:58] little bit
[00:27:58] different
[00:27:58] than my
[00:27:59] mountain
[00:27:59] stuff.
[00:28:00] And then
[00:28:01] as for
[00:28:01] the
[00:28:01] wilderness,
[00:28:02] those
[00:28:03] mountains
[00:28:03] are the
[00:28:03] flat
[00:28:03] irons,
[00:28:04] which
[00:28:05] look over
[00:28:05] boulder.
[00:28:06] And the
[00:28:07] designer tried
[00:28:08] to match
[00:28:08] that
[00:28:09] wilderness
[00:28:09] color.
[00:28:11] It
[00:28:11] did not
[00:28:13] translate
[00:28:13] very well
[00:28:14] when he
[00:28:14] printed
[00:28:14] them out.
[00:28:16] So they
[00:28:17] look more
[00:28:17] orangey
[00:28:18] than
[00:28:19] copper.
[00:28:22] So it's
[00:28:23] the
[00:28:23] flat
[00:28:23] irons.
[00:28:24] The
[00:28:25] topographic
[00:28:25] map in
[00:28:26] the back
[00:28:27] is part
[00:28:28] of the
[00:28:28] flat
[00:28:29] irons
[00:28:29] to
[00:28:29] pop
[00:28:30] or
[00:28:30] fake.
[00:28:31] And then
[00:28:32] there's
[00:28:32] a
[00:28:34] compass
[00:28:35] rose
[00:28:35] that's
[00:28:35] either
[00:28:35] rising
[00:28:36] or
[00:28:36] setting
[00:28:37] behind
[00:28:37] the
[00:28:37] flat
[00:28:38] arms.
[00:28:38] Yeah,
[00:28:39] I see
[00:28:39] that.
[00:28:39] I'm
[00:28:39] looking at
[00:28:39] your
[00:28:40] account
[00:28:40] right
[00:28:40] now.
[00:28:41] Despite
[00:28:41] the
[00:28:42] color
[00:28:43] not
[00:28:43] matching
[00:28:45] exactly
[00:28:45] with
[00:28:46] the
[00:28:46] color
[00:28:46] on
[00:28:47] the
[00:28:47] car,
[00:29:06] it
[00:29:07] color.
[00:29:08] it's
[00:29:08] good
[00:29:08] that
[00:29:08] they
[00:29:08] can
[00:29:08] recognize
[00:29:09] it.
[00:29:10] Yeah,
[00:29:11] so
[00:29:11] that's
[00:29:11] pretty
[00:29:12] much
[00:29:12] what
[00:29:12] that
[00:29:13] whole
[00:29:13] thing
[00:29:13] is.
[00:29:14] And
[00:29:14] now
[00:29:15] another
[00:29:15] company
[00:29:16] is
[00:29:16] going
[00:29:16] to
[00:29:16] put
[00:29:36] more
[00:29:37] of
[00:29:37] the
[00:29:37] on.
[00:29:38] okay.
[00:29:38] Gotcha.
[00:29:39] Yeah.
[00:29:40] Right
[00:29:40] now
[00:29:41] there's
[00:29:41] just a
[00:29:41] generic
[00:29:42] right
[00:29:43] there,
[00:29:43] but
[00:29:44] starting
[00:29:44] to
[00:29:44] peel
[00:29:44] up.
[00:29:45] Oh,
[00:29:45] okay.
[00:29:46] I don't
[00:29:47] think the
[00:29:47] vinyl is
[00:29:47] the best
[00:29:48] quality.
[00:29:49] So it's
[00:29:50] just
[00:29:50] peeling
[00:29:51] up.
[00:29:51] It's
[00:29:51] not the
[00:29:52] greatest
[00:29:52] right now.
[00:29:53] Yeah,
[00:29:54] well,
[00:29:54] you'll get
[00:29:54] something new
[00:29:55] on there
[00:29:55] and be
[00:29:56] better.
[00:29:57] Yeah.
[00:29:58] I saw
[00:29:58] that you
[00:29:59] got a
[00:30:00] WeBoost
[00:30:00] also.
[00:30:01] How has
[00:30:02] that been
[00:30:02] working out
[00:30:03] well?
[00:30:03] I love
[00:30:04] what one
[00:30:04] of my
[00:30:05] friends I
[00:30:06] met at
[00:30:06] the expo
[00:30:08] explained
[00:30:08] about that.
[00:30:10] If it
[00:30:10] can find
[00:30:11] a cell
[00:30:12] tower,
[00:30:12] it boosts
[00:30:13] your signal,
[00:30:13] but if it
[00:30:14] can't,
[00:30:17] 32 times
[00:30:18] zero still
[00:30:18] equals zero.
[00:30:20] You're
[00:30:20] out of
[00:30:21] luck.
[00:30:21] Yeah.
[00:30:23] Yeah.
[00:30:24] So if
[00:30:24] you're out
[00:30:24] in the middle
[00:30:25] of nowhere,
[00:30:25] it doesn't
[00:30:26] matter.
[00:30:26] Yeah,
[00:30:27] I'm like,
[00:30:27] but if it
[00:30:28] can find
[00:30:28] a cell
[00:30:29] tower,
[00:30:30] it'll
[00:30:30] work.
[00:30:31] That's
[00:30:31] good.
[00:30:32] So probably
[00:30:33] where you
[00:30:34] might not
[00:30:35] normally have
[00:30:36] service because
[00:30:38] your phone
[00:30:38] is too
[00:30:40] far away
[00:30:40] from like
[00:30:41] a cell
[00:30:41] tower
[00:30:41] signal,
[00:30:42] that could
[00:30:43] find one
[00:30:44] that's
[00:30:44] potentially
[00:30:44] somewhat
[00:30:45] close and
[00:30:46] give you
[00:30:46] a signal
[00:30:46] basically,
[00:30:47] right?
[00:30:48] Correct.
[00:30:49] Okay.
[00:30:50] The other
[00:30:50] option I
[00:30:51] had was
[00:30:52] Starlink,
[00:30:54] which is
[00:30:54] Wi-Fi,
[00:30:55] and add
[00:30:56] some
[00:30:56] muffled
[00:30:56] calls.
[00:30:57] Yeah.
[00:30:57] So I
[00:30:57] was like,
[00:30:58] if I really
[00:30:59] need it,
[00:30:59] I can do
[00:31:00] it.
[00:31:01] But right
[00:31:03] now,
[00:31:03] what I
[00:31:03] have is
[00:31:04] fine.
[00:31:05] Yeah,
[00:31:05] you'd only
[00:31:06] need Starlink
[00:31:07] if you
[00:31:07] ended up
[00:31:08] running into
[00:31:09] a tree
[00:31:10] stump and
[00:31:11] needing to
[00:31:12] call a
[00:31:13] tow truck.
[00:31:15] Oh,
[00:31:18] that would
[00:31:19] have been
[00:31:19] great back
[00:31:20] then.
[00:31:20] Yeah.
[00:31:21] Yeah.
[00:31:22] Or even
[00:31:23] my WeBoost,
[00:31:24] I could probably
[00:31:24] boost my
[00:31:25] signal.
[00:31:26] Yeah.
[00:31:27] But remember,
[00:31:28] that was back
[00:31:29] in 19.
[00:31:29] There was
[00:31:30] nothing like
[00:31:30] that back
[00:31:31] then.
[00:31:32] So speaking
[00:31:33] of getting
[00:31:33] out and
[00:31:34] being out
[00:31:35] in the
[00:31:35] wilderness or
[00:31:36] whatever,
[00:31:37] I know that
[00:31:37] with your
[00:31:38] 2014 Outback,
[00:31:40] you made
[00:31:41] use of a
[00:31:41] Luno mattress
[00:31:42] and now you
[00:31:44] also have it
[00:31:45] for the
[00:31:45] wilderness,
[00:31:46] correct?
[00:31:47] Correct.
[00:31:47] And I'm an
[00:31:48] ambassador for
[00:31:48] Luno.
[00:31:49] Yeah,
[00:31:50] that's nice.
[00:31:50] So how did
[00:31:51] you find out
[00:31:52] about Luno
[00:31:53] and then
[00:31:53] when did you
[00:31:54] start using
[00:31:55] them with
[00:31:56] your previous
[00:31:57] car?
[00:31:57] well,
[00:31:58] before the
[00:32:00] pandemic,
[00:32:01] I used to
[00:32:02] tent camp
[00:32:04] because that's
[00:32:05] the only way
[00:32:05] I knew.
[00:32:06] And I just
[00:32:07] never really
[00:32:08] enjoyed it.
[00:32:09] It's a lot
[00:32:10] of work.
[00:32:11] It is a lot
[00:32:12] of work.
[00:32:12] I can agree
[00:32:13] to that.
[00:32:13] Yeah.
[00:32:15] I was just
[00:32:15] like,
[00:32:16] I just don't
[00:32:17] like this.
[00:32:20] And I
[00:32:21] thought about
[00:32:21] other ways
[00:32:22] of camping.
[00:32:24] one was,
[00:32:25] you know,
[00:32:26] rooftop
[00:32:27] tent,
[00:32:28] which I
[00:32:29] was not
[00:32:29] sure if I
[00:32:30] would enjoy.
[00:32:31] That can
[00:32:32] be a lot
[00:32:32] of work.
[00:32:32] And of
[00:32:33] course,
[00:32:33] it's a
[00:32:33] brick up
[00:32:34] there.
[00:32:35] Yeah.
[00:32:36] So I
[00:32:36] found just
[00:32:38] Google it
[00:32:38] and I
[00:32:39] found Luno.
[00:32:40] Nice.
[00:32:41] And I
[00:32:42] was like,
[00:32:42] okay,
[00:32:43] I'll get
[00:32:44] their
[00:32:44] amaranthress
[00:32:46] and camp
[00:32:47] with a
[00:32:48] group and
[00:32:49] see if I
[00:32:49] like it.
[00:32:51] and I
[00:32:51] really
[00:32:51] enjoyed it.
[00:32:52] I got a
[00:32:52] lot better
[00:32:53] sleep.
[00:32:53] It's easy
[00:32:54] to set up.
[00:32:56] Yeah.
[00:32:56] And they
[00:32:57] air up so
[00:32:58] fast.
[00:32:59] They do
[00:32:59] surprisingly
[00:33:00] fast.
[00:33:01] It's like,
[00:33:01] it's like
[00:33:02] so quick
[00:33:03] and it's
[00:33:04] very impressive.
[00:33:05] It is.
[00:33:08] So,
[00:33:09] and I'm
[00:33:10] like,
[00:33:10] I'm
[00:33:11] comfortable
[00:33:11] in my car,
[00:33:13] you know,
[00:33:13] I'm protected.
[00:33:14] Yeah.
[00:33:14] Oh yeah.
[00:33:15] That's a big
[00:33:15] deal too.
[00:33:16] From the
[00:33:17] elements,
[00:33:17] you know.
[00:33:20] I wish I
[00:33:21] could time
[00:33:21] myself of
[00:33:22] when I
[00:33:23] used to
[00:33:24] do
[00:33:24] tent
[00:33:25] camping
[00:33:25] and
[00:33:26] compare it
[00:33:27] to
[00:33:27] setting up
[00:33:28] the car
[00:33:28] for camping.
[00:33:30] Yeah.
[00:33:30] I bet the
[00:33:31] car will
[00:33:32] win.
[00:33:33] Oh,
[00:33:34] I'm sure.
[00:33:34] Yeah.
[00:33:35] Now,
[00:33:35] do you
[00:33:36] utilize just
[00:33:37] the one
[00:33:37] side so
[00:33:38] that you
[00:33:38] can store
[00:33:38] gear on
[00:33:39] the other
[00:33:39] side?
[00:33:40] Because
[00:33:40] that's like
[00:33:40] such a
[00:33:41] nice feature
[00:33:41] too.
[00:33:42] It is,
[00:33:43] but I
[00:33:43] actually most
[00:33:44] of the
[00:33:44] time do
[00:33:45] both
[00:33:45] sides.
[00:33:46] Okay.
[00:33:46] And
[00:33:47] most of
[00:33:48] my gear
[00:33:48] is
[00:33:51] in
[00:33:51] Pelican
[00:33:52] cases.
[00:33:53] nice.
[00:33:53] So you
[00:33:54] just slide
[00:33:54] it under
[00:33:55] there and
[00:33:55] it's all
[00:33:55] sealed and
[00:33:56] protected.
[00:33:58] Correct.
[00:33:58] Because those
[00:33:59] are
[00:34:00] waterproofed.
[00:34:01] Oh yeah.
[00:34:02] No,
[00:34:03] that's good.
[00:34:03] That's a good
[00:34:04] option.
[00:34:04] That way you
[00:34:05] can have
[00:34:05] full use of
[00:34:06] the full
[00:34:07] interior of
[00:34:07] the car.
[00:34:08] Yeah.
[00:34:10] Of course,
[00:34:10] that's always
[00:34:11] changing.
[00:34:12] Yeah.
[00:34:15] now do
[00:34:15] you,
[00:34:16] I know
[00:34:17] you said
[00:34:18] you have
[00:34:18] it,
[00:34:18] you've only
[00:34:18] gotten out
[00:34:19] twice to
[00:34:19] go off
[00:34:20] roading
[00:34:20] because
[00:34:21] you've
[00:34:21] been
[00:34:21] busy
[00:34:21] lately,
[00:34:22] but like
[00:34:23] before when
[00:34:24] you had
[00:34:24] the other
[00:34:24] outback and
[00:34:25] then,
[00:34:26] I mean,
[00:34:26] have you,
[00:34:26] when you go,
[00:34:27] when you've
[00:34:28] gone out
[00:34:28] those two
[00:34:28] times,
[00:34:29] did you go
[00:34:30] camping or
[00:34:31] did you just
[00:34:31] go off
[00:34:32] roading?
[00:34:33] Just go
[00:34:33] off roading.
[00:34:35] Okay.
[00:34:35] How often
[00:34:36] do you get
[00:34:36] a chance
[00:34:37] to get out
[00:34:37] and go
[00:34:38] car
[00:34:38] camping?
[00:34:39] Well,
[00:34:39] this year I've
[00:34:40] only once.
[00:34:41] Okay.
[00:34:42] Yeah.
[00:34:43] At the
[00:34:44] expo in
[00:34:46] Loveland,
[00:34:47] which is
[00:34:47] more of
[00:34:48] festival
[00:34:49] camping,
[00:34:50] style camping
[00:34:51] where you
[00:34:52] just,
[00:34:52] you're parked
[00:34:53] on grass
[00:34:54] at the
[00:34:55] venue and
[00:34:55] yeah.
[00:34:57] Yeah.
[00:34:59] It's a
[00:34:59] little different.
[00:35:00] Yeah.
[00:35:01] That's what I
[00:35:01] did for when
[00:35:02] I drove up
[00:35:03] to Madison,
[00:35:04] Wisconsin for
[00:35:05] Subaru
[00:35:05] Flatfest
[00:35:06] in 2022.
