[00:00:10] This is Izzy.
[00:00:11] And this is Jacob. And you're listening to episode 193 of the Subie & You podcast.
[00:00:18] Hey everybody, welcome back to the Subie & You podcast. I took a break at the end of 2024.
[00:00:24] And now, let's bring on the very first episode of 2025. My guests Izzy and Jacob are returning guests.
[00:00:35] I've had them on before and had a chance to talk to them back then.
[00:00:40] But we've been talking behind the scenes for a while about Jacob and Izzy doing Rallycross
[00:00:47] and having a lot of fun with their daily driven Subarus that they also Rallycross.
[00:00:52] And we've been talking about it for months while the season's been going on.
[00:00:56] And now that the season is over, I decided to go ahead and get them on to talk about the season,
[00:01:02] talk about their cars, and just kind of catch up since they haven't been on in over a year and a half.
[00:01:07] So, welcome back, Izzy and Jacob.
[00:01:10] I hope you all had a great holiday season and that the new year is getting kicked off great.
[00:01:17] My Christmas was not so great because I was sick. I got really sick on Christmas Eve.
[00:01:25] That was when it was the worst and I had a hundred and two fever. That was not fun.
[00:01:31] And right now, I'm still dealing with some congestion that's just been lingering and just won't go away.
[00:01:37] And it's really annoying. But new year was a little bit better.
[00:01:41] Didn't really do anything. I just stayed at home, but it was nice and chill.
[00:01:45] And I'm glad to be feeling better. I'm glad to see or I'm hopeful to see what 2025 will bring for everybody.
[00:01:53] I've never really been one to like make resolutions or set goals or anything like that.
[00:02:00] I just kind of go with it and see where life takes me.
[00:02:03] And, you know, sometimes we can make things happen.
[00:02:06] Sometimes we can put intentions out there and things can happen for us and come to us.
[00:02:12] So whether you like to plan and set goals and set intentions or you just kind of go where life takes you,
[00:02:19] may we all have a wonderful new year and many, many blessings in many forms.
[00:02:26] The SUBI and YOU podcast is brought to you by Eccentric Designs.

[00:03:21] Decals can really, really help make it stand out and be different.
[00:03:25] And it's very cost effective too.
[00:03:28] This episode is also brought to you by SubaruGear.com.

[00:04:31] All right, if you haven't heard this yet, here you are.
[00:04:34] This is it.
[00:04:35] This is where you're going to hear it.
[00:04:36] 48 Hours of Tri-State is celebrating the 24th annual drive.
[00:04:41] It's a Subaru enthusiast drive for charity.
[00:04:45] It's for Make-A-Wish Foundation, New Jersey.
[00:04:48] This is such a great event to attend and be a part of.
[00:04:53] It's a really, really great charity that they're supporting.
[00:04:56] And you have the opportunity to meet a lot of people, do some really incredible driving around the Tri-State area.
[00:05:05] And it's just, it's a lot of fun.
[00:05:07] A lot of Subarus, a lot of people, a great charity, a great event, and it's a lot of fun.
[00:05:14] I went last year at the beginning of 2024, and I really had a great time.
[00:05:21] It was a lot of fun, and I highly recommend attending.
[00:05:25] I was able to meet some people that I'd been chatting with for a really long time.
[00:05:30] Got to meet them in person.
[00:05:32] I was able to finally go to Subaru of America, to the headquarters, see some people from SOA that I hadn't seen in a while, and met some new people.
[00:05:40] So it's just, it's a really, really great event.
[00:05:43] If you're in the Tri-State area, go check it out.
[00:05:47] You can go to 48hrs.info, and it'll automatically take you to the 24th annual page, where you can get all of the information about the event.
[00:05:58] The annual drive includes about 1,100 miles of driving spread over three days.
[00:06:04] There's all different ages of people that attend, and they caravan in groups of 15 to 20 cars and communicate from car to car via CB radios.
[00:06:14] So that's a really fun experience, too.
[00:06:17] And to give you a little bit of information directly from the website, they will begin their charity drive check-in and dinner at or near Subaru of America on Thursday night.
[00:06:26] Friday morning, the driver's meeting starts at Make-A-Wish, New Jersey, followed by a tour of their castle and the annual door prize raffle, followed by lunch on site.
[00:06:37] From there, they will shoot out towards Winchester, Virginia on Friday.
[00:06:42] After that, they will spend Saturday exploring the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia and West Virginia with a closing dinner held near Exton, PA.
[00:06:51] So again, go check out the website 48hrs.info to find out what it's all about.
[00:06:58] You can read through it.
[00:06:59] You can click through the links and just go make it out there if you can.
[00:07:03] If you can't, plan to go next year.
[00:07:05] So I highly recommend that everybody checks it out and goes and participates at least once.
[00:07:11] But if this year is the year, even better.
[00:07:14] Now, with all that being said, let's get into this first episode of the Sue B&U podcast in 2025 with Izzy and Jacob.
[00:07:24] So here we go.
[00:07:37] I know your guests, you've been on here before again, but go ahead and introduce yourselves to everybody again for those that may be listening for the first time.
[00:07:46] Hi, my name is Isabel Kelly.
[00:07:48] I'm usually known as Izzy.
[00:07:49] I'm Jacob Moll, Redneck with Tech on Instagram.
[00:07:52] And Izzy is Monster Mom on Instagram.
[00:07:57] All right.
[00:07:58] Yeah, you guys have been busy.
[00:07:59] Really busy.
[00:08:00] Oh my God.
[00:08:01] We've been super busy with just a lot of racing, work, life, everything.
[00:08:09] So.
[00:08:10] Well, it's nice to have you guys back on the podcast again.
[00:08:13] I'm glad you invited us back.
[00:08:16] Yeah.
[00:08:16] Well, I know I had mentioned it a while back that with the rally season and everything and all the fun racing that you've been doing, it'd be cool to have you back on to talk about it.
[00:08:27] So I know that's kind of been going back and forth for several months.
[00:08:32] So here we are.
[00:08:34] And the, I mean, the season was, oh gosh, how many races?
[00:08:38] Three, four, five, six races.
[00:08:42] And it started what?
[00:08:44] April, February, April.
[00:08:46] Yeah, something like that.
[00:08:47] Or March.
[00:08:48] I think it was March area.
[00:08:49] And then, uh, into September.
[00:08:51] So like there is a month or two that we didn't have a race.
[00:08:54] So we'd be able to recoup, but it was a race a month for competition.
[00:08:58] Yeah.
[00:08:59] Nice.
[00:08:59] Yeah.
[00:09:00] So are y'all racing all at the same track or are you doing it in different spots?
[00:09:08] So each race is at a different venue, except for this season, we got to race at Dirtfish twice.
[00:09:13] Oh, okay.
[00:09:14] Nice.
[00:09:14] Which was, that was a treat.
[00:09:17] Yeah.
[00:09:18] It's always great to race at Dirtfish.
[00:09:19] Cause we do one big event every year.
[00:09:22] That's called Rallycross Fest and there's 200 people racing.
[00:09:26] Oh, that's crazy.
[00:09:27] And so it's across two days.
[00:09:29] It's packed.
[00:09:30] It's busy.
[00:09:31] People are running around like chickens with their heads cut off.
