[00:00:10] Hey everybody, welcome to another episode of the Subie & You Podcast. This is episode 206 and this is going to be a solo episode because this was from my trip out to Oregon with my family. So it is entitled Our Trip to Oregon because it wasn't just me.

[00:00:28] I had gotten invited to Overland Expo PNW by Subaru of America and when I asked them well I got invited to Overland Expo events and then when they showed me the list of locations of where they were going to be holding over.

[00:00:49] So I had already been talking to Derek and Brandon. Derek is Unpaved PNW. Brandon is Starscream1201 and I was talking to them because I was saying that I wanted to come out to Oregon for a family vacation and then when I found out about Overland Expo and saw that there was one in Oregon, I decided why not tie them together.

[00:01:18] I'm going to be going out there anyway. So that's what this episode is about and I was thinking like while I was out there, you know what, I have my Rodecaster Pro so I can just record content while I'm here rather than waiting until I get back home to talk about it.

[00:01:42] So there were a couple of days. We went out to explore Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday while we were there just on our own and we went to a bunch of really cool places and so I have audio of us actually being out there while we were exploring.

[00:02:06] So there was, I think it was only Tuesday that I didn't record because I was just wrapped up in the moment and I forgot to record while I was out there. But I do have audio recordings of us being out on Monday and then us being out on Wednesday. So I'll just talk about Tuesday. But before we hear...

[00:02:35] The Subi and You podcast is brought to you by Eccentric Designs. For those of you who don't know, Eccentric Designs is a small, community-driven business that offers custom-fit vinyl overlays for most Subaru models. This includes various designs for the rear reflectors, taillights, and side taillights. I also offer fun decal designs like the popular fender stripes and stickers. To find designs for your Subi, head on over to eccentricdesigns.com.

[00:03:00] There's always more projects in the works, so be sure to follow at eccentric.designs on Instagram. Thank you so much, Eccentric Designs, for sponsoring the Subi and You podcast. Always appreciated. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Go check out her website at eccentricdesigns.com and check out... But before we go any further with this, I want to put out a disclaimer that this is not a family episode,

[00:03:28] as in me and my family talking about our experience out there. It's mostly me just recapping what our experience was while we were there. So I did record some content while we were out on the trails and hiking and everything. But, and my daughter hops on the mic very, very briefly just while we were walking. She was like, what are you doing? And I'm recording and I put the mic in front of her face. But no, it's not me and my family all talking on this episode.

[00:03:56] So I didn't want y'all to expect that this was like an episode with all of us. It's just mainly an episode with me. I'm just really extremely grateful that we were able to take this trip and go out to Oregon. As I said, we were planning it and it just lined up with Overland Expo P&W. And we hadn't taken a trip. I mean, we went to Disney World over Thanksgiving last year. So we did take that trip.

[00:04:26] But we haven't been to a trip where we've been to the mountains and been able to go outside and explore and things like that. In two years, I think. Because I think the last trip that we took, or it may have even been longer. I can't remember. But I know the last trip that all four of us. I want to give a huge shout out to Milton and Carrie for letting us borrow Frankie, the lifted Impreza.

[00:04:53] We had a lot of fun with driving Frankie around. We didn't drive her around like the entire time we had her just because we were going out to trailheads. So we didn't really need anything extreme off-road-ish. But we did get to enjoy Frankie on Monday and had a lot of fun going through some trails and just doing some donuts and taking turns, you know, just going around and enjoying the car.

[00:05:24] Because that's what... So I'm going to start this episode off here in a little bit with me recording from day one. And when I say day one, day one, I kind of got confused as I was going along. But day one was like when I first started recording was the day that we traveled out to Oregon. So that was Sunday the 22nd. And then later on, I say like day two and day three.

[00:05:48] But like there was day one of hiking and finding a waterfall and just running streams and just beautiful, beautiful scenery. That was on Monday. Then there was the second day of getting out and hiking and finding more waterfalls. That was Tuesday. And then day three or the third day was on Wednesday where we also went out and found another waterfall and did more hiking. So we did a lot of hiking.