[00:35:07] That's what I
[00:35:08] did is I
[00:35:09] used my
[00:35:10] Luno
[00:35:10] mattress.
[00:35:12] And I
[00:35:12] just set up
[00:35:13] one side,
[00:35:14] but we
[00:35:14] were just
[00:35:14] at the
[00:35:15] venue out
[00:35:16] in the
[00:35:16] grass with
[00:35:17] a bunch
[00:35:17] of other
[00:35:17] cars.
[00:35:18] It's very
[00:35:19] comfortable.
[00:35:20] It is.
[00:35:22] I've done
[00:35:23] the expo
[00:35:23] three years
[00:35:24] in a row.
[00:35:25] And how's
[00:35:26] that?
[00:35:26] What's that
[00:35:26] experience like?
[00:35:28] It depends
[00:35:29] on what I'm
[00:35:29] doing.
[00:35:30] Yeah.
[00:35:33] 22,
[00:35:33] I was in
[00:35:34] the showcase
[00:35:35] with all
[00:35:36] the other
[00:35:36] overland
[00:35:38] typical
[00:35:39] vehicles,
[00:35:39] the
[00:35:40] Jeeps,
[00:35:41] the
[00:35:41] tacos,
[00:35:42] the
[00:35:42] Tundras.
[00:35:43] Yeah.
[00:35:44] Outback.
[00:35:45] Yeah.
[00:35:46] One
[00:35:47] Subaru.
[00:35:48] Wow.
[00:35:50] How was
[00:35:51] that received?
[00:35:53] People were
[00:35:54] surprised.
[00:35:55] And I had to
[00:35:56] give a 50
[00:35:57] minute talk on
[00:35:57] my car.
[00:35:58] Was that
[00:35:59] required or
[00:36:00] did they?
[00:36:00] It's required.
[00:36:01] It was,
[00:36:01] it's required.
[00:36:02] Okay.
[00:36:03] You have to
[00:36:03] talk about
[00:36:04] every
[00:36:05] single
[00:36:06] mod.
[00:36:08] Now,
[00:36:08] are you
[00:36:09] up in
[00:36:09] front of
[00:36:10] people doing
[00:36:11] that?
[00:36:12] Yes.
[00:36:13] What was
[00:36:14] that like?
[00:36:15] Well,
[00:36:15] it was
[00:36:16] nerve wracking.
[00:36:17] I mean,
[00:36:17] how in the
[00:36:18] world do
[00:36:18] you talk about
[00:36:19] every mod
[00:36:20] within 50
[00:36:20] minutes?
[00:36:21] Hey,
[00:36:22] I mean,
[00:36:22] at least
[00:36:23] it's a
[00:36:23] subject you
[00:36:23] know about.
[00:36:24] So,
[00:36:25] you know,
[00:36:25] it's like,
[00:36:26] it's not
[00:36:26] like doing
[00:36:27] a book
[00:36:27] report where
[00:36:27] you read
[00:36:28] something that
[00:36:29] you don't
[00:36:29] really want
[00:36:29] to read
[00:36:30] and then
[00:36:31] you have
[00:36:31] to report
[00:36:31] on it.
[00:36:32] You know,
[00:36:33] at least
[00:36:33] it's something
[00:36:33] that you know
[00:36:34] well.
[00:36:35] So that
[00:36:35] helps.
[00:36:38] Yeah,
[00:36:38] it's a
[00:36:38] long time.
[00:36:39] It is a
[00:36:40] long time.
[00:36:42] So that
[00:36:42] was in
[00:36:43] 22,
[00:36:43] 23.
[00:36:45] The 14
[00:36:46] was a
[00:36:47] display
[00:36:47] vehicle for
[00:36:48] Luno.
[00:36:49] Oh,
[00:36:49] nice.
[00:36:50] So I was
[00:36:50] in the
[00:36:50] booth.
[00:36:51] That's
[00:36:51] cool.
[00:36:52] With the
[00:36:52] car.
[00:36:53] With
[00:36:53] that,
[00:36:54] you
[00:36:54] pretty much
[00:36:56] open up
[00:36:57] your car
[00:36:57] and people
[00:36:57] can look
[00:36:58] in.
[00:36:59] This year,
[00:36:59] I was just
[00:37:00] camping.
[00:37:02] But where
[00:37:03] they put me
[00:37:04] was right
[00:37:04] by the
[00:37:05] gate.
[00:37:08] And
[00:37:09] everyone
[00:37:09] thought I
[00:37:09] was part
[00:37:10] of the
[00:37:10] show.
[00:37:10] And I'm
[00:37:10] like,
[00:37:11] no,
[00:37:11] no,
[00:37:11] no,
[00:37:11] no.
[00:37:12] This is
[00:37:12] actually my
[00:37:13] home.
[00:37:13] Yeah.
[00:37:16] That's my
[00:37:16] bed.
[00:37:19] But no,
[00:37:20] people like
[00:37:20] to stop
[00:37:22] by and
[00:37:22] look and
[00:37:23] then ask
[00:37:23] questions.
[00:37:24] Well,
[00:37:25] again,
[00:37:25] something that
[00:37:26] you get
[00:37:26] to talk
[00:37:28] about and
[00:37:28] something that
[00:37:29] you're
[00:37:29] passionate
[00:37:29] about.
[00:37:30] Yeah.
[00:37:32] Yeah.
[00:37:32] Talk about
[00:37:34] Luno and
[00:37:35] RallyTech,
[00:37:36] you know,
[00:37:37] because
[00:37:37] sometimes
[00:37:38] super
[00:37:39] owners do
[00:37:40] show up
[00:37:40] at the
[00:37:40] expo,
[00:37:42] but there's
[00:37:43] no vendor
[00:37:44] that's dedicated
[00:37:46] to them.
[00:37:47] Yeah.
[00:37:47] At this one
[00:37:48] because RallyTech
[00:37:50] is out in
[00:37:51] Portland.
[00:37:52] So with
[00:37:53] Basaltic,
[00:37:54] what are
[00:37:55] like some
[00:37:56] of like maybe
[00:37:57] three favorite
[00:37:58] memories that
[00:37:59] you have?
[00:38:01] Well,
[00:38:02] one of them
[00:38:03] is probably
[00:38:03] that showcase.
[00:38:04] Yeah,
[00:38:06] that's really
[00:38:06] cool.
[00:38:07] I mean,
[00:38:08] it does
[00:38:09] show that
[00:38:10] Subarus can
[00:38:12] be a good
[00:38:12] car for
[00:38:13] overland.
[00:38:14] Yeah,
[00:38:15] absolutely.
[00:38:15] I mean,
[00:38:16] that's a good
[00:38:16] experience and
[00:38:17] a great
[00:38:18] opportunity for
[00:38:18] you.
[00:38:19] Yeah.
[00:38:20] And probably
[00:38:21] number two
[00:38:22] would be
[00:38:26] when I
[00:38:26] first got
[00:38:28] active with
[00:38:28] Subaru in
[00:38:29] 18,
[00:38:30] I joined
[00:38:32] Subaru groups
[00:38:33] online.
[00:38:34] and made
[00:38:35] some really
[00:38:35] good friends.
[00:38:36] Yeah,
[00:38:37] there's a good
[00:38:38] community out
[00:38:38] there.
[00:38:39] Oh,
[00:38:39] yes.
[00:38:40] But that
[00:38:41] did help
[00:38:42] a lot.
[00:38:43] Getting to
[00:38:43] notice brand
[00:38:44] more and
[00:38:45] get more
[00:38:45] active,
[00:38:46] you know,
[00:38:47] with active,
[00:38:48] you know,
[00:38:48] events.
[00:38:50] And,
[00:38:51] but my
[00:38:51] most favorite
[00:38:52] is probably
[00:38:52] last summer.
[00:38:54] I actually
[00:38:55] road tripped
[00:38:57] back
[00:38:58] to Portland.
[00:38:59] So how
[00:39:00] long were
[00:39:00] you gone?
[00:39:01] 10 days.
[00:39:03] Yeah,
[00:39:03] I started
[00:39:03] the journey
[00:39:05] for a
[00:39:06] rally in
[00:39:07] Range
[00:39:07] Week.
[00:39:09] And then
[00:39:09] after that
[00:39:10] drove all
[00:39:11] the way
[00:39:11] to
[00:39:11] Portland.
[00:39:12] Nice.
[00:39:13] And at
[00:39:13] 14,
[00:39:15] we have a
[00:39:16] friend of
[00:39:16] mine who
[00:39:17] lives out
[00:39:18] there and
[00:39:18] she's a
[00:39:19] really good
[00:39:19] friend of
[00:39:19] mine.
[00:39:21] and then
[00:39:22] while I was
[00:39:23] out there,
[00:39:24] visited
[00:39:24] Railway Tech
[00:39:25] with the
[00:39:25] car,
[00:39:26] just like
[00:39:27] old times.
[00:39:28] Went camping
[00:39:29] with friends
[00:39:29] along the
[00:39:29] Columbia River.
[00:39:31] That sounds
[00:39:31] nice.
[00:39:33] And just the
[00:39:34] timing of it
[00:39:34] is when I
[00:39:36] competed in
[00:39:37] Big Northwest.
[00:39:39] Very nice.
[00:39:40] It was just
[00:39:41] the timing.
[00:39:42] And I
[00:39:43] consider that
[00:39:43] road trip as
[00:39:44] like an early
[00:39:44] celebration of
[00:39:45] 10 years with
[00:39:46] that car.
[00:39:47] Yeah,
[00:39:47] it's a good
[00:39:48] way to
[00:39:48] celebrate that.
[00:39:50] Yeah,
[00:39:51] because 10
[00:39:52] days on the
[00:39:52] road,
[00:39:53] 10 years with
[00:39:54] the car,
[00:39:55] everything went
[00:39:56] really well
[00:39:57] except for
[00:39:57] I'd blown a
[00:39:58] little fuse.
[00:40:00] That's it.
[00:40:01] Hey,
[00:40:01] that's pretty
[00:40:02] good if you
[00:40:02] just blew a
[00:40:03] fuse for
[00:40:03] that long
[00:40:04] trip.
[00:40:05] Yeah,
[00:40:05] that's it.
[00:40:06] Blew a
[00:40:06] fuse.
[00:40:07] The only thing
[00:40:08] I didn't have
[00:40:08] were taillights
[00:40:09] one night.
[00:40:11] And I
[00:40:12] turned around
[00:40:13] to a friend's
[00:40:13] house that
[00:40:14] I was visiting
[00:40:15] and we found
[00:40:17] the spare
[00:40:17] fuses and
[00:40:18] popped it in
[00:40:19] and off I go.
[00:40:20] Oh,
[00:40:21] easy fix.
[00:40:22] Easy,
[00:40:23] easy.
[00:40:23] Yeah,
[00:40:24] I went up
[00:40:25] to Washington
[00:40:27] not this past
[00:40:29] spring break
[00:40:29] but the one
[00:40:30] before.
[00:40:30] So I was in
[00:40:31] 2023 with
[00:40:32] my son and
[00:40:34] we ended up
[00:40:35] flying up there
[00:40:36] but I was
[00:40:37] looking at
[00:40:37] like what it
[00:40:38] would take to
[00:40:39] drive up there
[00:40:40] and it said
[00:40:40] one day in
[00:40:41] 10 hours and
[00:40:42] I'm like,
[00:40:43] okay,
[00:40:43] we're going to
[00:40:43] fly.
[00:40:45] being out
[00:40:46] there in
[00:40:46] Colorado,
[00:40:47] where are
[00:40:47] some of
[00:40:47] your favorite
[00:40:48] spots that
[00:40:49] you've been
[00:40:50] exploring out
[00:40:51] there?
[00:40:52] My common
[00:40:53] spot is
[00:40:53] Switzerland
[00:40:54] Trail.
[00:40:55] I've heard
[00:40:56] of that.
[00:40:57] Which is near
[00:40:57] Boulder.
[00:40:58] Okay.
[00:40:58] it used to
[00:41:00] be an old
[00:41:01] railroad
[00:41:03] trail.
[00:41:05] Yeah,
[00:41:06] it's not a
[00:41:07] really hard
[00:41:07] trail.
[00:41:08] Okay.
[00:41:09] Just probably
[00:41:10] fun and
[00:41:10] beautiful.
[00:41:11] It is.
[00:41:12] But in
[00:41:13] terms of
[00:41:13] finding outer
[00:41:14] spots,
[00:41:15] you never
[00:41:15] know what
[00:41:16] I'm going
[00:41:16] to do.
[00:41:18] Some of
[00:41:18] my buddies
[00:41:20] have planned
[00:41:22] and I try
[00:41:23] to go when
[00:41:24] schedule allows
[00:41:25] me to.
[00:41:25] Yeah.
[00:41:27] Have you
[00:41:28] ever gotten
[00:41:29] stuck in
[00:41:29] snow or
[00:41:30] mud or
[00:41:31] anything when
[00:41:31] you've been
[00:41:32] off-roading?
[00:41:34] I have a
[00:41:35] funny story
[00:41:35] that happened
[00:41:36] last October.
[00:41:37] Oh,
[00:41:37] yeah?
[00:41:38] I actually
[00:41:39] slid off the
[00:41:39] trail.
[00:41:40] Into what?
[00:41:42] Almost into
[00:41:43] a ditch.
[00:41:44] Oh.
[00:41:45] Yeah.
[00:41:47] Well,
[00:41:47] thankfully not
[00:41:48] off the side
[00:41:48] of a mountain.
[00:41:50] No,
[00:41:50] no,
[00:41:51] no.
[00:41:51] It was in
[00:41:52] the woods.
[00:41:55] My buddies
[00:41:55] still poke fun
[00:41:56] at it and I'm
[00:41:57] like,
[00:41:57] that's fine.
[00:41:59] At the time,
[00:42:00] I was not
[00:42:01] happy about
[00:42:02] it.
[00:42:03] Got winched
[00:42:03] out.
[00:42:04] Still have
[00:42:05] images of
[00:42:05] what my
[00:42:06] car looked
[00:42:06] like on
[00:42:07] this tip.
[00:42:09] Things don't
[00:42:10] always go
[00:42:11] according to
[00:42:11] plan.
[00:42:12] No,
[00:42:13] no.
[00:42:14] Nope.
[00:42:14] You know,
[00:42:15] you talked
[00:42:15] about the
[00:42:15] Switzerland
[00:42:16] trail and
[00:42:16] it not
[00:42:16] being difficult.
[00:42:17] I mean,
[00:42:18] it doesn't,
[00:42:19] you know,
[00:42:19] going off-roading
[00:42:20] doesn't have
[00:42:21] to be difficult.
[00:42:21] It just
[00:42:22] has to be
[00:42:23] enjoyable,
[00:42:24] you know,
[00:42:25] and fun.