[00:09:33] But in May we did an event called mayhem at the mill because obviously Dirtfish is an old sawmill.
[00:09:40] It was maybe a hundred people.
[00:09:44] Perhaps.
[00:09:45] Yeah, it was, yeah, it was a lot smaller.
[00:09:47] And the cool thing is we kind of set it up like a mini stage rally.
[00:09:50] So we raced one course.
[00:09:54] We transited to the next course.
[00:09:56] So we can open the doors.
[00:09:57] We can get out of the car.
[00:09:59] You had to, it was like, you're in a controlled timing zone.
[00:10:02] You had to transit to the next part, do the next course, and then you'd be released to a non controlled zone.
[00:10:09] Yeah.
[00:10:10] Nice.
[00:10:10] With the kind of racing that y'all do, can you explain it as far as like, I guess the, like what kind of racing you do and what it's, I guess what the organization is and like how it's structured and what some of the like basic rules are for people who may not know exactly what kind of racing you do.
[00:10:32] What kind of race?
[00:10:32] Cause I know, you know, we've seen like rally cross on, on launch control and then you see the stage rally, like Travis Pastrana and Brandon Semenik and all those guys do.
[00:10:42] So what kind of rally are y'all doing?
[00:10:46] Uh, so the rally cross that we do, uh, is basically autocross on mixed surface.
[00:10:53] So autocross is essentially a closed course, uh, delineated with cones and it's, uh, just you versus the clock.
[00:11:00] So it's just one car at a time.
[00:11:02] Pretty much, you know, you're never going to be rubbing up against another car.
[00:11:06] Yep.
[00:11:07] And so it's known as American rally cross cause in Europe and other countries rally cross is usually wheel to wheel.
[00:11:15] You have six cars on the track at one time and you're doing multiple laps.
[00:11:20] Whereas our, uh, American rally cross that we do here in the grassroots stuff, it's a point A to point B.
[00:11:28] One car is released at a time.
[00:11:31] They might have one or two cars spaced out on the track at the same time, just to get more cars going, but it is purely you versus the clock.
[00:11:39] And so with our rally cross, there are penalties of course, uh, just like an autocross, some autocross stuff.
[00:11:46] It's a, you hit a cone, your time is voided, but ours, if you hit a cone, a single cone, a pointer, uh, that's standing up, it's a two second penalty, uh, with, and then.
[00:11:58] There's gates sometimes where you have cones on either, uh, that are spaced out and you're supposed to go between the two cones.
[00:12:04] If you miss that gate, you go around it.
[00:12:07] It's a 10 second penalty.
[00:12:08] Oh, wow.
[00:12:09] It can be really, really brutal.
[00:12:11] Yeah.
[00:12:11] And you can have an entire like event podium standing be based off of one gate.
[00:12:18] Wow.
[00:12:19] Yeah.
[00:12:20] How long are the tracks?
[00:12:22] I've seen it happen.
[00:12:22] Oh, I'm sure.
[00:12:24] Yeah.
[00:12:24] That's gotta be devastating.
[00:12:26] Like, oh, come on.
[00:12:28] Yeah.
[00:12:28] Oh, I say the tracks usually half a mile.
[00:12:31] Oh, okay.
[00:12:31] To a mile.
[00:12:32] Yeah.
[00:12:32] The half mile to a mile.
[00:12:34] Um, we've seen at the shortest, uh, it's a one minute or a sub minute.
[00:12:41] So maybe 50 seconds, uh, would be the average time for somebody to complete the course.
[00:12:47] And we've seen them up to a minute 45, a minute 50.
[00:12:53] Okay.
[00:12:54] Okay.
[00:12:54] And what, what are the ones that y'all are racing on?
[00:12:57] I mean, what are they typically like around a minute?
[00:12:59] Yeah.
[00:13:00] Yeah.
[00:13:00] That's, that's a general rule.
[00:13:01] It's a minute, minute and a half.
[00:13:03] Okay.
[00:13:04] Yeah.
[00:13:04] So you said you did six races this season.
[00:13:07] So how was the season?
[00:13:09] This season was good.
[00:13:11] Last year I finished the season off in the modified all wheel drive turbo class in third place for the season.
[00:13:19] That's not bad.
[00:13:21] This year I came in strong on the very first race at season opener.
[00:13:25] And I took out my very good friend, Luke McLean and managed to get first place for the very first time.
[00:13:32] Very nice.
[00:13:33] Just wait, just on that one race.
[00:13:35] Yeah.
[00:13:36] For that one race.
[00:13:37] Okay.
[00:13:37] And to put it in perspective, my buddy Luke is a madhouse of a driver.
[00:13:42] He is, he can hop in almost any car and he will take first place in almost any class.
[00:13:48] Yeah.
[00:13:48] Or at least probably him.
[00:13:49] Yeah.
[00:13:49] Yeah.
[00:13:50] But I came in super hot first event of the season, took first place.
[00:13:54] And then for my next two races, I got third place, uh, rally cross fest.
[00:14:02] I had some issues and I didn't make any points.
[00:14:05] So I was below 10th and then labor day dirt cross, which was event number five.
[00:14:11] I got second and then, uh, season finale.
[00:14:14] I got fourth, but that ended me up with enough points.
[00:14:20] I took second place for the season.
[00:14:21] Oh, very nice.
[00:14:23] Congratulations.
[00:14:23] Right behind my buddy, Luke.
[00:14:25] I ruined his perfect season.
[00:14:30] And what about you, Izzy?
[00:14:32] Cause you've been doing some racing too, right?
[00:14:34] Yeah, I have.
[00:14:35] I have.
[00:14:36] I'm not quite as talented as Jake is yet, but I am working on finding my talent and things
[00:14:41] are looking, looking pretty up.
[00:14:42] I only got points for season closer, but everyone did notice that, that my racing had picked
[00:14:49] up substantially during that race.
[00:14:51] People were very impressed.
[00:14:52] So.
[00:14:52] Very nice.
[00:14:53] I think as long as I can keep that up, I have some hope for maybe getting closer to the
[00:14:58] podium.
[00:14:59] And you did all six races as well?
[00:15:02] Yes.
[00:15:03] Okay.
[00:15:03] So tell us also what each of you are driving in these races.
[00:15:10] So I'm driving my, uh, lifted and 2.5 liter swapped 2012 Impreza Sport.
[00:15:17] So that puts me in the modified all wheel drive normally aspirated class.
[00:15:21] Okay.
[00:15:21] Yeah.
[00:15:22] And then of course I'm driving my O5 Impreza WRX.
[00:15:26] That is.
[00:15:28] I think gone through it's got a custom set of front coilovers 2010 outback manual transmission
[00:15:35] for the gearing big replica WRC wing on the back.
[00:15:41] And that shoves me all the way into modified all wheel drive turbo class.
[00:15:45] And as far as I remember, my car actually makes the second to least amount of power in the
[00:15:50] class.
[00:15:51] Oh, wow.
[00:15:52] Really?
[00:15:53] Yeah.
[00:15:53] So the crazy thing is, is it's not always about power in the class.
[00:15:57] Everybody thinks in the turbo class, you got to make all the power in the world.
[00:16:00] And it's like, nope.