[00:06:16] I think on... And according to the health app on my iPhone, the number of steps that were taken was over 18,000. Of course, that's not just hiking. That's, you know, any walking I'm doing around the house that we were in or going out to the car or whatever. But still, the majority of that was hiking.

[00:06:40] I think my daughter said that on her app because she started like a running app that was tracking our distance. And I think it was close to eight miles, I believe she said. Total hiking. So that was a long day. But it was good. It was a lot of fun. So I will talk about that in this episode. But again, like I mentioned earlier, I didn't record anything for day two. So after I play the audio for day one, then I'll just record what we did on day two. But we had a lot of fun.

[00:07:13] Aaron, his account is Aaron.Trekstrails. And he is also the husband of Sarah. Their joint account is PNWCrosstrekTacoma. And I had been talking to them for a really, really long time. They were one of the early, early, early episodes. And I was able to meet them at Overland Expo. So but I'll talk about that during the Overland Expo episode.

[00:07:37] But I want to give a huge shout out to Aaron because he kept feeding us information of where we could potentially go. It all started off with Derek. Derek gave us some information. And then, I mean, we had information from a few different people, I think. But ultimately, we ended up going to some spots that Aaron was telling us about because we were trying to find spots. There were spots that were really, really nice.

[00:08:05] That looked like they would be incredible spots to see. But they were like over two hours away from the Airbnb. Because we were staying in Sisters because we wanted to be close to the event on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. So we didn't have a really long drive. We didn't have to get up super early in the morning to get out to the event. But we didn't want to end up driving like five or six hours out of the whole day. So we ended up going to places that were closer to Sisters.

[00:08:34] And Aaron said that he had been to a lot of places around the Sisters area. So that's what we ended up doing was going to some spots that he recommended. So I'm very appreciative to everybody that gave us information on places to go see. But it's hard when you only have a certain number of days and you want to see as much as you can. But we regret nothing that we ended up doing because it was all beautiful. Just the drives alone out there.

[00:09:01] Whether you're going hiking and seeing waterfalls or mountains or whatever. But before I get into this episode further, I need to give a shout out to my sponsors. Of course, one of them now is SubiMods. Go check out subimods.com. They have membership programs that you can sign up for where you can earn points to get points towards your purchases.

[00:09:30] If you will be attending any of the remaining SubiFest events, you can see SubiMods there. They're going to have a big, huge tent. So go by, say hi, check out any of the merch that they have there. Talk to them about their brand. And yeah, just kind of introduce yourself. Let them know you heard about them on the podcast if you hadn't heard about them before. Also, they're going to have Gridlife Summer Apexes on the horizon for...

[00:09:59] And of course, I have to mention SubaruGear.com. Go check out SubaruGear.com. Go shop the motorsports section. We've got SubiFest coming up so you can represent your favorite motorsports teams. And, you know, go to the events in style. We've also got... There's still ARA championships that are going on. So that's another great way. So, but anything that you decide to purchase, use the code SUBINU25 to get 20% off your purchase.

[00:10:27] And if the total is over $50 after the 20% discount, you automatically get free shipping. So thank you so much Subaru Gear for this great offer. And thank you for sponsoring the podcast. But... All right.

[00:10:54] So day one of our trip to Oregon turned out to be pretty eventful and adventurous before we even got to Oregon. Because we flew out of Houston on Sunday the 22nd and ended up flying into Denver with a connecting flight. Because there aren't any direct flights on Southwest to Oregon.

[00:11:17] And our flight from Denver to Portland ended up getting delayed by, I think, like almost two hours. So we ended up getting into Portland pretty late. And then we drove to Derek's house, unpaved P&W. And we got to his house, met him, which was great. It was nice to meet him and his son.

[00:11:44] And then we picked up Frankie, which is the Impreza that Carrie and Milton, Mountain Subi and Silver Bullet XV, the Impreza that they built up to be a rallycross car. And they were already set in the Northwest Rally Association. So once we left Derek's house to come to Sisters to our Airbnb, it took us quite a while to get down here.

[00:12:14] And we ended up getting here at 3.30 a.m. Monday morning. So that was day one. And now this is day two. I'm walking around. You can maybe hear. You can hear the footsteps. Hold on. There's a gravel driveway out here in front of the Airbnb, which is really nice.