[00:42:25] And I
[00:42:26] mean,
[00:42:26] there's,
[00:42:27] if you're in
[00:42:28] the mountains,
[00:42:28] it's just
[00:42:29] going to be
[00:42:29] beautiful anyway.
[00:42:31] Well,
[00:42:32] my family's
[00:42:33] done
[00:42:33] engineer
[00:42:34] pass
[00:42:34] in a
[00:42:35] Jeep
[00:42:36] that we
[00:42:37] had a
[00:42:38] flat tire
[00:42:38] in the
[00:42:38] right.
[00:42:39] Oh,
[00:42:39] that sounds
[00:42:40] fun.
[00:42:42] While
[00:42:43] growing up.
[00:42:46] How long
[00:42:47] are we all
[00:42:47] stuck out
[00:42:47] like that?
[00:42:48] Not very
[00:42:49] long.
[00:42:50] Oh,
[00:42:51] that's good.
[00:42:51] Luckily,
[00:42:52] my dad knew
[00:42:52] how to
[00:42:53] change a
[00:42:53] tire.
[00:42:54] Yeah,
[00:42:55] I'm sure
[00:42:55] it's not
[00:42:56] fun in the
[00:42:56] rain out
[00:42:57] on the
[00:42:57] trail.
[00:42:58] Nope.
[00:42:58] So not
[00:42:59] only are
[00:43:00] you a
[00:43:00] RallyTech
[00:43:01] ambassador
[00:43:01] and an
[00:43:02] ambassador
[00:43:03] for
[00:43:03] Luno,
[00:43:03] but you're
[00:43:04] also a
[00:43:04] Subaru
[00:43:04] ambassador.
[00:43:05] When did
[00:43:05] you become
[00:43:06] an
[00:43:06] ambassador?
[00:43:08] 2018.
[00:43:10] Everything
[00:43:10] happened in
[00:43:10] 2018.
[00:43:12] That was
[00:43:12] a good
[00:43:12] year for
[00:43:13] you.
[00:43:14] It was
[00:43:14] a good
[00:43:14] year.
[00:43:16] So how
[00:43:16] did you,
[00:43:17] I mean,
[00:43:17] I know you
[00:43:17] have to
[00:43:18] apply to
[00:43:18] become an
[00:43:19] ambassador,
[00:43:19] but so
[00:43:20] when you
[00:43:21] got it,
[00:43:22] like,
[00:43:22] what does
[00:43:23] it mean
[00:43:23] to you
[00:43:24] personally
[00:43:25] to be
[00:43:25] an
[00:43:25] ambassador?
[00:43:26] And like,
[00:43:27] what things
[00:43:28] have you
[00:43:28] done to
[00:43:29] help your
[00:43:29] community?
[00:43:30] Because I
[00:43:31] know ambassadors
[00:43:31] get together
[00:43:32] and they
[00:43:34] just do
[00:43:34] all sorts
[00:43:35] of different
[00:43:35] things depending
[00:43:36] on where
[00:43:36] they live
[00:43:37] to help
[00:43:37] people in
[00:43:38] the community.
[00:43:38] So what
[00:43:39] are some
[00:43:39] of the
[00:43:39] things that
[00:43:40] you've
[00:43:40] participated
[00:43:40] in?
[00:43:42] Well,
[00:43:43] being an
[00:43:43] ambassador has
[00:43:44] been great
[00:43:45] to promote
[00:43:47] the brand
[00:43:47] and do
[00:43:48] activities in
[00:43:49] the community,
[00:43:50] but at the
[00:43:51] same time,
[00:43:51] I feel like
[00:43:52] my parents
[00:43:52] call me when
[00:43:53] they have
[00:43:53] problems
[00:43:54] with their
[00:43:54] superheroes.
[00:43:55] They think
[00:43:56] I know
[00:43:56] the answers.
[00:43:58] You own a
[00:43:59] Subaru,
[00:43:59] so you
[00:43:59] must know
[00:44:00] how to
[00:44:00] fix it.
[00:44:01] Yeah.
[00:44:03] But the
[00:44:04] activities I've
[00:44:04] done are
[00:44:06] park cleanups,
[00:44:08] donations for
[00:44:09] the homeless
[00:44:11] and abused
[00:44:13] communities,
[00:44:13] you know,
[00:44:14] for like the
[00:44:15] women's shelter.
[00:44:16] Yeah.
[00:44:17] Out here,
[00:44:18] I've done
[00:44:18] some blood
[00:44:20] drive with
[00:44:21] the dealership.
[00:44:22] I've done
[00:44:23] park cleanups,
[00:44:25] donated library
[00:44:26] books to
[00:44:28] the library
[00:44:28] here that
[00:44:30] are from
[00:44:31] Subaru.
[00:44:32] Oh,
[00:44:32] nice.
[00:44:34] Donated
[00:44:34] care kits
[00:44:35] to one of
[00:44:37] the local
[00:44:37] high schools
[00:44:38] that don't
[00:44:39] have much.
[00:44:40] So I gave
[00:44:40] them care
[00:44:41] kits like
[00:44:42] shampoo,
[00:44:43] conditioner,
[00:44:45] toothpaste,
[00:44:45] toothbrush.
[00:44:46] Yeah.
[00:44:46] Yeah.
[00:44:47] That's always
[00:44:47] nice.
[00:44:48] Yeah.
[00:44:50] And the
[00:44:50] trail cleanups
[00:44:51] are important
[00:44:52] too because
[00:44:54] I've never
[00:44:56] been on a
[00:44:56] trail because
[00:44:58] we don't have
[00:44:58] much out
[00:44:59] here, but
[00:44:59] I see people
[00:45:01] doing trail
[00:45:02] cleanups and
[00:45:02] there's so much
[00:45:04] crap that people
[00:45:05] dump on trails.
[00:45:05] It's just
[00:45:06] unfortunate.
[00:45:07] It is
[00:45:08] unfortunate.
[00:45:10] And even
[00:45:11] out here,
[00:45:12] I see messes
[00:45:13] around our
[00:45:14] creeks
[00:45:16] because in
[00:45:16] the summer
[00:45:17] people love
[00:45:18] to tube.
[00:45:19] in our
[00:45:20] creeks and
[00:45:21] they'll leave
[00:45:21] trash.
[00:45:22] Oh,
[00:45:23] yeah.
[00:45:24] Yeah.
[00:45:24] I mean,
[00:45:24] we have
[00:45:24] creeks and
[00:45:25] stuff around
[00:45:25] here too.
[00:45:26] And sometimes
[00:45:26] you drive
[00:45:27] by and
[00:45:27] there's just
[00:45:29] it just
[00:45:29] it looks
[00:45:30] horrible.
[00:45:31] Yeah,
[00:45:32] it does.
[00:45:35] But that's
[00:45:36] pretty much
[00:45:36] what I've done
[00:45:37] as an
[00:45:37] ambassador,
[00:45:39] you know,
[00:45:39] kind of
[00:45:39] promote the
[00:45:40] brand.
[00:45:40] Yeah,
[00:45:41] it's a good
[00:45:41] thing to be
[00:45:41] a part of
[00:45:42] too.
[00:45:43] Oh,
[00:45:43] it is.
[00:45:44] And every
[00:45:44] month they
[00:45:45] have something
[00:45:45] different as
[00:45:47] the initiative.
[00:45:48] this month
[00:45:49] is pets.
[00:45:51] And
[00:45:53] wherever my
[00:45:55] adopted
[00:45:56] dog went
[00:45:57] off to,
[00:45:57] I adopted
[00:45:58] her in
[00:45:58] October of
[00:45:59] 17.
[00:46:01] So I
[00:46:01] always celebrate
[00:46:02] October with
[00:46:03] her.
[00:46:04] Oh,
[00:46:04] nice.
[00:46:05] That's good.
[00:46:07] Yeah.
[00:46:08] Did you
[00:46:08] adopt her
[00:46:09] through a
[00:46:10] Subaru event?
[00:46:11] No.
[00:46:12] Oh,
[00:46:13] okay.
[00:46:13] For the
[00:46:13] local
[00:46:14] humane
[00:46:15] society.
[00:46:15] Okay.
[00:46:17] Yeah,
[00:46:18] she's
[00:46:18] a street
[00:46:20] dog.
[00:46:20] Or was.
[00:46:21] Yeah.
[00:46:23] So you,
[00:46:23] yeah,
[00:46:24] you've done
[00:46:24] a lot of
[00:46:24] volunteer
[00:46:25] stuff for,
[00:46:26] you know,
[00:46:26] with the
[00:46:27] Subaru
[00:46:27] ambassadors.
[00:46:27] But I
[00:46:28] also saw
[00:46:29] that you've
[00:46:29] done some
[00:46:30] volunteering
[00:46:30] at the
[00:46:31] Oregon
[00:46:32] Trail
[00:46:32] Rally
[00:46:32] and
[00:46:33] Olympus
[00:46:33] Rally.
[00:46:34] So how
[00:46:34] did you
[00:46:35] get into
[00:46:35] doing
[00:46:35] that?
[00:46:45] And
[00:46:45] 18.
[00:46:47] Of course.
[00:46:48] Right as
[00:46:48] a big
[00:46:49] everything
[00:46:50] happened
[00:46:51] in 18
[00:46:51] a lot.
[00:46:54] So I
[00:46:55] was part
[00:46:56] of the
[00:46:57] Subaru
[00:46:58] community
[00:46:59] in Oregon
[00:47:00] and they
[00:47:01] recommend
[00:47:02] people to
[00:47:03] volunteer and
[00:47:04] see what
[00:47:05] it's like.
[00:47:05] Back then I
[00:47:06] only did
[00:47:07] road
[00:47:07] marshal,
[00:47:08] which you
[00:47:09] block in
[00:47:10] roads,
[00:47:11] you know,
[00:47:12] try to keep
[00:47:13] people off
[00:47:13] the track.
[00:47:14] And then
[00:47:14] eventually I
[00:47:15] got my
[00:47:15] ham license.
[00:47:17] Oh,
[00:47:17] nice.
[00:47:18] So I
[00:47:20] actually have
[00:47:21] a ham radio
[00:47:21] built in
[00:47:22] the car.
[00:47:23] The 14
[00:47:23] did as
[00:47:24] well.
[00:47:24] So the
[00:47:25] 14 has
[00:47:26] done 14
[00:47:27] rallies.
[00:47:28] Really?
[00:47:30] Wow.
[00:47:31] From 18
[00:47:32] until last
[00:47:33] summer.
[00:47:34] Wow.
[00:47:34] That's 14
[00:47:35] was Rally
[00:47:36] Colorado.
[00:47:36] I do
[00:47:37] travel back
[00:47:38] to Oregon
[00:47:39] and Washington
[00:47:40] for rallies
[00:47:41] depending on
[00:47:42] the schedule,
[00:47:43] but I've
[00:47:43] done
[00:47:44] Olympus,
[00:47:46] Oregon
[00:47:46] Trail,
[00:47:47] and I've
[00:47:48] done Mike
[00:47:49] Nagel,
[00:47:50] which is a
[00:47:50] new one.
[00:47:51] It was
[00:47:52] named after
[00:47:52] one of the
[00:47:53] Oregon
[00:47:54] rally
[00:47:54] group's
[00:47:55] founders who
[00:47:56] passed away
[00:47:57] a couple
[00:47:57] years ago.
[00:48:00] He was a
[00:48:00] friend of
[00:48:01] mine.
[00:48:02] And I've
[00:48:03] also done
[00:48:04] Tour de
[00:48:04] Forest,
[00:48:05] which I
[00:48:05] just came
[00:48:06] back from,
[00:48:08] which is
[00:48:09] up in
[00:48:09] Washington.
[00:48:10] When I
[00:48:10] do the
[00:48:12] Northwest
[00:48:13] rallies now,
[00:48:13] I just
[00:48:14] take my
[00:48:14] handheld
[00:48:15] due to
[00:48:17] it takes
[00:48:18] a long
[00:48:18] time to
[00:48:19] drive up
[00:48:19] there.
[00:48:20] Yeah.
[00:48:24] So that's
[00:48:25] what I do
[00:48:25] now.
[00:48:26] I'm kind
[00:48:26] of a road
[00:48:27] marshal
[00:48:27] that's
[00:48:28] ham-quipped
[00:48:29] and it can
[00:48:30] make really
[00:48:31] interesting
[00:48:31] stories with
[00:48:32] the rallies.
[00:48:34] rallies.
[00:48:35] Yeah.
[00:48:36] So before
[00:48:36] you started
[00:48:37] doing that,
[00:48:38] did you,
[00:48:38] and they
[00:48:38] said they
[00:48:39] wanted you
[00:48:40] to volunteer,
[00:48:41] suggested that
[00:48:41] you volunteer,
[00:48:42] did you know
[00:48:42] anything about
[00:48:43] rally before
[00:48:44] that?
[00:48:45] No.
[00:48:46] None.
[00:48:47] And then now
[00:48:48] are you like
[00:48:48] a big fan
[00:48:49] of rally?
[00:48:50] Oh, I
[00:48:51] enjoy it.
[00:48:52] And like I
[00:48:52] said, I
[00:48:54] try to go
[00:48:55] when my
[00:48:56] schedule permits.
[00:48:57] I haven't
[00:48:58] done Olympus
[00:48:59] in a while
[00:49:00] just because
[00:49:01] it's in
[00:49:02] April.
[00:49:02] Oh, okay.
[00:49:04] And then
[00:49:04] Oregon Trail
[00:49:04] is in May.
[00:49:06] So it's
[00:49:06] kind of back
[00:49:07] and forth,
[00:49:07] but I'm
[00:49:08] hoping I
[00:49:08] can do
[00:49:09] both again.
[00:49:10] But yeah,
[00:49:11] so I do
[00:49:12] that on a
[00:49:13] regular basis
[00:49:13] and I've
[00:49:14] also done
[00:49:14] road rallies,
[00:49:16] which is
[00:49:16] time speed
[00:49:16] distance,
[00:49:18] TSD.
[00:49:18] I didn't
[00:49:19] get very
[00:49:19] far with
[00:49:19] that.
[00:49:20] I'm not
[00:49:21] a big,
[00:49:22] not very
[00:49:23] good at
[00:49:23] it.
[00:49:25] Have a
[00:49:25] co-driver
[00:49:26] telling me
[00:49:26] all the
[00:49:27] instructions.
[00:49:29] Yeah.
[00:49:30] Yeah.
[00:49:33] But that's
[00:49:33] okay.
[00:49:34] Yeah.
[00:49:35] You know,
[00:49:35] it's good to
[00:49:36] try something
[00:49:37] new and
[00:49:37] something
[00:49:37] different.
[00:49:38] Yeah.
[00:49:39] And like
[00:49:40] I said,
[00:49:40] I was,
[00:49:41] I tried
[00:49:41] it,
[00:49:42] not very
[00:49:43] fond of
[00:49:43] it.