[00:16:01] Sometimes it's just working on yourself.
[00:16:04] Suspension, hearing and brakes.
[00:16:06] Yeah.
[00:16:07] Cause I mean, you can have a super fast car and a crappy driver, you know?
[00:16:11] So you got to know how to drive, knowing how to drive and drive well and not worrying about
[00:16:17] having the fastest car.
[00:16:19] Well, it also probably helps that we, uh, uh, daily drive both the cars.
[00:16:24] There are dailies.
[00:16:25] Yeah.
[00:16:25] Yeah.
[00:16:25] So you're very, very familiar with them.
[00:16:27] We know how they behave.
[00:16:28] Yeah.
[00:16:28] Yep.
[00:16:29] So Izzy, with your car, when did you swap it for a 2.5?
[00:16:36] Oh man.
[00:16:37] Was that like two years ago?
[00:16:38] It was in March.
[00:16:40] Yeah.
[00:16:40] I think it might've been two years ago.
[00:16:42] Yeah.
[00:16:42] It might've been about two years ago.
[00:16:43] What I did was I swapped it with a 2.5 liter and I just slapped on my two liter camshafts
[00:16:51] to keep the ECM happy.
[00:16:53] And then I got a tune along with it.
[00:16:55] Uh, so that really drastically increased the horsepower and torque output of that engine.
[00:17:00] Now, mind you, that's an FB engine.
[00:17:04] So that's one of the chain drive Valtrain engines.
[00:17:06] It's not like what's in my car, which is an EJ.
[00:17:09] And as far as we knew, we were the first to successfully swap a 2.5 liter into the Impreza Crosstrek,
[00:17:19] the first gen, uh, Crosstrek chassis.
[00:17:24] And since then we've managed to help a lot of other people do the same swaps too, including
[00:17:29] somebody in Jamaica.
[00:17:30] Yeah.
[00:17:31] Whoa.
[00:17:31] Wow.
[00:17:32] Really?
[00:17:32] Yeah.
[00:17:33] There were a few others I think attempted this swap, but I do think that they were using
[00:17:37] the wrong camshafts and just trying to put the, uh, FB 20 sprocket on there, but there's
[00:17:42] no oiling holes through that camshaft that comes on the FB 25.
[00:17:46] So they encountered issues of engine performance and strange noises coming from the engine as
[00:17:51] well.
[00:17:51] Gotcha.
[00:17:52] But as a technician, I just knew already that that camshaft can't work because there's no
[00:17:57] oiling holes in it.
[00:17:58] So that's why I just took the cams out of my original engine, slapped them in there because
[00:18:02] I knew there was no reason for them to not work.
[00:18:05] Yeah.
[00:18:05] That's, uh, when you know what you're doing, you know, it definitely helps.
[00:18:08] And being a technician is, is a huge plus.
[00:18:11] So what else have y'all done to, to your cars?
[00:18:14] Anything else since you've been racing this past season?
[00:18:17] I think my most recent mod is I had put in LSD, uh, rear differential in my car.
[00:18:26] It was from like a 2007 Impreza WRX.
[00:18:30] So the biggest thing is with her chassis, it doesn't come with a limited slip from the
[00:18:35] factory.
[00:18:36] Nothing really after 08, like 08 Impreza up came with a limited slip diff anymore.
[00:18:44] Except STI.
[00:18:45] Yeah.
[00:18:45] Except for the STI.
[00:18:46] Uh, so what we did was we just figured out what the gear ratio to match.
[00:18:50] That way you don't have any binding in the drivetrain.
[00:18:53] And we found that the 06, 07 WRXs have the same gear ratio in the rear diff as the GP
[00:19:01] chassis.
[00:19:03] And so we snagged one of those diffs and put a, uh, OEM limited slips.
[00:19:07] That way, uh, when she applies power, both the rear tires will spin or attempt to spin
[00:19:12] at the same time.
[00:19:14] So that way she doesn't have one tire, just not get any power.
[00:19:19] She can get off the line a lot quicker and get out of corners quicker.
[00:19:22] Yeah.
[00:19:22] Yeah.
[00:19:23] That's definitely helpful.
[00:19:24] And then with Rexy, I went through and I managed to get a bunch of springs from a couple of
[00:19:32] friends, Milton, uh, Milton Salguero, silver bullet XV and stuff like that.
[00:19:38] And re-set up my front coilovers.
[00:19:41] So that way I could have way more travel and stuff like that and have it be better, like
[00:19:48] softness or firmness.
[00:19:50] Mm-hmm.
[00:19:51] And then I also, uh, put some aluminum front control arms on the car.
[00:19:57] Uh, that was after an event that, oh God.
[00:20:03] Yeah.
[00:20:04] Yeah.
[00:20:04] He had a, a weld break on one of his, uh, steel control arms.
[00:20:08] Oh.
[00:20:08] He finished the race, but once, uh, he stopped the momentum changed and it just fell apart.
[00:20:15] Jeez.
[00:20:15] So he got to cross the finish line at least, but then he couldn't move.
[00:20:19] Yeah.
[00:20:20] So that was at, uh, that was at our June race down in Albany, Oregon.
[00:20:26] And I came, there was a small little jump right before the stop box.
[00:20:32] I came in, I hit the jump.
[00:20:34] There was a clunk.
[00:20:35] I heard it.
[00:20:35] I'm like, okay, there's.
[00:20:38] So hit the brakes in the stop box.
[00:20:40] And all of a sudden you just hear this control arm snap and the wheel shoved itself into
[00:20:45] the, uh, back of the passenger front fender.
[00:20:48] That sounds fun.
[00:20:49] Yeah.
[00:20:50] It's fun when you break the car really far from home.
[00:20:52] Yeah.
[00:20:53] Oh yeah.
[00:20:55] I mean, but that's the cool thing about the rally community is we have so many great friends
[00:20:59] and one of them, they put Rexy on their trailer and I drove their car home and they trailered
[00:21:06] Rexy back up from Albany, Oregon, about four and a half hours home.
[00:21:10] Friends are good.
[00:21:11] But that's the cool thing about the rally community.
[00:21:13] Cause I had like three different people say, Hey, hop in my car.
[00:21:17] Cause I was only like my third run out of six and they were like, hop in my car.
[00:21:22] You can finish off in this.
[00:21:23] And then my buddy Luke, who we were, I mean, battling this entire season.
[00:21:28] He's like, get in my car.
[00:21:31] You're finishing it.
[00:21:33] Oh, that's nice.
[00:21:34] And the cool thing is, is, uh, he got to ride with me and I showed him a few things better
[00:21:38] and he ended up beating me.
[00:21:39] Shocker.
[00:21:40] But you guys can still learn from each other.
[00:21:42] But we, we are able to teach things.
[00:21:44] Yeah.
[00:21:45] You teach you to do things.
[00:21:47] Yeah.
[00:21:47] So you, you mentioned, uh, there's six laps.
[00:21:50] So are each of the events six laps or there, do they vary?
[00:21:54] It varies.
[00:21:55] Yeah.
[00:21:55] It varies.
[00:21:56] Sometimes it depends on how hectic things end up getting.
[00:21:59] Like sometimes things get a little hairy and they're like, okay, let's just do three.