[00:12:43] And we're going to go get some breakfast in a little bit. And then we're going to hit some trails. And we're going to go see some waterfalls because I've gotten some great help from some people who live here and have been able to help us find some good spots. I'm also looking at a squirrel who is just climbing around underneath Frankie, like on the suspension. But apparently the squirrels like Frankie too. And the squirrel's not timid.

[00:13:12] It's like just kind of hanging out looking at me. It's pretty cute. But, yeah, we're going to head out in a little bit, go get some breakfast, and then go hit some trails and just have some fun with Frankie. And our rental car is a 2024 Crosstrek. So it's nice to have two Subarus here that we can go out and have some fun with.

[00:13:37] But also this Airbnb, this neighborhood that it's in, is really quiet. So it's pretty nice. It's a nice spot. And there's trees all around us. And it's really, really pretty. So I'm looking forward to going and exploring parts of Oregon. Because I've never, I haven't been here before for fun or vacation. I've been here before for work. I've been to Portland, Corvallis, and Eugene.

[00:14:06] But just have only been around the cities and never really had a chance to explore other parts of Oregon. So also, I decided I'm going to just put out an episode of our trip out here to Oregon and to Overland Expo and just do like a day-by-day recap and fill everybody in on what we're doing or what we have done.

[00:14:34] So this is the first part of it. Day one and the start of day two. Okay, so see there, I said day two, which was actually Monday where we went to go exploring. I mentioned that we were going to get breakfast and we went to this place called Angeline's Bakery and Cafe, which was recommended by Derek. Thank you so much, Derek, because they have some really great vegan options. So that was perfect for me.

[00:15:03] So huge shout out to Angeline's. If you're ever in Sisters and you want to go check out a great little bakery and cafe, of course they have other options. Not just, you know, it's not just for vegans. So they have options for everybody. Really, really great food. Great atmosphere. They have a cool patio in the back. Actually, it's not really a patio. It's like a backyard. It's almost like a home. So they've got like seating out back. They've got seating in the front. And then they've got seating inside.

[00:15:31] And it was just, it was such a cool atmosphere. And we ended up going there every morning. We went there Monday morning, Tuesday morning, Wednesday morning. I think we ended up going there Thursday morning as well. And, I mean, I think we went there Friday, Saturday, and Sunday too. We may have gone there every single day because we just really enjoyed it so much. But that was where we started off our day, going to Angeline's Bakery and Cafe.

[00:15:58] Again, if you're in Sisters and you want to go check out a great place, it was really, really good. I know there's other places. There's like Sisters Coffee Company and some other places that were recommended as well. But we felt like Angeline's was the best option for us. And it worked out great because they also have pastries too. So they have like breakfast sandwiches, breakfast burritos, and then they have pastries. So you can just like grab something and go. And that was really nice that they had those options.

[00:16:23] So now this next segment is me out of breath because we had just been doing a bunch of hiking. And so I'm talking about some of the areas that we went to. And so that's what this next segment is going to be. And I haven't listened back to it yet. So as I'm listening to it, if there's anything that I forget or that I left out, then I'll go add it in at the end. But here we go with this next segment. Okay.

[00:16:50] I'm starting off with this as part of day two. I'm out of... I'm a little winded because I was hiking uphill. Heel? Uphill? Because there's a river. Not a river. There's a creek here. Three... Something? Three Sisters Creek maybe? Anyway.

[00:17:15] We decided to go further off a trail than we originally planned with no water. So we're headed back to the cars to get some water. But we started off the day by going to Angelina's or Angeline's Bakery and Cafe

[00:17:36] and had some vegan breakfast burritos and vegan egg and cheese bagels and some coffee drinks. And then decided to drive down... I think it was Elm Street or something. And went to Three Sisters Lake Road. I think that's what it's called. Something. I don't know. I may have to edit this later and correct myself. But anyway, we were...

[00:18:04] Actually, let me look at the map because I've got Google Maps up. So... Oh, Three Creeks Lane Road. Correction. It was actually Three Creeks Lake Road. So Elm Street is in Sisters, Oregon. And then you take Elm Street south and then it turns into Three Creeks Lake Road. So I was...