[00:49:44] Yeah.
[00:49:44] And that's
[00:49:45] okay.
[00:49:45] Because you
[00:49:46] always have a
[00:49:46] co-driver
[00:49:47] that's telling
[00:49:47] you exactly
[00:49:48] what to do
[00:49:49] and what
[00:49:49] speed and
[00:49:50] you're like,
[00:49:51] what speed
[00:49:51] now?
[00:49:52] Has it
[00:49:52] changed?
[00:49:55] Yeah.
[00:49:55] Yeah.
[00:49:56] When you've
[00:49:57] done the
[00:49:57] other rallies,
[00:49:59] have you
[00:49:59] met like
[00:50:00] the drivers?
[00:50:02] Oh,
[00:50:02] yeah.
[00:50:03] I've had
[00:50:03] tours of
[00:50:04] their cars
[00:50:06] thanks to
[00:50:07] the ambassador
[00:50:08] program.
[00:50:09] Very nice.
[00:50:10] Oh,
[00:50:10] yeah.
[00:50:11] It was
[00:50:11] great.
[00:50:11] I've
[00:50:12] gotten
[00:50:12] close and
[00:50:12] personal
[00:50:13] on a
[00:50:14] stage.
[00:50:16] I've
[00:50:16] had,
[00:50:17] you know,
[00:50:18] my 14
[00:50:19] got damaged
[00:50:20] by several
[00:50:21] of the
[00:50:21] drivers being
[00:50:22] hit by
[00:50:22] rally rocks.
[00:50:24] Yeah.
[00:50:25] Don't you
[00:50:25] have like
[00:50:26] a photo
[00:50:27] that says
[00:50:28] like you've
[00:50:29] got like,
[00:50:30] I don't
[00:50:31] know,
[00:50:31] you posted
[00:50:32] a photo
[00:50:32] of a
[00:50:33] rally rock
[00:50:33] hitting your
[00:50:33] car.
[00:50:34] I've had
[00:50:35] about four
[00:50:36] incidents with
[00:50:37] rally rocks
[00:50:39] with all
[00:50:40] four Subaru
[00:50:42] drivers.
[00:50:44] All four.
[00:50:45] I have
[00:50:45] damage from
[00:50:46] the Strada,
[00:50:48] Higgins,
[00:50:49] and Brandon.
[00:50:50] Yeah.
[00:50:51] And forget
[00:50:52] the fourth
[00:50:53] one.
[00:50:53] But yeah,
[00:50:54] I have
[00:50:54] damage
[00:50:55] on the
[00:50:56] 14 that
[00:50:57] remains.
[00:50:58] Well,
[00:50:59] you can't
[00:51:00] fix it.
[00:51:01] No.
[00:51:02] That's like
[00:51:05] battle damage.
[00:51:06] Yes.
[00:51:06] Thank you.
[00:51:07] Or badges
[00:51:07] of honor.
[00:51:08] Yes,
[00:51:09] exactly.
[00:51:10] Yeah,
[00:51:10] the photo
[00:51:11] you probably
[00:51:11] mentioned in
[00:51:12] is I
[00:51:13] got damage
[00:51:15] on my
[00:51:17] bar.
[00:51:17] Yeah.
[00:51:18] It was
[00:51:18] in the
[00:51:19] front.
[00:51:21] that was
[00:51:21] done by
[00:51:23] Brandon
[00:51:23] because they
[00:51:24] go 100
[00:51:24] miles an
[00:51:25] hour and
[00:51:25] they don't
[00:51:25] have no
[00:51:26] control over
[00:51:26] those rocks.
[00:51:27] Yeah,
[00:51:27] that is
[00:51:27] crazy how
[00:51:28] fast they
[00:51:28] go through
[00:51:29] those stages.
[00:51:30] Oh,
[00:51:30] they do.
[00:51:31] They go
[00:51:31] really fast
[00:51:33] rust and I
[00:51:34] never fixed
[00:51:34] the bar.
[00:51:36] It's got
[00:51:36] rust.
[00:51:37] Yeah.
[00:51:38] Due to the
[00:51:38] damage.
[00:51:39] It's on the
[00:51:40] bottom side
[00:51:40] and I was
[00:51:41] like,
[00:51:42] why bother?
[00:51:43] Yeah,
[00:51:43] exactly.
[00:51:44] Higgins got
[00:51:45] the grill.
[00:51:45] Oh,
[00:51:46] yeah.
[00:51:47] Yeah,
[00:51:48] he chipped
[00:51:48] it.
[00:51:49] Thanks,
[00:51:49] Higgins.
[00:51:50] I enjoy
[00:51:50] the rallies
[00:51:51] and I've
[00:51:51] actually
[00:51:52] got one
[00:51:52] of my
[00:51:53] friends
[00:51:54] to volunteer
[00:51:54] to and
[00:51:56] she
[00:51:57] seems to
[00:51:57] enjoy them.
[00:51:58] I'd like
[00:51:59] to go to
[00:51:59] one at
[00:51:59] some point
[00:52:00] but it's
[00:52:00] just like
[00:52:01] everything
[00:52:01] really cool
[00:52:02] is so far
[00:52:03] away from
[00:52:03] me.
[00:52:04] It's either
[00:52:04] I have to
[00:52:05] fly or
[00:52:06] have to
[00:52:06] drive and
[00:52:07] I don't
[00:52:09] mind flying
[00:52:09] but it
[00:52:10] would be
[00:52:11] more fun
[00:52:11] to drive.
[00:52:12] So one
[00:52:13] of these
[00:52:14] days I'll
[00:52:14] make it out.
[00:52:15] It's just
[00:52:15] been tough.
[00:52:16] I know
[00:52:17] and when
[00:52:18] you volunteer
[00:52:18] for the
[00:52:19] rallies
[00:52:19] you can
[00:52:19] do your
[00:52:21] car's
[00:52:21] position
[00:52:22] on just
[00:52:23] beyond a
[00:52:24] stage.
[00:52:24] So you
[00:52:25] get first
[00:52:26] watch.
[00:52:28] Yeah,
[00:52:28] I've heard
[00:52:29] that just
[00:52:29] being there
[00:52:30] and not
[00:52:32] only seeing
[00:52:32] the cars
[00:52:33] but hearing
[00:52:33] the cars
[00:52:34] and hearing
[00:52:35] them come
[00:52:35] from like
[00:52:36] way off
[00:52:36] in the
[00:52:37] distance
[00:52:37] and then
[00:52:37] just flying
[00:52:39] past you
[00:52:39] it's just
[00:52:40] like such
[00:52:40] a cool
[00:52:40] experience.
[00:52:42] Yeah,
[00:52:42] that's
[00:52:43] what my
[00:52:43] one of my
[00:52:44] friends
[00:52:45] describes
[00:52:46] it as
[00:52:46] either
[00:52:46] lawnmowers,
[00:52:49] possessed
[00:52:49] hornets,
[00:52:50] or
[00:52:50] scalping
[00:52:51] horses.
[00:52:52] Yeah,
[00:52:53] I like
[00:52:53] the possessed
[00:52:53] hornets.
[00:52:54] That sounds
[00:52:54] cool.
[00:52:55] It just
[00:52:56] depends on
[00:52:57] which vehicle
[00:52:57] it is.
[00:52:58] Yeah.
[00:52:59] But it's
[00:52:59] funny.
[00:53:00] I was like,
[00:53:01] yep,
[00:53:02] they're coming.
[00:53:03] So when
[00:53:03] you know,
[00:53:04] I know you
[00:53:05] said that
[00:53:05] you've been
[00:53:06] to Big
[00:53:06] Northwest
[00:53:07] before.
[00:53:07] How many
[00:53:07] times did
[00:53:08] you end
[00:53:08] up going?
[00:53:09] Three.
[00:53:10] Okay.
[00:53:11] And then
[00:53:11] was your
[00:53:12] car in
[00:53:12] the show
[00:53:13] all three
[00:53:13] times?
[00:53:14] No.
[00:53:15] First year
[00:53:16] I was
[00:53:16] volunteering
[00:53:17] accepting
[00:53:19] pet food
[00:53:20] donations
[00:53:21] for the
[00:53:22] boxer rescue.
[00:53:24] So that
[00:53:24] was back
[00:53:25] in 19,
[00:53:26] 18 or
[00:53:27] 19.
[00:53:28] And then
[00:53:29] in 21
[00:53:29] I competed.
[00:53:30] I was
[00:53:31] placed in
[00:53:31] the wrong
[00:53:32] category.
[00:53:33] Did not
[00:53:33] get judged.
[00:53:35] Oh,
[00:53:36] that's
[00:53:36] unfortunate.
[00:53:37] Yeah.
[00:53:38] I still
[00:53:39] had a
[00:53:39] good time
[00:53:40] but it
[00:53:40] was very
[00:53:41] unfortunate.
[00:53:43] And then
[00:53:43] last summer
[00:53:44] I competed
[00:53:45] again.
[00:53:45] It was
[00:53:46] right in
[00:53:46] the right
[00:53:47] category.
[00:53:47] Oh,
[00:53:48] that's
[00:53:48] good.
[00:53:49] And I
[00:53:49] was pretty
[00:53:49] humble
[00:53:50] about the
[00:53:50] ending
[00:53:51] of it
[00:53:51] which
[00:53:52] took
[00:53:53] some
[00:53:53] hardware
[00:53:54] home.
[00:53:55] Best
[00:53:55] legacy
[00:53:55] in Outback
[00:53:57] 2010
[00:53:57] to the
[00:53:58] present.
[00:53:59] Very
[00:53:59] nice.
[00:54:00] That's
[00:54:00] cool.
[00:54:01] Thank
[00:54:01] you.
[00:54:02] I
[00:54:02] was not
[00:54:02] expecting
[00:54:03] it at
[00:54:04] all.
[00:54:05] Yeah,
[00:54:06] it's
[00:54:06] always a
[00:54:07] nice
[00:54:07] surprise
[00:54:08] though.
[00:54:08] It is.
[00:54:10] What is
[00:54:10] it like
[00:54:11] to be
[00:54:12] in the
[00:54:12] show?
[00:54:12] Because I
[00:54:13] know that
[00:54:13] you were
[00:54:14] probably
[00:54:15] at your
[00:54:16] car for
[00:54:16] the majority
[00:54:17] of the
[00:54:18] show.
[00:54:18] Correct.
[00:54:20] You have
[00:54:21] to remain
[00:54:21] at your
[00:54:22] car until
[00:54:23] you're judged.
[00:54:24] Yeah.
[00:54:25] And so
[00:54:26] how long
[00:54:27] is that
[00:54:27] before they
[00:54:28] do this?
[00:54:28] Because it's
[00:54:29] pretty much
[00:54:29] the whole
[00:54:30] day,
[00:54:30] right?
[00:54:31] It is
[00:54:31] the whole
[00:54:31] day.
[00:54:32] You have
[00:54:33] to be
[00:54:33] lined up
[00:54:34] to get
[00:54:35] in around
[00:54:36] seven o'clock
[00:54:37] in the
[00:54:37] morning.
[00:54:37] The show
[00:54:38] doesn't start
[00:54:39] until
[00:54:40] nine
[00:54:42] ish.
[00:54:42] Mm-hmm.
[00:54:43] And then
[00:54:44] you're pretty
[00:54:44] much at
[00:54:44] your car
[00:54:45] all day
[00:54:46] and then
[00:54:46] they announce
[00:54:47] the awards
[00:54:48] around
[00:54:48] two,
[00:54:49] three o'clock
[00:54:51] and it's
[00:54:52] hot.
[00:54:53] Yeah.
[00:54:53] I mean,
[00:54:54] it's not
[00:54:54] the Texas
[00:54:55] heat,
[00:54:57] but it's
[00:54:59] it's hot
[00:55:00] enough.
[00:55:01] It's hot
[00:55:02] enough that
[00:55:03] you're
[00:55:04] absolutely
[00:55:04] miserable.
[00:55:06] Yeah.
[00:55:07] And you
[00:55:08] really can't
[00:55:09] get up to
[00:55:10] get food
[00:55:10] unless you've
[00:55:11] been judged.
[00:55:12] If you
[00:55:13] miss being
[00:55:13] judged,
[00:55:15] you're kind
[00:55:15] of screwed.
[00:55:16] That's how
[00:55:18] it is.
[00:55:19] So if they
[00:55:20] were like,
[00:55:21] let's say
[00:55:21] they bring
[00:55:22] Big Northwest
[00:55:23] back next
[00:55:24] year,
[00:55:25] would you
[00:55:25] be,
[00:55:26] would you
[00:55:26] get in
[00:55:26] the show
[00:55:27] again or
[00:55:28] would you
[00:55:28] rather just
[00:55:29] be there
[00:55:30] as,
[00:55:30] as,
[00:55:31] you know,
[00:55:31] an observer
[00:55:32] and one
[00:55:33] to just
[00:55:34] attend the
[00:55:34] event and
[00:55:34] be able to
[00:55:35] walk around
[00:55:35] and see
[00:55:36] all the other
[00:55:36] cars and
[00:55:37] at least
[00:55:37] enjoy it
[00:55:50] cool to
[00:55:50] have your
[00:55:51] car in
[00:55:51] the show.
[00:55:52] But in
[00:55:53] terms of
[00:55:53] driving back
[00:55:54] up,
[00:55:55] I don't
[00:55:55] know yet
[00:55:56] if they
[00:55:57] did bring
[00:55:57] it back
[00:55:57] and,
[00:55:58] and,
[00:55:59] uh,
[00:56:00] it is sad
[00:56:00] that they
[00:56:01] did cancel
[00:56:01] it this
[00:56:02] year.
[00:56:03] Yeah.
[00:56:03] I'm sure a lot
[00:56:04] of people were
[00:56:05] disappointed.
[00:56:06] I know.
[00:56:06] I was more
[00:56:07] sad for the
[00:56:07] people that
[00:56:08] live up
[00:56:08] there.
[00:56:09] Yeah.
[00:56:10] Yeah.
[00:56:11] Especially if
[00:56:11] it's,
[00:56:12] you know,
[00:56:12] the local
[00:56:13] event that
[00:56:13] maybe that's
[00:56:14] the only
[00:56:15] thing that
[00:56:15] you get to
[00:56:16] really look
[00:56:16] forward to
[00:56:17] for the
[00:56:18] year and
[00:56:18] then,
[00:56:19] and then it
[00:56:19] goes away.
[00:56:21] Out here,
[00:56:21] we used to
[00:56:22] have one.
[00:56:23] Yeah,
[00:56:24] I know.
[00:56:25] I remember.
[00:56:26] So when I had
[00:56:26] Robert on,
[00:56:27] he said that
[00:56:27] there was one
[00:56:27] out in
[00:56:28] Colorado.
[00:56:29] There was.
[00:56:30] And no
[00:56:31] more.
[00:56:32] And I heard
[00:56:33] it.