[00:22:04] Sometimes when things go very, very smoothly, you get like five laps.
[00:22:07] So that's kind of nice.
[00:22:08] It just kind of depends on how things go.
[00:22:11] Okay.
[00:22:12] And then for the, each of the courses, they change them up whenever you go out to them
[00:22:17] like each year.
[00:22:19] Right.
[00:22:19] Yeah.
[00:22:20] Sometimes there are certain staples that remain like at least with some frequency.
[00:22:26] When we go to Albany, there's a drag strip.
[00:22:29] So we use the drag strip and that's always fun.
[00:22:31] There's like a few typical spots that we use in Bellingham, for example, but they do try
[00:22:36] to change things up enough so that it's always interesting and different.
[00:22:39] Right.
[00:22:40] Yeah.
[00:22:41] The last two years they've managed to incorporate a mega jump on one of the two days.
[00:22:47] Yeah.
[00:22:47] There's some great photos that come out of it.
[00:22:50] Milton Salguero jumping his cross truck last year.
[00:22:52] Yeah.
[00:22:53] I remember that.
[00:22:54] I remember that.
[00:22:55] And then it's really cool.
[00:22:58] Some of the different setups, but yeah, there's sometimes they'll keep a lot of elements the
[00:23:02] same, but they'll change how the elements start or where they're at in the course.
[00:23:09] Okay.
[00:23:10] And then do y'all get to recce the course before you drive it or do you just go out
[00:23:13] there and drive it?
[00:23:16] We got a parade lap, which is basically just a lap like that, like about 10 miles an hour
[00:23:21] where we all just follow each other in a line.
[00:23:23] But that's about it other than walking the course before that.
[00:23:27] Okay.
[00:23:27] Yeah.
[00:23:28] Yeah.
[00:23:28] So we get to course walk, um, gates open, you get your car set up and then you go and
[00:23:35] do course walking for a half hour to an hour.
[00:23:39] And then, um, you know, some of our friends, they are stage drivers and they'll have their
[00:23:45] co-driver there and they'll write their pace notes by course walking and they'll verify
[00:23:48] it on the one parade lap they get to do.
[00:23:51] And then you'll go out and race.
[00:23:54] Okay.
[00:23:54] And that was my next question is y'all doing this type of rally cross y'all do have a co-driver.
[00:24:02] Do you have a co-driver in the car or do you have a co-driver just announcing in your headphones?
[00:24:08] No, there's technically no co-driver.
[00:24:11] Some people who actually do stage rally elect to have a co-driver or some people just choose
[00:24:16] to have one, but it's not like the standard by any means.
[00:24:19] Gotcha.
[00:24:19] It's usually just, you have to memorize the course.
[00:24:22] Okay.
[00:24:23] Gotcha.
[00:24:24] So you're on your own when you're out there.
[00:24:27] Yep.
[00:24:27] Unless you elect to bring somebody along to, um, either do a ride along for fun or because
[00:24:35] you can do that.
[00:24:36] That's the cool thing about with, uh, the Northwest rally association is we actually welcome people.
[00:24:42] We, a lot of us have spare helmets.
[00:24:44] We welcome them to hop in the passenger seat.
[00:24:46] We'll throw a helmet on you and you get to come ride with us.
[00:24:49] Yeah.
[00:24:50] Yeah.
[00:24:51] That sounds fun.
[00:24:52] I know that's what I want to come out and hopefully get a chance to do at some point.
[00:24:57] Yes.
[00:24:58] We need to make it happen.
[00:24:59] Definitely pick belly ham.
[00:25:01] Oh God.
[00:25:03] Okay.
[00:25:03] That's the day and night racing.
[00:25:06] We don't have night racing at any other course.
[00:25:09] Um, so it's, it's something particularly memorable about coming out to Bellingham.
[00:25:14] Wait, he didn't ask who was a better driver.
[00:25:17] Oh yeah.
[00:25:18] Oh, sorry.
[00:25:18] Okay.
[00:25:18] We'll do that.
[00:25:19] No, no, no, no.
[00:25:21] I mean, I'm going to tell you, it depends on.
[00:25:26] If you want to be comfortable in the car while one of us is racing, you're definitely going
[00:25:33] to want to pick me.
[00:25:36] If you want to get thrown around, you're going to pick him.
[00:25:39] My car tends to be so much smoother.
[00:25:41] He kind of whips you around.
[00:25:44] But it's okay.
[00:25:45] So now is that the better driver as far as like not trying to kill your passenger or better
[00:25:50] driver as far as like winning races?
[00:25:54] Here's the thing is with rally smooth is sometimes better.
[00:25:58] Because if you, if you jar the vehicle too much, you can end up in an unpredictable scenario
[00:26:05] because it's loose surface.
[00:26:08] So Izzy, honestly, I feel Izzy sometimes gets way better, but there's other little spots that
[00:26:15] she flubs and then.
[00:26:17] Yeah.
[00:26:18] Gotcha.
[00:26:20] Yeah.
[00:26:20] There's always room for improvement.
[00:26:22] Yeah.
[00:26:23] For everybody.
[00:26:25] 100%.
[00:26:25] Yep.
[00:26:26] So what are some of your favorite memories from this season?
[00:26:30] Oh man, there's so many memories about the season.
[00:26:35] One of my favorites is finally getting to ride in my buddy's car.
[00:26:40] It's a, uh, 1983 Toyota Celica with a Lexus V8 in it.
[00:26:45] We've been through heck and, and whatever.
[00:26:48] And we, it's a fully built stage car.
[00:26:51] Like it's got a cage and everything.
[00:26:54] And I've helped them with it.
[00:26:56] And I finally got to ride in it.
[00:26:57] And it's just like, oh my God.
[00:27:01] But I think that, and just my most memorable thing is every event, just hanging out with
[00:27:07] all of our friends, just going out there, just pushing ourselves, getting better and
[00:27:14] better, pushing each other.
[00:27:16] And then just having fun with friends.
[00:27:20] Like that's the best thing about the rallycross communities.
[00:27:22] You end up becoming friends with almost everybody.
[00:27:24] Yep.
[00:27:25] And what about you, Izzy?
[00:27:27] I've got like two kind of favorite memories.
[00:27:30] I have to say, uh, season closer.
[00:27:34] Uh, I ended up, uh, finding one of my friends.
[00:27:37] Uh, he actually had to, uh, quit the race temporarily cause he ended up having a clutch issue.
[00:27:45] And I just threw him my keys and I was like, Hey dude, just go finish the race.
[00:27:50] Oh, nice.
[00:27:51] Seeing him out there in my car, just bombing.
[00:27:54] And he did super well too.
[00:27:56] I think he did better than he did in his own car.
[00:27:59] That was just kind of really rewarding.
[00:28:02] And then also in the winter time, I got my mom to try out rallycross for the winter series
[00:28:09] cause you don't have to work for it.
[00:28:11] So I was like, you know, just try this out.
[00:28:12] You don't like it.
[00:28:13] You at least don't have to stand outside in the cold, you know?
[00:28:16] And she had a really great time.
[00:28:18] Uh, and everybody loved her.
[00:28:20] It was, it was fabulous.
[00:28:22] And it's really cool because Izzy's mom bought her mom or Izzy's car, the Impressa brand new
[00:28:30] from the lot and gifted it to her.