[00:18:34] I guess I was just out of it. But... And it's actually south Elm Street. Let me get that correct too. We were driving on the... I'm doing some audio. Say hello. Hello. Hello. That's Catherine. But anyway, it's me, Catherine, Ian, and Luke. And we were driving down Three Creeks Lane Road. And then I guess it's Three Creeks that we saw.

[00:19:02] But we saw a trail that said Creek Trail. So we went down to the creek and saw some little waterfalls and just some nice flowing water. Got some really nice shots. They dipped their feet in the water. And I scooped some up and put it on the back of my neck. It was like really, really cold. But it felt good. So now we're on this trail heading back to the main trail so that we can get to the cars and get some water.

[00:19:32] But it's been a good day so far. It's nice to be in Oregon. It's pretty warm out here but low humidity compared to Houston. So it's really nice. What do you think of the weather, Catherine? It's very nice. I'm tired. I think I only had like two hours of sleep. So I'm working off two hours of sleep and no water right now. But we're doing okay. People have survived much worse.

[00:20:03] Yeah, that's it for now. There'll be more later. I don't remember exactly where we went but I think it was Whitechus Creek. It's W-H-Y-C-H-U-S. So I think that was the creek that we were looking at. And it was just really, really beautiful. So we, and again, I don't remember how we got off into this little creek but we went to a trailhead.

[00:20:32] We were hiking around and there was a beautiful view of the mountains from this little, it was like a, it was like a little overlook but with a bench. But things are never good enough for us whenever we go exploring and hiking. And so my son being who he is and then he just, he sees these rock formations and he's like,

[00:21:01] hey, I'm going to go climb up over there. And so he did. Then I went and climbed up over there. Then Catherine and Ian followed and came up there as well. So the view from that little overlook with a bench, it was pretty nice. It was a decent view. But from on top of those rocks, you could see like 100 and, or no, you could see 360 degrees around us. Because in that overlook spot with the bench, there's trees all around you.

[00:21:29] So you only have a view directly ahead and you could only see part of the mountains. So up on these rock formations, you could see like way, way out. You could see all of the mountains. And again, you could see 360 degrees around because you were above the trees. So thank you, Luke, for going and being the explorer that you are and finding a better overlook spot for us. So we did that. And then we saw the creek down below. That's cool.

[00:21:58] We found another overlook spot. That was a pretty nice view. We saw the creek way down there. And we were like, oh, I wonder if we can hike down to the creek. But it was really, really steep. It was steep. It was really steep. And it didn't really look safe. There was like some, a lot of brush. And we were like, yeah, I don't know if we should try that. Because we're pretty, we're pretty bold whenever we go out. We'll like hike some, some stuff.

[00:22:27] And that's not necessarily a trail just because that's kind of how we roll. But we continued down the path because it was basically a loop from where, where we parked. You could go left or right. And then they eventually met up with each other, came back to the same spot. It just looped around. So we continued on the path that we were on. And then we found a creek trail. So we went down there and it was just beautiful. The water was flowing pretty quickly.

[00:22:56] There was a big, it looked like maybe a beaver dam. I don't know, there was all these just limbs and tree branches and logs that were laying across the creek. And creating this cool little, you know, fountain or like a little waterfall. And then there was another spot further down that was like that. And I think we found like maybe three of those spots. But anyway, so that was the first spot that we found. And we stayed there for quite a while.

[00:23:24] That was where Catherine and Ian and Luke all dipped their feet in the water. I didn't end up doing it because I didn't want to, I just didn't want to get my feet wet and have to take my hiking boots off and all that. So I would just scoop up water, like I said, and put it on the back of my neck every once in a while. And that felt really, really good. But I did find this one rock that was round and kind of high up above the creek, right where some water was flowing down like a small waterfall. And I just laid there for a while and it was so nice.

[00:23:53] And we were all thinking this would be like such a great spot to put up a hammock and just take a nap listening to the water flowing. But unfortunately, none of us had our hammocks. I think next time we go do some kind of hike like that or go anywhere, we're going to have to make sure and bring our hammocks because that would that would have been awesome. So that was like the first part of day one because we found this one spot and then we ended up going to a waterfall after that. And of course, this one was recommended by Aaron.