[00:56:33] He said it's
[00:56:33] pretty cool.
[00:56:35] Yeah.
[00:56:35] The last
[00:56:36] one was
[00:56:37] 19,
[00:56:38] 19.
[00:56:38] Yeah.
[00:56:40] And I'm
[00:56:41] hoping they
[00:56:42] do bring it
[00:56:42] back.
[00:56:44] Because if
[00:56:44] I want to
[00:56:45] do a similar
[00:56:47] event,
[00:56:48] my closest
[00:56:49] ones are
[00:56:50] either Midwest.
[00:56:51] Yeah.
[00:56:52] And in
[00:56:52] Colorado,
[00:56:53] there's so
[00:56:53] many Subarus
[00:56:54] out there.
[00:56:54] It's like a
[00:56:55] perfect spot
[00:56:55] for it.
[00:56:56] I know.
[00:56:57] There's like
[00:56:58] tons of
[00:56:59] Subarus.
[00:57:00] They are.
[00:57:01] There's a ton
[00:57:02] out there.
[00:57:03] I guess you
[00:57:03] just have it
[00:57:03] in a mountain,
[00:57:04] you know,
[00:57:05] somewhere.
[00:57:06] Make it more
[00:57:07] off-road
[00:57:08] friendly.
[00:57:10] Oh.
[00:57:11] Well,
[00:57:12] a friend of
[00:57:13] mine and I
[00:57:13] thought about
[00:57:14] going to
[00:57:14] Midwest next
[00:57:15] year.
[00:57:16] How far of a
[00:57:17] drive is that?
[00:57:18] I forget,
[00:57:19] but it's a
[00:57:20] very boring
[00:57:20] drive.
[00:57:22] The plane
[00:57:23] states go
[00:57:24] through Kansas
[00:57:24] or Nebraska.
[00:57:26] But if I do
[00:57:26] Texas,
[00:57:27] I'll see my
[00:57:27] parents.
[00:57:29] Nice.
[00:57:30] Yeah.
[00:57:30] Yeah,
[00:57:30] but they're
[00:57:31] like,
[00:57:31] God,
[00:57:32] make that
[00:57:32] big drive
[00:57:33] all the way
[00:57:33] down here.
[00:57:33] I'm like,
[00:57:34] sure,
[00:57:34] why not?
[00:57:35] I've done
[00:57:35] Oregon.
[00:57:36] It is tiring.
[00:57:37] So what
[00:57:37] would you
[00:57:38] say about
[00:57:38] your Outback
[00:57:40] that best
[00:57:40] matches your
[00:57:41] personality?
[00:57:43] As a
[00:57:43] model,
[00:57:45] they kind
[00:57:45] of march to
[00:57:46] the beat
[00:57:47] of their own
[00:57:47] drum.
[00:57:48] They're unique.
[00:57:49] You know,
[00:57:49] it's a wagon,
[00:57:51] it's an SUV,
[00:57:51] and it drives
[00:57:52] like a car
[00:57:52] because it's
[00:57:53] off the
[00:57:54] legacy platform.
[00:57:55] Yeah,
[00:57:55] like I said,
[00:57:56] it kind of
[00:57:57] march to the beat
[00:57:57] of their own
[00:57:58] drum.
[00:57:59] Yeah.
[00:57:59] If you could
[00:58:00] describe your,
[00:58:01] the,
[00:58:02] if you could
[00:58:02] describe eclipse
[00:58:03] in one word,
[00:58:04] what would it
[00:58:05] be?
[00:58:06] I'm trying to
[00:58:07] decide between
[00:58:07] two words.
[00:58:08] Okay.
[00:58:10] Beefy or
[00:58:11] beast.
[00:58:13] Beefy beast.
[00:58:16] There you go.
[00:58:17] Because right
[00:58:17] now,
[00:58:18] if you,
[00:58:18] at the top
[00:58:19] of the basket,
[00:58:21] it's almost
[00:58:21] seven feet tall.
[00:58:22] Oh,
[00:58:23] wow.
[00:58:25] Like I said,
[00:58:26] it's a beast.
[00:58:27] And I thought
[00:58:28] my 14 was a
[00:58:28] beast.
[00:58:32] Is this one
[00:58:32] like,
[00:58:34] what is the,
[00:58:34] like the overall
[00:58:35] driving experience
[00:58:37] like?
[00:58:38] Obviously,
[00:58:38] power is one
[00:58:39] thing,
[00:58:40] but like,
[00:58:40] how is it as
[00:58:41] far as like
[00:58:42] off-road and
[00:58:43] just handling?
[00:58:45] It's so capable
[00:58:46] with the X
[00:58:47] mode on,
[00:58:47] it just
[00:58:48] figures things
[00:58:49] out on its
[00:58:50] own.
[00:58:50] I'm just
[00:58:51] there to
[00:58:51] steer.
[00:58:52] Yeah,
[00:58:53] the X
[00:58:53] mode's pretty
[00:58:53] amazing
[00:58:54] what it can
[00:58:55] do.
[00:58:55] My 14
[00:58:56] didn't have
[00:58:56] it.
[00:58:57] So that's,
[00:58:57] so I'm in
[00:58:58] the learning
[00:58:59] phase right
[00:58:59] now with
[00:58:59] the new
[00:59:00] one,
[00:59:01] with that
[00:59:01] X
[00:59:02] mode.
[00:59:03] Yeah,
[00:59:04] it's definitely
[00:59:04] helpful when
[00:59:06] you really need
[00:59:06] it.
[00:59:06] It is.
[00:59:07] So it's like
[00:59:08] you can try
[00:59:09] something without
[00:59:10] it and then
[00:59:10] if you're
[00:59:10] having trouble
[00:59:11] you can turn
[00:59:11] it on and
[00:59:12] it can
[00:59:12] definitely
[00:59:13] help you
[00:59:13] out.
[00:59:14] Yeah.
[00:59:16] How has
[00:59:17] owning your
[00:59:18] Subarus
[00:59:18] changed your
[00:59:19] life?
[00:59:20] Well,
[00:59:20] I'm going to
[00:59:21] learn to
[00:59:21] interpret.
[00:59:23] I'm pretty,
[00:59:25] well,
[00:59:25] growing up I was
[00:59:26] shy and quiet.
[00:59:27] Subarus were
[00:59:27] just an
[00:59:28] icebreaker.
[00:59:29] That's how I
[00:59:30] got more
[00:59:30] interactive,
[00:59:32] which definitely
[00:59:32] helped with being
[00:59:33] an ambassador.
[00:59:35] Yeah,
[00:59:36] it's nice when
[00:59:37] you can come
[00:59:39] together with
[00:59:39] something,
[00:59:40] you know,
[00:59:41] that you have in
[00:59:41] common with
[00:59:42] somebody else
[00:59:43] because then
[00:59:43] that helps
[00:59:44] you be able to
[00:59:45] kind of open
[00:59:46] up more and
[00:59:47] be more comfortable
[00:59:48] talking to
[00:59:49] other people.
[00:59:51] Yeah,
[00:59:51] and then
[00:59:53] once you
[00:59:53] get to
[00:59:53] know some
[00:59:55] of them
[00:59:55] and you
[00:59:55] realize,
[00:59:56] oh,
[00:59:56] there's more
[00:59:57] things in
[00:59:58] common,
[00:59:58] not just
[00:59:59] the car.
[00:59:59] Oh,
[01:00:00] yeah.
[01:00:00] The car is
[01:00:01] the initial
[01:00:02] one.
[01:00:02] Mm-hmm.
[01:00:03] Oh,
[01:00:04] I'm shy
[01:00:04] too,
[01:00:05] you know.
[01:00:06] Or,
[01:00:07] you know,
[01:00:07] I like this
[01:00:08] and then
[01:00:09] I like that
[01:00:10] as well.
[01:00:10] You want to
[01:00:10] do that
[01:00:11] sometime?
[01:00:12] You know,
[01:00:12] kind of thing.
[01:00:13] Yeah,
[01:00:13] because then
[01:00:14] it opens up
[01:00:15] the,
[01:00:15] you know,
[01:00:16] just the
[01:00:17] aspects of
[01:00:18] who you are
[01:00:19] as a person
[01:00:20] starting with
[01:00:21] the car
[01:00:21] because you
[01:00:22] can have
[01:00:23] that conversation
[01:00:23] go first
[01:00:24] and then
[01:00:25] it just,
[01:00:25] it's like it
[01:00:26] naturally
[01:00:26] gravitates into
[01:00:27] other just
[01:00:28] normal conversation.
[01:00:30] Yeah.
[01:00:31] And then
[01:00:31] that's when
[01:00:32] the real fun
[01:00:33] starts.
[01:00:34] Yes.
[01:00:35] It's a good
[01:00:35] way of looking
[01:00:36] at it.
[01:00:37] Yeah,
[01:00:37] I mean,
[01:00:37] it's a great
[01:00:38] way to make
[01:00:39] more friends
[01:00:39] and,
[01:00:40] you know,
[01:00:40] you buy
[01:00:41] these cars,
[01:00:42] you get
[01:00:42] connected
[01:00:42] with the
[01:00:42] community
[01:00:43] and then
[01:00:43] the next
[01:00:44] thing you
[01:00:44] know,
[01:00:44] you're like,
[01:00:45] I have
[01:00:45] all these
[01:00:45] friends that
[01:00:46] I would have
[01:00:46] never met
[01:00:48] or known about
[01:00:49] had I not
[01:00:50] bought this car.
[01:00:52] I mean,
[01:00:52] yeah,
[01:00:53] I have a friend
[01:00:53] right now,
[01:00:54] she lives
[01:00:55] out in Oregon
[01:00:56] and we stay
[01:00:56] in contact
[01:00:57] a lot
[01:00:58] still.
[01:00:59] And
[01:01:00] if I didn't
[01:01:01] join the
[01:01:02] Subaru community
[01:01:03] out there,
[01:01:04] I'm probably
[01:01:05] when I got
[01:01:06] to know her.
[01:01:07] Yeah.
[01:01:07] So do you
[01:01:08] think you'll
[01:01:08] always own a
[01:01:08] Subaru?
[01:01:09] More than
[01:01:10] likely.
[01:01:11] I mean,
[01:01:11] I've owned
[01:01:12] them since
[01:01:12] 99.
[01:01:13] That's been
[01:01:14] a while.
[01:01:15] It is
[01:01:16] because they
[01:01:18] have treated
[01:01:19] me well.
[01:01:20] Yeah,
[01:01:21] stick with
[01:01:21] what you know,
[01:01:22] stick with
[01:01:23] what's been
[01:01:23] good to you.
[01:01:24] Never really
[01:01:25] had any
[01:01:26] major problems
[01:01:26] with any
[01:01:27] of them.
[01:01:28] Yeah,
[01:01:28] and that's
[01:01:29] good.
[01:01:29] Well,
[01:01:30] here's the
[01:01:31] segment to
[01:01:32] get to
[01:01:32] know the
[01:01:33] person behind
[01:01:33] the count
[01:01:34] a little bit
[01:01:34] better,
[01:01:35] but who
[01:01:35] is Betsy?
[01:01:37] What do
[01:01:38] people want
[01:01:38] to know
[01:01:38] about Betsy?
[01:01:40] Whatever you're
[01:01:41] comfortable sharing.
[01:01:42] I'm from
[01:01:43] Houston.
[01:01:44] Yay!
[01:01:47] But I
[01:01:48] grew up in
[01:01:48] a small town
[01:01:49] outside of
[01:01:49] Houston
[01:01:50] called
[01:01:51] Brenham,
[01:01:51] which is
[01:01:52] even smaller
[01:01:53] than the town
[01:01:53] that I live in
[01:01:54] now.
[01:01:54] while growing
[01:01:55] up,
[01:01:56] I rode
[01:01:56] horses,
[01:01:58] competed
[01:01:58] with them.
[01:01:59] Oh,
[01:02:00] nice.
[01:02:00] Did English
[01:02:01] riding,
[01:02:02] not Western.
[01:02:02] Okay.
[01:02:03] I'm a Texan,
[01:02:03] but I don't
[01:02:04] do Western
[01:02:04] riding.
[01:02:07] And then I
[01:02:08] went off to
[01:02:08] school in
[01:02:09] Colorado and
[01:02:10] joined the
[01:02:11] equestrian team
[01:02:12] here while I
[01:02:13] was learning my
[01:02:13] degree in
[01:02:14] science.
[01:02:15] And then I
[01:02:16] moved off to
[01:02:17] Oregon for
[01:02:17] almost 20
[01:02:18] years.
[01:02:19] Wow.
[01:02:20] Nice.
[01:02:22] Yeah.
[01:02:22] And then
[01:02:25] a few years
[01:02:25] ago,
[01:02:26] my brother
[01:02:27] decided I
[01:02:28] should move
[01:02:29] back to
[01:02:29] Colorado.
[01:02:32] Okay.
[01:02:32] I'll move
[01:02:33] back because
[01:02:33] you said
[01:02:34] so.
[01:02:35] Well,
[01:02:36] the way I
[01:02:37] looked at
[01:02:38] things is
[01:02:38] people come
[01:02:39] and go,
[01:02:40] families permit.
[01:02:41] Yep.
[01:02:43] For better,
[01:02:43] for worse.
[01:02:44] Very true.
[01:02:46] Luckily,
[01:02:46] he and I
[01:02:46] have a good
[01:02:47] relationship.
[01:02:49] And because
[01:02:50] of that,
[01:02:51] I was
[01:02:51] willing to
[01:02:53] move back
[01:02:54] because it
[01:02:56] was pretty
[01:02:57] much the
[01:02:57] only other
[01:02:58] region of
[01:02:58] the country
[01:02:58] that I
[01:02:59] was willing
[01:02:59] to move
[01:03:00] to.
[01:03:01] Yeah.
[01:03:01] Colorado is
[01:03:02] such an
[01:03:02] awful place
[01:03:03] to move
[01:03:03] to.
[01:03:04] Yeah.
[01:03:06] What a
[01:03:06] horrible
[01:03:07] choice.
[01:03:08] Oh,
[01:03:08] so expensive.
[01:03:11] It's
[01:03:11] beautiful there
[01:03:12] though.
[01:03:13] It is
[01:03:13] beautiful,
[01:03:14] but
[01:03:15] expensive.
[01:03:16] The other
[01:03:17] reason is
[01:03:17] because of
[01:03:18] the pandemic.
[01:03:19] Port one
[01:03:20] was not
[01:03:21] doing well.
[01:03:22] I heard.
[01:03:23] Yeah.
[01:03:24] One of
[01:03:25] them,
[01:03:26] stories that
[01:03:26] I have,
[01:03:28] the legacy
[01:03:29] that I have,
[01:03:30] got stolen.
[01:03:31] Oh,
[01:03:32] that sucks.
[01:03:33] Out of my
[01:03:34] driveway.