[00:28:32] And Izzy was able to give back to her mom, be like, go have fun with it.
[00:28:37] Yeah.
[00:28:37] She was grinning ear to ear.
[00:28:39] It was really awesome.
[00:28:40] That's super cool.
[00:28:41] Yeah.
[00:28:42] And I'm sure that was like just a lot of fun for her and then for you to kind of spin
[00:28:46] it back around and, you know, go enjoy what you helped me to enjoy.
[00:28:52] Yeah.
[00:28:53] Yeah.
[00:28:54] That's really nice.
[00:28:55] So with the, uh, and with the races, I guess they start at different times.
[00:29:01] Yeah.
[00:29:02] It's usually an all day event.
[00:29:04] Um, there's one event that's a, that incorporates a night race and that's at, uh, Labor Day Dirt
[00:29:10] Cross at Bellingham in Washington.
[00:29:13] And, um, but yeah, most of the time it's usually gates open at like seven 30 and you
[00:29:19] don't get out to like six or later.
[00:29:23] Okay.
[00:29:24] And what's the, uh, I guess what's the closest event or venue to you and what's the
[00:29:29] furthest one?
[00:29:32] Closest is going to be Dirtfish and the farthest is going to be, I think, Albany.
[00:29:37] Yep.
[00:29:37] So Dirtfish is in Snoqualmie, Washington and, uh, uh, Albany is Albany, Oregon.
[00:29:44] And that's like four and a half hours away.
[00:29:47] So then it's like an overnight stay kind of thing after the race.
[00:29:51] And then, yeah.
[00:29:52] Yeah.
[00:29:53] At every venue except Dirtfish, we usually end up either camping or getting a hotel.
[00:29:59] Okay.
[00:30:00] At the season opener and closer, we actually are very good friends with the hotel owner
[00:30:06] or the manager at the Days Inn in Ritzville, which is about 15 minutes away from the venue.
[00:30:11] Mm-hmm.
[00:30:12] And so we always end up going there and then every other venue will end up either camping
[00:30:18] on site or at a campground nearby.
[00:30:23] Okay.
[00:30:24] Okay.
[00:30:24] That's nice.
[00:30:25] Yeah.
[00:30:25] I'm sure there's a lot of other people camping too.
[00:30:27] So you just, I'm sure have a lot of fun in the evening after the event, huh?
[00:30:33] One of the best ones was after we were done racing for the entire weekend at Bellingham,
[00:30:39] our buddy Rick Brookens had his, uh, enclosed car trailer and we brought a little mini projector
[00:30:44] and we were playing super smash bros on the back of his trailer.
[00:30:47] Yeah.
[00:30:47] That's awesome.
[00:30:48] That was so much fun.
[00:30:49] So what else have y'all been up to the past year and a half?
[00:30:52] Cause it's been, uh, over a year and a half since y'all were on the podcast last.
[00:30:55] So obviously we've been talking about racing, but what else has been going on with you two?
[00:31:00] We finally got back out and got to do some more adventuring with friends.
[00:31:05] Milton and Carrie, uh, Silver Bullet and X, uh, Silver Bullet XV and Mountain Subi have
[00:31:10] been, uh, pressuring us to get back out on off-roading and we finally did it.
[00:31:16] We've finally been doing it more.
[00:31:17] We take Mamoru out the, uh, the lifted Impreza.
[00:31:21] Yeah.
[00:31:22] And I mean, it'd been since the last episode, it probably been about a year or more because
[00:31:31] we used to run with the, uh, Rainier chapter of Mountain Roo.
[00:31:36] Okay.
[00:31:37] And when COVID happened, um, Mountain Roo Rainier pretty much fizzled out.
[00:31:43] We haven't had an event or run since when Carrie moved up here, we ended up hanging all
[00:31:50] up a lot more and they started dragging us out.
[00:31:53] And yeah, it's been a lot of fun.
[00:31:55] Yeah.
[00:31:56] We did kind of have a little hiatus for a while cause like my tire tread was getting
[00:32:00] to be pretty low.
[00:32:01] Um, but I finally just got some new tires.
[00:32:04] So I'm hoping to get back out there again and have some more fun.
[00:32:07] Yeah.
[00:32:07] Those they, uh, they're pretty, uh, they have a lot of fun with theirs.
[00:32:11] They get a little crazy with them, but, uh, they're definitely enjoying them like to the
[00:32:16] fullest.
[00:32:16] It doesn't help that we also help enable them sometimes.
[00:32:22] I have, come on.
[00:32:23] We at least help be like, come on, do a little more.
[00:32:26] If you break it, we'll help you fix it.
[00:32:29] Exactly.
[00:32:31] It's true though.
[00:32:32] Yeah.
[00:32:34] Yeah.
[00:32:35] We've done that.
[00:32:36] And then we've just been kind of doing what we can.
[00:32:39] I've gotten into doing a little bit of 3d printing.
[00:32:42] In fact, uh, I've been working with another close buddy of mine that, uh,
[00:32:47] he's got a first gen Impreza that's swapped, uh, with a turbo Subaru engine, but he, uh,
[00:32:55] is making a drive by wire or drive by cable.
[00:33:01] So like a cable throttle to drive by wire, which is the electronic throttle adapter.
[00:33:07] And then we're 3d printing it and we're going to be sticking it in both our cars.
[00:33:12] Cause I need, I'm with the, uh, three, six swap in my new car.
[00:33:16] I need drive by wire.
[00:33:18] Yeah.
[00:33:19] Gotcha.
[00:33:19] So I have to make an adapter to bolt the plate in, but I've been also playing around with 3d printing a little bit.
[00:33:25] I've got a buddy who does battle bots and I've kind of wanted to get into it,
[00:33:32] but that's another expensive hobby.
[00:33:34] Yes.
[00:33:35] One where you are breaking stuff on purpose.
[00:33:38] Yeah.
[00:33:39] Well, we do that with racing too.
[00:33:41] Yeah.
[00:33:41] It's a little less violent.
[00:33:43] I don't know.
[00:33:46] It sounds fun.
[00:33:47] Yeah, exactly.
[00:33:49] Yeah.
[00:33:50] And you said that you've got another car and you, and you just, so this is like all perfect timing because you posted a reel on Sunday, right?
[00:33:59] About getting something started for the first time.
[00:34:02] So tell us about that.
[00:34:05] So Rexy is my baby, my O5 Impreza WRX.
[00:34:12] And so maybe that fact might have been holding me back a little bit with racing.
[00:34:17] And I managed to pick myself up an O3 Impreza WRX wagon.
[00:34:23] It was an automatic car with no engine.
[00:34:25] I had a Subaru 3.6 liter flat six, otherwise known as the EZ 36 laying around and I am running a standalone ECU made by the company Max ECU, which is a Swedish company.
[00:34:43] And I've shoehorned all of that into an O3 Impreza WRX wagon.
[00:34:49] And I'm using an 18 Forrester cable six speed transmission.
[00:34:55] And this is going to be the new rallycross car.
[00:34:58] Oh, very nice.
[00:34:59] Yeah.
[00:35:00] I've been wanting to put a 3.6 into a Subaru for a while now.