[00:24:21] He told us to go to the Kusa and Sahali Falls Trail. And so we went to the trailhead there and then we started hiking down. The first where we parked, the first waterfall that we saw was the Sahali Falls. And then we followed the trail down and ended up finding the Kusa Falls. And it was it was so beautiful.

[00:24:42] I mean, the the waterfall that we found, the Sahali Falls, we ended up like going down and standing up on this rock that was right in front of the waterfall. And of course, we're getting splashed. We're getting, you know, misted by all of the water crashing down. And it was cold outside, too. And it was somewhat shaded in that area, but 100 percent worth it.

[00:25:06] And I ended up taking a video that was only like six seconds because I stood up even closer to the waterfall. And like I'm sitting there blinking my eyes, trying to watch the phone take this video as I'm just getting pelted by, you know, water splashing up on me. And it was it was such an exhilarating experience, though, being that close to the waterfall, feeling it hitting you, just the sound of it, the sheer power of it.

[00:25:35] And, you know, it's just it was just super, super cool seeing that. So thank you so much, Aaron, for the recommendation, because I think that may have still been our favorite day of the three days that we went hiking and finding waterfalls that you recommended. So now we will get into this segment from our hike along that trail. OK, so we're pretty much wrapping up the day. But we came out to I think it's the Sahali Falls.

[00:26:04] I think that's how you say it. But I'm sure you can probably hear the water. I hope. Yes, you can hear the water. Thank you so much, Road Wireless Pro, for capturing this amazing experience for me. We found some pretty decent waterfalls walking around here and we've gotten a lot of steps in, too, and gone up and down some stairs.

[00:26:27] There's another waterfall over here that should be able to get some pretty good ASMR on this episode. And the waterfall that I was talking about right there was the Kusa Falls, because at the trailhead, the first if you go straight out, the first waterfall that you get to is the Sahali Falls. And then as you hike down and go south, you get to the Kusa Falls. So that's the one I'm talking about right here. It's coming up.

[00:26:54] But we're wrapping up day two with this trek to these waterfalls. And right there where I was talking about, I said day two. It was day two of our trip because we got to Oregon on Sunday, the 22nd. This was day two of our trip, but it was day one of us going out and exploring. So I don't remember. I think I get like confused throughout this recording as I was out going to these spots. But this is actually day one of our adventures.

[00:27:22] And it's been a lot of fun being out here. I'm so very, very grateful to be here in Oregon checking this out. Here we go. Here's one of the other falls. Oh, here we go. I'm getting closer. I'm coming right next to the fall where it's coming down.

[00:27:54] It's so beautiful here. And I'm glad to be here with my family, being able to have this little trip in Oregon. And then also be here for Overland Expo this weekend. And today is just Monday. We've already done a lot.

[00:28:16] But we're hiking out of this little park, trying to get back to the car so we can get back to the Airbnb. And eat because we've all worked up a pretty good appetite. So I'm so thankful for my Rode Wireless Pro too.

[00:28:39] Because I can just bring this tiny, tiny little device with me and record content while we're out seeing some beautiful sights. And to let everybody know what's going on with the day. So it's been a fun day. And Luke's trying to do pull-ups on a big log.

[00:29:06] That log was too big around for him to get a good grip on. Maybe he just can't do it. But, yeah. So we're hiking out. It's starting to get a little bit dark too. So we've got to get out of here before it gets too dark. And because we don't have any flashlights or anything. And my phone is at 3%.

[00:29:32] I really like my new iPhone because it has a really long battery life. And so I'm grateful for that. And I've been taking a lot of videos today. And it's done a really good job lasting throughout the day. But, anyway. So that's it for this little segment of day one in Oregon.

[00:30:01] And that's Luke climbing up a log. But I don't know what we're going to do tomorrow. I know there's a lot of stuff here to see. So we might go find something even more epic than this. And this was pretty epic. So we saw the first waterfall. And we were just completely awestruck looking at it. And it was just so nice to see it.