[01:03:35] Yeah,
[01:03:35] that's not
[01:03:35] good.
[01:03:36] I have it
[01:03:37] now.
[01:03:37] It's
[01:03:37] recovered.
[01:03:38] That's
[01:03:38] the important
[01:03:38] part.
[01:03:39] But I
[01:03:40] felt kind
[01:03:42] of violated.
[01:03:42] I can
[01:03:43] imagine.
[01:03:44] And I only
[01:03:45] had that car
[01:03:45] for two
[01:03:45] weeks.
[01:03:46] What?
[01:03:47] That's
[01:03:48] like,
[01:03:49] that's
[01:03:49] horrible.
[01:03:50] Oh,
[01:03:50] I just
[01:03:51] got this
[01:03:51] car.
[01:03:51] Great.
[01:03:52] It got
[01:03:52] stolen.
[01:03:53] Wonderful.
[01:03:55] At least
[01:03:56] you got it
[01:03:56] back because
[01:03:57] that's,
[01:03:58] was it
[01:03:59] stripped or
[01:03:59] anything?
[01:04:00] No.
[01:04:01] Okay.
[01:04:02] That's
[01:04:03] good.
[01:04:03] So,
[01:04:03] the story
[01:04:04] behind
[01:04:05] the
[01:04:05] recovery.
[01:04:08] Woke
[01:04:08] up at,
[01:04:08] you know,
[01:04:09] 8 a.m.
[01:04:10] I was
[01:04:10] going to
[01:04:11] clean it.
[01:04:12] And this,
[01:04:13] at this
[01:04:13] time I had
[01:04:14] three
[01:04:14] cars.
[01:04:16] And I
[01:04:16] just
[01:04:17] happened to
[01:04:17] leave the
[01:04:18] new one
[01:04:18] outside in
[01:04:19] the driveway,
[01:04:19] not the
[01:04:20] really old,
[01:04:21] old one.
[01:04:22] I opened up
[01:04:23] the garage
[01:04:23] door and
[01:04:24] it was not
[01:04:24] there.
[01:04:25] That's just
[01:04:26] got to be
[01:04:26] the most
[01:04:26] awful feeling.
[01:04:28] Oh,
[01:04:28] yeah.
[01:04:29] and I
[01:04:31] used my
[01:04:32] Subaru
[01:04:32] app
[01:04:34] to
[01:04:35] locate the
[01:04:36] car.
[01:04:37] And I
[01:04:37] called,
[01:04:37] and because
[01:04:38] I didn't
[01:04:39] know if
[01:04:39] they had
[01:04:40] any weapons
[01:04:41] or anything,
[01:04:42] I called
[01:04:43] 911.
[01:04:44] They asked
[01:04:45] me what
[01:04:45] the distinguishing
[01:04:46] features of
[01:04:47] the car.
[01:04:47] I told
[01:04:48] them about
[01:04:48] the side
[01:04:49] decals,
[01:04:49] the trees,
[01:04:50] because they
[01:04:50] would glow
[01:04:52] in the
[01:04:52] sun.
[01:04:54] And I
[01:04:54] told them
[01:04:55] exactly where
[01:04:55] it was.
[01:04:56] Wow,
[01:04:56] you got
[01:04:57] those decals
[01:04:57] on there
[01:04:58] quick.
[01:04:59] Mm-hmm.
[01:05:00] Within two
[01:05:00] weeks.
[01:05:02] Well,
[01:05:03] it's one way
[01:05:04] of distinguishing
[01:05:05] your car
[01:05:05] from someone
[01:05:06] else's.
[01:05:06] Yeah,
[01:05:07] very true.
[01:05:07] It's a good
[01:05:07] thing you
[01:05:08] had those
[01:05:08] on there.
[01:05:09] Yes,
[01:05:10] it is.
[01:05:10] So I
[01:05:10] told them
[01:05:11] where it
[01:05:11] was,
[01:05:12] and they
[01:05:13] still sent
[01:05:13] out a
[01:05:15] Beaverton
[01:05:15] police,
[01:05:16] which is
[01:05:16] where I
[01:05:16] lived.
[01:05:17] And while
[01:05:17] he was
[01:05:18] talking to
[01:05:18] me,
[01:05:19] the
[01:05:19] Portland
[01:05:20] police
[01:05:20] called him.
[01:05:21] We found
[01:05:21] the car.
[01:05:22] It's
[01:05:22] exactly
[01:05:22] where she
[01:05:23] said it
[01:05:23] was.
[01:05:24] So they
[01:05:24] had a
[01:05:26] detective
[01:05:26] there
[01:05:27] guarding
[01:05:27] it,
[01:05:28] until I
[01:05:29] showed up
[01:05:29] and I
[01:05:31] drove it
[01:05:31] off.
[01:05:32] So I
[01:05:32] report
[01:05:32] missing
[01:05:32] at 8 a.m.,
[01:05:33] recovered at
[01:05:34] 930.
[01:05:35] Wow,
[01:05:36] that's really
[01:05:36] quick.
[01:05:37] Yes.
[01:05:38] The only
[01:05:39] damage is a
[01:05:40] dent on the
[01:05:41] driver's side
[01:05:41] door because
[01:05:42] they parked
[01:05:42] next to a
[01:05:43] rock.
[01:05:45] that's
[01:05:45] it.
[01:05:46] Not
[01:05:47] stripped.
[01:05:47] That's
[01:05:48] good.
[01:05:49] Nothing.
[01:05:50] They went
[01:05:51] for a joy
[01:05:52] ride.
[01:05:53] Yeah.
[01:05:54] Yeah.
[01:05:54] But they
[01:05:55] were like,
[01:05:55] how'd you
[01:05:56] know where
[01:05:56] it was?
[01:05:57] Internal
[01:05:57] tracker.
[01:05:58] That was
[01:05:59] so good
[01:05:59] that you
[01:05:59] have that
[01:06:00] on there.
[01:06:01] No,
[01:06:01] that's
[01:06:01] from
[01:06:01] factory.
[01:06:02] Yeah.
[01:06:02] Well,
[01:06:03] I mean,
[01:06:03] I guess
[01:06:03] it's good
[01:06:03] that Subaru
[01:06:04] has that
[01:06:04] on there.
[01:06:05] Yeah.
[01:06:05] They're
[01:06:05] like,
[01:06:06] some of
[01:06:07] the high
[01:06:07] end cars
[01:06:07] don't even
[01:06:08] do that.
[01:06:08] And they're
[01:06:09] like,
[01:06:09] but little
[01:06:10] Subaru
[01:06:10] does.
[01:06:13] I
[01:06:13] probably
[01:06:13] save the
[01:06:14] car plus
[01:06:17] the side
[01:06:18] decals.
[01:06:19] Yeah.
[01:06:20] Yeah.
[01:06:21] That's
[01:06:21] definitely
[01:06:22] very,
[01:06:23] very good
[01:06:24] that you
[01:06:24] had that
[01:06:25] on there.
[01:06:26] Yes.
[01:06:26] So that's
[01:06:27] probably another
[01:06:28] reason why I
[01:06:29] do the
[01:06:29] side decals
[01:06:30] so that
[01:06:31] when you're
[01:06:32] in a parking
[01:06:33] lot full of
[01:06:33] Subarus,
[01:06:35] you know
[01:06:35] exactly which
[01:06:36] one's yours.
[01:06:37] Yeah.
[01:06:38] Yeah.
[01:06:39] Because I
[01:06:39] almost got
[01:06:40] into someone
[01:06:42] else's one
[01:06:42] one day.
[01:06:43] And I'm
[01:06:44] like,
[01:06:44] why is
[01:06:44] my key
[01:06:45] not working?
[01:06:46] Oh,
[01:06:46] it's the
[01:06:47] wrong car.
[01:06:50] That's
[01:06:50] funny.
[01:06:51] It is.
[01:06:53] But it's
[01:06:54] an important
[01:06:54] lesson.
[01:06:55] So what
[01:06:56] is it
[01:06:56] that you
[01:06:56] do for
[01:06:57] a living?
[01:06:58] Office
[01:06:58] work.
[01:06:59] Simple.
[01:07:00] Do you
[01:07:01] work at
[01:07:01] an office
[01:07:01] or do
[01:07:02] you work
[01:07:02] from home?
[01:07:03] At
[01:07:03] an office.
[01:07:04] I do
[01:07:04] a lot
[01:07:04] of data
[01:07:05] entry
[01:07:05] and
[01:07:07] inventory
[01:07:09] spreadsheets.
[01:07:10] Do you
[01:07:10] have a
[01:07:11] dream job?
[01:07:12] I
[01:07:13] actually
[01:07:13] almost
[01:07:13] was in
[01:07:14] the process
[01:07:14] of starting
[01:07:15] my own
[01:07:15] business
[01:07:15] in Oregon.
[01:07:17] Nice.
[01:07:17] I couldn't
[01:07:18] get it
[01:07:18] off the
[01:07:19] ground,
[01:07:20] but it
[01:07:20] would have
[01:07:21] been a
[01:07:21] good job.
[01:07:22] It was
[01:07:23] creating
[01:07:23] curriculum for
[01:07:24] the homeschool
[01:07:25] market.
[01:07:26] Okay,
[01:07:26] yeah.
[01:07:27] Anybody
[01:07:27] that wanted
[01:07:28] to enrich
[01:07:28] their kids
[01:07:29] education.
[01:07:30] Yeah,
[01:07:31] that's
[01:07:31] good.
[01:07:32] That's
[01:07:32] important
[01:07:32] too.
[01:07:33] It is.
[01:07:35] Yes.
[01:07:38] But it
[01:07:39] proved to
[01:07:39] be very
[01:07:40] difficult
[01:07:40] to do.
[01:07:41] So I
[01:07:42] applaud
[01:07:43] anybody
[01:07:43] that can
[01:07:44] get their
[01:07:45] own
[01:07:45] business
[01:07:45] off the
[01:07:46] ground.
[01:07:47] Anybody.
[01:07:49] Is it
[01:07:49] something
[01:07:50] that you
[01:07:50] Oh,
[01:07:51] okay.
[01:07:52] Yeah.
[01:07:52] Yeah.
[01:07:53] Gotcha.
[01:07:53] To try to
[01:07:54] get it off
[01:07:55] the ground
[01:07:55] and it
[01:07:56] proved very
[01:07:57] difficult,
[01:07:57] but I
[01:07:58] learned a
[01:07:58] lot off
[01:07:58] the
[01:07:58] skills.
[01:07:59] That's
[01:08:00] good.
[01:08:01] Yeah.
[01:08:01] So what
[01:08:02] other hobbies
[01:08:02] do you have
[01:08:03] besides getting
[01:08:04] out and driving
[01:08:04] your Subarus?
[01:08:05] Well,
[01:08:06] my horseback
[01:08:07] riding.
[01:08:07] Yeah.
[01:08:08] Which,
[01:08:08] yeah,
[01:08:09] I rode
[01:08:09] horses from
[01:08:12] when I was
[01:08:13] about five
[01:08:13] until about
[01:08:14] 23.
[01:08:15] Wow.
[01:08:16] Nice.
[01:08:17] Yeah.
[01:08:18] I'm hoping
[01:08:18] to get back
[01:08:19] into my
[01:08:19] riding soon
[01:08:21] because I
[01:08:21] feel like I'm
[01:08:22] ready to get
[01:08:22] back in the
[01:08:23] saddle after
[01:08:25] a riding
[01:08:26] accident.
[01:08:26] Oh,
[01:08:27] that's
[01:08:27] unfortunate.
[01:08:28] I fell
[01:08:29] off a
[01:08:29] horse and
[01:08:29] ran it
[01:08:30] on my
[01:08:30] back.
[01:08:31] Did
[01:08:31] you,
[01:08:32] did you
[01:08:32] break your
[01:08:33] back?
[01:08:33] No.
[01:08:34] Oh,
[01:08:35] that's
[01:08:35] good.
[01:08:36] The
[01:08:36] impact
[01:08:36] caused my
[01:08:37] back muscles
[01:08:38] to pinch
[01:08:38] my
[01:08:39] side
[01:08:40] nerve,
[01:08:41] which is
[01:08:42] painful in
[01:08:42] itself.
[01:08:43] Oh,
[01:08:44] I'm sure.
[01:08:45] So I
[01:08:45] stopped
[01:08:45] riding for
[01:08:46] a while
[01:08:46] and then I
[01:08:48] moved to
[01:08:48] Oregon.
[01:08:49] Hopefully you can
[01:08:49] get back
[01:08:50] into it.
[01:08:51] Yeah,
[01:08:51] I love to
[01:08:52] get back
[01:08:52] into it.
[01:08:53] And the
[01:08:53] other thing
[01:08:53] I love to
[01:08:53] do is
[01:08:54] travel.
[01:08:55] I typically
[01:08:56] travel back
[01:08:58] to Oregon
[01:08:58] and then
[01:08:59] also travel
[01:09:00] to Texas.
[01:09:00] Texas.
[01:09:01] That's
[01:09:01] a pretty
[01:09:01] good
[01:09:02] state.
[01:09:03] Well,
[01:09:04] I gotta
[01:09:04] see my
[01:09:04] family.
[01:09:05] Yeah,
[01:09:05] of course.
[01:09:06] Yeah,
[01:09:07] because you
[01:09:08] never know
[01:09:08] when the
[01:09:08] last day
[01:09:09] is.
[01:09:10] That's
[01:09:10] very true.
[01:09:12] What is
[01:09:12] something that
[01:09:13] makes you
[01:09:13] want to
[01:09:13] get out
[01:09:14] of bed
[01:09:14] every day?
[01:09:15] Well,
[01:09:16] there's no
[01:09:16] telling what
[01:09:16] the day
[01:09:17] brings.
[01:09:17] And it
[01:09:18] waits for
[01:09:18] me when
[01:09:19] I want
[01:09:19] to get
[01:09:19] out of
[01:09:19] bed.
[01:09:20] That's
[01:09:21] a very
[01:09:21] good way
[01:09:21] of looking
[01:09:22] at it.
[01:09:23] You never
[01:09:23] know.
[01:09:24] Yeah,
[01:09:24] very true.
[01:09:25] And I
[01:09:26] feel like
[01:09:26] nothing
[01:09:27] doesn't
[01:09:28] come if
[01:09:28] you don't
[01:09:29] get out
[01:09:29] of bed.
[01:09:30] Yeah,
[01:09:31] that's
[01:09:31] true.
[01:09:31] Nothing's
[01:09:32] going to
[01:09:32] happen.
[01:09:33] Yeah.
[01:09:35] Yeah,
[01:09:35] but what
[01:09:35] makes me
[01:09:36] want to
[01:09:36] stay
[01:09:36] in bed
[01:09:38] when I'm
[01:09:38] just
[01:09:40] nothing
[01:09:40] goes
[01:09:41] right.
[01:09:42] Yeah.