[00:35:05] And so once he got this car, I was like, he was thinking about putting a turbo engine in it.
[00:35:10] I'm like, hey, what about, you know, that big hunk of metal that you got right there sitting at work?
[00:35:14] The biggest thing is, is the 3.6 liter, you can't run the factory ECU because there's so many provisions and it requires other modules to be present that year.
[00:35:27] It wouldn't work.
[00:35:28] So you have to run a aftermarket standalone engine management system to do it.
[00:35:35] And those can range from $1,000 to $3,500.
[00:35:41] In fact, the one that I have is about a $2,000 ECU.
[00:35:47] And I did not pay that.
[00:35:49] Luckily, we were able to get it because a friend of mine is trying to downsize because he's going to be moving to another state.
[00:35:56] So he let us have it for pretty cheap.
[00:35:59] So that really got the project started.
[00:36:01] Like that was the kickstart that we really needed to start putting a 3.6 into this car.
[00:36:07] Yeah.
[00:36:07] Yeah.
[00:36:07] And he's a, he's one of my best friends.
[00:36:10] His name is Josh.
[00:36:12] And he, he's getting out of motorsports stuff because of a lot of things.
[00:36:16] But he was like, if there's anything else you need, you let me know.
[00:36:20] And I'm just like, you're insane.
[00:36:23] You're losing out on so much.
[00:36:24] Like, bro.
[00:36:25] And he's like, no, I know you can use it.
[00:36:27] Yeah.
[00:36:27] I know you'll do awesome things with it.
[00:36:29] And so kind of another reason why I'm pushing so hard on getting the wagon done is I want him to drive it.
[00:36:37] Before he moves.
[00:36:38] Before he moves.
[00:36:38] Because I want to be like, you have caused this.
[00:36:41] Thank you.
[00:36:42] Here you go.
[00:36:43] Go drive it.
[00:36:44] Yeah.
[00:36:44] If it wasn't for that computer, we would not have attempted a 3.6 swap, at least in a car so old.
[00:36:51] Yeah.
[00:36:52] Like, we would have had to do it in something much newer and we would have had to move over so many modules from a car similar to the one that the 3.6 came out of.
[00:37:01] Like, it would have been a lot of work.
[00:37:04] Not to mention that in the United States, there was not a single Subaru six cylinder that came manual.
[00:37:11] Yeah.
[00:37:12] They all were automatic.
[00:37:13] We would have had to source an automatic as well.
[00:37:15] A 5AT.
[00:37:18] So, you have, so the engine is designed to be an automatic, but you're adapting it to work with a six cylinder, I mean a six speed manual?
[00:37:30] So, the bell housings are all the same.
[00:37:32] So, all the transmissions bolt up no matter what.
[00:37:36] Okay.
[00:37:36] Any Subaru engine will bolt up to any Subaru transmission pretty much.
[00:37:39] Okay.
[00:37:39] So, you don't have to worry about that.
[00:37:41] Gotcha.
[00:37:42] Gotcha.
[00:37:43] In theory, if we really wanted to, if it wasn't for all the other fiddly bits, we could STI, put an STI engine in your Crosstrek.
[00:37:51] It would just bolt up.
[00:37:53] Yeah.
[00:37:53] Okay.
[00:37:54] Let's do it.
[00:37:55] Oh, God.
[00:37:58] That wouldn't be too hard of a swap, I don't think.
[00:38:02] Second gen Crosstrek, direct injection.
[00:38:04] Oh, he has a second gen?
[00:38:05] Yeah.
[00:38:06] Yeah.
[00:38:07] Yeah.
[00:38:08] No, it would be fun to have something with more power, though.
[00:38:11] We could put a WRX engine in it more easily.
[00:38:14] Oh, yeah.
[00:38:15] Which still has more power.
[00:38:17] Oh, gosh.
[00:38:17] Yeah.
[00:38:18] Yeah.
[00:38:19] If you just find a REC WRX, we can make it happen.
[00:38:22] That's the most reasonable way to go about it.
[00:38:23] I'll ship my Crosstrek out there, find a REC WRX, and wait about a few months and several thousand dollars.
[00:38:31] Just give us a blank check.
[00:38:33] Oh, my God.
[00:38:34] Okay.
[00:38:34] Okay.
[00:38:36] I wish I had that kind of money to do that.
[00:38:38] That would be fun.
[00:38:39] And it'd be fun to do something with the Crosstrek.
[00:38:41] And the cool thing is, this 3.6 swap has actually been...
[00:38:49] I've been inspired by a lot, but there's a YouTube channel called Mighty Car Mods.
[00:38:55] They're an Australian duo.
[00:38:58] And 10 years ago, they built a car called Gramps.
[00:39:02] It was a second-gen Liberty Wagon, which is our legacy.
[00:39:08] And it had a 3.6 liter EZ36 engine out of an late-model Tribeca.
[00:39:16] And they strapped a giant turbo to it.
[00:39:20] And, I mean, this was two years before I owned my WRX.
[00:39:25] They're probably the reason why I own a Subaru.
[00:39:28] One of the many reasons.
[00:39:29] But I always was like, one day I want to do an engine swap of some sort.
[00:39:37] You know, with a standalone computer and stuff like that.
[00:39:39] And then it just happened to be, I managed to get myself an EZ36.
[00:39:44] And I had an Impreza wagon.
[00:39:47] And I'm not putting a turbo on this.
[00:39:50] But I did the 3.6 swap that I wanted to do 10 years ago.
[00:39:55] Nice.
[00:39:56] Yeah, it's all coming together.
[00:39:57] It's a shake-up we need in our class, too.
[00:39:59] Oh, yeah.
[00:40:00] Oh, and did I mention, I'm switching into Izzy's class.
[00:40:03] I'm going to be racing against Izzy, too.
[00:40:05] Oh, wow.
[00:40:07] Yeah.
[00:40:07] I'm looking forward to him being in my class.
[00:40:10] Because there's honestly a lot of 3.6R naysayers.
[00:40:14] Mm.
[00:40:15] But, I don't know.
[00:40:17] I think it's going to do better.
[00:40:19] Yeah, there's only one other, like, they always come to an event.
[00:40:24] But there's only one other six-cylinder swap Subaru there.
[00:40:27] And that's my buddy Rick Brookens of Code Orange Racing.
[00:40:31] I think there's more.
[00:40:32] And, well, he's a regular.
[00:40:34] Oh, yeah.
[00:40:35] But he's got a EZ30R, which is out of an 05 to 09 Outback Legacy.
[00:40:43] And then early model Tribeca.
[00:40:47] Okay.
[00:40:48] And so, and then, yeah, there's a couple people in the class that are like,
[00:40:53] I don't know.
[00:40:54] They're extra nose-heavy when you do that.
[00:40:56] It's not going to last.
[00:40:57] I'm like, look who you're talking to.
[00:41:02] I don't even think anybody knows.
[00:41:03] I'm putting 50 pounds of ballast in the rear crash beam.
[00:41:06] Okay.
[00:41:06] So, then it's no longer being nose-heavy.
[00:41:10] I've gone through the entire engine.
[00:41:14] And it's going to be good.
[00:41:16] I don't even think that's a valid complaint.
[00:41:19] If, I mean, do they even know that the 3.6 is two pounds lighter?