[00:30:31] Because none of us have ever seen a waterfall like that. So it was really cool seeing it. But, anyway. That's it for now. The rest of the time is just dinner and relaxing. And getting to bed later. Adios. So that was the conclusion of our day two of the trip. But day one of our adventures. Getting out and exploring. Again, I already said it before.

[00:30:56] But thank you so much, Aaron, for the recommendation of going and seeing the falls. That was a really, really great experience. And I'm just glad that we were able to be there in Oregon. And witness the waterfalls. And the trails. And just nature. Just getting out and hiking. And now it's like, now. Being back home, of course, we don't have anything like that anywhere near us. But we do have hiking trails in the Houston area. There are some wooded areas with hiking.

[00:31:26] So now I want to get out and do more hiking. I think that would be good for all of us. And just being in some wooded areas away from everything else. Be really nice. Okay, well, I can't have a conclusion of day one without talking about us having some fun in Frankie. Frankie. So I don't have the video of me driving. But because my daughter, I think she took it on her phone. I need to ask her to send it to me.

[00:31:51] But while I'm talking about this, I might as well include the audio as I'm talking about it. So I think this was before we went to the creek and the first spot that we went to because we were just driving around looking for stuff. And so this cliff is Luke driving Frankie around. I found this big open spot and I was like, hey, let's stop and take turns driving Frankie.

[00:32:15] So this is Luke driving Frankie, having fun and getting out there and kind of getting after it. So it was a good experience for us. So thank you so much, Milton and Carrie, again for letting us have some fun in Frankie. So then this next clip is when Catherine got in and Luke was actually riding with her. So I took a video of Catherine driving Frankie because I wanted her to have fun too. And she did a really good job.

[00:32:45] She was not timid and she got out there and got after it. And then there was a video of me that my daughter took, like I mentioned. But I didn't get any, I haven't gotten that video from her, but you know, I wanted the kids to have fun and have a good time. And so did Milton and Carrie. So again, thank y'all so much. We really, really appreciate it. And we're glad that we were able to experience this awesome car.

[00:33:16] So as I mentioned before, I didn't record any audio when we were out on our day two excursions, which would have been Tuesday, day three of our trip. But we went to Tomalo Falls and I figured it would be appropriate to put some audio in the background of the falls. So this was Tomalo Falls that you hear in the background here. And I just took a video with my phone and I included that here as the audio.

[00:33:43] And I'm just, it's just basically on a loop. So it's going to like go and then go and then go again. But I figured it would be good background noise for talking about day two. So we started off, we found this spot, went and parked. And then we walked up to the falls, which is pretty close because you could see the falls from where we parked and where we were driving up. It was really pretty.

[00:34:08] And then there was a trail that we decided to start hiking up and check out to see where it was going. So we started following the trail. And what was really cool is there were a lot of spots where it had this little sign that said, I don't know why I'm talking so loud. I feel like I'm trying to talk over the waterfall, but it's just for background noise. But anyway, there were these little signs on a post that said water access.

[00:34:34] And so you were able to walk down a trail and get out to the water that was flowing to the waterfall. And this trail was just going up, up, up, up, up and not too steep. But we started going for a pretty long distance. And then we decided should we turn back around. But then Catherine opened up her Maps app and said, oh, there's Double Falls, it looks like, further up this trail.

[00:35:00] So we decided to keep hiking, kept hitting more water access points, going out there and checking it out. And there were some really cool spots that they had opened up for people to come and check out with the water access. So we eventually get up to Double Falls. And sure enough, it was two falls. It was one that was coming down and then it kind of flattened out and then went down to another spot. And it was pretty high up. We got up on this, like, rock formation looking down.

[00:35:30] And the falls were pretty far away from us. And as much as we like to adventure and try to get down close to the falls, this one and the Tomalo Falls, there was no way that we could get down to them from where we saw. Like, we would have had to be on the other side of the falls or something. And maybe there's trails that get down close to it, but we couldn't find any. But anyway, that was what we did for day two.

[00:35:58] And again, we started off the day going to Angeline's Bakery and Cafe. And we had a really great day. Of course, this was another spot that Aaron suggested that we go check out. And we're really glad that we did. So thank you so much, Aaron. We really enjoyed the day. We had a lot of fun. And it was just great seeing more waterfalls, doing more hiking, and just having a good time being out in nature, being around the trees. And we really, really enjoyed it.