[01:09:43] It's
[01:09:43] like you
[01:09:43] just don't
[01:09:44] want to
[01:09:45] get out.
[01:09:47] Yeah.
[01:09:48] Sometimes,
[01:09:49] yeah,
[01:09:49] there's,
[01:09:50] I haven't
[01:09:50] wanted to
[01:09:51] get out
[01:09:51] of bed
[01:09:51] quite a
[01:09:52] bit lately
[01:09:52] in the
[01:09:53] morning.
[01:09:54] I just
[01:09:54] don't
[01:09:54] want to
[01:09:54] get up.
[01:09:55] I want
[01:09:56] to stay
[01:09:56] here.
[01:09:58] What would
[01:09:59] be your
[01:09:59] best bit
[01:09:59] of advice
[01:10:00] to give
[01:10:00] to someone
[01:10:01] about
[01:10:01] anything?
[01:10:03] No matter
[01:10:03] what happens
[01:10:04] during the
[01:10:04] day,
[01:10:05] the sun
[01:10:05] will rise
[01:10:05] in the
[01:10:06] following
[01:10:06] morning.
[01:10:07] And also
[01:10:07] even things
[01:10:09] might seem
[01:10:09] bad at
[01:10:09] the moment,
[01:10:10] but day
[01:10:10] too shall
[01:10:11] pass.
[01:10:12] Yeah.
[01:10:13] That's
[01:10:14] like,
[01:10:14] don't
[01:10:15] fret the
[01:10:16] small stuff.
[01:10:17] They'll
[01:10:18] pass on
[01:10:18] and become
[01:10:19] a memory
[01:10:20] or you'll
[01:10:21] forget about
[01:10:21] it.
[01:10:22] Is there
[01:10:23] anything else
[01:10:23] you wanted
[01:10:24] to share
[01:10:24] about your
[01:10:25] Subarus or
[01:10:26] your journey?
[01:10:27] There's
[01:10:28] just no
[01:10:28] telling where
[01:10:29] they'll take
[01:10:29] me.
[01:10:30] There's
[01:10:30] always going
[01:10:31] to be a
[01:10:31] surprise,
[01:10:32] I think,
[01:10:32] you know.
[01:10:33] And I
[01:10:34] doubt the
[01:10:34] modifications
[01:10:34] are going
[01:10:35] to stop.
[01:10:36] One
[01:10:37] thing I'm
[01:10:37] trying to
[01:10:38] decide is,
[01:10:38] do I want
[01:10:39] to go with
[01:10:39] methods
[01:10:40] that I had
[01:10:41] on the
[01:10:43] 14 or
[01:10:45] stick with
[01:10:45] my stock
[01:10:45] wheels and
[01:10:46] go with
[01:10:46] bigger tires.
[01:10:48] The stock
[01:10:48] wheels are
[01:10:49] pretty nice.
[01:10:50] They are.
[01:10:51] The methods
[01:10:52] will look
[01:10:52] good too.
[01:10:53] Oh yeah,
[01:10:54] definitely.
[01:10:55] They always
[01:10:55] look good.
[01:10:56] Alrighty.
[01:10:58] Yeah,
[01:10:58] well it's
[01:10:59] great having
[01:10:59] you on the
[01:11:00] podcast.
[01:11:01] Again,
[01:11:01] thank you for
[01:11:01] taking the
[01:11:02] time.
[01:11:02] Enjoy the
[01:11:03] rest of
[01:11:03] your evening.
[01:11:04] You too.
[01:11:05] It's late
[01:11:06] for you.
[01:11:07] Yeah,
[01:11:07] it's okay.
[01:11:08] Alright.
[01:11:09] Talk to you
[01:11:11] bye.
[01:11:12] Hello
[01:11:12] everybody.
[01:11:12] Thanks again
[01:11:13] for tuning
[01:11:14] in to
[01:11:14] another
[01:11:14] episode of
[01:11:15] the
[01:11:15] SubianU
[01:11:16] podcast.
[01:11:16] If you're
[01:11:17] not doing
[01:11:17] so,
[01:11:18] go give
[01:11:18] Betsy
[01:11:19] Basaltek
[01:11:20] Outback
[01:11:21] a follow
[01:11:21] on Instagram
[01:11:22] and check
[01:11:23] out her
[01:11:24] build.
[01:11:25] She hasn't
[01:11:25] had her
[01:11:26] Outback
[01:11:27] wilderness
[01:11:27] for too
[01:11:28] long,
[01:11:28] so I'm
[01:11:29] sure there's
[01:11:29] going to
[01:11:29] be more
[01:11:30] to come,
[01:11:30] so be
[01:11:31] sure to
[01:11:31] follow along
[01:11:32] to see
[01:11:33] where her
[01:11:34] build
[01:11:34] goes.
[01:11:35] And thank
[01:11:36] you again
[01:11:36] Betsy for
[01:11:37] taking the
[01:11:37] time to
[01:11:38] record with
[01:11:38] me and be
[01:11:39] a guest
[01:11:39] on the
[01:11:40] podcast.
[01:11:40] So,
[01:11:41] again,
[01:11:42] be sure to
[01:11:42] tune in
[01:11:43] next Monday
[01:11:44] for the
[01:11:45] bonus episode
[01:11:46] from
[01:11:48] SubiFest
[01:11:48] Texas.
[01:11:49] So,
[01:11:50] it's going
[01:11:50] to be a
[01:11:51] good one,
[01:11:51] it's going
[01:11:51] to be a
[01:11:52] lot of
[01:11:52] content,
[01:11:53] and you'll
[01:11:54] get to
[01:11:55] hear my
[01:11:56] story and
[01:11:57] what all
[01:11:58] went on at
[01:11:59] SubiFest
[01:11:59] Texas.
[01:11:59] So,
[01:12:00] there's a
[01:12:00] lot to
[01:12:01] share and
[01:12:01] some great
[01:12:02] conversations.
[01:12:03] So,
[01:12:03] anyway,
[01:12:04] have a
[01:12:04] great week.
[01:12:05] We'll
[01:12:05] see you
[01:12:05] next
[01:12:06] Monday.

[01:12:53] That's all
[01:12:54] for this
[01:12:54] week.
[02:14:19] Like their
[02:14:20] audio doesn't
[02:14:21] come through
[02:14:22] and then like
[02:14:23] if they leave
[02:14:23] and then come
[02:14:24] back,
[02:14:24] then it'll
[02:14:25] work.
[02:14:25] I don't know
[02:14:26] why it does
[02:14:26] that sometimes,
[02:14:27] but yours
[02:14:27] came through
[02:14:28] right away.
[02:14:31] So that's
[02:14:31] good.
[02:14:32] Sorry for
[02:14:33] being tardy.
[02:14:35] It's been
[02:14:35] happens.
[02:14:37] Yeah,
[02:14:37] it's been quite
[02:14:37] a day.
[02:14:38] It's been
[02:14:39] a very
[02:14:39] stressful day
[02:14:40] at work.
[02:14:41] And then I
[02:14:41] had to send
[02:14:42] my car to
[02:14:43] the shop
[02:14:43] today.
[02:14:45] So it's
[02:14:46] just been
[02:14:46] kind of
[02:14:49] but we're
[02:14:49] here now.
[02:14:53] So how's
[02:14:53] your day
[02:14:54] been?
[02:14:56] Not too
[02:14:56] bad.
[02:14:57] Yeah,
[02:14:57] that's
[02:14:57] good.
[02:14:58] Well,
[02:14:59] I'm excited
[02:14:59] to talk
[02:15:00] to you
[02:15:00] because I
[02:15:01] first heard
[02:15:01] about you
[02:15:02] when I
[02:15:03] had,
[02:15:05] what's
[02:15:05] her name
[02:15:05] on ride
[02:15:06] or die
[02:15:06] design
[02:15:06] when I
[02:15:07] had Nicole
[02:15:07] on and
[02:15:08] she said
[02:15:09] that she
[02:15:09] had met
[02:15:10] you in
[02:15:10] person
[02:15:11] and that
[02:15:12] like at
[02:15:13] a meetup
[02:15:14] or something
[02:15:15] and you
[02:15:15] were.
[02:15:16] It was a
[02:15:16] car show.
[02:15:17] Yeah.
[02:15:17] And I
[02:15:19] think she
[02:15:19] really just
[02:15:20] only saw
[02:15:21] the 14th.
[02:15:22] Oh,
[02:15:23] okay.
[02:15:25] Yeah,
[02:15:27] and weren't
[02:15:27] you one
[02:15:27] of the
[02:15:27] first
[02:15:29] Subarus
[02:15:29] that she
[02:15:29] did?
[02:15:31] I don't
[02:15:32] know.
[02:15:32] Oh,
[02:15:33] okay.
[02:15:34] But she
[02:15:34] did both
[02:15:36] of mine.
[02:15:37] Oh,
[02:15:37] okay.
[02:15:38] Gotcha.
[02:15:38] And now
[02:15:38] all three.
[02:15:40] Yeah,
[02:15:40] yeah.
[02:15:41] I know
[02:15:42] you have
[02:15:42] more than
[02:15:42] one Subaru.
[02:15:44] Oh,
[02:15:44] I'm on
[02:15:45] number six.
[02:15:46] Yeah,
[02:15:46] I know.
[02:15:47] That's going
[02:15:47] to be
[02:15:47] interesting
[02:15:48] to get
[02:15:48] into that
[02:15:48] because
[02:15:49] like this
[02:15:50] is my
[02:15:51] like I
[02:15:51] I'm on
[02:15:52] my first
[02:15:52] Subaru.
[02:15:53] I didn't
[02:15:53] even know
[02:15:54] much about
[02:15:54] Subaru and
[02:15:55] I've had
[02:15:55] mine for
[02:15:56] what's it
[02:15:57] been like
[02:15:58] a little
[02:15:59] over four
[02:15:59] years now
[02:16:00] and I
[02:16:01] get people
[02:16:02] on and
[02:16:02] they're like
[02:16:03] oh,
[02:16:03] like eight
[02:16:04] or nine
[02:16:05] like what?
[02:16:07] So
[02:16:07] that's cool.
[02:16:09] Well,
[02:16:10] you'll see
[02:16:11] common
[02:16:12] similarities
[02:16:13] with me
[02:16:14] and you.
[02:16:15] Okay.
[02:16:15] I never
[02:16:16] heard of
[02:16:16] the brand.
[02:16:17] Yeah.
[02:16:18] Yeah.
[02:16:18] Yeah.
[02:16:19] I'd heard
[02:16:19] of them
[02:16:20] a long
[02:16:20] time ago.
[02:16:21] Like I
[02:16:21] actually went
[02:16:22] with one
[02:16:22] of my
[02:16:22] friends
[02:16:23] back.
[02:16:24] I don't
[02:16:24] know,
[02:16:24] like years
[02:16:25] ago before
[02:16:25] we had
[02:16:25] kids and
[02:16:27] he was
[02:16:28] like,
[02:16:28] oh,
[02:16:28] I want to
[02:16:29] go look
[02:16:29] at a
[02:16:29] new car.
[02:16:30] I'm
[02:16:30] like,
[02:16:30] okay.
[02:16:30] And I
[02:16:30] said,
[02:16:31] he said,
[02:16:31] I'm going
[02:16:31] to go
[02:16:31] look at
[02:16:32] a Subaru.
[02:16:33] And I
[02:16:33] don't
[02:16:33] remember
[02:16:34] which one
[02:16:34] he was
[02:16:34] looking
[02:16:35] at back
[02:16:35] then,
[02:16:36] but I
[02:16:37] was
[02:16:37] like,
[02:16:38] man,
[02:16:38] these cars
[02:16:39] are ugly.
[02:16:41] And because
[02:16:45] I
[02:16:46] remembered
[02:16:46] them and
[02:16:47] I remembered
[02:16:48] that they
[02:16:48] were kind
[02:16:49] of funky.
[02:16:50] No,
[02:16:50] they're quirky.
[02:16:52] Yes.
[02:16:52] That's
[02:16:53] actually a
[02:16:53] very,
[02:16:53] that's a
[02:16:54] much better
[02:16:54] word for
[02:16:55] it.
[02:16:56] They're more
[02:16:56] quirky.
[02:16:57] Yeah.
[02:16:58] With
[02:16:59] everything
[02:16:59] about
[02:16:59] them.
[02:17:00] Oh,
[02:17:00] yeah.
[02:17:01] Subaru,
[02:17:01] I mean,
[02:17:02] now it's
[02:17:02] like,
[02:17:02] Subarus are
[02:17:03] awesome.
[02:17:03] I love
[02:17:03] them.
[02:17:04] You know,
[02:17:04] it's
[02:17:04] like you
[02:17:05] see an
[02:17:05] old one
[02:17:05] and it's
[02:17:06] like,
[02:17:06] oh,
[02:17:06] that's
[02:17:06] so cool.
[02:17:07] Oh,
[02:17:08] I got
[02:17:09] friends
[02:17:09] who got
[02:17:10] brats.
[02:17:12] Yeah,
[02:17:13] the brats
[02:17:13] are cool.
[02:17:14] they wanted
[02:17:15] original
[02:17:15] legacies.
[02:17:17] Yeah,
[02:17:18] there's
[02:17:19] like so
[02:17:20] many different
[02:17:20] models and
[02:17:22] it's,
[02:17:23] have you
[02:17:23] been to
[02:17:23] any,
[02:17:24] oh,
[02:17:24] yeah,
[02:17:24] that's
[02:17:24] right,
[02:17:24] you went
[02:17:24] to Big
[02:17:25] Northwest.
[02:17:26] So you've
[02:17:26] seen like
[02:17:26] all of them.
[02:17:28] Yeah,
[02:17:28] you've seen
[02:17:29] some of the
[02:17:29] crazy builds.
[02:17:32] Well,
[02:17:32] I have a
[02:17:33] dealership here
[02:17:33] that has
[02:17:33] a 360.
[02:17:35] Oh,
[02:17:35] really?
[02:17:36] There you
[02:17:37] go.
[02:17:37] Nice.
[02:17:37] Yeah.
[02:17:38] That's
[02:17:39] what
[02:17:41] Consumer Reports
[02:17:42] considers
[02:17:42] the most
[02:17:44] unsafe
[02:17:45] car on
[02:17:46] the road.
[02:17:47] Yeah.
[02:17:48] Yeah.
[02:17:48] And now
[02:17:49] look at
[02:17:49] them.
[02:17:50] Yeah.
[02:17:51] Yeah.
[02:17:52] It's
[02:17:52] how they
[02:17:53] praise them.
[02:17:53] I know.
[02:17:54] I mean,
[02:17:54] I've had
[02:17:55] people on
[02:17:55] the podcast
[02:17:56] that got
[02:17:56] into
[02:17:56] accidents
[02:17:57] and they
[02:17:58] said if
[02:17:58] I didn't
[02:17:59] have a
[02:17:59] Subaru,
[02:18:00] I'm pretty
[02:18:00] sure I
[02:18:01] wouldn't have
[02:18:01] walked away
[02:18:01] from it.