[00:41:23] Because they're putting them in Imprezas anyways, the 3.0s.
[00:41:25] The 3.6 liter is more displacement, and it's two pounds lighter.
[00:41:30] And it's the same size as a 3.0.
[00:41:32] So, I don't know.
[00:41:35] It just sounds better to me all around.
[00:41:37] Because also, you can get the 3.6 more easily, and you can get parts for it more easily.
[00:41:42] Yeah.
[00:41:43] But the older 3.0s and the SVX engine, the 3.3 liter, parts are becoming obsolete and no longer,
[00:41:52] or discontinued, and they're no longer available.
[00:41:55] But because the 3.6 liter was last produced in 2019, we should have about 10 years,
[00:42:02] and knowing Subaru, it'll be more than that, of parts availability.
[00:42:06] That's good, yeah.
[00:42:07] Because my son, his Outback is a 3.6R, which is nice.
[00:42:12] He's got some pretty decent power to it.
[00:42:14] His car's nicer than mine.
[00:42:16] Oh, wow, that's so much fun.
[00:42:16] Yeah.
[00:42:17] His car's nicer than mine, as far as power, and he's got more features in it, and radio sounds better.
[00:42:24] But he also has over...
[00:42:27] The Outback thing.
[00:42:27] Yeah.
[00:42:27] I think he's got like 202,000 miles on it or something.
[00:42:31] He's got a Subaru.
[00:42:32] That's pretty good, though.
[00:42:33] But like, so the 3.6 liter is like, it's...
[00:42:37] We hardly see issues with it.
[00:42:39] The only things we saw, like, early on with them is that there's a little bit of sealant
[00:42:44] that wasn't done right from the factory, and so we'd have to do head gaskets on them.
[00:42:49] Under warranty.
[00:42:49] Under warranty.
[00:42:50] Just external oil leakage.
[00:42:52] Yeah.
[00:42:53] But other than that, like, we hardly ever see any 3.6 liter failures.
[00:42:59] They blow head gaskets eventually.
[00:43:01] They only really fail if you ignore the blown head gasket for long enough.
[00:43:07] Like, I've only replaced one 3.6R engine in my career so far, and that was because the customer
[00:43:16] had a broken radiator, and they just continued to top it off, and I guess they overheated
[00:43:23] it repeatedly, and oh my gosh, I've never seen so much white smoke out the tailpipe.
[00:43:27] Like, I just about smoked out the entire shop, taking it out.
[00:43:31] Jeez.
[00:43:32] I like to say that that motor went Chernobyl'd.
[00:43:35] Yeah, it was incredibly warped.
[00:43:37] There was absolutely no saving anything on that.
[00:43:39] I didn't trust anything on that engine.
[00:43:41] I think I even threw out the lifters, the buckets, because I didn't trust them.
[00:43:46] I've heard a lot of people say that it's one of the best engines that Subaru made, so
[00:43:50] I'm happy to know that he's got, you know, something that's going to be pretty reliable
[00:43:54] for a while.
[00:43:55] It will be.
[00:43:57] So what else?
[00:43:57] Anything else going on with you guys?
[00:43:59] Well, I mean, obviously building the new car.
[00:44:03] Yeah.
[00:44:03] Doing some more autocross here coming up.
[00:44:06] January 5th, we're doing autocross at Evergreen Speedway.
[00:44:10] So my car's down.
[00:44:13] My 05 WX Rexy.
[00:44:16] She's down right now, but we're going to both race Izzy's Impreza at autocross.
[00:44:22] Yeah, I've been doing a lot of autocross just to try to hone my skills and just get some
[00:44:26] practice between rallycross races.
[00:44:30] That's good.
[00:44:30] Yeah.
[00:44:31] Keep it fresh.
[00:44:32] And it's fun.
[00:44:33] Why not?
[00:44:34] It's a lot of fun.
[00:44:35] And it's cheap.
[00:44:35] Like, it's like 75 bucks.
[00:44:37] You get 12 runs.
[00:44:39] Oh, nice.
[00:44:40] You don't have to coursework where we go.
[00:44:43] Yeah.
[00:44:43] We go on old rally tires because what it does is it ends up making the grip a lot less.
[00:44:49] So then it starts to feel like rallycross.
[00:44:52] Yeah.
[00:44:52] I wish Rexy was up and running because I would love to take her, but there's a company called
[00:44:58] Griot's Garage.
[00:44:59] They do a lot of car care products.
[00:45:02] Rexy's going to be in the Griot's Garage home store in Tacoma, Washington for the month
[00:45:09] of January as one of the supply vehicles.
[00:45:12] Oh, nice.
[00:45:13] So if there's anybody who listens, if you're near Tacoma, Griot's is doing the theme of
[00:45:20] rally for their showcase cars.
[00:45:23] And there's going to be stage cars.
[00:45:24] There's going to be local grassroots rallycross cars.
[00:45:27] And yeah, she's going to be there.
[00:45:29] That's awesome.
[00:45:30] That'll be nice.
[00:45:31] Cool for you to display your baby.
[00:45:34] Yeah.
[00:45:35] And then we have the engine out of her right now because there was a mechanical failure
[00:45:39] when I was down in Portland for training.
[00:45:40] One of the head studs that holds the cylinder head to the block snapped.
[00:45:48] Is that what you pulled out the other day?
[00:45:50] Yes.
[00:45:51] And so Rexy's engine has been in service.
[00:45:54] That engine with its rebuild has been in service for four years, 100,000 miles plus, and four
[00:46:02] seasons of rallycross.
[00:46:03] That was my first engine rebuild.
[00:46:05] That's pretty impressive.
[00:46:07] That motor owes us nothing.
[00:46:09] Genuinely.
[00:46:09] I'm still frustrated by the fact that the fastener failed.
[00:46:13] Because I would have liked to see how far it would go.
[00:46:16] But I mean...
[00:46:17] We also found that there was some other damage.
[00:46:21] I was already planning on pulling her motor once the wagon was online.
[00:46:25] But this escalated it a lot more quickly.
[00:46:28] And it's now left us with a problem that we have to have the rest of the old head stud removed
[00:46:35] by a machine shop.
[00:46:36] Yeah.
[00:46:37] Oh, wow.
[00:46:37] That's going to be a little hairy, I think.
[00:46:38] But for the last four years, I've been collecting parts here and there.
[00:46:43] I've got a set of manly forged pistons and rods.
[00:46:47] I've got a set of Kelford cams that are for rally car spec.
[00:46:54] I've got a STI turbo.
[00:46:58] I've got fuel injectors, rails, lines.
[00:47:01] And so I think she's going to come back way better than ever.
[00:47:06] And then we're going to get her retuned at the shop that we had her tuned at last time,
[00:47:12] which is Drive Autosports up in Edmonds area.
[00:47:14] They have a brilliant tuner there.
[00:47:17] And I love all the guys up there.
[00:47:20] They're super nice.
[00:47:21] That's good.
[00:47:22] So once you get the wagon up and running to do rally cross,
[00:47:27] are you going to then run both of the cars?
[00:47:31] Rexy and this one?
[00:47:32] He'll run both if he has the chance.
[00:47:35] Yeah.