[00:36:28] And, of course, beautiful views from everywhere. So really, really appreciate it. Thank you so much, Aaron. All right. This is day three. And we're at Chush Falls. I think that's how you say it. C-H-U-S-H. Seems right. Yeah. But anyway, we are drove up here into the base of the Sisters Mountains.

[00:36:54] And we're getting ready to go for a hike up to the trailhead. And we took a wrong turn because I was navigating to the actual falls. But it was showing being able to go up there. And there was a road. The road is really, really bumpy. And it didn't get us to the actual trailhead. So now we're going over to the trailhead. And we can hear the flowing water from the falls.

[00:37:23] And so we're going to head this way. But we got breakfast at Angeline's Bakery and Cafe again for the third time in a row because it's really good. And so now we're out here and going to explore some more. And the rushing water is really cool looking. So you can probably start to hear it in the audio. But I'll get really close so that you can hear it better.

[00:37:51] And this is the rushing water from the falls. So we'll have to go up and see the falls themselves. But here we go. It's like a rapid. So this is the start of day three. As I'm recording this, I haven't even recorded day two yet because we were out.

[00:38:19] And I forgot to get my mic out to record. So I have to go back and record day two after this. But this is really beautiful. So we're going to find our way up to the trail or up the trail to the actual waterfall. And then go check it out. But this is day three of our trip to Oregon.

[00:38:43] Okay, so I'm going to keep using this waterfall background as part of any other segment that I record. But what we didn't know, what I didn't know is that rushing water that we found, it was really far away from the actual falls. We also didn't drive up to the trailhead. We parked down from it because the road was really rough and we weren't really sure where we were going.

[00:39:08] And this is the day that was where I got in 18,000 steps. But we were pretty far from the falls. But once we got there, it was incredibly beautiful. And it took a long time to get there, but it was totally worth it. The other thing too with this hike is when we first started off, it was pretty sunny. And I knew that we were going to have a long hike, even though I didn't know how far away it was.

[00:39:35] But I was just like, I do not want to be out in the sun the entire time. And Aaron warned us that there's no tree cover because a lot of the trees had been burned several years ago. And that was an issue. But thankfully, about a quarter of the way of our hike, the sun actually went behind the clouds. It got pretty cloudy. And we were able to have a lot of cloud cover, which was really, really nice. That made it much, much better.

[00:40:03] So that was what was going on this day. All right. We just hiked out to Trish Falls. And we're on our way back. But we've already been walking for quite a while. So I don't know what the total distance is going to be, but somewhere around five miles. And we've put in a lot of steps. But it was totally worth it because the waterfall was really, really pretty.

[00:40:32] And instead of coming straight down like most of the other ones, it was going over rock and splitting apart and just like a huge, wide fall. And it was really, really pretty. And we were able to get pretty close, too. But yeah, it was a really, really good hike. The sun was out for about a fourth of our walk or hike. And then it got overcast.

[00:41:01] And the sun was not beating down on us, which was nice. Because then, because there's not much shade out here. It's mostly just burned down trees. So there's a lot of just... I'm so tired, I can't think. There's just a bunch of tree trunks. And just skinny limbs. No leaves or anything. But there's a lot of evergreens, too.

[00:41:31] And so it's like a big field of some live trees. And a lot of them burned down. But it was a really beautiful hike. So if you ever make your way up to Oregon, I highly recommend checking out all the falls near the Sisters, Oregon area. And I highly recommend staying in Sisters. Sisters is really, really nice. It's a cute little town. And there's a lot of stuff to do around there.

[00:41:58] Especially being able to drive out and see the mountains from Sisters. The Three Sisters Mountains. So we're going to finish this hike. And then we're going to go get some food for dinner. And just relax for the rest of the evening. Because we've got to get up early in the morning for an event with some people on Thursday. And we've got some trails that we're going to hit.

[00:42:28] And then we're also going to do some more hiking around some lava fields. Which is going to be really cool. And then after that... I'm not sure what we're going to do after the hike and the trails. Or the driving trails and the hiking trails. But it should make for another nice, adventurous day. And it's going to be with a lot of Subaru people. So that's going to be fun too. So I'm glad that I was able to come out here with my family.