[02:18:03] And then
[02:18:04] there was
[02:18:04] like somebody
[02:18:05] else and
[02:18:05] it was
[02:18:06] like they
[02:18:06] were married
[02:18:07] and the
[02:18:07] husband got
[02:18:08] into an
[02:18:08] accident and
[02:18:09] the wife
[02:18:09] was like,
[02:18:10] there's you
[02:18:10] don't have
[02:18:11] an option.
[02:18:11] You're getting
[02:18:12] another Subaru
[02:18:12] because it
[02:18:13] saved your
[02:18:14] life.
[02:18:15] Well,
[02:18:15] now my
[02:18:17] mom's got
[02:18:17] one and
[02:18:18] my stepdad
[02:18:18] has one.
[02:18:19] Oh,
[02:18:20] nice.
[02:18:20] Yeah.
[02:18:20] My daughter
[02:18:21] has a
[02:18:21] third gen
[02:18:22] Crosstrek and
[02:18:23] my son has
[02:18:23] a 2010
[02:18:24] Outback.
[02:18:26] My mom's
[02:18:26] got a
[02:18:27] 2018 Outback
[02:18:28] 3.6R.
[02:18:29] Hmm.
[02:18:30] That's what my
[02:18:30] son has.
[02:18:31] He has a
[02:18:31] 3.6R.
[02:18:32] A what?
[02:18:33] A touring.
[02:18:35] Oh,
[02:18:35] nice.
[02:18:36] The top
[02:18:36] trim.
[02:18:37] Yeah.
[02:18:39] And my
[02:18:39] stepdad
[02:18:40] got a
[02:18:41] 24
[02:18:42] Crosstrek
[02:18:43] Sport.
[02:18:43] Oh,
[02:18:44] nice.
[02:18:46] And
[02:18:46] now my
[02:18:48] future
[02:18:49] sister-in-law
[02:18:50] has an
[02:18:51] Outback.
[02:18:51] Oh,
[02:18:52] nice.
[02:18:53] Yeah.
[02:18:53] Yeah.
[02:18:54] She has a
[02:18:54] 21.
[02:18:55] All in the
[02:18:56] family.
[02:18:57] Well,
[02:18:59] well,
[02:19:00] I doubt
[02:19:01] I'll get
[02:19:01] my brother
[02:19:02] into it.
[02:19:03] Yeah.
[02:19:03] I think he
[02:19:03] secretly
[02:19:04] likes them.
[02:19:05] Yeah.
[02:19:06] Well,
[02:19:07] he's driven
[02:19:07] mine.
[02:19:08] Yeah.
[02:19:09] My brother
[02:19:10] sorry,
[02:19:11] go ahead.
[02:19:11] Yeah.
[02:19:12] He
[02:19:13] owns
[02:19:14] Jeeps.
[02:19:15] Oh,
[02:19:16] oh,
[02:19:16] a Jeep
[02:19:16] person.
[02:19:18] Yes.
[02:19:19] But he's
[02:19:19] driven the
[02:19:20] wilderness.
[02:19:21] Yeah.
[02:19:21] He's like,
[02:19:22] that's a
[02:19:22] cool car.
[02:19:24] Yeah,
[02:19:24] they are.
[02:19:25] They're very
[02:19:26] nice.
[02:19:26] I mean,
[02:19:27] they're so
[02:19:28] capable,
[02:19:28] even,
[02:19:29] I mean,
[02:19:29] the wilderness
[02:19:30] is very
[02:19:31] capable,
[02:19:31] you know,
[02:19:32] just stock.
[02:19:33] But even
[02:19:34] other Subarus
[02:19:35] are very
[02:19:36] capable of
[02:19:36] stock.
[02:19:37] Oh,
[02:19:38] yeah.
[02:19:39] My brother
[02:19:40] just bought
[02:19:40] a Tesla.
[02:19:43] No,
[02:19:43] none of my
[02:19:44] family has
[02:19:44] electric.
[02:19:45] Yeah.
[02:19:46] It's,
[02:19:47] uh,
[02:19:48] I listened
[02:19:49] to Elon Musk's
[02:19:50] audio book
[02:19:51] not too long
[02:19:51] ago.
[02:19:52] So it was
[02:19:53] really,
[02:19:54] really good.
[02:19:54] He's nuts,
[02:19:56] but he's
[02:19:56] also very
[02:19:57] innovative.
[02:19:59] He also,
[02:20:00] he's a
[02:20:00] very,
[02:20:01] very hard
[02:20:01] worker.
[02:20:02] He pushes
[02:20:02] the people
[02:20:03] under him
[02:20:03] to work
[02:20:04] very hard,
[02:20:04] but they
[02:20:05] get stuff
[02:20:05] done and
[02:20:06] they get
[02:20:06] things done.
[02:20:07] He's mostly
[02:20:07] nuts.
[02:20:08] Huh?
[02:20:08] He's mostly
[02:20:09] nuts.
[02:20:10] Yeah.
[02:20:10] But he's,
[02:20:11] he's very
[02:20:12] smart.
[02:20:13] And,
[02:20:14] uh,
[02:20:14] so like,
[02:20:15] because I've
[02:20:16] listened to
[02:20:16] his book,
[02:20:16] like I like
[02:20:17] Tesla's a
[02:20:18] lot more
[02:20:18] than I did
[02:20:18] before.
[02:20:20] And driving
[02:20:21] one,
[02:20:22] those things
[02:20:23] are very,
[02:20:24] very fast.
[02:20:25] It's,
[02:20:26] it's,
[02:20:26] it's a
[02:20:27] different
[02:20:27] experience,
[02:20:28] but it's
[02:20:29] fun.
[02:20:30] There's a
[02:20:31] book that
[02:20:31] you should
[02:20:31] read.
[02:20:32] Yeah.
[02:20:33] If you're
[02:20:33] really interested
[02:20:33] in it.
[02:20:34] What's
[02:20:35] that?
[02:20:36] Um,
[02:20:38] it's an
[02:20:39] ebook,
[02:20:41] but it's
[02:20:41] about Subaru's
[02:20:42] journey.
[02:20:43] Oh,
[02:20:43] nice.
[02:20:44] I forget
[02:20:45] the name
[02:20:45] of it.
[02:20:46] I think
[02:20:46] it's,
[02:20:48] I'll have
[02:20:48] to email
[02:20:49] it to you.
[02:20:50] Oh,
[02:20:50] okay.
[02:20:50] It's about
[02:20:51] how they
[02:20:52] brought it
[02:20:53] to the
[02:20:53] U S.
[02:20:54] Yeah,
[02:20:54] that would
[02:20:54] be really
[02:20:55] interesting.
[02:20:56] It's really,
[02:20:57] really interesting.
[02:20:58] Cool.
[02:20:58] Well,
[02:20:59] thank you.
[02:21:00] Yeah,
[02:21:00] it's,
[02:21:02] you get a
[02:21:03] better understanding
[02:21:04] where they've
[02:21:04] been.
[02:21:05] Yeah.
[02:21:05] Yeah.
[02:21:06] I mean,
[02:21:06] it's a good
[02:21:06] company too.
[02:21:09] They used
[02:21:10] to be struggle.
[02:21:11] Yeah.
[02:21:13] Badly struggle.
[02:21:14] Yeah.
[02:21:15] Now they're,
[02:21:16] um,
[02:21:16] they're up
[02:21:17] there.
[02:21:18] Uh,
[02:21:19] they're not,
[02:21:19] they're like number
[02:21:20] seven in size
[02:21:21] of brands.
[02:21:21] Yeah.
[02:21:22] I mean,
[02:21:22] yeah.
[02:21:22] I mean,
[02:21:22] they're a small,
[02:21:23] they're small compared
[02:21:24] to Ford and people.
[02:21:26] Yeah.
[02:21:26] There's,
[02:21:26] I tell them they're
[02:21:27] still small,
[02:21:28] but they're still
[02:21:29] doing well.
[02:21:30] They're still around.
[02:21:31] People know what
[02:21:32] they are,
[02:21:33] especially out
[02:21:33] here.
[02:21:34] Yeah.
[02:21:35] Yeah.
[02:21:35] cause you live
[02:21:36] in Colorado,
[02:21:36] right?
[02:21:37] Yeah.
[02:21:38] I love
[02:21:39] Colorado.
[02:21:40] I started my
[02:21:40] journey in
[02:21:41] Colorado.
[02:21:42] That was where I,
[02:21:43] Oregon.
[02:21:44] That was my first
[02:21:45] off-roading experience
[02:21:46] was in Colorado.
[02:21:47] I drove me and
[02:21:48] my kids and my,
[02:21:50] my daughter's fiancee
[02:21:52] at the time,
[02:21:53] we drove out to
[02:21:54] Colorado and met
[02:21:55] up with a couple
[02:21:56] of guys that own
[02:21:57] outbacks and they
[02:21:59] took us on some
[02:22:00] trails and I was
[02:22:01] ruined after that
[02:22:02] because I live in
[02:22:03] Houston and there's
[02:22:04] nothing out here.
[02:22:07] I was born in
[02:22:08] Houston.
[02:22:09] Really?
[02:22:10] Me too.
[02:22:11] Where at?
[02:22:14] West University.
[02:22:16] Okay.
[02:22:16] How long do you
[02:22:17] live in Houston?
[02:22:18] 10 years.
[02:22:19] Oh.
[02:22:20] Then I moved to
[02:22:21] a little town
[02:22:21] outside of,
[02:22:22] outside of Houston.
[02:22:24] Where at?
[02:22:25] Where did I make
[02:22:26] Bluebell?
[02:22:27] Oh,
[02:22:28] Brenham.
[02:22:29] Brenham.
[02:22:29] Yeah.
[02:22:31] Yep.
[02:22:31] Been there.
[02:22:33] So that's where I
[02:22:34] grew up and then I
[02:22:35] went off to school
[02:22:36] in Colorado.
[02:22:36] Small world.
[02:22:37] I'm out of here.
[02:22:39] Yeah.
[02:22:40] Oh,
[02:22:41] yeah.
[02:22:41] I would,
[02:22:42] I've been to
[02:22:42] Colorado a few
[02:22:43] times and that's
[02:22:44] definitely a place
[02:22:45] I would love to
[02:22:45] live or at least
[02:22:47] visit more often.
[02:22:48] It's beautiful.
[02:22:51] I mean,
[02:22:52] any place that I've,
[02:22:53] because like I used
[02:22:53] to travel for my
[02:22:54] old job and any
[02:22:55] place that we would
[02:22:56] travel to where I
[02:22:57] would go outside and
[02:22:58] see mountains,
[02:22:59] I'm just like,
[02:23:00] I could totally live
[02:23:02] here.
[02:23:02] Like,
[02:23:02] I don't know how
[02:23:03] I could ever get
[02:23:04] tired of walking
[02:23:05] outside and seeing
[02:23:05] mountains because
[02:23:06] mountains are like my
[02:23:07] favorite thing on
[02:23:08] earth.
[02:23:08] They're so beautiful.
[02:23:10] There's one thing I
[02:23:11] get tired of though.
[02:23:13] Snow.
[02:23:14] Yeah.
[02:23:15] Yeah.
[02:23:15] I get tired of it.
[02:23:16] Yeah.
[02:23:17] I,
[02:23:18] I know.
[02:23:18] By March,
[02:23:19] I'm like,
[02:23:19] I'm sick of it.
[02:23:22] Yeah.
[02:23:23] I've heard that.
[02:23:25] So.
[02:23:25] But then after
[02:23:26] Colorado,
[02:23:26] I moved to Oregon.
[02:23:28] Oh,
[02:23:28] and then back to
[02:23:29] Colorado.
[02:23:30] Yep.
[02:23:31] Nice.
[02:23:33] Oregon's beautiful too.
[02:23:35] I prefer Oregon
[02:23:36] sometimes.
[02:23:37] Yeah.
[02:23:38] Yeah.
[02:23:38] Because you get the
[02:23:39] coast.
[02:23:39] Yeah.
[02:23:41] Yeah.
[02:23:41] True.
[02:23:43] Oh,
[02:23:44] cool.
[02:23:44] Well,
[02:23:44] you want to,
[02:23:45] you want to go ahead
[02:23:46] and get this started?
[02:23:48] Sure.
[02:23:49] Okay.
[02:23:50] Yeah.
[02:23:51] You'll get to learn
[02:23:51] the whole journey.
[02:23:53] No,
[02:23:53] that's good.
[02:23:54] That's good.
[02:23:55] Uh,
[02:23:56] I've had a thousand
[02:23:57] followers a week ago.
[02:23:59] Oh,
[02:23:59] nice.
[02:24:00] There you go.
[02:24:01] 1015.
[02:24:02] There you go.
[02:24:04] That's a nice,
[02:24:04] that's a nice milestone.
[02:24:07] Yeah.
[02:24:07] And I was like,
[02:24:08] wow,
[02:24:09] finally hit it.
[02:24:11] Yeah.
[02:24:12] Uh,
[02:24:12] so yeah,
[02:24:13] so you can like just read
[02:24:14] off the little intro thing,
[02:24:16] either the way I have it
[02:24:17] or however you want to.
[02:24:19] Yeah.
[02:24:19] And then,
[02:24:19] uh,
[02:24:19] I'm going to see if I can
[02:24:20] find that.
[02:24:22] Oh,
[02:24:23] yeah.
[02:24:24] Before we start.
[02:24:25] Okay.
[02:24:26] If,
[02:24:27] before I lose it,
[02:24:37] it's going to take me a
[02:24:38] little bit.
[02:25:08] That's like traction
[02:25:10] control.
[02:25:10] That's the name of it.
[02:25:12] Oh,
[02:25:12] cool.
[02:25:14] Traction control or
[02:25:15] something like that.
[02:25:18] It starts out the
[02:25:20] sixties and goes to the
[02:25:21] nineties.
[02:25:22] Nice.
[02:25:24] Yeah.
[02:25:24] Any,
[02:25:25] let's get this started.
[02:25:26] I just couldn't,
[02:25:27] I wanted to remember
[02:25:28] what it was.
[02:25:29] Yeah.
[02:25:30] It's a,
[02:25:30] that'd be interesting
[02:25:31] to check it out.
[02:25:32] Yeah.
[02:25:33] It's just a little
[02:25:34] Kindle book.
[02:25:35] Cool.
[02:25:42] Okay.
[02:25:42] It's been a while
[02:25:42] since I've done a podcast.
[02:25:44] Oh yeah.
[02:25:45] You've been on a podcast
[02:25:46] before.
[02:25:47] A long time ago.
[02:25:48] Oh,
[02:25:48] that's cool.
[02:25:50] Yeah.
[02:25:52] All right.
[02:25:53] You ready?
[02:25:54] I'm ready.