[00:47:35] But more than likely, he's going to be focusing his efforts on modified all-wheel drive,
[00:47:40] normally aspirated.
[00:47:41] So he's going to be running the 3.6 swap to Impreza.
[00:47:44] Gotcha.
[00:47:44] Okay.
[00:47:45] That and Rexy deserves a break.
[00:47:47] She's got a lot of upkeep that needs to be done on the body.
[00:47:51] We need to go through, do some body work on her and fix her up.
[00:47:54] And yeah, the suspension needs to be reworked bad.
[00:47:57] She's going to get a good break.
[00:47:59] She might end up doing autocross here and there.
[00:48:01] Maybe.
[00:48:02] Maybe.
[00:48:03] Maybe.
[00:48:03] The season closer for 25.
[00:48:05] I will see if one of my friends wants to drive her out there.
[00:48:09] And then if the stars align, if the modified all-wheel drive NA class and the modified all-wheel drive turbo class are in different days,
[00:48:20] I will see if then I can race the wagon day one and then race Rexy day two.
[00:48:25] Oh, yeah.
[00:48:26] There you go.
[00:48:27] We'll have to see about that.
[00:48:28] But we're going to have to ask the race captain and all that stuff.
[00:48:33] Sounds like you guys have been busy and having a lot of fun on the course and off the course.
[00:48:39] And now you've got this new build that you can continue to work on and get it going and have fun with that one as well.
[00:48:48] Yeah.
[00:48:48] Oh, yeah.
[00:48:49] The new car is going to be spicy.
[00:48:54] It's going to be very spicy.
[00:48:56] Do you have a name for it yet?
[00:48:57] And I'm also looking forward to rebuilding Rexy.
[00:48:59] Oh, yeah.
[00:49:00] That would be good.
[00:49:00] So the founder of Northwest Rally Association at the Season Awards, he ended up calling out and saying that when he was calling me up for the second place,
[00:49:12] he said that it has a new car that's going to be one heck of a speed sled.
[00:49:17] And it's kind of stuck.
[00:49:19] I've started referring to it as the speed sled.
[00:49:22] There you go.
[00:49:23] He helped you out.
[00:49:24] I think he did.
[00:49:25] But also, once the car is up and running, once I figure out, I'm sure another name will come to me for it.
[00:49:33] But for now, yeah, speed sled is what we're calling it.
[00:49:37] That's good.
[00:49:38] I kind of wanted to call it Sonic.
[00:49:41] Because it's blue and it's probably going to go fast.
[00:49:45] But it might be a little too obvious.
[00:49:49] We'll see.
[00:49:50] We'll see how we feel.
[00:49:51] We'll get a feel when we drive it, you know?
[00:49:52] Yeah.
[00:49:53] Something may come to you when you're out there on it and just be like, holy crap, bam, and there's a name.
[00:49:59] You never know.
[00:50:00] That's how it usually goes.
[00:50:01] Oh, that's good.
[00:50:02] There you go.
[00:50:03] Well, thank you guys for hopping on and sharing some of your exciting adventures with Rally.
[00:50:10] And then also that you've been getting out there on the trails some more.
[00:50:14] So hopefully y'all can do some more of that and have some more fun with that.
[00:50:17] And then, of course, get your new baby up and running.
[00:50:21] So you want to try to have it ready for the next season, right?
[00:50:25] Yep.
[00:50:25] It should be possible.
[00:50:27] The goal is its debut will be season opener.
[00:50:32] Because we've actually got an ice race coming up February 1st.
[00:50:37] That sounds interesting.
[00:50:38] And we're dual driving Izzy's car.
[00:50:40] Okay.
[00:50:41] So what does y'all...
[00:50:42] It should do pretty well out there.
[00:50:44] How do you do the ice races?
[00:50:46] I guess it's like on ice?
[00:50:49] Like do it on a frozen lake or something?
[00:50:51] Yeah.
[00:50:51] Here, Izzy.
[00:50:52] So what they're planning to do is at the venue that we use for season opener and closer,
[00:50:59] they're going to lay down a whole bunch of water at what typically is the coldest time of the year.
[00:51:04] Okay.
[00:51:04] So that's going to freeze over in preparation for the actual race day.
[00:51:09] And we're allowed to have DOT approved studded snow tires.
[00:51:13] So like normal tires you could use on the street.
[00:51:16] No like crazy rally studded tires or anything like that.
[00:51:20] So I found a set of cheap studded tires for 200 bucks on Facebook Marketplace that they have plenty of life.
[00:51:27] They are 10 years old, but only paid 200 bucks.
[00:51:30] So it's like, you know, it's the best deal I could ask for.
[00:51:34] Yeah.
[00:51:34] So I'm pretty optimistic that the car is going to handle quite well with those.
[00:51:39] Sounds like it'd be fun too.
[00:51:41] Oh yeah.
[00:51:42] The season opener, I think in March.
[00:51:46] Yeah.
[00:51:48] So I've got a little bit of time to get the wagon completed, but also I need to keep going.
[00:51:54] Yeah.
[00:51:55] Yeah.
[00:51:55] We're almost there.
[00:51:56] We just need a couple more parts.
[00:51:58] Yep.
[00:51:58] Especially an exhaust.
[00:51:59] Yeah.
[00:52:00] The exhaust is going to be the interesting one.
[00:52:02] All right.
[00:52:02] Well, thanks again.
[00:52:03] You guys have a good night and we'll talk to you all later.
[00:52:08] Have a good night, Rob.
[00:52:09] Thank you.
[00:52:09] Thank you so much.
[00:52:09] Have a good night.
[00:52:10] You're welcome.
[00:52:11] All right.
[00:52:11] Bye.
[00:52:12] Bye-bye.
[00:52:12] Bye.
[00:52:14] Hey, everybody.
[00:52:15] Thank you so much for tuning in to the first episode of 2025 with Izzy and Jacob and hearing
[00:52:22] their story about Rallycross and enjoying their daily driven Subarus to get out and do
[00:52:29] some crazy and fun stuff.
[00:52:32] And thank you both Izzy and Jacob for coming back onto the podcast to share your experience
[00:52:38] with Rallycross and having fun.
[00:52:41] And I hope you all get a chance to do a lot more this next season and have some more fun,
[00:52:47] especially with your new Subaru.
[00:52:49] That's going to be a lot of fun, no doubt.
[00:52:51] And looking forward to seeing what comes with that car and how it is going up against Izzy
[00:52:58] in the next season.
[00:53:00] So thanks again.
[00:53:01] Really appreciate you both coming on.
[00:53:03] And again, thank you, everybody, for tuning in to the podcast, for continuing to support
[00:53:09] the podcast, for continuing to listen to the podcast.
[00:53:12] I really, really appreciate it.
[00:53:14] So keep tuning in, keep sharing, and we'll have some more great episodes coming up this
[00:53:20] year.
[00:53:21] And I want to really try to get some more previous guests on.
[00:53:25] I was trying to do that in 2024, but kept having new guests, which is a good thing.
[00:53:30] So we'll have plenty of new guests and we'll have some returning guests as long as they
[00:53:34] want to come back on.
[00:53:35] So anyway, I hope you all have a great week.
[00:53:38] And we will see you next Monday for a Subie Scoop.
[00:53:42] Much Subie love.