[00:42:59] And experience Oregon with them. And then experience getting to meet a bunch of people. And then also going to Overland Expo P&W. So I'm going to sign off for now and catch up with my family. See you later. Talk to you later. Alright, so that concluded day three of our adventures. Going out and hiking and finding waterfalls suggested by Aaron.

[00:43:29] And of course I had mentioned a few times that we were chasing waterfalls. And people brought up the song Waterfalls by TLC. Of course that had to come up. But yeah, we had a really good time. It was nice to see all of the stuff that we did. Out of all of the suggestions of where we could go. Because there was just, there was so much to see and so much to do. Because of course Oregon is a pretty big state. And I mean we saw a lot of stuff.

[00:43:58] Out of a lot more stuff in the sisters area. That you know that we could. And as I mentioned earlier, we didn't want to venture off too far. Because we didn't want to end up spending like half the day driving. We wanted to be able to spend the majority of the day seeing stuff. And so if we had had more time, more days. Like if we had had let's say like Monday through Friday. Or Monday through Saturday or something.

[00:44:24] If we'd had all of the days that we were there to just go off and adventure. We would have done that. But because we were also participating in Overland Expo. We wanted to just be careful in what we chose to go see. Because we didn't want to, again, we didn't want, we wanted to be able to get the most of our time. So I appreciate everybody's input and help with our trip out to Oregon. So I'm going to close this out briefly by mentioning what we did on Thursday.

[00:44:53] Even though Thursday was more officially part of Overland Expo experience. But we met up with a bunch of people from Subaru. Well, a bunch of Subarus met up with people from Subaru at the last Blockbuster on Earth in Bend, Oregon. And so we did that. We went in there, saw the store. And then from there we ended up going out and there were three different excursions.

[00:45:23] And we were part of the one that was with Milton and Carrie. So we went, did that. We were driving on some trails. Hit this kind of cool little like, I don't know, it was almost like a big bowl in the earth where we were all driving around. And that was like, we stopped there for probably 30 minutes or so. And then we continued on. But the whole day was great because we also went out to some lava fields. I don't remember exactly what that area was called.

[00:45:50] But you just, there's like this little tower thing and there's lava rocks all around. And it was just really, really cool to see that. Plus the drives out there were really, really nice. But one last thing I want to say that was pretty funny is when we left the lava fields, we were all going to go drive and find this park to meet up for eating lunch. Because we did all that before we actually hit the trails. But we ended up meeting up for lunch in this spot.

[00:46:18] But Milton was leading the way. And if anybody knows Milton, he can drive pretty fast. So he's driving pretty fast in Silver Bullet. And Luke and I were two cars behind him in Frankie. And as we're driving around, there's all these people on these mountain roads that are windy with blind spots. And there were people riding bikes on these mountain roads. And I'm like, I get it. You want to ride your mountain?

[00:46:48] You want to ride your bikes? But it seemed kind of crazy to me. There's no way I would be out there on a road, on a windy road with cars on a bike. So as Luke is trying to keep up with Milton, we're coming around this one curve. We're turning right. And we're trying to stick with him. And the curve ended up being sharper than we realized. And as we're going around the curve, we stay in our lane. And Luke veered out a little bit just because it was sharper.

[00:47:17] And Frankie's tires start going around the corner. And this guy on a bike was like, stay in your lane! And yelling at us from his bike. And we're like, okay. So that was a little bit of an experience. But I just wanted to close it out with that. And say thank you all so much for tuning in, listening to this episode. And I hope you all have a great week.

[00:47:43] And say thank you to everybody who helped this trip be what it was. And thank you also for Subaru for hosting the trail ride and everything on Thursday. And the Blockbuster event. That was really, really fun. And we just had a good time. And I will talk more about what we did on Thursday with the Blockbuster event and everything. But that will be on the Overland Expo bonus episode, which will be coming out on Friday. So be sure to listen in for that.

[00:48:13] But anyway, thank you all so much. Hope you all have a great week. Again, much Subi love. Raph. The Subi and You podcast is hosted by Raphael in a Closet in Houston.
